[Q] Delayed screen rotation... all apps. - Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet

I've searched and haven't seen anyone post about this problem so I'm sure I'm looking at restoring everything back to stock and starting over... I'm hopeful though that someone might know where I could look to see about fixing this though and avoiding starting fresh.
I'm running 1.4.0, rooted, OTA. The problem is that whenever I switch orientation the NT's screen doesn't auto rotate for about 5 seconds. If I tap the screen it'll change then too. It doesn't matter what apps are running and still occurs after a reboot. Is there a sensitivity setting for the accelerometer somewhere? Perhaps a system app whose data I should clear?
Thanks!

For the record, it seems the latest version of Button Savior is to blame. If I freeze it the problem goes away. This is consistent with the finding of others posting elsewhere and in the reviews in the Market. I haven't tried but people are reporting that turning off the auto hide/swipe to show function fixes it too but I don't want it on my screen the whole time. Does anyone happen to have an APK of the previous version available?

Touch Screen Becomes Unresponsive.....help

Ok, so I have a rooted Vibrant on stock firmware and I've been having a problem with my screen becoming unresponsive. It originally happened on a smaller level when the phone was newer and unrooted, however the problem has gotten much worse. I've done a factory reset of the phone along with a nandroid backup of it before the problem was severe, yet it comes back just as strong.
I already went through the problems with the no wake from setcpu, even thought it was my lock screen becoming unresponsive until I disabled it with NoLock. Also, I have the Logcat live wallpaper, and usually when you tap the screen, you can see the system processing the information, however when the problem occurs there is no response on the logcat live wallpaper. The phone doesn't freeze at all though. All the soft keys still work perfect as do the volume and power buttons.
Any ideas, tips, suggestions that might help me narrow down this problem? Could it be from a bad version of busybox? Autokiller maybe? I have it set to strict(was previously on aggressive) but no change. Maybe Autostarts is causing something to freeze up. Thanks for any help. Seams like these phones have alot of wake up issues.
I would reflash back to stock with Odin and see what happens when you don't have task killer, set CPU, etc. Also, be careful with autostarts
So I removed Autostarts and rebooted, same deal. I did a factory reset and still the same. I just unrooted a few minutes ago and the problem seams to have gone away. I'm gonna leave it like this for a bit without installing any apps and see what happens. Is it possoble I have a bad root.zip file or bad version of busybox? Doesn't make sense to happen when I have root, then go away when I don't. Any reason it could cause this? I'm really close to sending the phone back, but don't want to waste my time if it's just a bad root file or user error.
Well I don't know for a fact, hopefully someone more knowledgeable can chime in. Maybe when you are unrooted, changes made by autostarts no longer have the permissions to affect anything. Personally I would use Odin (have done it twice already) and start from scratch. But then you risk accidentally screwing up the phone if something goes wrong.
I removed Autostarts and rebooted just to make sure the changes took effect though. Even did a factory reset. Those removed all apps that required root access and the problem was still so bad it took me an hour to get the screen responsive again. Once I did get into my phone I booted into recover and unrooted. Restared the phone and now the issue seams to have gone away. Touch screen is very responsive now which leads me to believe it was something that had to do with the root file i'm flashing, or possibly busybox. Very very strange.
Hopefully someone much smarter than me could give some insight as to what could potentially cause the touch screens to just stop recieving signal. It's just bizarre that the phone continues to run fine, just not the screen.

auto-rotation broke

Anyone else having problems with auto-rotate on the Nexus 9? I am sure it worked, briefly, while I was setting up the tablet for the first time, but after installing a few apps (netflix, dropbox, adobe reader) and configed various email accounts and such, it stopped working. The tablet display is permanently in portrait mode, although if I play a movie in netflix it will force it to switch to to landscape whereupon it will be permanently stuck in landscape until the next shutdown and restart.
I've checked the setting on the drop down- auto-rotate is certainly enabled. I have tried disabled and re-enabling it, no difference.
I've downloaded a ball-in-labyrinth game, and I think that has indicated the issue- the sensors seem to be completely broken, no matter how I rotate the tablet the game thinks I have it in the same position and the ball just sits stuck in the upper corner of the game board.
I tried a full system restore, no difference.
I guess the next step is to call up google and go for an exchange.

Im having exactly the same issue. Except mine never worked. I would love to find out what really is the issue. I installed some sensor software and hardware seems to be the problem
Same issue here. Auto-rotation does not work.
If I want landscape mode, I have to launch a game, and then get back to the home screen...
5 minutes with the tablet and already I feel I have to exchange it.
Sensors are not working. Maybe this is a big issue for HTC. Maybe they got a bad batch from a provider.

Same problem, I solved by turning off the geolocation that seems to alter the accelerometer ... Hopefully the problem is software ... I wait for the OTA on November 12 before replacing
Same here, auto rotate does work when its wants to. Usually after reboot but gets stuck in either portrait of landscape and then is in that view mode forever more or until you reboot again
Will wait for Nov 12th update, hopefully will fix the notification light issue too

We hope to resolve, or that settling and clearing the various logs '' unlock the sensor''
Root of the problem
I also have this problem. Got N9 on preorder only for it to arrive yesterday in New Zealand. Shortly after setting up the device rotation stopped working. After searching the web I came across this.... "besttopics.net/link/185987_q-nexus-9-bug-screen-rotation" (sorry not able to post links).
It turns out that when ever the GPS radio fires up it shuts down the other sensors. Turn GPS off and rotation works fine. If its stuck you can turn the GPS off and reboot the device and things are back to normal.
This sounds like a hardware issue to me but will see what HTC say.
I have the Problem since yesterday . I activated Google now yesterday ,so this was my first guess. I just deactivated Google now and rebooted the device. It looks like that fixed it. Screen rotation works again!
Hope this helps.
Deactivating Google Now fixed mine too.
Count me in. It happened to me, twice. First time it happened, nothing seemed to help. Restarting didnt`t help. Shaking didn`t, either. So I installed a sensor monitoring app and it told me, there were no data at all from the rotation sensor. Two days later everything changed to normal behaviour, just like so. It started after watching a Netflix movie, btw.
The second time I could reactivate the sensor by starting an app called Bamboo Paper. This forced my Nexus 9 to go from landscape mode to portrait mode. And rotation worked fine since then.
So, at first glance, it seems to be a hardware problem. But then again, some apps seem to be able to trigger the `faulty` sensor. Thus, it might as well be a problem on the software side.
Let`s hope it will be solved by a future Lollipop update.
All the best from Germany,
knallgrau
It has happened again. And nothing seems to help. The Bamboo Paper app `trick` must have been just a coincidence.
I`ll call the Play Store tomorrow to have my Nexus 9 replaced.
Is anyone still having this problem after updating to 5.0.1?
Problem persists after update for me. I'll be returning soon for a number of build quality related issues.

The "shut-down-on-low-battery-when-battery-is-not-low-issue" has been almost resolved for me with the update to 5.0.1. But the rotation issue still persists. I have contacted the Play Store and immediately received an RMA. It seems to be a known issue with these htc devices. I hope the new unit does not show any of these problems.
Cheers,
knallgrau
Not sure what happened, but I tried to show someone the problem today and it was not a problem. I turned on Google Now and Location and it's working fine. Rotates without issue, for now. I'm sure that as soon as I hit the Post button, it will come back.
EDIT: I was right. It is back.
Yeah, I've found that turning Google Now on breaks screen rotation. After it breaks, I have to disable Google Now and Location Services, then reboot to get rotation working again. This has to be a glitch with 5.0.1, because this issue didn't exist for me on 5.0. Hopefully Google fixes this with the next update. I'm rather fond of Google Now, and not being able to use location services kind of hamstrings the device.

I know this is an old post but I have been having the same problems with auto rotation of the screen not working. I factory reset my device, auto rotation worked, and did a restore of the apps and it happened again. I then started over (factory reset) and reinstalled one google app at a time. I think I found the problem to be the Google Camera app. As soon as I installed it, the auto rotation stopped working (I could tell because when I went to the video setting on the Google camera app, it would not rotate to Landscape.). I uninstalled the Google camera update, force stopped the app, and disabled it. Now I have no problems with auto rotation of my screen. Also, noticed that the area around the camera would get quite hot after the Google camera app updated. Google needs to fix this for the N9!

Follow the steps I mention here, and see if it fixes it. If so, please star / +1 this issue, as I believe the issue is related to Google Play Services. I know this is not a fix as it renders all Google apps useless, but if we can get Google to address this, then THAT will fix the issue.
I too noticed the excessive heat, which would ALSO occur immediately after enabling Google Play Services - however HTC devices for some reason do heat up very quickly when using the camera (The One M7, M8 and M9 all have this issue, though a recent update for the M9 makes it less noticeable)

Have you had any success with getting this issue fixed? I duplicated your steps and had the same result.
I was able to fix my N9 by installing Android M. Google Play Services does not break auto rotate and my tablet works perfectly! If you are running Android 5.1.1, Google Play Services breaks auto-rotate. Google never fixed this for some reason. I suspect because they were focused on Android M. Make the change, you will be glad you did!

Second screen not working?

Has anyone experience the second screen not working all of a sudden? Mine is just dark with the main screen both on and off. I tried toggling the second screen on and off from the setting, reboot, battery pull, and wiping cache and dalvik but so far none worked.
It's not a hardware issue, I think, because when I open the camera, the second screen comes on for the camera Settings. Also, when in twrp, the second screen is also on as a part of the whole display.
EDIT: I can actually see some light bleed from the second screen with the main screen off. It's just not displaying information it should for some reason.

I just got mine, and something I did in the course of adding/changing/modding did the same - I lost my second screen when the phone was off, but when it was on I had my shortcuts. I wound up factory resetting and re-installing/re-configuring my apps... knock on wood, everything works just fine now. I think mine failed when I unfroze an app in Titanium that it marked for me.
About the only thing that I did before I lost the second screen is installing a game from the play store. I have uninstalled it, but still no luck. I most likely will factory reset and if that doesn't work, I'll flash stock rooted rom... And set my phone up yet again.

Same symptoms
I am on stock, albeit rooted. I froze a few apps, but I have also rebooted multiple times before the second screen disappeared, so I am not sure how anything I have done this far could be the cause.
Because I saw I am not alone, I started to do some digging. It looks like the app is located in /data/data/com.lge.signboard, which actually has symlinked directories. Not sure if its a clear indicator of the issue, but most of the directories are empty. Definitely odd.
I'll load up SSHd later and see if I can investigate more.
Did the factory reset and now the second screen works. I'm sincerely hoping that this is not a regular occurrence. I haven't liked a phone so much since galaxy s2.

I also had my second screen go funky. Haven't factory reset but I'm going to. It seemed to happen as I was also defrosting and refreezing some LG things, mainly services and such and not apps that you interact with per se. At right about the same time I noticed something else strange. When plugging the phone in, it takes several seconds for it to realize it whereas before it used to be instant. Also, the camera is very slow to load and change from the front to the back ones.
So I got a little bored
And fired up adb logcat to see if I could find anything. I don't yet know if it's related or not, but there is a message
Code:
I/[SystemUI]MiniStatusBar( 5541): signBoardWindowShow() requested but unavailable. Hide MiniActivity.
that shows in the log.
I to tried clearing cache and dalvik or art or whatever to try to get the second screen back no avail.
I'm having the same issue. Any update on this?
I too am interested in this, I had this issue occur too when I froze some applications (system apps) that I didn't think were necessary. Unfortunately once you freeze the component it blocks the screen and unfreezing everything back does not bring the screen back you have to factory reset it. Any ideas of what the service is that affects the second screen?
Second Screen symlink busybox
After reading all your comments on what you could have done to cause the second screen from working, it looks like the symlink is broken especially if you have updated your busy box. I too started to have the second screen go bad on me and I couldn't figure it out until I read this thread especially the log post. I am going to reset and ensure that smart install is set right in busy box.
Recently, the AT&T LG V10 (H900) just got root here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-lg-v10/general/root-lg-h900-real-tot-make-tungkick-t3336317
I then debloated the V10 on firmware H90010f with Debloater v3.90 here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/debloater-remove-carrier-bloat-t2998294
Before, I decided to have the second screen off for a while, so I disabled it in the system's menu. I then advanced towards debloating. Decided to turn on the second screen again. Notice that there were issues with it. So now I'm currently experiencing this issue: the second screen does not show date, time, weather, notifications, quick icons. Only shows quick toggles if I swiped from right to left, such as sound profile, WiFi, flashlight, and camera. I undo all of the debloating, rebooted the phone many times, still the same problem. Sigh. I'm trying to avoid doing factory reset because I'm not up to reloading everything again, especially the SMS/MMS.
So, anybody found out a better solution other than doing a reset?
Update 1: It seems like re-rooting with updating the ROM with the "upgrade" option for the AT&T LG V10 to not do a full clean install does not solve the problem. I didn't lose all my personal data, but I did not gain anything that it restored system apps to previous default settings. Sigh, it's just one step closer to just do a factory data reset.
Update 2: There appears that other things were broken from disabling/removing apps (during phone calls, cannot multitask, such as switch apps or use the notification area; SuperSU couldn't generate a log correctly), so I went ahead and did a factory reset since there was no alternative restoring method. The second screen works again and so does the said apps. Looks like I'll have to be careful which apps I'll be disabling/removing with Debloater.
Uninstalling an app restored my second screen.
I had this issue as well. Camera controls were in the second screen space, the swipe to end call would appear, but none of my other settings stayed long after restarting my phone, maybe 10 min. I uninstalled some of my most recent apps, the suspect one being "Zooper Widget Pro" and the issue stopped. No factory data reset etc. This app was a launcher-type app (I'm a geek but nowhere near the tech terms used elsewhere on this site) and I thought it might be the issue due to its ability to control the home screen. I doubt it was intended to work with this arrangement. So I would look at any launchers or apps which can control the home screen before doing a reset as this exact issue was easily solved for me.
I just got the phone and set it up. the only thing I disabled was ATT bloatware nothing else. 2nd screen is only on when main one is on. Using nova launcher. I tried uninstalling and that didn't help. Is there any more info on this, can I get it working without factory reset ? I get no indication of notification right now other than sound.
I did factory reset and that didn't help either.
I have a same problem with the second screen to. So anybody can help me!
Is there anyone can help me pls!!!
I solved this problem by checking PINs on mainboard for the second Flex Cable for LCD of LG V10, see the video, READ comments here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hpeVAqgU94s, so in my case one of three PINs was folded little, so one PIN contact didn't touch the second Flex Cable and this caused the problem...

Android UI keeps crashing!

I honestly don't know where to post this so I'm going to post it under "General" in hopes that someone far smarter than me can help (!)!...
ScreenShot:
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0Bx8wdr_asZMFZXE1dGFWSnZ2NmM
I've had the following issue for the past 30 days (at first I thought it was some glitch that caused the UI to crash when phoning-home to Cyanogenmod for updates). It SEEMS to have happened right when I first started screwing around with TitaniumBU... that may be a total coincidence, also...
The phone works just fine but will suddenly start showing things in Landscape instead of Portrait (and vise-versa). After I reboot the phone boots to a black screen with just the status bar at the top (showing the time, wifi, etc...) with absolutely NOTHING ELSE except for what appears to be a "back" arrow at the bottom of the screen (that does nothing when pressed).
WTH?! Please. Because I've tried everything (to include wiping internal and ext-SD). :crying: I have, of course, searched other forums but "Android UI Crashing" returns a ton of unrelated results...
:cyclops:I'm still having this issue so I'm gonna bump this thread... Any help is much-appreciated!:cyclops:
I'd wipe the whole internal storage (including ROM) and reinstall the ROM.
Dude - WAY ahead of ya - already did. To the extent that I accidentally soft-bricked the stupid phone!
We all know, as engineers and troubleshooters, that the first step to solving a problem is duplicating it.... and I cannot seem to consistently duplicate the problem! And the crux of it is that this started at the end of December when I was bored around the holidays and playing with my phone (making several different changes).
Obviously I'm not restoring anything from a previous backup... I've even blown away my backed-up App settings in my google account... Formatted Internal and External... Installed latest OS and GApps...
Gun to my head; if I had to guess I'd say that it has something to do with the "System Profiles" feature... I started using it to disable my Lock Screen whenever it detected my home wifi, and to return to the System Default (with the Lock Screen enabled) whenever it no longer detected my home wifi... Because I swear that the crashed-phone looks the same as the screen where you enter your PIN with the addition of the status bar at the top...
The issue has to do with System Profiles to use wifi-detection for toggling the lock screen. Not sure what it is about this that causes the issue, but that was the cause.

G5 sometimes 'skips' lock screen

I've noticed over the past 2 weeks or so that all of a sudden the phone sometimes doesn't bother with the lock screen. I'll double tap to wake and it'll go right to the home screen (or to whatever app I was in last). This happens with or without notifications. I thought it was something caused by Evolve because it seemed to stop once I cleared data/froze it with Titanium but it's started back up again.
Running Android M, rooted, with Xposed. However, I have not installed any new modules or done any system updates during this time. All of the phone settings look correct, and are unchanged, and there isn't a setting for 'skip the lockscreen like 30% of the time' anyway.
Anyone have any ideas? Could it be an app causing this? I believe those are the only things that have been updated.
Something like Greenify?
Any ideas on where to start troubleshooting would help. Thanks.
Still fighting with this. Anyone else? Removed everything I could find that wasn't being used. Wiped data for lockscreen settings. Wiped cache/dalvik. At a loss here. It's really annoying!
Only thing I can think of is that Power Key Instantly Locks is turned off.

it's on, and lock timer is set to immediately.
doesn't seem to have any relation to time. sometimes I'll pick the phone up after an hour and it'll go right in without the lock screen.

Sorry, I don't have any other ideas. Maybe someone else can be better help.
Still driving me nuts. I thought I had solved it by turning off 'battery optimizations' for anything always-on/lock screen related but that wasn't the answer. Reflashed the rom, still having the issue. Might need to reflash with a full wipe I guess.
I'd rather just move to Nougat but I can't get xposed to work properly. Life is hard haha.
in case anyone finds this thread when dealing with the same issue: Android Wear was the culprit. wakelock detector pointed me in that direction and once i uninstalled it, the problem stopped immediately and has not returned.
