Internal storage mounted as external sdcard unknown mounting point - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello community I just got my hands in the new s2 on Saturday, after flashing some roms from the development forums I realized that touchwiz was not my thing so I decided to install cyanogen after that my internal storage is mounted as external sdcard and my sdcard is nowhere found (it is not being mounted in the externals directory).
I will appreciate your help
Note: I have an ext4 partition in my Sd.. Since I used to have that card in my old nexus one.

Look under /mnt/emmc

Thanks man.. Why is this happening?? Is it because of my ext4 partition on my sd-card??

It's because you failed at reading the very first post in the CM7 Q&A thread.

Q: I cannot find my media files that are on my external sd card
A: Look under /mnt/emmc as that is where CM7 mounts the external sd card as opposed to /mnt/sdcard/external_sd that Samsung ROMs use.

[Q] Sdcard entire formatted in ext2 / 3 or 4

Sorry if a question is repeated, but found nothing that was clear about this, how I wish. I would use hardlinks or softlinks in my sdcard, but the vfat does not support this, as I am linux user, I want to format my sd for a standard ext2 / 3 or 4 that the best fit, you can format the entire card for this format ? Because I found many people talking about the need for a vfat partition, but it is really necessary or changing the fstab I can use a card purely ext2/3/4??
thanks
Did it work? Because I am also a linux user and also want to get rid of vfat on sdcard. Stupid vfat does not allow my to even sync with dropbox since I have filenames which would blow the brains of microsoft out
Yes, according to a thread in nexus s, you can do it. The writing speed is faster that vfat too.

Actually that thread looks at internal sd card. I do not care much about that but would like to have external sd as ext2. I tried to plug it in but the system that that it is not recognized and asked for formatting.

my problem is that I have an exf2-formated sdcard which android spits out saying that it can eat it only in vfat way. And I can not use vfat because I have filesnames with : and ? and so on. gparted is not going to solve my problem

You said your system asked you to format, so I recommended gparted.
And I Don't understand >>> And now what is android can "eat"it in vfat?

[Q] Mounting internal sdcard folder as usb mass storage

Is there any way I can mount a folder from the internal sdcard as USB mass storage?
( I am aware that I can mount an external sd but I don't happen to have one.)

Once I connect my phone it shows internal and external as two drives. You just can't mount e.g. the system folders if I am right.

No.
And here is why:
On the newer phones there is no seperate phone memory and internal SD, its just one big memory. The good thing about ir is, that you can install a lot more apps, because the whole memory is usable for the phone. The bad side is, that you can only access it through MTP.
In order to make it available as USB mass storage it needs to be unmounted, but this is not possible, because it is used by the phone. If you do it, the phone will crash. Its just like pulling a memory chip out of a running PC.
A filesystem can be mounted on different locations. If more than one location has write access, it will cause irreparable damage though.
The main problem here is that that the device uses the ext4 filesystem which Windows cannot process.
As a fix (sort of) you can
- swap internal and external storage.
- use a Smb over Wifi app and mount the share in Windows
- use a pseudo-filesysem such as sshfs from your computer

I dont think so and disagree with you... galaxy s i9000 and galaxy s2 i9100 also same. But they can mount internal and external as UMS or MTP.
Maybe the different in filesystem is the main cause.

On the S3, the whole internal memory is one big chunk (called /data). How would you go about mounting that as UMP when android is running? Android is using /data, therefore you can't unmount it and remount is as UMS.
If I'm wrong (which I may very well be), then post valid proof.

HI there, by chance are you able to recover from the "internal memory" after a factory reset, on a galaxy s3.
I am not sure what the consensus was-
-i recently thought google had all my photos backed up and did a factory reset, and lost everything.
Am hoping if I keep the phone that I can find a way to recover the photos.
Thank you.

I just wanted to say thanks for posting that second link. I've been looking everywhere for a way to export the raw mount to recover files from internal /sdcard.
Oh and in response to the first thread, I believe the reason they were getting that error (the thread is locked unfortunately) is because they used -1 (the number one) rather than -l (the letter L). I made this mistake too.
Edit: Probably should have used the 'thanks' button, sorry. Can't delete post.
If you have a custom recovery installed boot into that and mount ums from there, as recovery doesn't depend on the data partition it can unmount and remount it

[ Q ] Apps to SD Card mods for S3 ?

Hi, I've searching around for mod that can mount my sdcard as internal storage.
I found the thread but i'm having no luck. Not working.
Do you guys know other mods ? Im using CM10 Nightly build btw
Thnks for your help

no, it's the only one, you're doing something wrong. it works
Directory bind is an alternative app you can try. Doesn't switch sdcards but moves game data to sd while fooling phone to believe they're still in internal. Works great for large games

Can you provide me link to that thread ?
I tried the mod again today and I found out that my sd card and internal storage have been swapped.
But when i see storage on setting, my internal storage is still unswapped, but my sd card become internal storage also.

[Q] External SD mounting location

After upgrading to JellyBean, discovered the external SD card now has a new mount location: /storage/external_SD. It is no longer listed under /mnt/ or /sdcard/ as in ICS.
It's that the case for everyone else?
The internal memory is still mounted as /storage/sdcard0, /mnt/sdcard, and /sdcard.
How come there is no /mnt/extSD or /extSD?
Can I manually create the links so I can access the SD card more easily?
Thanks in advance!

Yeah, the same thing happened to me. I added the mount point using:
Code:
mount -o bind /storage/external_SD/ /sdcard/external_sd
I doubt this will stick after a reboot, but if it doesn't I'm sure there's a way to make that work.
Actually, it looks like if you really want to change it back (probably not a great idea) you should be able to change the mount options in /etc/vold.fstab
There is a comment in that file noting the change, so it would be really easy to reverse if you wanted.
Leave it alone and just get used to it. This is actually the proper way of doing it. The sdcard link folder to the external SD card was a horrible implementation.

You can't exactly... the "internal storage" in your screen shot is the /data partition for installing applications, that is the normal place apps go. Under normal circumstances you cannot install apps to your internal (12.5GB) storage, it is considered external storage to the operating system, hence why it is in /sdcard0 and your real microSD card is /sdcard1. To use these areas for apps you must use a tool like App2SD, Link2SD, or similar app, and only some apps can be moved, if it has a widget it cannot be moved and there are a few other rules that it will ward you about.
Okay.... So I did what you said and tried link2sd, but when moving apps to SD I get an 'INSUFFICIENT STORAGE ERROR'
And isn't there suppose to be an 'move to SD card' option in this app?
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
No, not in KitKat anyways, it doesn't have the SD card support that ICS had, Google hates SD cards for some reason, and has been limiting SD card support more and more in each Android version since Ice Cream Sandwich.
As far as the error in Link2SD, not sure, I haven't used it in years... Sorry.
I can be able to move apps to sdcard0 on omni kitkat rom...guess I'll stick 2 it,other kitkat roms excluding liquidsmooth and omni are a bit laggy

Sounds like you need to format the internal storage then mount it and just for good measure backup the external and format that and then mount too. I had a similar problem and when I did this all is well. I hope this helps.

How do you go about formatting the internal sd card. I just went from 4.2 to 4.4.4 and now TWRP and CWM recoveries will not mount and recognize the internal card. I can't even access the internal card to format it or anything else. How do I go about fixing this. 4.4.4 is pretty sweet.

Thanks for getting back to me.
The problem is the real internal storage is unmountable on my phone. My external sd card it appears to be partitioned as the system and external storage sd cards. There is no sdcard0.
The internal emmc card is unaccessible even in recovery.

Oh got ya. I tried researching a little bit and didn't find the info I was looking for. Could you please be a little more specific. What steps would I need to go through to do this. Right now I'm running 4.4.4 Pac-Man with the internal SD card issues.
