Hello,
i have a galaxy s2 with checkrom revo4 snd kernel siyah 2.5.1. i am pretty satisfied with the battety except with wifi.
if i leave wifi on, my phone will run out of battery in 10-12 hours even with minimal use (screen on time is about 1 hour). that means the battery drains 7-8%/h when the phone sleeps.
i saw some people phone which lasts 30 hours with wifi all the time (not sure he is on an extended battery).
so i really want to know if this kind of draining is normal? if not is there anyway to diagnose the problem and fix it? thank you very much.
i attached a screencap of my battery usage.
Do you have a d link router?

Bottom line keeping your wi-fi on is going to drain your battery way faster. I'm not sure why you would need to keep it on for 10 hours.. even 30 hours.
Perhaps the stats you saw lasting that long had all other radios turned off? That is the only scenario I can see something like that working.

not always. If wifi is always on but not connected then it will be constantly scanning and draining battery. But if its connected, (i.e at home), then it can save you battery depending on how good your network reception is. I get poor reception at home from my network and so if i turn wifi off but leave the syncs on the battery is working hard to try pulling in enough signal to work. I leave wifi on and i lose virtually nothing overnight.
edit: just to add i use checkrom v4 too with speedmod 18 and dont have any issues
I've been having exactly the same problems with this ROM and pretty much any kernal. Haven't been able to find a cure.

There have been a few threads where users have had similar issues wifi draining battery and the d link routers causing this.
Do a search for them some users suggested updating the router firmware, another flashed dd-wrt and for them that stopped the drain.

I keep getting contradictory information. Some say that the Kernal affects wifi performance not the modem, others say its the modem that affects wifi.

There's no option to set it to turn off automatically when the screen's off on my phone in the WiFi sleep policy menu. An app called Tasker can do it though, as well as setting it to turn off all data when the screen is off, etc.
My fix with an updated DLink DIR-615: change WPA2 Protection from TKIP+AES to AES (TKIP only did not work with my i9100). In G Only it seemed draining even less (quick test), but I got this router for N+G and it seems working now.
Lately I've been having major issues with my processor getting extremely hot. It only warms up when the screen is on. Normally I wouldn't care but it gets hot enough I can barely touch the screen (over 100° F) and results in major battery drain (battery drain doesn't bother me because in using it, but it still seems too high). Does anyone know a few tips or tricks to keep the temp down? Currently I'm running on AOKP and have the default kernel but I also experience the issue with siyah kernel as well. Thanks I will advance B-)

More likely than not you probably have some kind of rogue app running in the background, but without any more information, that's all I can tell you. Try installing BetterBatteryStats for wakelocks, or tell us what apps you have installed, or a screenshot of what's draining your battery.
Did u full wipe before installing the Rom? If not, there's no reason to post this issue until u have. If u already have, then as stated above,u need to find which app is causing the problem. Definitely not a Rom problem, just an fyi for others who may read this.

I also have been having problems with my cpu overheating. And my screen does not want to turn back on and phone reboots into safe mode. And will randomly turn on and off. Any one has any ideal what could be causing it, and is it bad for your phone to go into safe mode.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using xda premium
No it's not bad for your phone to go into safe mode, but once again, please provide more details!
It's definitely not because I did not wipe... However I will check out better battery stats I didn't think it would be an app causing the over heating because as I said it only occurs when the screen is on. I was thinking it would be more kernel related (voltage levels or governor related). Thanks tho I'll report back with battery stats

I thought getting hot with AOKP was just par for the course, like the weird keyboard bug.
Mine gets pretty hot all the time, with normal use. I full wipe each update, most recently when installing the update on 7/3. I use Fluxxi kernel as is with no oc or voltage changes. Its hot while using wifi or data, and battery life seems normal.
Over the last 13 hours I have 3% time above 800 MHz, 35 seconds of wake lock for network location.

Can somebody help. My sgs3 battery seem to drain like a loose drain. I charge 100% at 12.30am and go to sleep but by 5am battery is completely drained and phone is dead off. This is not the same during the day. Are there processes running when the phone is Idle that brings about this massive drain. Please I need help asap.

Search battery drain on Google for this device....lots of results,b but it generally comes down to learning how to use your phone and it's features, and when and what stuff to turn off etc etc
I don't leave anything on. I ensure I disable prefetch on my YouTube, disable auto updated on dropbox, I don't use SNS, and off course screen time out after 10 sec.

There is obviously a problem if it's dying in <5 hrs.
Did you recently connect to Kies because I was having probs with my SGS2 getting really hot and losing power as a result of Kies/a dodgy USB lead?
A factory reset solved it however ( remember to back up ) but sometimes just removing your battery for 90 seconds to reset the values works.
Good luck.

Turn off Google backup, face awake, try that for starters
First of all, switch off your phone for a while to see if there is problem in battery or its the apps you are running. If you think it is a stupid step,
Then try using some software like JuiceDefender or something.
In app manager, kill apps that are useless.
Also turn off features like bluetooth, gps etc. if on.
Reduce phone's brightness, recommended to set it to "auto".
Turn off useless vibrations and LED notifications.
You should now see significant improvemance in battery life.
Hope this helps
I have taken all these steps gone ahead to remove live wall paper, auto sync disabled, brightness is set at auto. And its still the same. I don't want to tow the line of hard reset because am not sure that would solve the problem coupled with the time it would take to get my sgs3 to suite me

I use juice defender which manages everything for me, an overnight schedule ensures the battery only drops by 1 or 2%
Sent via TCP/IP
okay so i thought i had a battery problem before i tried putting my phone aside (meaning no games, no internet browsing and no video streaming nothing, just using whatsapp and leaving facebook connected. I also have lots of apps and games installed over 15 or something)
If you decreasing screen time you will notice a HUGE difference (24hrs in my case), its basically down to usage, I have tried over 10 different roms and kernels as well as the v6 supercharger script, i dont ever notice the difference, EVER. unless of course i use a minimalistic rom with almost nothing to play around with, but if thats how u like it then go for that. Id say following all the fundamental steps will take you a long way
my final advice:
less screen time
when on the screen use the least brightness available
decrease stock brightness even more if you can
less app usage
if your not one to constantly play with your phone and customize stuff on it try installing a minimal rom like
|ROM|XXBLG8| IOIDroid Super Slim Edition | Buttery Smooth | V1.0.0 LIVE !! |
or
[ROM][4.0.4] Slim ICS (SGS3) - Clean, Simple & Fast (63MB)
i dont know if this is a placebo of not, but sometimes i notice improvements when i undervolt, underclock and limit to only dual core. believe it or not sometimes it has little or the adverse effect of saving battery
good luck man
And another question, which can be solved through the search function or Google -.-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=937080
So here is my experience. Have been using android for years, have had an hd2 so I know how to get good battery life results. For some reason I easily lost 15-20% overnight with just the gsm 2g radio on. No matter what I did it drained fast even though deep sleep was fine, all extras sync and etc were off. 3hrs screen on time in 14 hours and it was dead.
I kept waiting for an update to solve this and it never came even though I was force checking it.
I ended up factory resetting the phone and as soon as it booted up an ota update popped up. Since then I am having nearly 6hrs screen on time in 40hrs,which is amazing.

I will try the juice defender route and hope that it solves my problem or else I will be forced to tow the hard reset route.

Greetings, I have seen a similar problem back in our hox forums. I have come here in peace to help, though. Recently, someone suggested bump charging, it's like a natural way of making your battery recalibrate itself without wiping battery stats or stuff like that.
First off, charge the battery until it says 100% while the device is on.
Then remove the charger, turn off the power, and charge again.
Remove the charger again when it says full while the device is off.
Turn it on again, then when it's properly booted, charge again, but don't use the device until it says it's fully charged already.
Mind you, we're not sure if it's just a placebo or not. Some claims to have had better battery life after doing this for once a month. I haven't tried it yet, but I thought I could share it here too.

Just to offer two cents from my experience with this phone.
I recently got a replacement for my s3.. the details of that are for another post, but this relates to battery:
when I first got the phone i started using it right away. I did not charge the battery until I got to the office and charged the phone while using it the first day.
when I got the second replacement phone I already had a second battery.
This battery was fully charged and immediately used that in the new phone. fully charged the samsung battery before I used it.
I noticed significantly better performance with the second phone. I think it was because of the way i treated the battery strait out of the box.
any one agree, or have a similar experience?

I also have all my weather and news on manual update so i dont get what can drain the battery with internet off overnight.. its frustrating a bit.
Hello. I picked up my s3 this morning after having charged that night. I unplugged it at about 1 in the morning, with airplane mode on, bluetooth off, and WiFi connected. When I woke up though at 10, the battery had dropped down to 80 percent while in standby, with no recent apps even running. I'm not sure if this is normal or if it's a battery problem but it's quite annoying, because it drained 20 percent in 9 hours of standby. Any help is appreciated.

Maybe caused by ~LG8 OTA combined with dual-band WiFi network?
I posted this over in another forum, but copying here to see what you all think...
..............
I don't know this for a fact, but I've read some things that lead me to believe the issue may (again, not confirmed), MAY be related to the recent ~LG8 OTA push. The root (no pun intended) cause is related to how the SG3 interacts in 802.11n band Wi-Fi networks that utilize multi-band (i.e. 2.4Ghz combined and 5Ghz running simultaneously).
One of the "features" of ~LG8 was to remove Advanced options for Wi-Fi networks, switching the connectivity logic to "automatic." If a GS3 is in a multi-band 'n' Wi-Fi network, it MAY be switching back and forth between bands, thus chewing up battery without actually pulling any data.
This is unconfirmed, so don't shoot the messenger. Can any of you validate whether or not the Wi-Fi networks where you see excessive drain is indeed a multi-band 'n' network?

This sounds like it could be a possible cause. I'll have to try out some multi band n networks in the next few days or so and see if there's any effect.

Since I rooted my phone and installed P.A.C rom I've been having random battery drain during the day even when not using my phone. Often I check and see Android OS using a lot of battery.
My phone gets really hot sometimes as well, often when charging (when this happens the charging doesn't seem to be charging fast either). It gets to around 46-50 degrees c.
I've had good mobile service, and usually keep all the battery draining services (Wi-Fi etc) off. What could be causing this? I was really keen on rooting my phone and gaining all this functionality but now it just seems to be giving me problems.
