i have noticed that the Am/Pm bar on the top of the screen starts to burn in, it would be great if somebody could make an app that would move the Am/Pm bar around so everybody's burn in's dont get any worse
I believe changing fonts every now and then could take care of it. I know it's not whast you asked for, I guess it would just act as a bandaid for now.

Zeam let's you do this as well and it's what I recently started doing. Another option might be to use a 24 hour clock. Not sure how much that would really help though.
If they have a way to black out the battery how come theres no way to get rid of the clock or black it out I dont use it anyway

devs for the verizon fascinate found a way to remove the am/pm from the notification bar. probably the main reason they removed it on the nexusS lol we could look into how they removed it.

Murse thanks for the suggestion! I went and downloaded Zeam from the market and it's an excellent launcher which also allows you to hide status bar! And it's free, no ads! Thanks again buddy!
edit: Ok Zeam only removes the status bar from the home screen. Open the browser or any app and the status bar reappears so not useful for hiding status bar. Also live wallpapers freeze intermittently while running Zeam. Is a good launcher despite those shortcomings.
Removing status bar entirely will probably require a different rom, not an apk.

Do you have a link to something pointing to where they changed it. I am working on a mod that will allow you to change the color (like in cyanogen mod) and even hide time and/or am/pm.

Yes. I am working on a mod (for Nero3) that takes the "settings" features from cyanogenmod, so you can show/hide the time, show/hide am/pm and change the color.
I have the code in place in the services.jar, and let me tell you, that is no easy task... and I think it is "sort of" working. when I flash the modded services jar, I have no time, but i also dont have the signal strength, and battery. which is also part of the CM stuff.
I started creating a "custom" spareparts app, that is based on the CM one (it only has the time / status bar stuff). but currently i have been unable to get it to display the time or any of the other status icons.
I am not sure yet what the problem is. It could be because it is not signed as a system app, or it could be that I am missing something in the services.jar.
I'm looking to change the status bar icons (particularly the icons for signal strength). I've replaced the pngs in drawable-HDPI in both the framework-res.apk and the SystemUI.apk, but I see no change in the icons. Any suggestions/ideas on how to change them? I'm running GingerJane.

Are you using metamorph or ninjamorph? I've never had any success using metamorph, personally. I just cut the crap and use ninjamorph. Yeah,a little more work, but I see results
Tbolt meatclaws-talkatap
Which ones in SystemUI did you change and what ROM are you using? IIRC, Ginger BAMF uses cdma_sys_4signal_0 - 4 currently.
Hell, i can't even find system UI , where did you find it.
I read it was under system/ app/ ? but its not there.
Would like to change my signal strength icons.
I used ninjamorph and the .png are there
framework.resapk/res/drawable-hdpi.
and when i start the phone the .png image is there for signal strength
but as soon as the TB connects to service it reverts back to stock.
Any ideas anyone.
I read and read and no one seems to know how to fix this.
Anyone?
I have changed bluetooth and battery to rpm gadge for the battery
and blue icon for bluetooth and gps icon. But can't change signal strength
or 4g icon.

SystemUI is only for Gingerbread ROM's. If you don't see it in system/app (SystemUI.apk) then you are not on Gingerbread. For Froyo, the signal strength icons and the 4G icons are located in com.htc.resources in /system/framework. In fact, every status bar icon that is in com.htc.resources.apk in Froyo, was moved to SystemUI for GB. Hope this helps.
yes that helps thank you very much.
hopefully i can change the icons now.
i will post back when i find out.
update: Nope didn't change them still I will play with it some more.
Maybe there is another area i goto change.
Signals showed when it booted up but as soon as it connected
the signal reverted back to white bars again.
Update 2: OK! I got the 4g to change to purple from the icon from droidpirate.
I had to zip aline them when it asked , i said yes and that worked. YES
Now all i have to do is go back and reasign the signal icons and select yes to zip aline them.
I hope that works for the signals. Trying to put in the bullet icons for signals from droidpirate.com site.
Update 3: Still no go with the signal bars. Dam!
There has to be another area or something else i have to change.
Will report back, i remeber reading i might have to change it in
two areas, I can't remember now.
Update 4: Well i have change ever icon except the stupid signal white bars.
don't understand when i boot the TBolt, the bullet icon with a little red x shows (sys sig null) shows up
Until the phone actually gets the signal then it reverts back.
May im not changing the correct item. Its saying its the same and the icon i want to change (stat_sys_signal_0.png thru -4.png)
they are showing in ninjamorph as changed icons but not when i boot up.
Do i need to change them in another area?
http://droidpirate.com/2010/10/23/metamorph-signal-buuf/
above link is what im trying to set as my signal icons ( im on froyo not gingerbread)
Thanks again for the help.
Ok i am able to use ninjamorph on the thunderbolt.
But i still can't change my signal icons, and the crosshairs e911? icon.
I have tried twice with ninjamorph.
I just have a question on theming this particular Rom, I love the layout and everything about this rom, the only thing i'm trying to change is the signal bars, the 4g, and 3g icons, and the battery icon. Now i have themed other apps like the sms and the mail, that was easy, but in the SystemUI.APK, there are sooooo many different icons in there ranging from stock-AOSP style icons, what do i need to change specifically? and if i want to use the AOSP style icons in the folder already, how would i do that?

theme all the icons in the drawable-xhdpi folder. if you want to use the aosp icons already there just rename them the same as the icons you are replacing.

All of them will be in drawable-xhdpi. Pretty much all the icons you need to change begin with stat_, like the data icons should be, as he said, in the drawable-xhdpi folder, and the 4G, 3G icons you're looking for should be called stat_sys_data_connected_3g_lte.png, and also other 3 pictures for 3g, _in_ _inandout_, and _out_. And then 4g should be stat_sys_data_connected_vzw_lte.png, along with those same three others for it.

Yeah, they are normally grey at StockROM. If you want to have the normal statusbar, like on the Nexus, I can advise you CyanogenMod, ParanoidAndroid or SuperNexus. These are CustomROMs and built by the Source Code of Google, that means that these CustomROMs have nothing to do with Samsung.
When you want to stay at StockROM (Samsung's preinstalled ROM/Firmware) I can advise you to root your phone, flash Philz Recovery and cook your SystemUI.apk, framework-res.apk and TouchWizUI.apk on UOT-Kitchen (the description is on the mainsite)... UOT Kitchen is a site where you can replace some elements of the design.
Your warranty will be lost at both things!
BACKUP THESE APKs BEFORE APPLYING THAT! WHEN YOU DON'T BACKUP THESE FILES YOU MUST REFLASH YOUR STOCKROM TO GET THE NORMAL DESIGN BACK!!!

Status bar autodimming solution
Hi, guys!
The solution is simple:
Decompile SystemUI.apk
Navigate to res/values/dimens.xml
You'll find a dimen item called status_bar_icon_drawing_alpha
In Samsung roms you'll also have tw_status_bar_icon_drawing_alpha
The value is given in percentages. Android dims the icons by setting their transparency (usually to 65%, Samsung - to 50%)
Increase the number and the dimming will go away.
Note that increasing it to 100% will make them a tad too bright. Use 100% only if using translucent status bar with bright BG.
Recompile and Enjoy
Where is this defined for SCH-I535?

Hi, can you advise the location of this xml in the Verizon S3 SystemUI.apk? Or if it's an entirely different setting outside of the apk? I can't find the path you mentioned. Thanks.
Did you decompile it? How much of the path did you follow?

I don't see \values in the \res folder. Here's what mine looks like inside of \res:
anim
color
drawable
drawable-hdpi
drawable-sw360dp-xhdpi
drawable-sw600dp
drawable-sw600dp-xhdpi
drawable-sw720dp-xhdpi
drawable-sw800dp-xhdpi
drawable-xhdpi
layout
layout-land
layout-port
layout-sw600dp
layout-sw720dp
layout-sw800dp
menu
raw
xml
drawable does seem to contain the status bar xml's but none that look like they control the icon transparency. Any ideas? I'm on a custom ROM, but it is based on stock TW ROM, if that helps.
The folder is res > values then the file called dimens.xml
They are around row 25 but if you don't see the values folder then you haven't decompiled the apk, are you sure you know what to do
Haha, well I was "cheating" by using Root Explorer to extract, expecting to mod then zip and change .zip extension to .apk. If I need to properly decompile to see the dimens.xml, I'll use APKTool on the PC. Thanks.

Hmm, well I finally got around to doing this the right way with apktool (loaded both framework-res.apk and twframework-res.apk, decompiled, changed the status_bar_icon_drawing_alpha and tw_status_bar_icon_drawing_alpha values, then re-compiled), then copied the entire res folder and resources.arsc file from my modded apk back to the original using 7-zip, then pushed back to my phone. Still no change in shade of status bar icons. What could I be doing wrong?
Is it the status bar icons or the clock colour or both you want to change

It's the status bar icons, but I finally got this! The part of the guide talking about opening 7zip and dragging changed folders to the original apk structure wasn't working between 7zip windows because the RES folder wasn't overwriting the existing RES folder so it was failing and not telling me. Once I deleted the resources.arsc file and the RES folder from the original apk in 7Zip I could then drag those over. Closed it, pushed it rebooted and finally saw brighter icons on the left side! Many thanks to this forum, all the contributors, and of course all the developers that make all this cool stuff possible! Now on to deciphering the location of all my right side icons and replacing them with brighter versions to match.

Look in the SystemUI.apk\res\drawable-xhdpi folder also the clock colour is in the SystemUI.apk\res\layout folder and the tw_status_bar.xml file on this row, changing the colour highlighted in red will change the clock colour, this as you probably know is white yours will probably be #ffa6a6a6 this is a mid to light grey, leave the initial #ff just change the last 6

Great stuff! Actually I can customize the battery icon and clock color through my ROM settings, but not the wi-fi/data/signal and ringer icons. I have to go to the drawable-xhdpi folder for that, but at least it doesn't require a full decompile/recompile to change out the .png's. Thanks for all the help!

I don't know if it is still possible atm but I did manage to find Samsung jellybean notification icons from the S3 mini but they did not suit the notification window for the Motorola Defy which was disappointing but the black notification icons used by the Notification Toggle app were much better and left as is.
