Charged to 100%, calibrated battery and got 8 hours before battery was completely spent and phone turned off.
Use was moderate with Web surfing, email and a single 10 minute call. Both wifi and LTE use.
This is almost about 100% increase from what I had been getting before calibrating battery.

Sweet.......
Sent from the baddest cellphone ever made.
Not impressed with my battery at all.
Good standby time but that's about it. I'm in an HSPA area and it's still bad.
Another thing that bothers me is the time it takes to charge. My battery will occasionally DROP even if it's plugged into a wall just because I'm using it. It's depressing
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using Tapatalk
Just over 22h unplugged- about 20 minutes wifi use and the rest was going in and out of LTE (Atlanta) and H+ zones. 25mins of voice calls too. I'm in love with my battery life.

Screen on 2.5 hrs, not sure that's accurate spent alot of time playing games and surfing internet. If you guys have bad battery life turn your display all the way down. The display on the lowest setting is brighter than some phones on the medium to high setting. I typically get thru my work day with 70% left. Then by the time i hit the hay its around 20-30%.

I had that happen to me at first. I tried using a different usb cable that I had along with the stock charger and haven't had that happen since.
im averaging about 18 to 20 hrs of use with about 3 hours or maybe a little more of on screen time. I can easily make it through the day so I am good. Now I will say that I am using JD to help me get there.
I spend alot of time reading forums and some technical websites, lots of work emails (corporate admin here so I get a ton) my calls arent usually long ones unless they are support related so I average about 30 min total time of calls for a day and average about 30 texts. I put this as moderate usage. I dont know how some people get 5+ hours of on screen and still make it 24hrs tho...
There are noway you guys can get it 5 hours screen on unless you charge it a bit more at the middle. Mine is 3:15 mins and 3:30min with Juice Defenders

Here ya go naysayer.
First pic is screen on time, second is right before I put the phone on charge before bed. Made it to 21h officially that day. After screenshot of screen-on time, there was no more screen usage for the next hour when I plugged it in... might have lasted longer but Gmail caused a wakelock the last hour and ate some battery. (Sending a big photo and it stuck)
No charge, no juice defender, nothing but usage.
Check my usage graph rrreeeaaalll closely. No charging.
Now, stop incinuating that we are liars when we get stellar battery life. Something is up with your device.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium
By the way, juice defender mostly increases standby time. Not much else. We can't do anything for things like the battery being used by the screen.
Which is why this battery sucks. I get more frustrated with it each day....
But I'm very happy with the GPS performance and screen quality

On one of the other battery threads, a poster gave a few commands to be used in a terminal window to see at what amperage the charger was running. The factory supplied AC charger was around 700 millamps (IIRC). I tested the cylinder style charger that came with MY HP Touchpad and it puts out 1000 milliamps.
This seems to be a handy way to ensure your charger of choice is putting out enough juice to charge your phone.
Here are the commands that pj_rage posted (phone needs to be rooted to run these):
cat /sys/class/power_supply/battery/batt_current_adc
cat /sys/class/power_supply/battery/charging_source
The reported number should be a 0, 1, or 2. 0 = no charger connected, 1 = data lines NOT shorted, USB normal charge, and 2 = data lines ARE shorted, AC fast charge.

I have poor batery but that's because 1 house of the day I'm playoff draw somethug and that is a major killer! Takes up about 50% of my battery! So I just miniseries the use of t took I get home but still its really hard ob NY battery!

Only way to get like 5+ hrs is to use you phone really aggressively right when you remove it from the charger. Web browsing is 3 minutes per percent on my end.
3 minutes / percent x 60 minutes = 300 / 60 = 5 hrs screen time.
Btw: this is on STOCK with display on 10.

I had wifi and Bluetooth running from 7:45 am until 5:30 pm ,those are my working hours.. The only thing i change is my phone brightness, because i know that runs down a battery for sure. Im freaking amazed..

Extended battery's are awesome...sure you have to sacrifice size, but not that much....but its well worth it.
Looking at your battery stats will be a thing of the past.
And the car charger, I don't even know where I left it at
E3D comes off the charger at 830am
I have everything on, all full time..Gps get used about 1 to 2 hours worth every day ,wifi,4g,bluetooth,auto bright is off and brightness is on max,3 apps updating every hour,150 text,3 hours more or less talk time, moderate to heavy internet use with 4g..
When I get home at night about 9pm I have About 20 to 30% left
On the weekends I don't use the phone as much only on talk time.
I unplug from charger on saturday 7am and by sunday night i have 80% left
4000 mah seido
I just received my extended battery any tips for first use of it. Do I need to wipe battery stats? As I understand all you do is put it in the phone as soon as you get it and then drain it completely then charge it to 100% unplug take battery out then repeat until you take it out put it back in and it reads 100% immediately, is that correct?

I think you have to wipe your battery stats, but first let it drain it completely. If you are rooted use the current widget while it is in charge, and when ONLY this widget shows to you 100%, then from Rom Manager boot to recovery (do not unplug the phone), then wipe the battery stats from there, reboot the phone, and when it goes to 100% again, then unplug the phone. I use the stock battery and the battery lasts for 30 hours, having the data always on, calls around 1 hour, screen time around 3.5 hours. Its not bad at all i think.

you must be in an area with kick-ass signal strength. I am always barely hovering above 0 bars and get like 16 hours of normal (heavy) use and can get 24 hours out of it if I mellow out data use, screen on auto brightness, wifi off, bluetooth off, 4g off, toggle mobile data off when I know I won't use it for a while, disable background data and syncing.
Shoot I was lucky if I got 8 hrs of light use on my stock battery.

Maybe I've done something wrong but last night this new battery drained completely. I followed my instructions in the last post. Wiped battery stats when the app said 100% and not before. My phone has now been off the charger for 30 mins and I've already lost 12% I wasn't using my phone I was outside mowing my lawn. This is the 3500mah battery from handheld

What is the deal with this phone? The battery life is not very good at all. I came from a phone that had a 1150 battery and this one has 1600! I am getting almost identical battery life as my old phone. I am running a fully debloated rom at stock clocks with the display turned all the way down and can HARDLY make it through an 8 hour work day. I've narrowed it down to the screen.
I remember reading about amoled when it was first announced and they said it would consume significantly less power than any other display technology. I'm starting to second guess this.
Its either the screen or the dual core processor that's draining this decent sized battery so fast.

Amoled does. From what ive beem read ing super amoled plus.is alot better. The darker the better. Slcd is.a.good option for battery mizers though.
I voided my warranty and your mum.
Yes ive also read that the way super amoled plus works, is there is no backlight and individual pixels light up, so its better to have simple wallpapers with mostly black, would probably give you better battery life, as most of the screen will no be using any energy.
All android devices murder their batteries. It's nothing new get over it lol.
This device gets decent battery life considering it's the most powerful option out currently though.
The general masses do not understand how to set these phones up for optimal battery life. There are threads all over XDA on how to do this.
This phone for android is probably the best or near best in its class. I am impressed. Its better than my captivate was. I can get through 15 hour days with heavy use all the time with average of 4 hours screen time and i listen to a lot of music when the screen is off. This phone rocks i dont even see the need for a extended battery

I have no idea what you do with your phone or what . But I get more then enough battery with this phone, I do it all text talk surf web forums play and I make it home with enough battery to probably lend you some. Seriously we all know your not going to get iPhone battery life obviously the iPhone it just plain simple. But come on, this type of thread it's getting annoying there's a few already with help and tips on your issue search for them. Maybe you just got high hopes, or maybe it's not the phone it's you. BTW Amoled probably consume less battery but not enough for us power hungry users to see a different.

I don't think is the screen alone itself but the dual-core running at 1.2Ghz might eat more battery than your old phone with an smaller battery

You might want to install CPUSpy and BetterBatteryStats (BBS) so you can better diagnose where your battery issues are coming from. 8 hours seems very poor for this device. Use CPUSpy to see how much your device is running in deep sleep - with light usage I usually see around 80% deep sleep. You can use BBS to look for apps causing excessive wakelocks (BBS is available here on xda) to see if a particular app is causing the problem.
Unless you have a hardware problem, I don't think the display is your problem - the display on this device has a smaller percentage hit on battery use than my 3.2" LCD Aria.

Yet you've completely ignored people who have told you to get CPUSpy and BetterBatteryStats to figure out what's keeping your phone awake.
Most likely your phone is not defective, but you've installed an app that's hogging the battery or set up a configuration option that kills it, such as:
Hotmail calendar sync is known to cause massive battery drain due to a Hotmail server side bug
Some Exchange servers are misconfigured and cause major battery drain
Skype is a battery-hogging nightmare. If you absolutely have to use Skype, make sure to take it out with a task killer when you're done with it.
I haven't really pushed my device with screen-on time, however what are your idle battery drain statistics? If you have drain more than 2-3% per hour when the phone is idle (such as overnight), something is very wrong. You should be getting drain on the order of 1% an hour if you leave the phone overnight in moderate signal.

I havent ignored anyone. You assume that because I haven't responded to such comments that I haven't tried them. I frequently use cpuspy to make sure my phone is sleeping and I use bbs as well.
I'll leave the phone off the charger overnight to check it out though.
This still doesn't change the fact that HEAVY useage at 5+ hours of screen on time is absurd.
I am also planning to experiment with airplane mode and using only wifi tomorrow.

You can still exchange with a new one under 14 days or 30 days. 6 hours with screen on is not absurd on this phone in 12 hours. I have been with screen on with 2:45 hrs and voice with 45 min in 1 day and 8hrs with still 15+ % battery juice left.

IIRC, one of the review or comparison against iPhone4S benchmarked GS2 as 5 to 6 hours of internet browsing which means both screen on and using data. Wi-fi gives it a slightly longer battery life than cell data. Unfortunately, it didn't benchmark video playback time. iPhone4S spec says 8 hours of video. I hope GS2 is close to that. This is play video from local storage, not streaming. So, the data connection battery draw is out of picture. I managed to get 4+ hours of video playback with flight mode on with my old Captivate. Hopefully, GS2 will last longer, e.g. survive a coast to coast flight while still have some juice left for navigation.

He's not lying. I have seen 5 hours of screen on time and still had a little juice left at the end of 16 hour days. And it wasn't a one time deal. Seen it several times, though I usually don't use my phone that heavily. Yesterday I barely used my phone at all and was only down to like 85% after 16 hours.
Got the seidio 4000mah extended battery in the mail yesterday. This this is a beast! Glad I made the $58.94 investment.

How big is the brick now?
7 hours and still at 92%, nice!! As DarkMan asked, how big is it now?
If only the Defender case would fit around an extended battery. My phone dies too fast with Bluetooth on all day and making calls all day for work. Plus the loads of texts and surfing, lol.
O snap! Thats amazing.....
How long has the screen been on?

I would like to see the display on time during that period. And also the wake time by pressing on the graph. I could get the same screenshot on my OEM battery by leaving it off and sitting on my desk for 7 hours.

Sure that would show some nice info, but with the 3D there's no way the stock battery would only use 8% in 7 hours even with the screen off (unless mobile data was shut off.)

Um...yeah...on WIFI at home, I can leave my phone unplugged and even with push syncing on my gmail and exchange account, if I leave it on my nightstand, it will only use about 10% over 8 hours. I will do it tonight and post up a screenshot tomorrow morning.

To be honest I think that WiFi uses less battery than mobile data, so even with the push email it'll use less than just the mobile data without push. Let me rephrase what I said then. There's no way I'll ever see that little loss over that length of time, even without using the phone just in my pocket I lose 10% in less than 2 hours.

Wow, again, no way I'd ever see that battery life. I'm running Steel's ROM with one of the dual core kernels, nothing that should be draining it, just crappy data here so I guess it struggles to work draining the battery.

A weak cell signal is really rough on the battery. I use wifi at work and home, both have full signal 90% of the time. If my phone is just sitting there at idle it barely uses any battery. Showing battery life since unplugged really isn't giving any info. Up Time and Awake Time since unplugged, with either Data or Wifi on, is what everyone should be showing. That actually gives everyone a general idea of battery life...
With my Anker 1900mah batteries, I get from 20-34 Up with 5-6 Awake, depending on my usage.

you have some serious wakelock issues.. thats probably why you get ****ty battery life
I, on the other hand get ****ty battery life because of the ****ty signal and ****ty coverage sprint has in my area... dropped more than 40% in 7hours with the phone just sitting there

If you look at the time where the battery dropped the most, your phone was awake but the screen was off that whole time. There is an app that is keeping your phone awake. I have never had that problem before but I am sure that there is a program on the market that would help find the culprit.

Which battery monitor program are you using?
I know this topic is always repeated but I fly I should havr made a thread anyway. This morning, in 15 minutes of web browsing, I lost 3% battery. In 10 minutes, I lost 2%, so it seems to be progressive. I just got this phone Friday.
That can't be normal, is it? I don't want to return it but I will if its a bartery issue. Could it be as simple as buying a new battery?

Most people report good battery stats. Give it a week and see if it settles down. Might need a few recharge cycles to level out.
As mentioned, the OS needs a few power cycles to generate its Batt Stats to give you a more accurate baseline. Also if you need your device to last all day and into the evening with no supplimental charging, you may want to look into taking certain measures to ensure your battery life is sipped and not gulped. I am not sure your level of experience or you tech knowledge, but basically anything having to do with comms is going to suck life. BT, wifi, 2g/3g/4g, and gps are what we’re talking about. You can manage these manually or use apps to do it for you such as Juice Defender and 3gWatchdog to name a couple. My office is in the bowels of the building where reception is spotty. The first week with this phone, my battery was at 40% by lunch time. This is because it was constantly searching for signal and when it did get one, it was being forced to high power to maintain it. Since I really don’t use my handset much in my office, I decided to take drastic measures to see what could be done. I installed the previous mentioned software already to keep my data use under control (came from a unlimited plan sucking down 8-12 gigs/mon on average) so with a few tweaks it was set to assist me. So when roaming my building I check it occasionally and when in my office I switch to airplane mode since I have my email in front of me and I use Google Voice to ensure all my calls find me no matter where I’m at. I arrive at work at 0700 and stay charged in on my drive to work. So at 0700 I was at 100%. I switched to AP mode after 15 minutes of typical goodmorning watercooler talk. At 1200 I looked at my Note and it read 99%. I went to lunch and opened all connections up while in our cafateria and after 45 minutes I was down 5% with comms going and lots of email and FB browsing. I’m back in my office and still at 95%. Obviously not everybody can follow the scheduled use as I laid out, but it works for me since I don’t have signal anyways and will make day much easier when I have to do lots of running and wont be plugging in untill tonight around 2300 except when commuting. I’m hoping this trend of juice sipping continues on for the rest of the day.
Screen brightness\use also is a big juice sucker. So, with the big screen on the note you need to be mindful of that, too.
Thank you for taking your time on that long informative answer!
Asides, today at school, my phone was on complete idle standby with lowest possible brightness and Wifi off (but mobile data on) and by 2:00 (6-2 so 8 hours) I'm down from 90% to 75%.
Is it defective or is what I'm getting normal?
Edit: Forgot to add I have a Tasker that disables mobile data when turning the screen off.
Edit 2: The Tasker profile is for the screen facing down, not being off.
Still, is that not a lot?

What are you complaining about those are great numbers. Losing 1% every 5 minutes means 500 minutes of screen on time, which is 7 hours and 10 minutes. Remember that's just with the screen on. With the screen off and sitting in your pocket you will lost about 1% per hour.
2g/3g/4g...each step you take the worse it is on battery. Restrict to 2g (edge) if you arnt downloading or doing anything. There's lots of toggles. What Juicedefender does is kills the connections untill you turn the screen on and I believe periodically between screen ons to pull any texts and such. The weaker the signal strength (bars) the more battery its using in order to stay connected. Try a few things and you'll be surprised at how stepping in a little to restrict its juice use will make a difference in battery life. Plus, as mentioned, give a few days to build those batt stats up, then it will give a more accurate measure of the current capacity.

So you lost about 2% an hour. Typically you should see 1% per hour. So either you were in a low signal area which caused it to use more power to find a signal, or else you last charged it with a USB charger which prevents it from going into deep sleep (known bug). Or you could have a misbehaving app.
Download CPUSpy from the market an BetterBatteryStats from XDA and see if your phone is deep sleeping and check for wakelocks.
I last charged it with the OEM Samsung charger.
Is that the problem? The reason I started this thread is because I see people reporting (yes I know) that on standby they get great battery life.

Every phone discharges differently, especially when new. The overall life is what's important as to whether it's acceptable to you or not. Give it 2-3 days of good ol fashion heavy use. A few good full charge then full discharge are good for getting a good baseline. I remember one of my phones would lose it's top 10% (100 to 90) in a matter of minutes of being unplugged, but then would be fine the rest of the day. This is what I mean by the overall being the important part. But the rogue app part could be something to look into. Aften when we get new phones we go hog wild with new apps with the "lets see what this baby can do" mentality, I say this because I am very very very guilty of it. Sometimes you get an app that malfunctions or is just straight BS. There some that open by itself. Some that you get Ppush notifications about buying ingame currency for and other shady stuff. I try to install only a couple apps a day to keep an eye on weird stuff happening.
Thanks for the replies everyone.
Chief Greek, are you seeing around my results or do you think it is simply a matter of my battery stats not being correct as you said?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium
I have been using my method I stated in my first reply. Here I sit about 9 hours later and my phone is at 92% with no supplimental charging.
Do you know of a way to get a 4G toggle into the dropdown menu for easy access alongside Wifi, Rotation, etc?
Those are some good stats though.
Edit-One app I do have installed is "RAM Manager" and I replaced Samsung settings with settings in app. Could that be detrimental&
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium
Havnt played with ram manager, although used something called cachemate before. Seemed to do the trick when phone was acting goofy or very lagged out. I would wait a few days and see if it levels out. Keep screen off when you dont need to use it and if you really really want to do something about it now, install the free juice defender and see how you like it. If you like it and want more controls, upgrade to one of their pad versions.

I loose 1% per 20-30 minutes on standby =/ What settings do you have/how many apps do you have? Do you keep Wifi/Mobile Data on all the time? Reason being, I want to get this figured out before I root/go any further. If it is indeed my own issue, I want to to get it sorted out. Is it worth a factory reset?
Not to get off topic but are the batteries from the international version and the Att version the same? Could they be a different type or manufacturer?

I am not an expert answer on this but yes, I'd like to think so. In some cases it would not be the same (being that ATT has NFC and International does not) but considering the NFC chip is NOT in the battery, it leads me to believe that the they are the same 2600mah batteries.
So, I was just with Samsung chat agent (who probably didn't know a lot about the phone) and she said lost of 25% was normal standby. Am I the only one with this? Techntreck, you get hours on standby?

10% Battery left at this point. I started the day with 100% at 6:20am. It's 7:58pm (19:58) now. Is this bad?
okay well today I decided I wanted an upgrade, Im not eligible until Feb 1st (or a few days after) so I called tech support and was crying about how my upgrade is 2 weeks away and how i really want a new phone. so long story short, they directed me to my local verizon store after changing the date to today; an hour later home with the DNA.
and I am impressed.
I have the galaxy note 10.1 as my main tablet, and the Droid Dna is much snappier than that, and their specs are pretty much the same.
so as much as I "hate" htc, i bough the dna because i thought it looks cool, and im glad I did
and I dont hate HTC, im just one of those frustrated T-bolt users lol, and now my grandpa is rocking the t-bolt and loves it...if only he knew what android 4.0 was......

time to start tinkering!
I love it
But the only issue I have is with wireless charging
It takes forever, and I have that nokia one, not sure of the official model number, but its the size of an apple mighty mouse and looks similar
So does anyone know why wireless charging takes so long?
And I do not have a case on it

Really?
It only lasts about 7 for me:/
And this is day 2, so I jay take it back and exchange for another dna, as this could be a faulty battery, or sidegrade to a s3
Now heres what my usage is;
Im a college student, so my phone is off charger by 730 am (from the night before) and comes to school until about 3 or so.
In just those 8 hours, with wifi off, gps off, brightness set to auto, and only like 30 mins of screen on time; its at like 30-35
And 3 isnt a good time to die cause I have the rest of the day I need it, so is it me using it wrong or maybe bad battery?
Cause im debati on going to verizon tomorrow to replace it with a s3 or a new dna

why would that possibly prolong the battery life?
my signal at my school is maximum bars , and 4g.
and okay, ill be heading over to verizon in a few minutes to see what they wanna do
because the dna should get at least 12 hours of my "low-average" usage
and okay, ill try to get a new DNA and if I do ill put the brightness somewhere in the middle instead of auto brightness.
thanks all!
Try this app: Deep Sleep Battery Saver. It has worked wonders on my DNA's battery life. It turns off apps and the radios for the WiFi and Mobile Data when the device's screen goes dark. At set intervals, it'll wake up the radios and download email, etc. You can also whitelist apps that you do not want the app to shut off, like an alarm clock app or an SMS app. You will still receive your phone calls. As of this writing, I have 94% battery 5 hours after I disconnected the phone from the charger. I have made a few calls and texts. I haven't used data since I am at work and am in front of a computer the whole day.

I agree with what everyone else said - you probably had a defective unit. I use my DNA much more than you do, with Auto-sync on, Background data on, Mobile Network always on, Brightness at around 40%. In my daily commute, I total around an hour of time spent underground in a subway station with no signal. Given all this, with ~3-4 hours of screen-on time, my phone lasts me from 7:45 in the morning all the way through until ~12 midnight with usually at least 20% battery life left. I don't know if it means anything, but I charged my phone fully before turning it on for the first time (I didn't even let the Verizon store rep turn it on to activate it for me - I told him to not even open the box). If you're interested, this is what I did:
1. Made sure the phone was not turned on at any point before I took it out of the box.
2. Took the phone out of the box without turning it on and plugged it in.
3. Waited for the light to turn green, then unplugged it and let it sit for a few minutes.
4. Re-plugged the phone (the light would be orange again), and waited for it to turn green.
5. Repeated the unplugging and replugging process until the light turned green almost immediately upon plugging in.
6. Turned the phone on and did the activation and all that fun stuff.
7. Used the phone normally, and did not charge it until the battery was fully depleted (turned off by itself because battery was too low).
8. Fully charged the phone until it was full again (without turning it on).
9. Repeated the unplugging and replugging process again until the light turned green almost immediately upon plugging in.
10. Turned it on and started using it normally from that point on.
I'm a bit OCD with my phone battery But hey, it seems to have worked out well for me so I'm happy!
Juicedefender is the best free battery saver I have tried.. Just having it on the balanced pre-set made a difference.. After suffering through the Tbolt, Droid razr, and Gnex, I'm pretty happy with the battery

Well I unfortunately went to the dark side, no not the company with a piece of fruit for a logo...samsung
And I wanted the dna but the lady told me that the battery life is normal for that phone cause of the big screen with 1080p and a quad core processor. I tried to disagree a little, but then she told me she has had the s3 since its launch and she hasnt had an issue yet. So I played with her phone, cause demo units are almost always bogged down. And I liked it.
So as of now, im off the htc bandwagon....but hopefully ill be back in about 8 months when my next line is available for upgrade
