Hey folks, question. Now it's driving me nuts how the notification and ringer volumes are connected now in ICS where as before we had the option to unlink them. I get emails all through the night but I can't turn my notifications down at night because it turns down the ringer, can't have that.
Anyone know of a way to break the link or am I just going to have to deal with it?
This seems to be a common issue with the ICS leaks. Unfortunately, I don't think any of the ROM developers have split them yet.
Very interesting.... I'll dig into it and see if we can't come up with a solution...

I've tried 4 different apps to solve this prob and none work right. I use sound manager to turn off notifications at night but leave ringer on, but i can't get it working with those apps.
Hopefully its an easy fix to unpair them.

Sounds good!!! Please keep us posted if you do find something, it's really driving me nuts. I don't know who's bright idea it was to remove the option to split them, dumbest thing I've seen in a while.
I just turn off the 3g/wifi before I go to bed. No emails come in, but texts and calls will still come in. Been doing that ever since I moved to Android.

I've been using Audio Manager app to control my volumes, you can set schedules when volume levels are to be changed, I never had to do anything manually. I have enough stuff going on everyday don't need another thing to remember to do before passing out, lol. Good idea though, if it gets too bad I may have to give that a go.
Bought ICS Enhanced Ringer control from the market - $2.99.
It duz separate the ringer/notification link however it must be manually enabled/disabled.
I'm hoping the dev adds a scheduler, or a widget to make it easier to enable.
Either way, it works and solves the problem.
Hi there,
I just want to share that for ICS there is a tool on the market which can disable notifications at night, while still the ringer is "enabled", not muted.
Problem with ICS is that notification volume is directly linked to ringer volume. When you manually disable notifications, you will never hear your phone ring....which can be bad.
So:
In case I don't want to hear notifications at night, but incoming calls will ring as normal I use the following tool (free from market) :
"ICS notification silencer free"
With the free edition you can only define 'one' profile, with a start and end time when to disable notifications (example:sleeping time).
With the paid version you can define more profiles, depending on day etc.
I liked the free edition already as it has enough features just to disable notification when I am asleep.
Hope you enjoy this tool, and sleep well on ICS
Br.
Michel
Another solution
Ive been dealing with this since ICS first came out, and its been driving me nuts.
I need no text notifications at night, but the phone needs to ring if someone calls.
I tried ICS ringtone control and ICS Silencer. ICS ringtone didnt have a scheduler so I had to set it manually every night.
For the last week Ive tried Profile Scheduler and its worked perfectly. I assume other profile apps would work too, so
check them out.
Heres what I did. Create/download a silent ringtone mp3 - I named mine "Silence - 30sec". I then went under the
"Night" profile and made the notification sound that ringtone, and left all the volumes the way they are. I then created
a rule activating that profile from 10p-7a. I then changed 'conditions not met' to the normal profile, to change it back to
normal when its done. Under the normal profile, I made my ringtone my original one.
Good luck, and until ICS unlinks the sliders, this has worked best for me.

I have flashed 5 different ROMs, and the only one (HTC Evo4G LTE) that separates them is CM10.
I ran it for a bit, but switched back to ViperRom, and use Phone Schedule app to simply change the ringtone
for my notification sounds, at whatever time I need.
I have a silent ringtone, and use it for notification sounds between 9p and 7a, and then it automatically
switches back to a audible music ringtone.
Hope this helps.

I think the linking of the two was a step backwards for 4.0. Hopefully this will be undone in future versions

I think they did it so when you turned the ringer volume up or down, the notification volume would go up our down accordingly, which is desirable behavior. But it is annoying if you need them to be controlled separately.

So on my Prime. im running 4.1.1 CM10 nightly builds. I have some issues and im not sure if these problems were not fixed yet, or they were fixed, but because i just flash it with out clearing my data.
My microphone on my Prime doesn't work that well. The circle indicating a sound or voice keeps showing its picking up sound when its silent in my room. And Google Now and Voice typing doesn't work that great due to this.
When i take a picture using the camera(I use the stock camera app), i take a picture, and there is a massive lag that freezes up my tablet for 2 seconds, then takes the picture. Sometimes it will say "Gallery is not responding." When I go into the gallery to view, the picture is one big grey block. Also the sound when i record video, i replay it and its all static and weird noises.
The tablet is fast, but i dont think its fast enough compared to jelly bean on a nexus 7 or Galaxy nexus. There's a lot of lag and delay. Like some apps i tap on, there is a glow saying that it is opening, and nothing happens until 3 seconds later it opens up. Youtube ALWAYS takes 3 to 5 seconds to even open up. Animations opening, closing is pretty choppy. Feels like ICS lag when you open an app or transition into an app.
Also another problem, I pretty sure its the tablet itself, when i play any song, video, sound related, the sound quality is kind of static when the volume is loud. I press down on the speakers, and it helps reduces it. Pretty sure its the sound and the metal aluminium is vibrating and making a weird noise when sound is playing.
This video compared to a Nexus 7 and a Prime. It doesn't look like this on my Prime that much.

Should I just reflash my Prime and save my data on Titanium backup and restore? Or are you always having these problems like me on the CM10 nightly.

Well, the current official CM10 nightlies still use the ICS kernel & ICS drivers... which is why some things don't work properly... but I have built a version of CM10 with the new JB kernel & drivers (thanks to CyanogenMod & AndroidRoot) which fixes these issues... just make sure you upgrade to the JB bootloader before flashing this...

Has anyone else been having problems with the stock alarm clock on the Galaxy S4? Mine seems to be unreliable. Goes off one morning, but not the next. But is random when it works and doesn't.
Current settings:
Android: 4.2.2
Carrier: Verizon
Time: 7am
Days: MTWTF
Repeat Weekly: Checked
Alarm type: Vibration and Melody
Alarm tone: Journey
Sound: Maxed
Location alarm: off
Snooze: off
Smart alarm: off
In "menu" outside that section I have "voice control" off.
Not rooted, no other ROM. Just default, stock Verizon Galaxy S4.
Before I go to bed I double check to make sure my alarm is on and sound is at the max (not in vibration or silent mode). Power saving mode is "off". I have no task killers. I do close all my apps using the default android task manager. But then I turn the alarm clock back on because I'm paranoid. But none of this seems to help.
I've tried factory reset, that didn't seem to help as it still sometimes goes off and sometimes doesn't. I have not tried any other alarms than the stock one. I will be trying one (any suggestions?) and updating this to let you know if it worked. But until then, it would be cool to see if I'm not the only one having this issue and to see if anyone else has solved this!
Thanks!

I use the alarm every day as well, and have not had a problem with it not going off. Are you using one of the stock alarm tones, or a custom song/sound? I have used both without issues, but if you're using something other than a stock tone, maybe try one of those to see if it's an issue with your audio file.
Edit: I see that it's called "Journey" so that may be a stock tone. I guess I'm not sure then

Correct, the alarm tone I'm using is a stock tone. It's woken me up before, so I don't think I'm sleeping through it haha. My only guess is my phone is somehow going into a low power state that's not updating the time every minute, therefore the alarm time is sometimes getting skipped and therefore not getting triggered. I just don't know what would be causing this as I have "power saving mode" off and I haven't ran into any other settings that would do this... I do plug my phone in overnight too, so you'd think it would be going full force anyway. But I just recently switched from iOS so I'm still a bit new to the android side of things .

Have you tried running some daytime tests to see if it rings on time? The clock on the lockscreen may only update when the screen is on, but the phone always knows what time it is. If you can get it to skip alarms reliably, maybe take it to a Verizon store and have them swap it out. I've used my cell phone as an alarm for quite a few years (I have a backup as well, but only because I'm pretty good at shutting alarms off in my sleep) and the only times I had trouble was with older phones when I was rooted and running a less-than-stable custom roms.

I did run various tests throughout the day yesterday, have a few set for today too. All went off fine so far. The stock alarm woke me up this morning too. Maybe I just had to break it in haha. I'm worried it will skip again, though, so I'm using my desktop as a backup alarm clock, lol. If it does skip I will more than likely take it to Verizon, as this doesn't seem normal. Haven't tried any non-stock alarm clock apps yet. Guess I should look for a good backup app just in case eh.
No problems here. Use everyday on Stock ROM

I ended up switching to an app called "Timely". I have had zero issues with myself ever not hearing this app or it not going off. Even if the phone is on vibrate or silent.

yes it's really unreliable not only in your 4.2 s4. it often doesnt go off on my s3 mini too. just download another one.
I was just gonna say I've never had a problem with the stock alarm...and what do you know, this morning it didn't go off. I always wake up no matter how loud or quiet the alarm is so I'm fairly certain I didn't sleep through it.

I just switched to ARHD 31.0 from CM 10.2 (had terrible battery life, but I loved the light vibration notification) and I forgot how intense the vibration is on the Sense ROMs. I turn my phone on vibrate only at work to be respectful of others, but honestly this phone's vibration is just as loud as having a ringtone. It's way too much. Does anyone know of a way to reduce the vibration intensity? I've looked all over the forums and haven't found much info other than taking apart the phone....
I know that you can adjust the length and pattern of the vibration, but I really need a way to turn this down significantly. Thanks.
This isn't quite what you asked for, but is my solution to the same problem.
It seems like most of the volume associated with the vibrate function is due to being placed directly on a hard surface that will transmit and intensify the noise. If you place something that doesn't transmit the vibrations well it drastically reduces the volume while still letting you hear the phone when at your desk. I use a small carpet sample (about 8"x6") as a coaster on my desk and when I put my phone down I place it on that as well. It really cuts down on the noise, but not enough that you won't notice it when at your desk. If the carpet is in use, I just place my phone on a pad of post-its or a note pad, which doesn't work quite as well, but close enough for my situation.

***Easier method***
If you want to get rid of vibration completely, but without putting your phone on silent, just use App Ops! You need something to launch the activity, there are App-ops launchers in Play Store or you could just use a Tasker task. Once you're in, just go through all your apps and untick the "Vibration" permission!
No root required!!!

Powerful friends. You are my idol. If you have time, can you help port MIUI on stock? Hah. I will try this colorful ROM ASAP.
works great and multilenguage on spanish works fine some apps in jap
Most functions are ready and stable.
Except that bugs in CM4.2.2, such as the loudly call volume, as it is in MIUIV5 on CM4.2.2.
Is that possible port color OS based on CM10(4.1.2). As I known, current I717 only has CM10 for stable usage although
it has random reboot.
One more, can the soft virtual key can be truned off? As I717 already has real touch key and the virtual key occupies
the screen and no much usage.
I don't see color OS has more apps and functions than MIUI, but it occupies 400M, why?
As I see, it is another style ROM, but not powerful as MIUI it is.
I check that the color OS is already in V2.0.0 (published on 2014.4.4), but current for I717 is V1.0.0.
I had a bit of trouble getting through the "welcome" screen due to the language but after using it for a day the rom feels pretty stable. I have had one problem though. I'm unable to listen to my headphones through the 3.5mm jack. I get a bit of static feedback through the headphones when I plug them in but the music doesn't play through them. Tried the stock music app and Play Music and no luck. Has anyone else had this problem? Also an option to hide the visual buttons at the bottom would be nice since they take up screen space. Themes work pretty well and look great also.
Overall, I like the animations and my phone runs pretty smooth. Just those little things I noticed.

I didn't check the headphone on 3.5mm jack. Just have a fresh try on this ROM and then switch back to MIUIV5 quickly.
Did you notice the call volume issue? The volume is loudly and you need to press speaker for once back then it back to normal. But it will reproduce again in next call.

Yes I was able to test it out and the first time I called it was pretty loud. I turned the call volume down during the dial tone and the recipient didn't hear an echo anymore through the ear speaker. I hung up and called back. They always hear an echo on the speakerphone but not on the in-ear speaker. I rebooted my phone and tried again and they didn't hear an echo. As long as my call volume is 50% or below they don't hear their voice echoing. I only called one person though so it could be different for another. This was after about 20 minutes of testing.
Rooted by installing flashable supersu binary update. Worked. Installed an incompatible xposed module and it crashed launcher. Love the music place and photo place on launcher screens.(launcher in general was sweet) Would like to get rid of nav bar and receive english interface for color os specific settings. (Example: accounts ask for phone #, name etc in english but agreements and descriptions are in another language making them useless if not deceiving.
Edit: Capacitive keys stayed on as well.

Played around with this again. Showed it off to some co-workers. Didn't kill it with xposed this time. Lol. The following sign in tip helped immensely.
"After the Google sign in screen, ignore the green and blue buttons and press the smaller white characters below. Then uncheck the box on the next screen and hit the big green button."
Just the fore mentioned issues with the earphone plug not issuing sound (sound continues to output through and speaker) and lit capacitive keys bother me.
