How to use watch movies using Google play on rooted android phones.
1) Download app called ota rootkeeper from the android marketplace.
2) Open app and protect root.
3) Click "temp unroot".
4) When done watching movie go to ota rootkeeper and restore root.
NOTE: Every time you want to use Google play you must do this.

renting movies from android market

has anyone tried to do this since getting root access? i know i remember reading that google was gonna block movies for rooted devices but i wasnt sure if that was ever implemented or not
I haven't personally tried since I feel they are a rip off. I'd rather just use other methods. But I don't think google blocked the movies. They are still showing up in the market for me and are available to rent.
You can rent them, just can't watch in the google movie app. Two ways around this.
1. Just go to your browser on the phone to the google market website and watch it from there
2. Use terminal or adb shell to rename the su binary. Remember what you name it as, because when you're done watching the movie, you will have to run the binary as the new name to be able to change it back so all other programs will work.

Flixster Root fix?

Can anyone be able to fix Flixster app because it knows I am rooted and wont let me watch my ultraviolet movies?
Do you actually get an error that says "You are rooted, try again hacker"? At the very worst, this is temp root. Reboot and watch your flick, then re-root.
I'm having the same problem, it says "It looks like your device is rooted. Unfortunately, movie streaming is not supported on rooted devices for security and stability reasons." I am unlocked and permanently rooted on stock rom. How does this silly little app know I'm rooted? I have several ultraviolet movies I'd like to watch, this suxs! Does anyone know a way around this?
Try OTA rootkeeper. Looks like you can make a root backup, temp unroot, then reroot after you watch your movies
I don't know if flixster worked pre ICS upgrade cause I never tried it. BUT I cannot play the movies I own now afterwards using this app. Some kind of security issue when trying to play. No, I'm not rooted.

New App to Hide Root (For Google Video and Amazon Instant Video)?

Unfortunately OTA Rootkeeper does not properly hide root anymore. It appears that Google and Amazon both check for /system/xbin to determine if a device is rooted. I would like to create an app that will deal with the xbin side. Currently you can run OTA rootkeeper and rename xbin to hide root.
Busybox is located at /system/xbin, and renaming xbin will result in some serious problems with some ROMs (CM7). If you leave it renamed then there will be issues.
Is there a way to stop a specific app from accessing the directory? My initial thought is to have an app that would be triggered if Google Video or Amazon Instant Video starts up. The app would immediately rename /system/xbin, and then set it back after the video app has started (assuming that checks are only performed during start up).
Anyways, I'm looking for some input on this. Perhaps there is an easier way to go about this?
===========================
For now, here is a solution that makes it a bit easier (and it's free) to deal with xbin:

Nice project. Hope you can get it working.

One way you could do this is via Tasker. Build a task that renames /system/xbin, then launches the app, then renames it back.
SuperSU lets you temporarily disable root, also.

What about contacting the developer of OTA Rootkeeper and see if he can make a few changes to his program so that it will work again?
the problem is, for some of us- me included- ota rootkeeper is still working fine in conjunction with the amazon video app.
noot tablet 1.4.0-rooted, updating blocked- amazon video app, latest rootkeeper app
and the amazon video app works fine.
i installed busybox -since some say that is what is causing the blockage to happen,
i installed in /bin and /xbin (separate times) and with that app installed, again the amazon video app works fine- for my nook tablet.

Downloading APKs

I'm frustrated with Google Market because a decent handful of apps that I want to download show incompatible with my device. But I can't seem to find anywhere to download the apks now either to side load them. I used to use an apk downloader extension with Chrome but that no longer works and I can't get sites like Appbrain, Getjar etc to download the file either. I'm looking for apps like ticketmaster, cvs, target etc which are all free apps.
Any way around the Market issue or a good site without warez to get these apps?
Amazon?

I have been playing with a Kindle Fire and have(had) the same issue. I have used 1Mobile Market for most of the apps I previously got from the Play Store (Market). To install the Mobile market app, use the browser and go to their site (1mobile.com/). From their you can download their app with needed installer. After that, a huge variety of apps are available.

Indeed, but I tried one which checks for root access after I side loaded it. It wants unrooted devices only. Still hoping for a temp unroot option.
you dudes can use modified play store to access all the apps (not paid app for free indeed)

Like where? Thanks
Don't forget that if you have the apps on another device, you can use a backup app like astro file manager to make an apk of any app.

Gapps, and flash
Flash player works when you install from a download. You can get the most current version by googling flash player versions. adobe has all Android versions on their website. Here's the website to download the most current Version of Adobe Flashplayer I also provided a download below.
K just unzip the app file and install the apk with es file manager that works I have confirmed that flash works on my daughters tablet. Adobe Flash Player works just fine when installed normally.

Voodoo programs are usually reliant on Voodoo compatible customized kernels, not stock non altered kernels.
For download apk's from PlayStore I use Real APK Leecher.
And how Real APK Leecher OP proposed i created new gmail account only for this necessity. Device ID i just got at my SGS II. All works like charm. Later i can install it to my phone or rooted Nook HD+ with Android Commander (very handy and great tool).
Amazon app store works ironically just fine.

Not true at all. Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper works on almost every single device running Android.
I should be getting my Nook HD this Wednesday so expect some themes to come sometime next weekend.

You don't want to be using this app on the HD/HD+ since it modifies /system and you will end up getting reset.

[Q] Transfer an app.

I have got a new phone, and I want to transfer one app in particular over from my old one. One problem: The app is a paid one, and its not longer in the play store.
Can anyone help?
Or possibly suggest an app that allows to browse the web, and download most any type of video found, all while having a handy popup blocker.
Before, I tried finding the .apk file and just transferring it and installing but it didnt work fully.
Here's what happened: The app comes in 2 parts, the main app and "plugins" for the app that allow it to download more video formats. Like i thnk .mp4 is supported by main app but .flv is supported by paid plugin (.99 cents)
The said plugin refused to work when just transferred over as an apk file. It probably somehow knew that it was not "paid" for a second time. I'd LOVE to pay for it, but its not in the app store.
So is there any way to scrub it from one phone, and transfer the "licence" (or w/e it is it uses to verify the phone its on) to the new phone?
I have heard of an app called Titanium Backup. Can that app possibly help me? If so, I heard it requires root, which I currently dont have. Can some one tell me how to root my phone?
Its Motorola MB860, Android Version 2.3.6
Try to backup the APP with TiBU and transfer the TiBU backup.
Update Play Store if You don't have latest. When You have old Play Store your paid app wont show on the list.
