How do you force an Exchange sync (Contacts) - Motorola Photon 4G

How do I force a sync for contacts (Exchange)
Yes, I know how to do email sync, but I can find no way of doing this with contacts. It seems like they sync at some predetermined interval.
I add a contact in exchange on my PC, then if I want to see it immediately (like I'm driving to a client and setting the GPS) I have to reboot the friggen phone to make it available..
My EVO did this easily.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

You can always force sync through the “Accounts and sync” settings page.
Click Settings
Click Accounts and sync
Click on your corporate/exchange account
Click Sync now
Or you can use something like the free app "Synker", a sync widget, to create a widget that allows you to force sync specific accounts regardless of the current auto-sync setting.
You can also use the power control widget, Widgetsoid, etc… to “toggle” the global Android auto-sync setting off/on, which effectively will cause a force sync.

[Help] Preventing Google account from syncing e-mail and contact

This has been a bit frustrating.
When you go through set-up, it gives you the option of adding a Google account which is necessary for using Market. But it also syncs your e-mail into the Gmail app and syncs your contacts. I don't want either of those because my Exchange has both contacts and I want to use the HTC mail widget for my Gmail.
I have tried various ways to prevent this from happening, but all have failed.
1. I went through set-up connecting to wifi and adding my Gmail. Then I went to options and removed syncing. But my e-mail and contacts are still in the Gmail app.
2. I did not connect to wifi so that I can first go to options and removing syncing, but that didn't help.
3. I created another generic gmail account just so I can use it for market. However, now that account is connected to my GTalk app instead of my normal account.
So here is my goal:
Use my everyday Gmail with GoogleTalk app, but without it syncing my Gmail contacts or my e-mail with the Gmail app.
Is there any way to do this? Am I missing something? Can you go to the syncing options without actually setuping the Google account first?
Thanks for the help.
Also, while we are on the topic:
What is the main difference between the two? I keep reading online that the Gmail app is supposed to be Push e-mail, but I have also read just as many posts saying it doesn't work or it doesn't do that.
I figured out a solution:
1. Go through set-up and connect to Wi-Fi, but do not set-up a Google account. Skip it.
2. Go to Settings>Syncing>Checking Auto-Sync and Sync in Background
3. Settings>Add Account>Google Account
And here is where you need some fast fingers...
4. Settings>Check Sync in Background and Auto-Sync and quickly click on Google Account you just set-up and uncheck Sync Contacts, Calendars, and E-mail.
I was able to uncheck e-mail sync, but it had synced some of my contacts already. That wasn't a problem b/c I haven't set up my Outlook account so I just deleted all the Google contacts it had synced. But I was fast enough where I didn't let it sync Gmail account.
Now no e-mails in Gmail app and I can use Google Talk.

how to stop syncing gmail contacts and calendars?

I have searched and searched for this answer and I cannot find one that will work. I am new to android and this is causing me issues!!
I setup my google account and do not want my google contacts syncing. Other threads I have found say go into setting and uncheck syc contacts box and it will no longer sync. but I dont have a box to uncheck? Is there a way to just sync gmail mail and not the contacts? If there is please please please tell me how.
settings - accounts and settings - select the google account - THEN you will see checkboxes
mine does not give me that option. the only options it gives me is touch contacts to sync now. there are no boxes even visible to check or uncheck
It is in phone settings (or Settings app), not gmail settings.
Thats what I am saying, I go into settings, accounts and sync, choose my gmail account. it gives me the following options
sync books
sync contacts
sync gmail
sync calendar
below each of them it says touch to sync now. There are no boxes, i dont see where it give me the options to change the settings for any of them

settings button on bottom next to home screen- accounts and sync- uncheck auto sync.
You will see your account under manage accounts.
So then why don't you just click 'sync gmail'?
im trying to get it to stop syncing contacts. Its like its set up by default and I cannot get it to quit syncing the contacts

You have Auto-sync turned off. That's why you don't see the check boxes because you are not automatically sync anything.
Go back to account and sync screen and check the box 'Auto-sync'. Now you will see check boxes on all the items under your Gmail account.
ugh!!! your a genius!! Thank you, Im sorry for the ingorance. Coming from an Iphone, this is all very new to me.

[Q] Why won't Gmail background sync?

I have a Tab 10.1 WiFi running Task 14 with Pershoot's Kernal (not overclocking).
I find that Gmail won't sync in the background. I have to manually load the Gmail app for it to sync and show me new/changed messages. I have Wifi sleep policy set to never and background sync enabled in the settings.
How do I get Gmail to automatically sync?
Thanks
I've had that happen before. Just clear data for gmail app and it should be good to go then.

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried this and at first thought it worked but it hasn't. Gmail has gone back to not autoupdating until I manually launch the app...
Have you checked your sync settings?
Go to settings > accounts & sync > your gmail account > check sync gmail is checked.
It's normally pretty good at indicating on one of the latter screens whether there are sync issues or not.
You need to do it manually in sync as he said ^
Might want to change to alert per email.

Calendar syncing issue on Galaxy S3

I'm just starting off with Android, and I can't figure out how to get my Google Calendar synced with the S3. Here is a screenshot of when I hit Calendars in "S Calendar": http://i.imgur.com/p3CcV.png
When I create a new event, I can choose which calendar it should be in: http://i.imgur.com/7V5lS.png
I created a Test event and tried choosing either of the other calendars, saving and syncing, but no matter what I cannot see the event on any other machine with my Google account. In Accounts and Sync, my Google account options are all checked to sync. This damned thing will not sync, though
(Contacts syncs fine, thankfully). Would appreciate any help!

My advice is to login from your notebook or desktop computer first and access Google Calendars directly as you can setup your main calendar much easier there. Once setup (calendar name, color, sharing options, etc), you can easily go under S Calendar and choose to sync the name of the calendar you just created online.
Afterwards, you'll be able to add/delete events from both your device or on your computer. Hope this helps!
Thanks, the problem is a little different now as I finally got the damned thing to sync with my Google account. Now, every time I create a new Event I keep getting the default calendar to be Samsung Calendar: https://www.dropbox.com/s/iq8bco0pnp7s2ni/Screenshot_2012-06-28-21-23-52.png
Yet in the S Planner Settings > Calendars I have this: https://www.dropbox.com/s/hdj6hpp3tjvo66y/Image-1530870737.png As you can see, I only have my Gmail account checked, I have the My Calendars/Tasks and Samsung account all unchecked.
I even went into Accounts and Sync and unchecked every option for my Samsung account there, so the only account syncing right now on my phone is my Google account. Still the new Events in S Planner default to the Samsung Calendar!?! Greatly appreciate any way to solve this
Have you tried clearing data in calendar and calendar storage in settings yet? Then resync calendar stuff after that.

I'm having the same issue after I created a new gmail account. It syncs fine with my BlackBerry. When I added my new gmail account on my S2 it wouldn't sync my calendar or contacts. I thought there was an issue with my S2. It won't sync to my S3 as well. Is there something in gmail that I have to do? The calendar dates are still syncing on my old gmail account.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Thanks, I did that, even rebooted the phone, but Samsung Calendar is still default. I think I'm going to use Jorte and forget about S Planner, despite how great it looks :/
I fixed my gmail calendar sync issues. No need to respond in case someone figures it out later on.
I got Calendar Calendar Events synced just fine, but apparently it won't sync Google Tasks. It wants you to use the Samsung-specific task system I guess. That sucks.
As soon as I root my phone I will delete the calendar app. I use the "Jorte" calendar app (available in Play store) which syncs everything and has the most robust options of any calendar app that I've seen so far (wince the last time I went app hunting last November, could be new apps by now). Jorte allows you to view Google Calendar Events and Google Tasks at the same time in multiple, customizeable different types of views (monthly, various versions of weekly views, daily, etc). Jorte is SUPER customizeable. I have found no other app that comes close in terms of functionality.
Another app call "LLama - Location Profiles" lets you automatically customize just about any aspect of your phone depending on your location and time of day. It will change your profiles automatically when you enter or leave a location at certain times. You can even tell it to remind you about something based on location and time. For example, you can have Llama remind you to "Clean Mom's car" when you arrive at Mom's house, or to "Ask my boss that question before I leave work!" if you are at your work location and it is almost time to leave.
That's a shame Samsung won't let you sync Google Tasks.
It's even more of a shame that Android's native Calendar app doesn't support Google Tasks. Come on now Google!

Thanks, yeah I have gone through oodles of calendar and task apps over the last few days, tried damn near everything worth trying, and I've settled with an excellent combo for me: Astrid + Jorte + Agenda Widget. It does everything I need. Thanks for the Lama app heads-up, will check it out!

same here
What's the "desktop g-calendar?"
Though I've been using Jorte all this time quite happily, after resetting a few days back I solidified that not entering your Samsung account information on first boot of the phone solves the S Planner syncing/calendar choice issue pretty much. You must set your Google account up first, then a Samsung account if you'd like. S Planner will then see the Google account as "default" and use it.
desktop as in when i access from my desktop pc. or laptop.

S3 Calendar Syncing issue
I just added a Google Calendar from the play store. Synced instantly!

Dear Google-Android- and Samsung-S3-developers!!
Here is a list of some very annoying facts:
- I have a Sasmung Galaxy S3 GT-I9300 with the latest Android-Version 4.1.2.
- if I set up a new Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync account on my S3 and sync it with my corperate Exchange 2010 Server I have duplicated entries in my S-Planner Calendar right from the very first sync.
- especially birthday entries (untimed entries with yearly repeat) are duplicated.
- I can reproduce this bug no matter how often I delete the calendar memory, remove and re-instal the Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync account, reset my phone etc.
- if I google this bug I get thousands of hits where users are reporting the very same bug with their Android phones (like in this thread).
- some of these duplicate entry bug reports go back for more than 1 year but so far no solution.
- syncing of contacts, emails and calendar entries with MS Exchange is considerd to be a basic function of a smart phone. That's why this functions is part of the pre-installed OS.
- the pre installed Exchange clients on all other devices (Apple iPhone, Nokia Symbian or Windows phones etc.) do NOT have this bug. Thus this is an Android bug and not MS Exchange.
SO WOULD YOU PLEASE FINALLY FIX THIS ANNOYING BUG IMMEDIATELY!!!!!!!!!!

[Q] Make Automate Task to manually sync Google Voice

Hi
Some network I connect to during my daily life, do not allow for push notifications. So I want to make a task that syncs all my accounts. This was easily done with Llama for Gmail. I just told it when I'm connected to those networks that don't allow push, to sync every 5 minutes. The strange thing is that Google voice is not show up under my google account in settings as a syncing app. You have to actually open the app and click the refresh button.
Does any one know a way to make a manual sync with Google voice in the background? Can I run some intent?
Thanks,
Michael
Anyone?
