I was curious if it is possible to extend RAM memory by cutting a partition from the SD card and using it... Is it possible? From my little knowledge about Unix systems, this memory is called SWAP. If we made this possible, e.x. Reach 512 MB RAM memory, then GingerBread would run very smoothly on our MINIs (and PROs)
I know, that in Windows (Vista and above) is possible to optimize RAM by extenting cache into a USB or SD. I am not sure if this is possible on Linux/Unix systems...
I have no actual idea, but just the idea! Please help me know if it is possible... :-D

If somebody develops anything like what we would like ie. getting more RAM from the SD card they should call it SD Hijack..!
Our kernel doesn't support it yet, andyx is hard at work trying to make a module.

Nope it's possible.
But it did not preform well even with my big over clocked x10 the class 8 SD just could not keep up the pace with all the traffic on the SD card.
Even with a massive 8mb read & write ram cache for the SD it just could not deal with it.
Our bootloader is now unlocked and most custom kernels out there now have swap.(i.e. the SD RAM)
Is there anyway i can use otg and have my gameloft files on there and still play them on phone when i hook up the flash drive with the otg to my galaxy s3 verizon??

Use directory bind, then move the game data to your sd card. That's the best thing you can do.

Although not exactly what you're asking for, that's what I did and what I'd do if I were you : ExtSD2internalSD
Basically you're going to make your phone believe that your sd mem card is your internal and vice versa, worked like a charm for me running Jelly Bean 4.1.1 on my I9300 with a Class 10 samsung 64GB micro sd card.
Here's the link to the thread.
BTW, thanx to mattiadj for this awesome mod and hope this helped somehow.
My internal storage is full.... Is there any ways to move apps to sd card..... I tried to use couple of apps from market like 'apps to sd' and 'gl to sd'...... Non of that worked.... If any one could help, i would realy appreciate it...!!.

Hi all
This apps is used our sd card to create swap memory
i've been trying and i think its work on my ray..
Just look at the screenshot..
the first line used by the phone memory = 400 mb
the second line i swap it with memory from sd card : 1480 mb
Just try it
Install as normal apk... place it on phone memory
open the app and click optimal value
Just wait till finish and reboot ur phone
Use ur widget to swap between memory internal and memory from sd card
I try it on my ray
stock rom
ics .587
supercharger v6
Aeon smallapps
16 gb class 10
Here is the link
http://db.tt/SeX0WyxU
link does not work
whether the data on the sd card will be lost?

Yes it does but IMO, swapping to sdcard is not very useful because it is the slowest memory in our device and swappin to it is not very efficient and I forgot to mention that sdcards normally have a high rate of data corruption and failures and swapping to it will only increase the risk of corrupting the card. Instead you can use swap to cache or zram, it would be more efficient and useful. Please don't misunderstand me, I'm not trying to spoil this thread or something (I hope I'm not spoiling it) just wanted to explain something useful :beer:

Hi,
Just handed my XZU for nearly 2 weeks now. Really loving it, great companion for my Xperia Acro S.
We know that XZU only available in 16gb of internal memory and expandable via SD card. But i face a little issue with the internal capacity, now i am using 75% of the memory - i install pretty much big games, and it continues to keep on growing --"
With that pattern of usage, i guess moving big apps to sd card will help, but i cannot find the "move to external memory" option inside the app detail. Is it possibble to move the app to sd card? Do i need to root my device?
Your responds are highly appreciated. Thank you.

It is possible. I Had same problem and I could not find any SW which does not need root. Bud finaly I had to rood my ZU and now I use GL2SD app which works great also with non GL games
Ah, thanks for your reply. So, i need to root my XZU then, but it appears to be an uncomfortable option to me. Let's hope this will be enabled in the future update

App to SD only allows you to more the akp as far as I'm aware? Foldermount will let you move any folder, including game date to the external.

i have try foldermount but its always reboot my ultra
my ultra have root with 360root
App2SD and GL2SD
My Xperia Z Ultra is NOT rooted
App2SD: Not supported
GL2SD: Requires root
This means, No Go....
Safe bet you will need root access for any on these apps to work. Rooting is easy, but it's your personal choice if you do it. Plus you always get the choice if which apps to grant access to so security should not really be a concern.

Mine reboots too... but to install remount-reboot we need to have a working CWM, which is not the case...
Or, install it through a PC, but it drives me mad not being able to do everything on my device instead of depending on a computer.
We'd need something like Mobile Odin Pro for Samsung... isn't it possible to do something like that? Just a question, I don't know if it would be science fiction... :silly:
