-Exact model phone? (e.g. GT-I9100, or GT-I9100G?)
-"ics 4.0.3 any firmware" means what? Which ones have you tried?
-Did you try the OFFICIAL RELEASE 4.0.3 version? (i.e. through Kies?) I mean you could have been trying one of the leaks, which were known to have bugs.

i have gt-i9100, i tried leaked 4.0.3 europe I9100XXLPH_I9100OXALPH_OXA I9100XXLP2_I9100OXALP2_OXA and today i flashed it with I9100XXLPQ_I9100OXALPQ_XEO_2 4.0.3 official andi flashed it with odin

my handset directly shutdown when ever i press power button, no flight mode and no other option comes

Reads like a wrong firmware flashed .

Take a look at this.
EDIT: the thread linked only talks about the lock screen, but this reportedly also fixes the missing options on a long press of the power button.

problem solved as ctomgee mention
thanks
For ALL whoever are facing problems with the LOCK SCREEN here is the solution :
Tools Needed:
1. Hex Editor
2. Root Explorer
Steps to restore:
1. Using root explorer locate the /efs/imei/ folder. In that folder there should be a file called keystr. In my case the file was missing which is why the lock screen was missing and was causing my problems.
2. using root explorer create a new file called keystr
3. also in root explorer open the file keystr in text editor and type ON
4. now go into hex editor and locate the /efs/imei/keystr file.
5. using hex editor the first two values in green should be 4f and 4e. all others should be 00.
6. make sure you save the file.
7. reboot.
Press Thanks, if it helps you...

Hey I'm having a somewhat similar issue... I was trying to update to the latest cm9 and a different kernel codeworkx made and in the process the kernel instal failed... right after that my power button stopped responding completely... and now it.seems.to.be responding buy not always... seems.to maybe be a hardware problem but I'm.not sure... because the issue started right after this bad instal... maybe its my imagination. But feels like when pressed at a certain angle it works... :-|
Anyway I was trying this method to see if it helps but my hex editor doesn't show me anything inside the efs folder to be able.to.edit it... with root explorer I see two ketstr files... one is just keystr... the other is keystr.bak... should I only have one file or what may be the issue here...?? Both of them are set to on tho... :-|
Any help will be highly appreciated since I really don't want to need to repair the button since there is no warranty on this...

Samsung S2 Screen lock and Flight mode not working
Hello
today i upgrade my Samsung S2 from 2.3.6 to ICS 4.0.3 with the help of ODIN
Details
Phone Brand: Samsung
Phone Model: GT-I9100
Build Date: 03/04/2012
Android Version: 4.0.3
Type: Unbranded
PDA: XWLP7
PHONE (Modem): DDLPA
CSC: ODDLP9
File Name: GT-I9100_INU_I9100XWLP7_I9100ODDLP9_I9100DDLPA.7z
After successfully upgrade i am not getting the option of flight mode after pressing the power button for a long time( my phone simple restart) also screen lock is not working in my phone.
I tried to check the file under /efs..but this directory is empty in my phone,
Can you help me in resolving this problem.

The answer is already in the thread. You'll probably need to be rooted to do the fix.

First off; are you rooted? If not, you need to root first. Then try the fix linked above.
Edit: oops... didn't see oinky's post.

SG2 after Kernel Flash Homebutton gone, and Hardreset

Hi folks,
i'm and european (german) with an prepaid, simlock-free net-free SG2 device.
At the moment i am in New York City. First - everything was alright. Only GPS Signal couldn't be found, i downloaded much stuff - cleared A-GPS - nothing worked for me. So i tried to flash another Kernel.
Problem - i'm on a Mac. I did it with Heimdall and this instruction: http://galaxys2root.com/galaxy-s2-root/how-to-root-att-galaxy-s2-on-mac-or-linux-sgh-i777/
After that (worked) - GPS also worked - but my Home-Button now is like "dead". It doesn't react. No Hardware issue. It must be the kernel i flashed to it. I tried to flash another kernel with the same command :
sudo heimdall flash --kernel zImage
Click to collapse
but the second time flashing a kernel didn't work for me.
the boot screen now has a yellow sign with an "!" in it.
So i chose a "Hard reset" in the Privacy Settings of Android 2.3.4.
Now my Home-Button doesn't work and i can't step through the initial android setup process .... because my Home-Button doesn't work.
How do i fix this? Please help me! I'm on vacation and i need the GPS later for Florida trip with car.
Tell me how i can read out Kernel / Firmware / Baseband without running a system (w/o home button usage) or how to get the original kernel working again.
i need you guys !
I use Mac OS X Lion.
when i now want to flash a kernel this error appears in terminal running heimdall

sorry for push but i need urgent help.
very sorry for that.
specs
i got specs now:
Modelnumber: GT-I9100
2.3.6
Basisband: I9100XXKI4
Kernel-Version: 2.6.35.7_ZedomaxStockKernel [email protected] #21
Buildnumber: GINGERBREAD.XWLA4
android 2.3.6. now running.
what to do next ?
i can't fix that kernel .... heimdall still complains even after reinstalling with sudo open heimdall command
Hi mate, try this...
Turn OFF your phone, remove the battery, leave it for about 3 mins, place the batt again, dont turn ON...! try if you can enter into the Recovery Mode of the S2 by holding the Volume Up + Home + Power buttons of your Galaxy until the Samsung logo comes up.
After that you can try to do a WIPE of the "Cache" and "Dalvik Cache", not Data or you gonna lose anything, and restart..
thanks for the reply dude.
I can't do a wipe cache or wipe dalvik cache without a working home-button. i can't choose in the menu........
the problem is the firmware. my home -button doesn't work. How do i solve this ?
Try select with the power menu button .
jje
power button selection doesn't work. the menu is disappearing. by pressing power button again menu appears again.
can't access "advanced"
now i'm going to staples.... fixing that **** with odin -.- wish me luck
please send me some kernels here with tutorial what to do in odin.
i need that help
same happains to be i oden the stock roms, custom roms but no use, home button is gone
@OP, you've flashed something meant for the SGH-I777 on your GT-I9100. Just flash a stock ROM for the correct device.
There is an easy fix. Use a USB jig to get into download mode. Then flash again with heimdall but this time use a i9100 kernel/ROM
SO HARDCORE
****ing finally did it in download-mode and with RIGHT firmware from sammobile AND the other Mac from my brother running heimdall the first time on it.
My Specs now:
Modelnumber: GT-I9100
Android-Version:2.3.6
Basisbandversion: I9100XXKI4
Kernel-Version: 2.6.35.7-I9100XWLA4-CL900411 [email protected] #2
Buildnumber: GINGERBREAD.XWLA4
Now with my german SIM card from blau.de (e-plus) doesn't get the american cell-phone network connection.
But all Buttons are working again.
Should i flash the "modem" file from "I9100XWLA4_I9100XXKI4_I9100EPLK1" now with heimdall?
Or which basis band protocol/ version is the right one for a working european AND northamerican network.
Please give me some additional information how to flash it and what file / basis band.
so glad now ...... at least i can listen to music or surf on starbucks wifi for orientation in new york ...... i was sooo lost the last days.
PS: i still have the CWM (i think) in vol down & power button mode
ok i tried heimdall again now to flash modem.bin again with MB Pro of my brother
i successfully detected device . then tried heimdall flash --modem modem.bin
error was protocol not detected.
at the second try: error was : like in post 1. claiming interface failed.
haalp please
............... just need a name of baseband and a short how to do
can i update my baseband with CWM ?
there is a "sim card symbol" in the status bar with an "!".
if i want to call somebody there's the message "couldn't connect network"
haalp.
nothing helped.
I still get no mobile network connection.
I have DarkyOTA installed, rooted.

Kernel won't matter for signal quality.
I'm in Oregon, with an I9100, on AT&T. My device currently has XXKI3 firmware, which has XXKI3 modem, and everything works perfectly.
That said, I believe the XXKI4 modem should work as well. Looks like you have the XXKI4 modem, based on post what you have in post 11. But you also say you are trying with a German provider SIM card? Have you tried with an AT&T SIM card?
EDIT to add: Getting a pre-paid SIM from AT&T may end up being cheaper in the long run for you than whatever roaming agreement E-plus has with AT&T anyways. Just food for thought.
EDIT 2: you can always try reflashing XXKI4 modem, or if you want to try it, flash the XXKI3 modem. Modem thread here.
well i know i am roaming. I leave internet shut off. But i want to telephone in Problem situations when i loose my little brother etc.
I have DarkyOTA and i can flash every Firmware (Modem?! -same?!) which is displayed there.
XXKI4 doesn't work either ...... (flashed from DarkyOTA ... root ok ...flash ok ... SU ok ....)
well that SIM Card worked that days until i messed up my phone flashing
lol ****ing **** I9000XWLA4 works

The first thing I would try would be doing a full wipe. I suppose you just flashed it on top of GB.

I did the same thing (flashed XXLPQ on top of GB), and I'm having the same problem. No lock screen/phone isn't going into sleep mode. Long-pressing the power button gives no options but simply turns off the phone. So I've decided to do a full wipe, but at the risk of sounding like a total noob, what do I need to do exactly? I've already gone through CWM Recovery mode, wiped all the data and user cache. Also did a factory reset. That brought the phone back to default settings, but yet still on ICS, with still the same problems. I reflashed ICS and still no good. Obviously I'm doing something wrong, but what do I do? I'm thinking I'm meant to revert back to GB, or maybe even back to the original stock build (though I didn't backup the ROM). But I'm also wondering how that would work without causing problems, since I'd be flashing an old GB build on top of ICS.
In short: I'm a noob and I don't know what to do. Please help!
Edit: I never lost the "NO" keystr file in my efs/imei folder.
Edit 2: FIXED! Both lock screen and power button options are back.
Despite having retained the keystr file, it was actually necessary to fix it up... Here's how I did it (make sure your device is rooted):
Download "Android Terminal Emulator" from the Play Store. Just open it and type in this code:
su
echo -n ON > /efs/imei/keystr
sync
reboot
Click to collapse
And that's it.
I have since turned off my phone and turned it back on and it is still working fine, so you shouldn't have any problems retaining the file upon reboots. I hope this solves your problem.

Network Problems after upgrading to ICS

In summary I have upgraded to ICS (Official), but am unable to connect to my carrier network and some of the OS seems missing; If I long press my power button I don't get the device menu, it just turns off.
Full details:
I am on a South African network, and the ROM shipped with my device is I9100XWKI4_I9100OJCKI1_XFA. I downloaded two variants of the new ICS ROM from link;XWLP7 & XXLPQ and I downloaded the latest Odin.
From there I followed these instructions:
Extract the firmware
Open the included Odin
Put your device in Recovery MODE (Home + Volume up + Power)
Wipe Data/Factory reset
Wipe Cache
Take Out Your battery & put it back in
Put your device into Download MODE (Home + Volume Down + Power)
Click PDA and select *.tar.md5
Then finally click START!
On both ROMs, following the PASS message my phone rebooted, and everything starts up perfectly; Applications get installed and so on. Only one big problem, I can not connect to a carrier network (The OS also never prompts me to unlock my SIM card). When I bring down my network menu (swipe down) it says Emergency Calls Only. I then figured I would try and manually select a carrier network, so I went and scanned for networks and selected Vodacom. I then get an error message saying "Error cannot connect". I also don't seem to have access to the menu one gets when holding down the power button, if I hold it down the device shuts down; no silent, power off, etc menu.
This happens with both of the rom variants I have. After trying everything in my limited knowledge I gave up, found and downloaded the old I9100XWKI4_I9100OJCKI1_XFA rom. I am now back on that rom and everything is working fine.
I have also tried following these steps: link
Except I restore factory settings and wipe cache before deploying the ROM. I then sought the help of a fellow Droid user from the South African forums, who suggested that I flash onto the old Dutch firmware (GT-I9100_XEN_I9100XWKJ3_I9100XENKJ1_I9100XXKI4). After confirming it worked and I could get onto the network, I took the SIM out and did a proper firmware upgrade via KIES. The upgrade went in without any issue, BUT after the upgrade the problem was still there; no carrier network, no power button menu.
After further fiddling I figured that the OS not asking for my SIM PIN must be one of the causes of my issue, so I went to my settings and turned SIM security off and on. After doing so, suddenly the device hopped onto my carrier network. This did not solve the issue though, as I have to do this after every reboot.
I have checked to ensure my IMEI number is fine, and it is 100%. When I flashed to the XEO version, I could get into the *#272* menu and change my CSC. After doing so, problem was still there.
I am now totally confused as to what on earth could be causing the issue, especially considering other people on the same device with the same carrier seem to be able to flash without hassle - does anyone have any suggestions, or ideas? Come on XDA!
Try checking the efs\imei folder to see if the keystr file is there. If its not, make one with the value 1. Search the q and a forum for more info
Can this be done without rooting my phone?
EDIT: Required rooting. Was the missing "keystr" file in my EFS/IMEI directory (link)

[Q] Problems after kies ICS update from 2.3.5 H3G to 4.0.3 H3G

Hi everyone,
this is my first post, hoping to don't break some rule
sorry for may not so perfect english
I spent last two days searching info and threads in the forum but no luck.
I own two Galaxy S2, one is for research and modding ^_^ the other one is for stock use and work.
all of two were branded H3G Italy.
the one i use for testing is an MP1.300, actually it has the CBR AOSP ROM
and everyting go smooth apart from some little bug I'm notifying the author 89luca89.
In the past month i flashed various rom, official and modded, and all went like a charm.
Now the second phone: it was a stock 2.3.5 H3G branded phone, everything was ok (apart a problem i will explain later)
two days ago i updated the phone using kies and got the ICS 4.0.3 H3G, everything went well but after the restart the phone didn't recognize the sim, i tryied reflashing wiping rooting triple wiping unrooting etc and then i discovered two strange beaviors:
1) i was wrong, the sim GET RECOGNIZED from the phone but if there is the pin protection active the phone don't shows the unblocking request so no gsm network at all, if i remove the pin protection from the sim the phone works normally.
2) the power button now switch off the phone without show the power menu with the classic fly mode - data on/off reset shutdown etc.
To be shure it was a software problem and not an hardware one i flashed on this phone the CBR AOSP ROM and the phone worked normally with or without the pin, the power menu is ok and so on.
the strange thing is... the hardware model of the phone is MP 0.600 inspite of classic MP1.200 or 1.300.
now i'm asking you some tips... and i'm curious if someone can explain me that strange HW model (MP 0.600)
Now the aforementioned problem
this strange beavior already happened some months ago and after some days the phone didn't switch on at all so i send everything at service center and the phone returned me simply reflashed with 2.3.5 (the same rom it has when the problem appeared the first time.
Probably there is a strange behaviour with the hardware but i'm wondering why the AOSP rom work well..
I forgot to write that the IMEI is correct and that the sim works well in other phones and other sims show the same beaviour on the unlucky phone
all the roms ICS AOSP e AOKP works well, only official stock samsung ICS (H3G XEU XEN etc.) show the problem.
finally i flashed various modem but nothing changes.
sorry again for my bad english.

Luca "silverjingle"
in another post someone asked me how i saw the hardware version of my phone...
following the procedure i used (simply used service code...)
from the dialer insert the code
*#*#197328640#*#
then press:
[2] version info
then
[1] SW VERSION -> [5] READ ALL SW VERSION
(i can't post external link so cut, modify and paste the link in you browser...)
i46 dot tinypic dot com/w2ocx1.png
or
[2] HW VERSION -> [1] READ HW VERSION
i46 dot tinypic dot com/oh8zkp.png
No Idea?
it's possible that no other people had such issue?
I remember some month ago someone writing about the problem of the power menu disappeared... but I'm not able to find that thread...
So no luck...

Search for /efs/imei/keystr file fix.
WOW
I replaced the file keystr and now the long press of the power botton
shows the standard menu and...
the phone is requesting to insert the pin at boot for the sim.
Now the strange thing is that this normally happen AFAIK when you flash
and reflash and do something wrong with firmwares and wipes...
the strange thing is that this phone was stock, not rooted...
(now i rooted the phone to restore the file and to try with other firmwares tnah original).
i noticed in the efs folder there are other missing files respect another phone
but I don't know if they are files created on the fly in special cases.
(I noticed the file mps_code.dat contains the product code and varying after a flash and one or two wipe)
There is some guide to learn the use of every single file in the efs folder?
and... why aosp roms function well even without that file in the efs folder?
I think it would be interesting try to discover whats is causing such behaviour.
so, thanks and.. set this thread as resolved

How stable is the firmware 4.0.4 for I9100G

Hi
I have a 4.0.3 france firmware installed samsung I9100G.But lately the no lockscreen problem (holding the power button will not bring the options and just shuts the phone off),ringtone and a few other problems started to annoy me really bad.
I'm thinking to install the 4.0.4 german firmware from samfirmware but how stable is it? is there any problem with the 4.0.4 or anything special i should know about it?
i have reflashed the 4.0.3 but those problems didnt go away.
thanks for any helps.
Go back to GB.For me that is more stable than ICS or JB.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
If the firmware is official, it should be stable. So, your choice: or GB, or ICS.

ok here are the problems:
- The power button options are not showing up. if i hold the power button it just closes the phone directly.
- The screen lock doesnt work. Wont lock the screen with any option there.
- The sim lock doesnt work. If i put the sim lock on (put a lock on the sim) the phone starts normally but wont let me call or text. So i have to disable the lock on the sim to make it work normal.
Now these are the problems i have seen so far. When i got the phone it was GB and there was absolutely no prob until updating to ICS. So whats the suggestion, should i give a try on custom firmware ICS or go back to official GB? if you say custom firmware then which one?

It's always recommended to perform a factory reset after upgrading your phone software
Swyped from my Galaxy SII
For me the samsung stock roms are like windows o/s.
GB=xp
Ics=vista
Jb=w7
A crude comparison......but vista was a pile of crap.....

1. If your phone is not rooted, root.
2. Create file /efs/imei/keystr, containing the word ON.
3. Make sure the file has rw-r--r--, or 644 permissions.
4. ...
5. Profit!

ok thank you very much bro. that did it
i first rooted the phone from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1679778 with the option 2.
then used this little guide:
- Download "Terminal Emulator" app from market
- open it
- type into the command:
su
echo -n ON > /efs/imei/keystr
sync
Go to home, force close your terminal app, shut your screen off, and when your turn it back on your lock screen should? be there.
Obviously you must be rooted the "su" command
And for Signal Problem Simply do not put any pin on your sim ,,,
