[TWEAK][MOD] Increase you app storage from 380MB to 420MB!!! - Xperia Play Android Development

YOU WILL NEED A R800I WITH A UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER
Please read this first, This tweak/mod is potentially catastrophic. If the free space of /system becomes less than 40MB then it will completely destroy the USERDATA Partition as the userdata overlaps the system this means all data in the /data folder will be corrupted!!!
It will however not cause any issues if the /system stays below 270MB
Thanks to CosmicDan for the above information.
If you ask me it is rather pointless doing all this just for a extra 40mb. Just use link2sd or something instead.

TWEAK: Increase you app storage from 380MB to 420MB!!!
Warning: This will erase your userdata partition. It is HIGHLY recommended to do a nandroid backup with CWM "BEFORE" performing this procedure
TUTORIAL:
Follow this method to make your userdata partittion to 420mb
1. boot your phone into CWM
2. Move to "Backup and Restore",then select "Backup"
3. When the backup is done, power phone off
4. Flash the .ftf with flashtool (select wipe cache and userdata)
5. Go into CWM again, select "Backup and Restore" then "Advanced restore", select your last backup then "restore data"
6. Enjoy your extra space
7. To reverse this process just flash the original ftf of your choice (42, 58, 62) and your userdata will return to its original state!

Sir ...
thanks for your amazing works
but i have a small question
is it working in any ROM or just the original one ...
because I'm in DiXperia Monster ROM ,, So is it Working or not ??

it will work on EVERY rom (gingerbread and ICS)

Tried on R800x, got a "failed to verify sin header" error. Should this work on R800x, or is it actually just for R800i?

it should work on both.
i only tried it on r800i!

Can anyone confirm if this is Bootloader Unlocked only? As I have no idea how to check whether mine is locked or not D:

Any idea how this mod works exactly? I thought it wasn't possible to mod the play's partitions because it uses a different structure or something. Nice anyway, but sux for us locked BL dudes.

Work on my play thanks!

So even though we will be able to use the extra room past the 380 mb will it still start to slow phone down if we actually use it?
Ios suckkss.

How can this be accomplished on the R800x? Is there a way around the error?

So how does this even work? Could the extra data be from when the cache partition shrunk?

Wicked sick. Im going to flash this tomorrow!
i tried to flash your system but it just hangs, herse what it says
c:\Program Files\Android\android-sdk\fastboot>fastboot flash system system.img
sending 'system' (197356 KB)...
i have flashed another system image as well as clockwork mod which have both worked fine
Should I be using flashtool or recovery for this? For some reason, recovery isn't seeing the image.

you should flash it on Fastboot mode.
By the way, thomassafca, could you point to ressources for learning how to make these images? I want to do a gaming-focused one (with Snes9x pre-installed and other goodies). If you feel an MP is a better way, please send one

And how would I install apk's not belonging to the original system partition? Simply move them to the /system/app folder before the nandroid backup?
what is the pre-requisite in order to flash this rom? does the XP need to be rooted and unlocked?

Correct, but make sure you chmod 644 after moving them (or RW-R-R in root root explorer)

The bootloader should be unlocked else you can't flash the image
Thanks FrAsErTaG, for answering some questions!
Logseman,
If you make a Games related System Image, would you be including the games that come with the phone?
All the best,
NSCXP2005
Good question. The answer is probably negative. I am more inclined towards emulation gaming, and the games which come with the phone are not my cup of tea (Star Battalion is all right, but that's about it for me).
Oh man if I had an unlocked bootloader I would upload mine I've got ALL the games plus the games in the Xperia play app

How many times have you gone through this: download a new ROM, backup all your apps with Titanium, reboot into recovery, perform a nandroid backup, wipe, install new ROM, boot and set up, then restore all your apps and data. Yeah, it's crazy. And it takes forever.
What if you could cut that time by a solid 20 or 30 minutes? Thanks to a new feature just incorporated in Titanium Backup, you can. With the newest update to TB Pro, you can now create a flashable zip of all your apps and data. That means that you can flash all your goodies right after a new ROM and fire up a system that's ready to go right out of the box.
You can try here
And for Pro here
uhh..... welcome to android?
EDIT: ahh... nvm... just realised that u pointed out the update.zip creation of backups well yea that is a nice feature
Who does not know for this app its not made for Android.

Hey i have trouble viewing the update.zip in CWM ( i change the name to titanium app+data;would that matter? i already have a folder named update.zip that's why) i can view if in my File Manager by CM. But no matter where i put the file it does not show up in CWM. And yes i did run the program first. And have tried installing and uninstalling it 3 times as well as a fresh slate on phone.
I am running unofficial CM10 11/2/2012 build for samsung infuse

I got the update yesterday and my battery life has dropped 6 hours since......
May I ask to those having battery issue, do you have the AOD on? I don't have any battery degradation ATM but I don't use AOD before and in 9.1.. AOD uses battery too so that might be the cause.
I've never used AOD and since 9.1 my battery life has dropped by 25%-50%. Never had issues with the battery before this update.
