Anyone know which wireless tether app works with the temp root? I've tried a few and a no go.
I've seen claims of barnacle working, but have yet to try it myself.

Barnacle works perfect. Thank you, and I hit your Ty button.
It can't stay connected though, since root is temp, correct?

I have Barnacle wifi tether running on my 3D with temp root. Works great, but yes it is temporary for now.
If the wireless part isn't necessary, pdanet works just fine without root.

I can temp root with no problems using my MacBook Pro and Fre3vo but no wireless tethering joy for me. Wireless Tether doesn't work at all. Barnacle gives no errors with the ad hoc connection, everything looks fine, even Snow Leopard's network diagnostics say that my internet is working fine, but no data is transmitted or received. I even tried all the tips/tricks in this thread, still no joy. Any suggestions?
PdaNet works ok with USB but is very unstable with Bluetooth.
BTW I had no problems at all with the EVO 4G either in ad hoc mode (early versions of Wireless Tether) or non ad hoc (whatever that's called, recent versions of WT).
I've tried most of the methods out there and the one in this thread has the highest success rate IMO. One important thing: check your apps and if you have "Super User" installed as an app, uninstall it first before trying the method in that thread.
Barnacle works perfectly for me under that setup.
Mike
I have the same issue. I also have a mac so it might be a mac issue. I get tether to work on my wifes shift so I know my computer works.

Thanks, the version of wireless tether mentioned in the linked post worked for me and I'm posting using it! I had tried every other version of WT on the google site, and every version of Barnacle I could find, none worked.
BTW I didn't have any error messages or have to change any settings as that page suggests, it just worked the first time.
This is the only version of WT that starts without errors for me, and I have to us WT as it can set up the softap network (Asus Transformer doesn't see ad-hoc). It sees it and connects, but can never get an IP Address.
Anyone else experience a similar issue?
How I got it running......
1. Get temp root by one of the methods in the forum
2. Download the wifi tether apk from the root/FAQ thread.
3. In the settings change profile to htc evo 4g
4. In settings apply check to box to fix HTC routing.
Wifi tether should restart and you should be in business.

Just got it working on My Coworkers 3vo. download wifi tether 3.2 from the web, then go into settings and there is a setting in the menu that says enable for htc devices, once I did that it worked like a charm.

You mean this version, 3.1 beta 2? I've tried all the versions out there and some work perfectly some of the time, some never work, but none work all of the time. Can't figure out what changes, it's so random. I'm using the 3.1 beta 2 version to write this, but yesterday it didn't work and tomorrow I predict it won't work. BTW every time I start this version I get an error/warning message that some necessary thingamajigs aren't there, but I dismiss the message and it works anyway.
And of course I know I have to re-root after every restart etc.
works sporactically
Both Barnacle Wifi Tether and Andriod Wifi Tether work sporadically for me. It worked a few days ago and now it doesn't work.
is 4g tether working? I could not get it to work using barnacle
Barnacle works perfect for me with 4G...I haven't had one problem with it...
Supposedly, a beta version of "Wireless Tether for Root Users" worked so long as you checked a box in the settings that was specific to HTC devices. I forget where there.
I've only had success with using my phone as a wifi hotspot with the Miks Rom, every other rom that I use, I've tried Barnacle, Wireless Thether for Root users and just about every other app available on the market but nothing works.
Which rom are you guys using and what wifi hotspot app works? Thanks!

Good deal! Forgot to mention that usually you need to check off 'routing fix' and 'mms clamping' in the settings of the wireless tether app. Not sure if you already got that or not, but if you run into any issues, keep that in mind.
For me those apk's only work on 4G, never on 3G. Any idea what am I doing wrong?
(Yes I've tried checking and unchecking the Routing Fix and MMS Clamping (whatever that is) 100 times. And I've tried using "automatic" device selection vs. selecting the EVO 3D. And tried using DNS servers other than the default ones. Always the same result, no tethering with 3G.)

I just got home from NYC and on the bus I was tethering via 3G the whole time.
The routing fix: on
MSS Clamping: on
Device profile: HTC Evo 3D
WiFi Tether version 3.1 b5
I even had WPA2 encryption on so others couldn't steal my bw...
Worked fine the whole ride, even when it would drop to 1x due to coverage areas.
Hmmm... didn't work for me, I'm using the same version of WiFi Tether, I've tried that group of settings many times and tried them again just now. Same issue: 4G joy, 3G no joy.
Soooo... I gave WiFi Tether some tough love... While I've uninstalled and re-installed it many times with no joy, this time I cleared data (via Menu / Settings / Applications / Manage applications / WiFi Tether / Clear data) BEFORE uninstalling WiFi Tether. Then after re-installing, now it's working on 3G or 4G... I can switch 4G on and off multiple times and it all works. I'm not terribly optimistic that it will continue to work on 3G, but at least I know one way that it DID work and hopefully I could get it to work again if it fails... thanks for the help.
Any clue as to a bluetooth tether?
I understand that WiFi is faster but Bluetooth is cheaper on battery life.
I've been trying to get my Epic 4G Touch running the wifi tether app 3.1-beta6 (only version I am aware works for my phone) but the View can't see the wifi connection. Perhaps something to do with the way wifi tether is running? Ad-Hoc mode? Anybody know of a work around?
I am running Wifi Tether v3.1 beta 2 on my Droid Charge with no issues. I currently have mine set to the Samsung Fascinate for the device. You could maybe try changing the device to see if that does anything. I know I was having issues connecting one day and I just had to uninstall and reinstall the app and it started working fine again.
Which type of wifi connection your phone presents is device dependent. Some can do infrastructure which will work, others can only do ad-hoc , which the Flyer and most android devices will not see without a modified wifi supplicant file. If your phone tether cannot be seen on your Flyer you need to install the wifi supplicant mentioned in other answers in the forum, do a search for supplicant . That is the only way to fix this, and you must be rooted.
I use Wireless Tether app on my rooted Droid X and the view sees it just fine. Connects without any issues.

I'm quoting DigitalMD because it appears this information may need to be repeated. I'm fairly certain that most Samsung devices are limited to ad-hoc only and that makes all the difference.
I'm downloading the wifi ad hoc enabler now to try this out...
I have a rooted Nexus S 4g on ICS- and wifitether works fine for my ipad2... but the HTC View doesn't even see the signal. Is this a carrier issue with the View, an HTC specific thing? I'm surprised the iPad had no issue as I've had plenty of public wifi connection issues...
Just trying to understanding the issues at play better here.

So I installed the latest 3.1-beta 11 to my Nexus S4g to try this before I go to other lengths to get the view to see it... but I don't see a MSS clamping options- only routing fix. I'm also trying device profile set to Evo 4g since that's what you had... still nothing...
Does it have anything to do with being on ICS on my Nexus? If you're doing adhoc from your evo (assuming...) why would the view not see ad hoc in my case?

Right, but to do that, i need the View to be rooted correct? The point i was trying to make was it seemed like some people got this to work without needing to do that...unless i misunderstood...
EDIT: The following worked for me- Fox Fi on the phone, "PDA NET for Tablet" application for the View. activate both... No settings to be changed, nothing needs root permission.

Our records indicate there may already be an account for this device or that the incorrect network provider was selected in the Connection Manager.
You will need to select the correct network provider from the list of available networks in the Connection Manager.
The Connection Manager is currently looking for any new network providers that may have been recently added. Please wait at least 3 minutes for this update to take place prior to performing the steps outlined below.

Select Search Networks to search for available networks.
Select the network to which you are subscribed.
Select Connect to connect to your subscribed network.

What on earth?
On your Sprint Evo 3D, you're trying to use
- Clear WiMax 4G (not Sprint's)
- on the Boost Mobile network
- with a Comcast modem
- to play video games
This makes absolutely no sense -- slow down, son! What exactly are you trying to do here?
If you mean you just want to get your 4G hotspot working (regardless of provider), you obviously shouldn't use the built in Sprint hotspot (even the hacked one). You're going to have to screw around with Wifi Tether for Root (google it) or Barnacle, potentially in ad-hoc mode. Some tools (including the official hotspot tool) and some tethering modes pretty much tell the WiMax tower to assign a new IP to the broadcast, effectively giving your computer or laptop a distinct IP from the phone. This is why they don't work, and it's also how the company finds out. Clear probably sees this secondary IP request produced by the tethering app, notes that it isn't the IP configuration you set up with them (or paid for), and blocks your service.
Your solution? Get the phone working again, then use a different form of tethering or a different mode. Ad-hoc mode (Barnacle) and wired tether (PDANet) are practically guaranteed to work, unless Clear has a way of sniffing packets for routing protocols.

just use barnicle tether or wifi tether
they work fine with phones running on clear.
I know thats not a seamless integration but you can try custom roms as well....
I usually just use wifi tether it seems to be better for "boosted" phones

The Sprint WiFi tether does not work with 4G (clear). You'll need to use WiFi tether or the others. Wi-Fi tether works great and it's free. Check the boxes that say MSS clamping and routing fix (something like that).

Well, I got this working with the LTE and Transformer Prime tablet.
Download FoxFi app from here to your phone. It is not available in the Sprint Play Store (Sprint blocks it).
http://foxfi.com/bin/
Bluetooth tethering does not work, at least I couldn't get it working. However, wifi tethering to this HTC phone DOES work, even though the Play Store description indicates it doesn't,,
"Turns your Android phone into free WiFi Hotspot - no rooting or tether plan required. Just install and turn it on. Bluetooth mode works for all phones. WiFi mode currently works on most Samsung/Motorola/LG phones. WiFi mode does NOT work on Motorola Droid 1, Motorola Triumph, Samsung Admire, LG Revolution or any HTC phones, use Bluetooth mode instead."
After install, just launch the app, click "Activate Wifi Hotspot". Then, I connect from tablet to "AndroidAP", and I'm done.
A couple things. The FoxFi "Network Name" does not seem to matter. Mine defaulted to Android92 but the Transformer Prime still sees it as AndroidAP (no matter what I change it to on the phone). Also, the WPA2 security does not seem to work. If I enable it, the Transformer Prime never prompts for password entry, it just connects.
Try it out on your tablets, or laptops and let me know your results. Nothing is required to be installed on my tablet.
It works for me as well, however like you it doesn't matter what I rename the network, it still shows as AndroidAP on my WiFi device.
Also, even though I put in a WPA2 password, it still shows up as an open network with no password required to connect. So, this may not be great for airport use (which is mostly what I use it for) because everyone can just connect to your network with no password required.
I'm on my 3D waiting for my LTE and its the complete opposite. Bluetooth does and WiFi doesn't.
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
I'd actually prefer the Bluetooth tethering to work. I'll play around with that some more tonight. I seem to get this Error Code 67 issue, which a Google Search indicates might be show stopper.
Also, I emailed the developer about this issues. See if that yields any response.
I agree about the open network issue. However, it would be fine for use in a car while driving and wanting to use a tablet instead of the phone.
Wifi Tether that worked on the OG Evo with Sense works fine on the Evo LTE. I downloaded it from the Play Store and chose Generic ICS as the setup. WPA/WPA2 encryption works and had no issues connecting to it and using it via wifi. I have not tested the BT connection.

Pardon my ignorance on this...do you guys have LTE out in Orlando?
Nevermind...I see you meant your EVO LTE.
I just took the Wifi Tether for Rooted users app from my EVO 3D and it worked fine.
What is in Play Store is NOT the same. You have to go to his web site to get the latest (which I think is still beta).
I knew the one on my EVO 3D worked on ICS.
I was running MeanROM ICS 1.4 and just grabbed it out of system/app or data/app from the .ZIP file for the ROM.
Set Profile to Generic ICS, Router Fix on, Clamping Fix on.
Oh what the heck, I uploaded it. This wifi tether app works on EVO LTE.
Just install it like a normal app by double clicking on it from a file browser on the phone.
If IE9 rename it to .ZIP rename it back to .apk.

Foxfi works for me as well though I have the same security issues. So does this mean that htc has removed the "hotspot lock" from the lte? I tried the same foxfi app on a htc evo 4g and it gives the hotspot lock error.

Sorry I didn't notice no root.
Also I can't understand why you wouldn't root.
It is the most simplest process and completely reversible.
I might even keep this root even if s-off is achieved.

If you run the RUU, it's exactly like it was shipped.
If you don't run ruu, yes they can tell. If you do run ruu, they cannot tell.
It's pretty safe as far as warranty goes, unless you do something dumb, like bring it in rooted.
By the way sprint replaced my 3d under warranty with it s-off and saying virgin mobil. But I admit I was lucky.

You can use Wireless tether if you download FoxFi directly from their website: foxfi.com/bin ... you can't use the one from Google Play. The one on Google Play won't work on HTC phones. I haven't tried BT tether, but WiFi tether works well on an unrooted phone -- except you can't seem to secure the connection. You can input an SSID Network name and a password into the app, but it shows up as unsecured and with the default name of AndroidAP. Must be something to do with the workaround they had to do to get past the lock HTC put on the phones.
