So.. why are you running a custom ROM? Give reasons
I ran it because mainly of battery life and awesome speeds
Post yours here so maybe others will flash a custom ROM too.
You can also post what you personally do after you flashed if you'd like

To fix what Samsung failed to do since the release.
Thank you XDA
Oh yeah that's also one of my reason
Sent from the dirty little green robot.
Mainly because roms make our phones like they should have been....I mean with a computer can you not custmise stuff the way you want? Why not a android also..That and because I am kind of a geek when it comes to making my phone opped out as much as possible...
And also because it helps the following scenario...lol:
Newish to android geeky girl walks up to me and says, "Oh, I see you have a Vibrant? That phone sucks because it doesn't have basic stuff like working GPS or Froyo." then I can reply by saying, "Mine does, here let me introduce you to the world of flashing...and no that's not a euphemism."
I wanted to be rooted and for some reason the stock rom didnt way to stay rooted so, bam, nero v3. No more un-rooting problems.
Stock is gay.
Custom is good.
Some guys tune thier cars & some guys tune their electronics.
its only natural to want to get your moneys worth out of a device.
I paid full price for my Vibrant (couldn't upgrade)
Had I not figured out how to load better roms.. I prolly would have thrown it through the window of the Tmobile store, or at the samsung corporate office.
Only because it uses some tweaks for speed up and fixes those little enjoying bugs?

I run a custom rom so i can play Dungeon defenders smoothly.
I rooted because I wanted to try new apps that were only available on froyo. Other reasons were o wanted to unleash the full potential of this beast. Its much snappier with an improves battery life. I wanna say 'thank u samsung' for making me go ahead and root coz u were not willing to update ur flagship phone in a timely manner.

I wanted to push this phone to the limit and you cant do it with stock.
Got tired of waiting on samsung to release froyo

I'm surprised only over person did it to run froyo apps, haha.

i want to get what i paid for.. remove restrictions.. and yes i get bored a lot of times with the same stuff..
All the cool kids were doing it...
80% for Froyo
10% for speed
10% for battery life
10% for awesome factor

110% reason to run custom
Speed. Lag fix and overclocking. I wouldn't have had a reason at all if Samsung didn't use RFS. I can honestly live without froyo, it is nice though. I probably still would have rooted anyway just because The only gizmo I haven't modded yet is my PS3. As soon as it's confirmed sony can't block psn use and there is a safe proven method to get back to stock it will be done.

because we are android smart phone users, not iphone users.
But then you can jailbreak an iphone and it will give nearly the same effect. Haha.

It would be better to test it yourself, then you can decide which one is suitable for you
For me, LIA rom is my favorite but the development was halted
Energy and Elegancia are my favorite now
Cheers...
I gotcha yeah i was just trying to figure out which one has gotten rid of all the stupid "Stock apps" that it comes with. haha the last phone i modified was the old tmobile shadow... but i was looking at the energy and it seems pretty good to. which one seems to be the most stable?

Any of the Energy ROMs are stable and smooth and has all that stuff you were talking about out of them. I have tried three of them myself. I have not tried the Elegancia ROMs yet, might be my next tested ROM though.
Ok cool thanks the energy one will probably be my first ROM then
Energy are good, the older 23699 is my favourite as sense version seems very stable & 23699 is more compliant to older apps in terms of page scrolling.
Any of the Energy ROMs should be a good, my HD2 is close to perfect thanks to Energy & XDA
Hi!
Dutty's ROMs and Miri's ROMs are also well. At those ROMS the stock philosophy is required so you got a clean and very-very similar result as at Stock ROM only difference is that any annoying issues are gone
Cheers!
I second Dutty's ROM. Running V21 WWE atm. Smooth and fast.
alright cool ill have to check those out thanks for the heads up!
Right now I'm using Artemis v57.
Very fast and stable
Sorry if i reposted the thread, but I've been looking around all day and im trying to find a ROM with 2.3 firmware, long battery life and something that looks really good. Any suggestions ?
CM7 is nice. Not sure about long battery life though.(wasn't good for me, but probably possible to make it better)
Bionix Next Gen, Trigger, and CM7 in no particular order. I have yet to find a 2.2.1 ROM I've been happy with.
Edit: If you want 2.3 it's definitely CM7.
i have a similar question but looking for the stock samsung skin with gingerbread, does this exist? this is for my blind dad that needs enormous text.
Yes ive tried CM7. It was alright but the battery life is horrible, and I wanna try something new

test drive my galaxyy extreme

is this what you were looking for ? i flashed this and im currently running it, its pretty good i guess, but im still looking for 2.3 firmware
well cm7 is out but not stable tho. is there a particular reason for 2.3 ?

try this one. its from Team EDT.
very smooth, only thing lacking is GPS. if u can live without it, it would be the best choce for 2.3

Before you get flamed for posting in the dev forum, I will try to answer your Q...
Right now each of the GB roms are going to have their flaws and bugs. Not because of the devs creating them, but because more than likely this isn't the final GB release that we are going to see. What I would recommend is make a nandroid backup of your current setup through CWR and flash a couple different ones and see which works for you. I personally am waiting for the BAMF rom to drop as they seem to always put out really great roms. Not that the others are bad, I am just sticking to what I know and like.
As for Netflix, I have heard it only works on CM7 right now as well. I am sure it will be tweaked at a later date though. Right now the priorities are set on getting a stable rom out first with the basics running.
Hope this helps.
Not to be rude but all your questions Would be easily answered by doing very little research.

Xgo was right. You could have easily asked this in their threads as well.
BAMF + Gingerbread = #winnering, even in early alpha/beta stages. Thats what I use, FWIW.
Forgive the man for asking for actual users opinions... Hes a terrible person for doing so and should be shunned............... ok now that thats over with. I would say the BEST one is probably the actual gingerbread leak with the camera fix is probably the most stable at the moment. Since the software just came out the other day none of the ROMs are gonna really be any good. Netflix doesn't work on any of the Thunderbolt ROMs it only works on CM7 because its not based off of Thunderbolt code.
check out the GB roms listed on the official rom + kernel thread in the dev section. different roms for different preferences.

there you go.
Is anyone else having problems not getting 3g with the new radio with gingerbread rom? if so what can i do to fix this?
BAMF 2.0 is the best for me. YMMV.
I've been having success with gingeritis lately. I'm really loving the 3g Lte handoffs with the GB radio too.

Mine works with Gingeritis. I flashed the rom 2x before booting and wiped probably 3 imes not including the auto wipes built into Chingy's install. My transition from LTE (orlando) to 3G (the beach) was smooth and problem free. I havent had a single reboot...
Its pretty awesome for initially being alpha.
Hello all,
I just got the TB about 2 days ago. Its stock. Im not really impressed with it at all. I hate the HTC Sense crap. I have 12 days left if I want to return it and switch. If im going to keep it, I reallly just need to test it out the way I would really use it.
I want to root it and install a custom rom. I've been reading for 2 days and am comfortable rooting it, flashing the rom, radio, and kernel. I just cant use it with this sense crap on it and the battery life sux bad.
If I do root it, and flash the rom, radio, and kernel. How hard is it to go back to 100% undetectable stock (if I return it) I know how to unroot it just by tossing a stock image back on. But what about CWM? I root it with, flash CWM install a rom then do radio and kernal.
To undo it all do I just toss back a stock image? or do i need to find a copy of the stock radio and kernal? are they just in the stock image?
Do you guys think the hardware is better in the ThunderBolt vs the X2? I know the TB has wayyyyy better dev so far.... the X2 is dual core ... but only has 512mb ram.... I only get a stock quadrant of like 1500.... i watch vids on the X2 stock quad scores of like 2500+ and almsot dbl the FPS....
Any info would be awesome....thanks guys!
Full RUU's contain the radio and kernel.

Just toss a stock image, yes.
Quadrants don't mean anything.
The x2 has a locked bootloader.
I've seen it lag switching homescreens.
Android Police gave the x2 quite a hammering
Thanks guys.... Maybe I will keep it.... depends how it runs after some work...
I came from the org D1 w/ cm7. A very clean AOSP like feel... I've looked at some ROMS and see that they have CM7 but says its like pre alpha? I also see alot of people using that DAS BAMF one... I looked at pics of that one and wasnt sure on it.
Is there any ROMs that are fairly stable that are just like plain ole android, no sense crap just clean where i can customize it like i did on CM7? Anyone know a good combo with ROM/Radio/Kernel maybe even overclocked a tad.... that works pretty nice on the TB that I could try tonight?
sorry if this is the wrong section for this..... and thx agian for the help
Unfortunately the only AOSP builds we have is the pre-alpha CM7. You can use the BAMF Roms and then flash the de-sense option to it as well to get it close to an AOSP rom but thats about it. I hear people say that CM7 is fairly stable for them tho so maybe its an option for you.
It's a good thing you hate sense because the best Rom I have found (both performance and battery life) is bamf stripped v1.1. It's not an asop Rom but it has most of the sense stripped out with a very light UI, I installed launcher pro and its very fast and smooth
Kinda dont understand why one would buy an htc device knowing it has sense built into the framework only to complain about the sense?

He may have learned that he hates sense after he got it. I learned that I hate motoblur after I got my Droid X and I now know that I hate sense (after I got the thunderbolt) lucky for us there are plenty of other launchers to install to get the features and performance we want

Well.... I (like most others...i would think) choose a phone based on hardware and performance ..... not software. Not really saying the sense is bad.... just saying its not my style.... just seems to iPhone-ish.... ya dig?
Thanks for the help..... im going in...!

Because with the help of communities like XDA we can make mod our phones into the experience that we want I have only owned HTC android phones and I also find sense to be annoying lol.
If you're going to flash a froyo custom rom, I would stick with the stock radio.

I recommend the one with 1.13.605.7 CDMA AND 1.12.605.6 LTE. That one has much faster 3g than stock. The one with updated 1.13.605.7 CDMA/LTE caused reboots for me
