No love for Washington state, just rain...

I was so excited when my Note showed that little 4g icon at the top. And when I noticed it was getting better speeds than my Wifi, I assumed I was somehow getting LTE.
Then I saw some of the speedtest.net results from the true LTE users and realized I was somewhere between Edge and 4g.
Since the Tmobile fix, I've gone back to my unlimited SIM, but I am no longer satisfied with the <1Mbps speed that Tmobile offers in this area. At least with fauxgee through At&t I was getting ~4Mbps.
When I read this release earlier, I just got even more depressed. I don't think AT&T has any intention of bringing LTE to my area even by 2013.
Why should I, at 5x slower speeds, be paying the same as my counterparts in big cities?.
I guess this decision isn't going to be as easy as I had hoped.

I can't believe that out of all the cities included that att isn't giving philadelphia LTE. It's more than just personal gripe, but philadelphia is 1 of the most major cities in the country and were still running on 3G. The speeds are pretty good to be honest, but there's still no excuse

Need more in California

New Orleans, La has LTE near downtown

No SE Michigan but its going to Cleveland of all places. SMH

Still nothing for Buffalo, NY? That's very depressing.

no for Philadelphia ?

I'm excited about the LTE as I live in St. Louis, but its not a hug deal as I don't really find HSPA lacking.

Just to commiserate with the others from Philly...we continue to be left out in the cold.

I was talking to a tech blogger who moved from California to DFW and she was commenting on how much easier it is to do business outside of Cali. She said it is so difficult to put towers up if you need them and to get permits to adjust the networks etc. She mentioned in Texas it is much more business friendly which is why we have good networks. I noticed that even when Sprint launches their Lte network in a few Texas cities once it comes online.
Not sure if the ATT LTE rollout is affect by this but I suspect it is. The business climate where you live will unfortunately probably affect your LTE availability.

Minneapolis / St. Paul should be a top priority. Verizon launched there the first day they had LTE. ATT needs to compete.

Maybe i was getting LTE from NY coz i was very close to Manhattan. i work at cedar knolls NJ and been getting better HSPA+ speed lately about 6mbps which i used to get 3mbps before. so i can't wait for them to get LTE in Morris county.

Hey I live in south jersey, Atlantic county. I'm in Morris county no lte here but it says it is on the coverage map so not sure what's up. The map just started showing it this past week or so, I check all the time so I'm hoping that it just hasn't been turned on yet but will be shortly. Only 10 miles or so down rt 24 it's all over the place.
I also live in Essex county!!!! Small world. Idk what service you guys are on but Verizon and most others like sprint have their major towers in seacaus(idk if I spelled it right). Its the spot designated for radio broadcasting and its reaches most metropolitan areas NYC, jersey city, union city, hoboken, etc. Our stations like my 9 and others are broadcasted from there. If you ever take rt 46 east and go by meadowlands stadium you can see the red lights from over 20 tall tower. The meadowlands is all barren flat land.
A little off topic but since this is a nj post... What's going on with the Xanadu? Its the big thing by the stadium?

Data speeds - thinking of switching from AT&T

Is there anyone who lives in upstate NY that can share how there data speeds are? I bought a One X on AT&T and am seriously thinking of switching to Sprint. We can't even root our phones let alone unlock the bootloader. I'm just worried about Sprint's data speeds. All the tech sites trash it. Thanks.
Depends where you live. Were I live Sprint is the fastest of the big carrier's. I average 2.2mbps. Att here is just awful with limited signal.
Also isn't ny on the first round of updates so that would mean they should have good speends by the end of the year.

It's been a while since I've lived in upstate new york. Why not go to one of the sprint stores or best buys and ask to run speedtest on their phones.
I could see them using airaves in the stores. I have no idea if they do or not but i wouldn't be surprised.

This! They do! Sprint is slow, very very slow. Here in Colorado it is abysmal.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA
Pretty hit or miss, it can be pretty decent or downright horrible. At work I get around 1.3mbps or near 2, but at home and a lot of other places it's painfully slow. I just ran the speedtest app and I averaged ~120kbps down, 200kbps up and 250 ping...
I think it's safe to say that you will get MUCH worse data speeds than what you're currently getting. Your signal strength should be on par though, and you won't have as many drop calls.
Besides what the fanboys here tell you, it's pretty generally accepted that sprint's data speeds are absolutely horrendous. I've never been to NY so I can't say this with 100% accuracy but it is a pretty darn safe assumption.
I'm in Houston which is one of sprints biggest markets and even here just about everywhere I go the speeds are terrible. Not as bad as some people who get like .1kbs and .2 but they are still waaay below 1mps.
There have been small pockets where I get 1-2mbps but those are soo inconsistent that it's not even practical

Where do you live, Rochester? Speeds in Buffalo vary, that's the best I can tell you. My EVO 3D got significantly better speeds than my EVO LTE does. I'm just hoping that will change after an update or two. Rochester and Syracuse got WiMax pretty quickly though so I would imagine LTE isn't too far away.

On a side note, I always found it funny how when I say I'm from NY people always assume I live in or near NYC. That's like saying everyone in Texas lives in or around Dallas.

I also live in the boro, but get under 200 kbps. You guys are definitely lucky to get over 1 mb. The bad thing is when I go inside anywhere, the signal drops to 0 bars, and I get nada. Same goes for my wife's Evo 3D. I have not seen LTE at all in M'boro, or during my commute to work in Nashville at Grassmere park (behind the zoo). I am anxiously trying to patiently wait for LTE. I actually have an airave, and it works great. The problem is when I am in any building such as BestBuy or Wal-mart, and want to price match something. Or I am in a shoe store and want to find out if Amazon has it for cheaper. Just yesterday I was at Kohl's, and they told me that they had a coupon online. I of course could not get data on mine or my wife's phone, so I could not pull up the coupon. I cannot even begin to tell you how badly I want LTE. I just hope the indoor signal is better.

Some hope with Sprint's network vision

I just wanted to share some good news with the Sprint users here. Sprint recently launched LTE in the Chicago area and for a while I haven't seen any major improvements near me (south of Chi-town). For those in this area, I did a speed test in Lockport earlier tonight and pulled down 2-3Mbps. Normally, I might get 100-200 Kbps. I know many people have been suffering with far less than that, but wanted to let people know it's getting better!

No doubt Sprint is concentrating on the population centers that they think will bring in the most revenue, just like my next upgrade will depend on which carrier can supply competitive 4G coverage in my area.

No our phones use 802.11e instead of the LTE protocols while some say a update could allow us to use it no one has really backed it up.
While 802.11e was the first revision of wimax and the next would have been better than LTE but to many others adopted LTE. YOu will need your upgrade to get a LTE device.
My upgrade is on the first of jan so I will be getting a nexus LTE device but won't see LTE here for a few years.
Seriously. Why would I use any newer phone if I have to drop back to 3G? I've been lucky and had unlimited WiMax since original EVO. Getting my girl a used Sensation off Craigslist and going to hook her up with Straight Talk. If the speeds are good maybe I'll go that route for a while. GSM Nexus off contract is probably the way I'll go next time.

I'm in Easton...and have the $30 prepaid plan.
Would this pick up LTE?
allentown
im in allentown also. tmo has refarmed a few towers in bethlehem as i started noticing 3g speeds on my iphone. there was a website you could follow the refarming. not sure if it is still being updated
www.airportal.de
i am updating to htc one this week and am pretty pumped to see this thread and hope lte will be here soon. but i did call tmo recently and they said there was no lte here in the valley. i came across a htc one x+ but I sold it because i was mostly receiving edge speeds due to the fact that it was an unlocked att device.

It's already in Philly. I get it in the northeast and north Philly areas. Yo to 30mps down and 12mps up
I am getting T-Mobile today. I am in the Collegeville area (between Reading and King of Prussia) so I'll let you know what I get.
In Reading I was able to pickup 3G on my AT&T version so it's being refarmed. In philly i was able to pickup LTE, but I'm in 29palms now so nothing but edge here.
Granted I'm using the AT&T version unlocked and on the $30 prepaid.
I get 4G LTE from T-Mobile in the 19426 and 19406 area codes. That is Collegeville/Trappe and King of Prussia.
Just picked up some very weak LTE in Allentown near MLK blvd. Got about 7 Mbs down and 10 Mbs up on a quick speedtest.

Here's the screenshot.
It seems to be on down near the Casino in South Side bethlehem now. It was on all night down there, but I only get 1 bar if I am lucky at my house several miles away. When I am on South Side for a few drinks, the speeds are around 35 down, 15 up.
Hopefully the fire up all the towers in the area soon!

Wow. nice speeds over in Bethlehem! It has been on continuously here in Allentown for a good part of the week. Speeds vary greatly as does signal strength. It's just a matter of time before they do a full rollout. :good:
Just got lte in the morrisville area. even parts of jersey.

i received LTE in Elk Grove,CA, so t-mobile has been quietly expanding the LTE network:good:
Any news
In regards to lte in the Lehigh valley since the announcement from tmobile where they fired up all these other markets...idk wether to stay w tmobile or make the switch to AT&T or Verizon cuz I'm tired of having the slowest network at work (best buy)....
