Your device does not support software update via Kies? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So went from Orange UK to UK Unbranded.
PDA I9100XWKE1
PHONE I9100XXKDJ
CSC I9100XEUKD1
However when I connected to Kies I can't do anything and get the error.
Your device does not support software update via Kies.
Whats wrong? Yes I am signed in to both google and samsung.

You dont have original firmware and codes don't match from your current set up with Kies server .
Codes have been changed by different firmware .

Change back your CSC to your original

The codes have changed to the stated unbranded ones, so does that mean if u unbrand a phone u can't update the software?

It vary genuine original = updates when the update is pushed to Kies flashed something else you might be lucky .Check the Hidswver post for codes

SpoofFW is another app that may help .
Simplest is to flash your exact original firmware if you are intent on using KIES as the upgrade path .Making sure you have the original codes .
But all the jumping from Kies to Odin and back increases risk of a brick .
Their is no way that a mass update of ICS is going to happen it will be rolled out otherwise servers will not cope .Network providers will take ICS and do what they want before uploading .
ICS stock roms will be available as usual via XDA and Odin .

It was detected and updated to 2.3.4, does that mean I shouldn't run into any more issues?

You are now on the Kies upgrade path you will get further upgrades via KIES as and whenever they are pushed to the server .
But as a method of updating to the latest firmware you wait for updates as seen with your GB 2.3.4 two versions behind XDA stock roms .
Kies get what you are given versus XDA and Odin choice .

Hello,
I upgraded my galaxy S2 to the SFR (France) ICS firmware I9100SFRLP7 by using CheckFusDownloader. It works but unfortunately my mobile is still not recognized by Kies. The message "your device does not support software upgrading via kies" is displayed on the screen.
Phone Info:
PDA: I9100BULPC
PHONE: I9100BULP6
CSC: I9100SFRLP7
Any idea ? If the CSC is not correct, what is the correct one and how to change it ?
Thanks for your help.

Before now I had this trouble with a TMU (T-Mobile UK) branded phone onto which I had loaded generic XEU firmware. Although the firmware wasn't TMU the phone still had TMU CSC code. Using the CSC menu wouldn't let me change the code - I had to root the phone and manually change the CSC code by editing a file in the EFS directory. After that the phone and KIES showed the phone as XEU and updates worked normally.

Which file did you update the CSC code in?

http://smartphonesgurudev.blogspot.in/2012/06/samsung-kies-how-to-update-official.html
Hope this helps.

Just adding another situation where this can happen, I am on a swisscom 4.0.3 ICS stock rom PDA:I9100BULPC PHONE:I9100BULP7 CSC I9100SWCLP3 with CF-Root. Kies offered an update even with my rooted rom so I made a nandroid backup (via CWM) then let Kies make the update. The update worked but I lost root so I re-rooted and it's all ok. However I forgot to take a copy of the Kies downloaded ROM while the update was happening so I just reverted to my pre-update nandroid backup and plugged in Kies, this time Kies gave me the "Your device does not support upgrading via Kies" even though just a few minutes earlier it had offered me the update.
So far I've not been able to get round it, I expect I can solve it by flashing the original stock roms and letting kies update, I'm just trying to avoid having to flatten the machine and set it up again.

Flashing Question

I recently flashed my SGS 2 to the KE7 Kernel to debrand my phone and update it in the future with Kies.
After flashing it the boot animation of my carrier was gone and I thought its ok, but when I connected it to my PC with Kies it showed me that the CSC is KD1(DRE)..
My question is, what is the sense of the CSC and can I, if needed, flash only the csc on my phone without damaging anything ? Is it normal that after flashing the csc doesn't change? Or can I do anything else to change the csc?
CSC is country specific settings or area settings for phone and network .
That is XEU = Eoroped CSCS CPW = Carphone Warehouse O2 = O2
Kernel does not install a CSC only full firmware does or flashing a CSC .
After flashing it the boot animation of my carrier was gone Yes you debranded it .
Personally from reading your post you should start at the beginning and read the FAQS .You had a phone that would receive the branded updates via Kies you now have a phone that Kies has no matching firmware for as codes no longer match .
jje
Thanks for the fast reply..
Oh sounds not good, so won't I receive any updates via KIES nor via the Update search on the SGS 2?

if you flash stock firmware you will receive updates. If you have anything custom you will have to manually download updates and flash phone. Correct me if im wrong.
SGS 1 rule was flash stock rom no Kies update ,Spoof FW invented to change product code etc for Kies .
SGS 2 users say Kies updates stock rom .
Fact i never ever got Kies to update any stock rom on SGS 1 .
So far have also failed to update stock SGS2 KDD KE1 or KE2 despite other users saying it must or it does .
using standard stock firmware as posted on XDA or samfirmware .
jje
Finally I got my SGS 2 updateable via Kies
I only flashed the KE7(XEU) with ODIN and then I did a factory reset.
Now when I connect it to KIES it says that this is the newest firmware and the option for update is not longer deactivated

[Q] Which regional updates will I receive?

I flashed KI3 and changed the csc to OJV, therefore I will receiver OTA updates only from OJV region correct? Also Kies doesn't recognise my phone which means it will recognise it when the KI3 update is pushed via kies?

If OTA is released for your phone then the updates you get are tied to the firmware you install .If product codes mnatch a firmware r5elease .
Also Kies doesn't recognise my phone which means it will recognise it when the KI3 update is pushed via kies
No as product codes dont match .

Unlocking with IMEI will update the phone to ICS?

The ICS will arrive first to the unbranded phones, and the subventioned will wait to the provider to install the ICS. My question is: If I unlock my phone with IMEI or any method available to do this, Kies will recognize my phone as unbranded like if I buy the phone without provider, and then Kies will bring me the ICS update??
Is there any way to do this?? Convert my phone to an unbranded phone so Kies will always recognize it as this??
Thanks
Kies doesn't check the IMEI, it checks the CSC as far as I know. So you could (theoretically) change the CSC code and have Kies recognize your device. Of course, if you have a provider ROM, it's possible that you only have one CSC built-in and no option to change it.
In that case, you'd have to flash a multi-CSC Gingerbread ROM, change your CSC and wait for the update in KIES. Although, probably simpler to flash an ICS ROM directly.
It checks codes as per .
hidswver
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1089874
CSC is not the upgrade path its network settings .
You can convert codes by using SpoofFW from the market .
You can also flash any stock ICS rom via Odin or download any rom via Checkfus .
But once you start moving away from original firmware kies may never upgrade .

[Q] Kies 2.3 and XEU ICS issue

I have UK unbranded (XEU) Galaxy S II. yesterday Samsung confirmed the ICS update is out.
But when i connect my phone to Kies, it shows "Your device does not support update via Kies" (on Win 7 64bit)
I used the Kies registry patcher 1.8 to spoof the older version, then Kies detected the ICS update and went ahead to download some firmware update.
But it gets stuck while "Preparing components for the update" and never completes
Does anybody has faced similar issue? Any other way to get around it?
i say skip kies and use odin to flash, it will be as official as kies. search and you will find your info.
1: get ROM from checkfus downloader / or xda forum
2: flash using odin
3: wipe
I had the same "Your device does not support update via Kies" issue, also XEU ( and Win7 64bit though I'm not sure that's relevant? ).
Even after re-installing Kies, soft and hard-resetting the phone, rebooting PC, reconnecting device, etc., etc. ( I'd forgotten that some people have previously had success with the registry tweakage... )
I had :-
PDA : I9100XWKH1
PHONE : I9100XXKG5
CSC : I9100XEUKH1
( bought from Phones4U as an O2 upgrade )
I can't find this config anywhere for download, in fact, the only references to it that I can find via Google all seem to state the same problem with Kies not liking it...
So I used Odin to flash 4.0.3, and now Kies tells me that I've got the latest version, so it looks like my problem was that Kies just didn't like my specific version for some reason.
Odin itself is easy to use, I can see why so many people prefer to use it than Kies anyway... that said, I'd still like to understand why Kies didn't like the config that my phone came with from new...
I'm happy with ICS so far, battery calibration was nuts at first, but a reboot, run flat and full-charge seems to have sorted that out.

Codes on phone match no firmware on the server .
Kies only updates firmware that matches whats on the server .
Phone xxxx XEU
PDA xxxxx POL
CSC xxxxO2UK
Typical reject a phone with 3 different codes none of which can match what has been uploaded .

Wiping is recommended if you are going from GB to ICS. and no restore from GB either.

I had the same issue, for some reason Kies says it's not able to update if you don't have a full charge, charge the phone up, plugged it back in and it updated
Who use's kies for updating just flash using odin and then wipe, for more info dont post another post just use the search bar
Using ICS from last 4 weeks now
Here is what i did
1. Rooted my GB first to install Titanium backup pro
2. Took a backup of apps through titanium backup
3. Took backup of sms through Go SMS Pro
4. Flashed my SII with Odin
5. Rooted it again

[Q] Can't upgrade my unrooted GSII to ICS via OTA

Hi,
I have an unrooted GS II (I9100):
PDA: KJ2
Phone: KI4
CSC: KF2 (XSG)
I tried to upgrade it to ICS via OTA but the installation fails at 11% with the phone rebooting normally and displaying the "firmware update failure" message. I also tried to do it via Kies on my desktop but it gives me a "Your device does not support software upgrading via Kies".
Is there a workaround to this? I really want to get ICS without flashing with odin.
Thanks!
Anyone? Please I really need help!

If you have an officially released firmware (all parts: kernel, PDA, CSC, Modem, etc.) for you phone and your region, KIES and OTA updater should recognize your system and provide the update to the latest release.
The fact that it does not work implicates that there was something changed on your phone - maybe a changed Modem or CSC file?!
You can use Check Fus Downloader from here => http://fus.nanzen.se/ to check the latest officially released firmware for your phone in your region and download it directly from Samsung severs.
It's a Windows application. After installation, you must select the OS (Android), the phone (GT-I9100) and then your region.
Click "Check" and then "Download".
If you extract the downloaded zip file, you get a ROM tar file.
This can be flashed to your phone with Odin.
Have a look here for a short description of how to flash firmwares with Odin => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
Once flashed with Odin, you don't need KIES or OTA Updater any more ... it's so easy.
And you don't need to root your phone.
Give it a try !

I'm thinking a non-stock ROM (official ROM) was installed in my phone by the retailer since the phone is from the UK and the ROM added is for the Middle East region to add Arabic support, could this be why?
Also, flashing with odin, will it give me a the yellow caution triangle and will it void my warranty?
Thank!

Yellow caution triangle is only shown when flashing a kernel that was not signed by Samsung while the phone is in download mode. This is most commonly done with Odin, but there are other programs that can be used as well, like Heimdall.
Flashing a completely stock firmware (which has a stock kernel signed by Samsung included) will NOT cause the triangle to appear.
How about the warranty, is it void if I use odin to flash the ROM?

If the warranty is still currently valid, and if the ROM you are flashing is an official package from Samsung that contains a kernel signed by Samsung, then no.
