Keyboard lag fix - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

So I have a question for you fine folks on xda. Its goes like this everytime I try to use a keyboard besides the stock keyboard and swyoe I have keyboard lag where it will miss a letter or two. I am wanting to know if there is a governor or some settings for on demand that will cure this problem. The keyboard I'm currently trying to get to be smooth is smartkeyboard.

does anyone else experience this? It's mostly when hepatic feedback is on.

Yea I get lag initially when using my keyboard after deep sleeping. The "pop up" of keys usually lags. I'm using the ported ics keyboard by jontanmi.
I think the problem is nice settings (and how its stored in ram and cache). I believe loopy_smoothness tweak helped when I added my keyboard to a higher priority

No problems here, and I'm not messing around with any weird priority tweaks.
Drink less, then your liver will give less hepatic feedback.

That made me laugh. Love what creative people do with typos.

The issue of keyboard lag on third-party keyboards has always been a pet peeve of mine. As far as layout and functionality, the keyboard I like the most is Smart Keyboard Pro, but the lag is just too much for me to tolerate. I have found, however, a few other keyboards that work a lot faster:
Perfect Keyboard
A.I.type Keyboard
Better Keyboard 8
My favorite of those is Perfect Keyboard.

Best & "Lightest" Keyboard?

Well, Swiftkey X has lost its appeal to me.
What are some of the best keyboards out there that, as odd a request as it might seem, are also light on system resources?
I just like a snappy keyboard that doesn't take two seconds to pop up or disappear, and doesn't 'stumble' when typing (no input for a sec, then all of a sudden puts in your last 3 strokes).
I don't need much in terms of theming, but the one thing I found with Swiftkey that I REALLY fell in love with was the ability to change the long key press time threshold...for example, I decreased it from like 500ms to 250ms...it makes typing for me a whole lot faster. Are there any other keyboards with that?
Thanks for your input fellas.
My swipe pops up right away. However, I HATE typing passwords or usernames with it. I know that doesn't really help, as I cna't find any keyboards I like... I can't stand swiftkey, especially with the browser, as that .com is ALWAYS in the way when I try to search. For general use, I like the stock keyboard actually... its less laggy than the froyo one was, but it still is a bit laggy...
i used for a while go keyboard, but now i'm using thumb keyboard 4 and it's highly customizable, fast no lags, perfect for my big fingers

I've been eyeing that one and think I'll check out the free demo/trial they have.
Unfortunately, Mgamerz, I kinda don't like any swype keyboards. I actually tried going back to it for a while when Swiftkey started fading and still couldn't get into it.
Thanks for the input guys.
I'm using thumb keyboard and its pretty good. Really like the portrait layout, making it soeasy to type.
It would be much better if it let me customize every single keys so I can make my own layout or keys that I use often.

Go keyboard is best for me. You have swipe, you can adjust intensity of vibration you have everything.

Well I was mistaken, there is no demo.
But you like it? Never ran into any lag? I see a review here and there that says it lags but it was literally only like 2, and one of them was using the LG optimus (the little crappy one T-mobile has, I think)
@knjigo: You're right...I don't like swyping though. Plus, I'm actually referring not to the length of the vibration feedback, but to how long it takes for, say, when I press a letter at the top with a number mapped "under" it for the long keypress, I could actually change how long I had to wait while pressing the letter to get the number to pop up.
I like it. Using it since alien rom and now I'm using cm7. I have experienced NO lag at all on this beast.

Any of you know a good keyboard that doesn't take up the whole space in landscape? I love swype, but hate the fact that it takes up the whole space -__-

Awesome. Glad to hear.
Can anybody offer a comparison between Thumb Keyboard and another keyboard called Perfect Keyboard?
i got Smart Keyboard can change sizes and nice theme. and i tested all the keyboards and thats the only one i like if u want it msg me and ill get u apk for it.
I use FlexT9 - It works great - even in browsers and typing usernames/passwords (just type like a regular keyboard) and its a "swype" style keyboard.

I have used multiling keyboard after testing a bunch in the beginning. I think it doesn't get enough attention. No lag, and highly customizable....including the length of long press!
Also doesn't take full screen in landscape.

[Q] keyboard lag...

Has anyone noticed the lag when typing or using the phone key pad? I had his with my infuse as well and its getting annoying. I really notice it when using the back space button. My HTC vivid is spot on....not sure if its a Samsung thing, keyboard skin thing, a setting that needs adjustments or a me thing.

I had lag on the Samsung keyboard, so I switched to the android keyboard. The android one is way better, I don't have any lag and I text pretty fast on this huge screen. I sure don't miss my iPhone.

A.I keyboard best hands down...
I want to like swift key, but when I tap on a word to fix it, it fixes the word and keeps the old text as well!!!
Disabling haptic feedback, text prediction and popup on keypress gets rid of the lag (and the motion sickness one gets from the screen popping around).

Yes, thats pretty standard across all ics roms - don't know why they did that, makes it hard to scroll.
But i don't know if I would call that touch sensitivity, maybe more like "scrolling momentum"
I noticed the sensitivity could be adjusted under the galaxy s2 settings located in the app drawer.

I wonder if it's one of the changes they made along with removing the 'bounce' feedback you get when you hit the end of a scroll due to complaints from Apple.

Hi everybody, TouchType Ltd. have decided to release their latest beta for the ever popular SwiftKey today for free
Seeing as the demand for the beta is hammering their servers, I decided to upload the .apk to my dropbox for everybody to enjoy. Just download and install like you would with any other app
Here's the file: http://db.tt/GHjXdQi7
FYI, this is a FREE, and OPEN beta and therefore this is a FREE APP. I understand the rules of xda, and I do not condone or promote pirating in any way!

definitely the best keyboard I've tried. the prediction is amazing.
it rocks, but getting rid of the comma key kinda sucks IMO. i use commas all the time, and having to long press to get one really slows down my typing..
also, they took out the % of keyboard you swipe across to do gesture option, AND the miliseconds for long press! i use really short long presses so i'm super fast, so wtih the beta i type a lot slower :\
Not bad. But i still may perfer the stock keyboard over any.

http://vip.swiftkey.net/index.php?/topic/3432-swifkey-beta-custom-themes-for-devs-poll/
I started using this today and it's easily the most accurate keyboard I've ever used on a any smart phone ever. With any other keyboard after typing 2-3 words I would have to look up at what a typed for a second, to make sure nothing screwed up or a mistyped, then backspace and correct it. I've been using this all day and I just blow right through sentences as fast as I can think of the letter and the placement and as long as I am in the general area of the letter it predicts it easily.
Not only that, but you can choose landscape and portrait heights of the keyboard, and they have pre-installed themes (I hope this gets expanded, but the 6-7 themes they have are decent).
And this is only a beta? I'll easily pay for the final version when it's released.

Audio, I'm not sure since I don't use it. Haptic feedback, though, just go into the settings for that keyboard and change it to the max haptic feedback. Test it to make sure it works, then scale it back down. Mine wasn't working until I did that.
EDIT: Just tried the audio feedback, too and did the same thing. Had to turn it up all the way first. It's under settings, language and keyboard, swiftkey settings, advanced, then audio and haptic feedback.

Thanks for the tip - not having haptic feedback was killing me
anyone else getting the swift key popup when using the keyboard? Not complaining, just wondering.
EDIT*
nevermind. wife is getting it too.
I just wish it would keep the keyboard up instead of hiding it again.
I got audio to work when I unplugged my headphones but still have yet to get haptic to work however it is just a beta and I've been able to get by without the feedback it just feels weird.
*EDIT* I got haptic working finally

New Build Feature Discussion Only (UCLF5)

It has S-Note (ability to record your self in app with audio and replay)
S-Memo improvements
S-Pen settings have some features added in.
Browser is definitely improved.
ATT Messages app preinstalled. Sorta.
Voice Talk super responsive!
S-pen still not calibrated just right but better.
Rotation more responsive.
New sounds.
Used allshare to stream my own movies to my mac via XMBC (Success!).
Screen only activates facelock when you manually lock the device, otherwise its just a swipe lock.
Update. 4G is way stronger and faster.
couldn't find any more right now.
SMS send button corrected

I've tried and tried to no avail as far as using my palm to get a screenshot. Is it maybe because I'm using ICS perfection based on the newest build?

Is it my imagination:
The android keyboard is less forgiving?
I have way more typing errors than with previous bases.
The gallery looks blurry?
My eyes aren't what they used to be, but . . .
still could use more work
As with the previous leaks some of the issues were not addressed. Basically some will find this leak pleasant and others such as myself not worth the hassle (returning once again back to stock). I quess it all depends on how one uses their phones. For me the task manager (jobmanager.apk) is a must, task manager must be used repeatedly to accomplish anything. Next Bluetooth works, however when using it with Pandora and programs via data I lose the ability to control music using headset (some functions work others don't). Trying to connect to a call via Bluetooth during audio playback in news or Pandora is more trouble than its worth. Tap to zoom while viewing pages over zooms not to big an issue but prefer to have it zoom and fit the screen. Last but not least, I still think the note has the worst call quality of any phone I've ever used was hoping a ROM or update would fix this, of course this is my opinion here. I will give the browser one thumbs up (the other hand is being used to display a middle finger to this leak) it far surpasses the previous stock browser, I'm not a fan of the checkerboard effect. I haven't used this leak long enough to find any other problems.

I'm glad to see that the keyboard problem wasn't just me. I felt like Homer Simpson trying to type. Not only was it generating a lot of typos but it also seemed like the auto-correct was acting like a drunk Marine... way too aggressive and usually wrong. The strange part is that I encountered the exact same problem with the android keyboard, the samsung keyboard, ICS keyboard, A.I. Type, and Swype. Swiftkey has acted fairly good for me though. I imagine there has to be some component, related to autocorrect, that all of the other keyboards share but Swiftkey doesn't.
I seems that the hidden menu:
*#*#4636#*#*
is not working anymore. I think this is a new issue, before this was always working.
I also don't like too much this new keyboard ... too many typos.
So is it the way the screen reads your fingertips, or is the dictionary a suck-hole?
