Hello, all. I just got a 16 gb Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 at Costco today. After comparing it with my mother's Iconia A500, I noticed that mine looks alot different, probably Samsung's own branding. To be honest, it's black on white style looks more like the ugly android 2.x style, rather than the normal Honeycomb/ICS style white/blue on black/navy, and I was wondering if there was anyway to make it look more like the normal h.c/ics. Is there? When I feel like it, I'll root it and put cm9 on. Also, I'd love to have honeycomb/ics wallpapers. Thanks in advance!
Samsung has its TouchWiz interface on top of the stock Honeycomb. You can check the Development section for other ROMs that have TouchWiz stripped out.
So it's as simple as getting a ROM without the Touch-wiz?
Sweet, thanks
You can get a 3.1 rom which is vanilla honeycomb before touchwiz, or get Overcome which is themed with a stock-ish look to vanillla honeycomb.
Thanks guys! I decided to go ahead and root finally and just went AOKP Ice Cream Sandwich that Roman posted and I am loving it!
If only the camera worked...

Hi guys! What you think? Is it possible to bring new Android into SGS2?
I was watching at Hong Kong conference. So I'm excited. Probably I'll buy new phone - Galaxy Nexus. So what's your opinion? Is it possible? I'm noob .
Very possible. Google Nexus is not that much of a hardware leap from the SGS2. It will come to the SII

watched the event myself as well... Not too much impressed tho... Its coming on verizon for now.
Give it time… you'll see a ROM or two out by Thanksgiving IMO. The sdk has been released, and once the Nexus hits the market, and a system dump is "in the wild", devs will cook ROMs like crazy!

doop - I think so after week it will be new rom here.
ceo.mtcl - Why? It looks phenomenal!
jjhiza - I agree with you
Is ICS's native GUI hardware accelerated by GPU?? From the demo, it doesn't seems perfectly smooth to me. Although Android 3.x was promoted as hardware accelerated GUI, I still find it very laggy scrolling through the homepages when there are some widgets. Putting it besides iPads, it's really a negative to Android.
Not supposed to say this maybe, but I'm underwhelmed by the UI in ICS. Had the same feeling about much of Honeycomb, really.
The UI is looking more and more Metro-like and ultra minimalist to the point of absurdity with every iteration. :shudder:
Flame away, but Gingerbread looks far better to me aesthetically. Give me the under the hood fixes, better multiprocessor support, etc. , but leave what works alone, IMO. If I wanted a Win-doze phone 7 device, I'd buy one.

9 months.
No but really that's a question only Samsung can answer. We have the SDK but we need a system dump and even then who knows what hurdles we have to jump to get it to function properly.
Just keep an eye on various development sections.

Earlier with cyanogenmod I would say And I am not looking for anything else because ics will be gimped to death by touchwiz
Okay, so we've already seen Ice Cream Sandwich running on the Nexus S, but that was decidedly... unofficial. We've just heard straight from Google's Gabe Cohen that the Nexus S will definitely be getting ICS. In fact, both he and Matias Duarte think most Gingerbread devices will see an upgrade, saying: "Currently in the process for releasing Ice Cream Sandwich for Nexus S. Theoretically should work for any 2.3 device." It's hardly a surprise and there's no specific word on timing just yet, but hopefully it won't take long to move that vanilla Android device up to something with a breaded exterior.
I guess that would be a yes, I can't see Samsung not updating a hugely popular handset (which has yet to have a real update) but I can not see them doing it anytime soon unless they drop the 2.3.5 update like they did with 2.3.4 to look at ICS.
As you know for Google phones it's immediately but for other brand it takes some time. Personally I think it will be after 3 or more months for official Samsung ROM.
They'll want to sell Galaxy Nexus for Christmas, but I don't expect Samsung to release for the SGS2 until New Year.

ARE YOU SERIOUS? 9 months? In 9 months Samsung ships Galaxy S4 with Android 5.0...
But system dump of Galaxy S2 or Galaxy Nexus?
Have we have to wait the Samsung official 4.0 firmware for S2?
Android 2.3.5 was out on July and Samsung official 2.3.5 for S2 was out in October... It takes 3 months, pheraps 4 monts, not 9...
<rumour>SGS2 will get ICS faster than you think. </rumour>
what can we do with the system dump that has been posted?

Of course it will kids...as soon as this stuff is out in the wild there'll be buggy stuff, and then good stuff. Wasn't the firmware for the SGS2 out before the phone was?
Everybody say:
OOOMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

I'm currently thinking about moving to Galaxy Nexus.
The two main reasons I'm thinking about it are:
- faster OS updates;
- pure AOSP: no outdated/tacky Touchwich interface;
- low lag camera obturator;
Have anyone made the move already? What would you guys suggest me? Is there any big downside in moving to Galaxy Nexus? I'm not millionaire, but money is not an issue in my case
Hmm i wouldnt. The changes arent significant and you can just use ICS Domination theme its beautiful. i would wait for the S3 ;D
FFS. This is a SGS2 forum. We don't give a **** if you're thinking of switching to the Nexus. Just do it & don't post crap like this or go post it in the Android general forum

So a pretty theme is a dealbreaker for you??
Am i missing something here
If you want to Talk about the Nexus go post in the nexus Forum
I'm sure the S II owners do not care that you want to move and feel this is a waste of a Thread in fact they will close the door on your way out

Do we know if there will be an update on the current touchwiz following the ICS release? Ive played around with the stock ICS and noticed the same touchwiz as on gingerbread. I hope samsung release a new touchwiz with a new face to it!!!
I like bits of touchwiz, but some other bits i dont like!
Please samsung release something good
I certainly hope so. I only recently flashed a custom ROM on my phone as I was waiting for orange UK to release their ICS update but after seeing a review of the ICS touchwiz update I wasn't all that impressed as it just looks the same! I suppose this is because a large proportion of phone users wouldn't appreciate a huge change to how their phone works all of a sudden. I have the HyDrOD3N-ICS rom and I like it. Just a few issues with my battery life after flashing this ROM but pretty sure i've sorted it now by changing some settings.
I would imagine we won't see any big changes to touchwiz until the GS3 is released
I doubt you'll ever see any dramatic TouchWiz upgrade on the S2, just as there was never any large update on the S1.
I can't imagine base users would appreciate a massive graphical overhaul to their phone after they've just become acquainted with the setup. If you're not happy with the TW Launcher, just install a third party launcher - plenty to choose from.
Or if you want to stick with the TW Launcher, wait for the S3 w/ TouchWiz 5.
Hello everyone,
I did a little research before opening new thread, but I couldn't find anything simiral to my question.
So,my question now!I am planning to buy an Android Device. And yes like most of the people I am in a dilemma. Now before you hasten to answer my question let me explain this : I am not looking for an answer according to hardware specs or any kind of benchmarks. What I am looking for is the following :
I really like the stock look of the ICS(yes the one that Galaxy Nexus has).So I was wondering if there is anyway to get rid of the Touchwiz from Galaxy SGSIII.After a small Google research that I did it seems that a user is not able to get rid of Touchwiz unless it replace it with another Launcher like the Launcher Pro.So what I found out that the only way to do this is to flash the phone with a custom rom, which will not contain any OEM launchers or any other third party launchers. To make this clear once and for all I am not lloking any kind of launcher that will make SGS III look like Galaxy Nexus's stock launcher,I am looking only for the stock launcher only.
So I was wondering if there is any custom rom to get rid of touchwiz and leave all the other goodies that Samsung has included like the Smart-Stay(the one that tracks your eyes in order to keep the screen on),All share,etc,... in SGS III or the only way is to buy the Nexus?
If you buy the SIII you can simply install Nova Launcher or Apex Launcher (Both available in the Play Store).
Both those launchers look exactly like the one found on the Galaxy Nexus, just with more options for customization.
Installing the launcher will hide the Touchwiz Launcher, but leave other parts of Touchwiz/Samsung software intact (Such as the smart-stay feature, S Voice, etc.).
Okay I have two questions.First,is it possible with these two launchers to have the three buttons(back button, home button and the multitask button) like the Nexus has?(Yes I know that the SGS III has the same three dedicated buttons, but I really love those three Nexus buttons)Second, are this launchers consume too much Ram or they will work without lags like touchwiz?
Okay,I know that I am not allowed to do this, but I am posting this to give to my thread a little push.Yes I know I am not the only memebr in this forum and there are 4 milllion other members.
use the search button maybe some devs at the s3 forum made one already
dude people did compare these two phones many times already.
and... unless you are a higher ranked, people most likely avoid you.
the s3 is sexy, big and yes i had hands on. Gnex is also sexy and yes i had hands on. The s3 is a little more advance so it gets a plus, but the galaxy nexus would be my choice because i look in the long run. Gnex gets updates first and its google's flagship phone as iphone is to apple.
Gnexs are coming next week preloaded with jelly bean while some people dont have ics yet. If you are like some people who can afford to buy a new phone every month then get the s3, but if you plan to go the two years get gnex
So the S2 is out of the question? The S2 probably has more custom rom than both put together (or it would at lease be close )
Hello community. In a new galaxy player. 3.6 owner. My other devices are the Verizon fascinate and Verizon galaxy s3. I would post this in q and a. But it seems xda skipped it.
I realize this forum is for. 4 and 5. But what are the differences and similarities between these devices? Is there any ability to cross roms or kernels? Is there development for 3.6?

well the 3.6 and 4.2 do "live" in this section as they are considered the "second gen" of the 4.0 and 5.0, so your in the RIGHT spot but no the 3.6 is the crappy defective "runt of the litter" and virtually no DEVS have one, this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=31823330 is ALL there is.

That's a bummer. Got it for my mom for Xmas. Was hoping to speed it up with Aosp (she has never owned a smart device) and would not know the difference. Just wanted to butter it before wrapping.
Also would be nice to have long press volume skip.
Thanks for the response. I was a little lost and confused when Google didn't find any development results.

I make it a thing, when I have to replace something (like my SGP 4.0, because my microSD slot is failing) to look for devices in my price range and then come here to xda to see what the DEV scene is like and if it's strong enough to go for it, thats how I ended up with getting Tab 2 7" to replace my SGP 4.0, it has many ROMs of all Flavors ICS, 4.1 JB, CM10.1 nightlies just started this week just a good strong and fast little device, and since it has a 4,000 mah battery I can go 3x longer between charges.
The only thing that exists for the 3.6 is root on the stock rom. If you are using a 3.6 with a physical home button then use the eu rom, otherwise (capacitive home button) use the us root.
