[Q] 4G network - Motorola Droid RAZR

First, noob, question.
My phone, XT910. Retail.en.EU, can use't in 4G network? when available in my country, Portugal
Tanks
Sorry, my bad English.

If you have an XT910, you don't have 4G. I don't know what networks are available in Portugal, but depending on what frequencies they run at, there's a chance you might not be able to get 3G, either (carrier dependent). Look up what carriers use what frequencies in Portugal...the XT910 has bands for 850/900/1900/2100 for 3G.

Thanks
I have 3G.
I made a test with SPEEDTEST.NET.
Hit gave me HSPA 3495Kbps Down and 1633Kbps Up.
When I bought the phone I was convinced that would have 4G, I only realized it was not so here in the forum.
There is no way to update radio in order to run 4G?
Thanks

there is no way to upgrade and there is no 4g in portugal. By the time there will be 4g in portugal you will probably buy another phone.
Just relax and enjoy your phone or emigrate to USA )

European HERO vs American

I currently have a telus HTC HERO in black but i am selling that one and buying a white HTC HERO.
The white HERO that im looking to buy is a european model.
I looked at the HTC website to see if there was any difference between the two phones and i found this:
HSDPA/WCDMA: 900/2100 MHz for Europe and 850/1900 MHz for USA.
So my question is will the european HERO work on canadian networks providers (FIDO, ROGERS)....would i have any issues with getting good signal connections and optimal speeds for 3G
thanks in advance
The Canadian GSM networks & AT&T in the US use a different 3G frequency than what GSM networks use in Europe & T-Mobile in the US. Due to this an European Hero on a Canadian network will not get 3G.
thank you for the quick reply.
I guess i will have to look for another seller.
Thanks again
Further, In Canada, networks like Bell and Telus are ONLY 3G, so without the North American 3G bands, you won't get any signal. I think Rogers has 2G, though. I'm not sure exactly which networks do and don't, but I know that at least some don't.

Umm, no....
As far as I know, the Bell and Telus joint network is 3G only. I don't know if the carriers have a deal to use EDGE from Rogers or areas not covered by 3G.
To the OP: Why don't you get a Hero from Telus? It's the same one as the European version, but works on the North American 3G band.

I dont like going on 3 year contracts so i buy my phones from resellers on craigslist. The seller specified that his HERO was from Europe so i wanted to find out if it would work. That was the only option at the moment but now I do have a Telus HERO that I bought from some other seller.
Thanks for the help btw.

UK phone in US - 3G does not work.

I just purchased a SG SII here in the US and later found out it is a UK phone (the sales rep said it was a US model)
anyway, the phone works great EXCEPT it will not log onto T-Mobiles 3G network. All I get is EDGE which is terrible.
How can I get it to go to 3G?
Spoke with T-Mobile, even got a new sim card. No help
Spoke wth Samsung US - they tried, could not help and then said to contact the UK.
Called Samsung UK and they said it should work, if not, bring it back as it is broken!
anyway, is there some sort of settings that I can change to make it work in the US.
I also need it to work in Brazil as I will be going there and will be using the Brazilian Tim network and installing their sim card.
thank you for your assistance in advance.
The phone is suppose to be:
HSPA+ 21Mbps/ HSUPA 5.76Mbps
EDGE/ GPRS Class 12
Quad band GSM 850/900/1800/1900
Quad band UMTS 850/900/1900/2100
Did you limit the phone to only work with 2G in the settings?
Check Wireless Network settings.
Much more better would be goto Settings->About phone, tell us what Baseband, and Kernel, and ROM version you are using.
Reboot phone.

Exactly, that phone will never work on T-Mobile USA 3G network, refund it or switch to AT&T. Makes you wish someone would regulate mobile networks here.
Edit: SGS2 should work fine on TIM Brazil.
you guys are absolutely certain that this phone will not work on T-Mobile?
what about certainty that it will work on Tim? I live in Brazil and defintely need it to work there.
Here, in the US, when I return next year, I can alway switch over to AT+T.
I need to be certain because if I get to brazil and it does not work, I am screwed because then it is almost impossible to get anything done to it.
BTW- they have been saying that t-mobile will have this same phone in a few months. How will that one be able to work? will it be possible to flash that info to this phone when it comes out?
thanks

The US T-mobile Variant is completely different from the UK model, won't be the same. Also it's true you can never get 3G with T-Mobile, don't know anything about TIM though.
T-Mobile uses the 1700 AWS band which this phone does not use so yes... You will NEVER get 3g or HSPA+ with T-Mobile U.S.
From Wikipedia's list of UMTS frequencies:
TIM Brasil Brazil 2008 April 850/2100

The phone will work fine for you in Brazil.

so when you say fine, the phone, 3g to get to the internet, etc etc will all work?
as it is here, the phone works great and when with wi-fi, the internet is great but EDGE sucks ass.
So, as I already know that I am beating the dead horse. 3G here with T-Mobile is never going to happen but it will work with AT+T, in Brazil, the phone for calls will work fine, 3G will also work fine too.
does anyone know about claro, vivo or oi in brazil? just wondering....
and what about other carriers in the US, will it work with anyone beside AT+T?
thanks again. this has been very useful!
EDGE runs on GPRS. Your phone matches TIM's UMTS frequencies so it will have 3G data on that network.

Why would you buy a phone without checking on what radio bands it works , its not like US has only one provider they all have different bands/frequencies.

as I said in my first post, I was told it was a US version phone. HENCE, I figured it would work in the US.
I buy unlocked phones as I am in Brazil 9 months a year and Cali 3 months a year so I can not be under contract.
but thanks for the help on this.

so if I have been schooled properly. T-Mobile uses 1700 and 2100, so without the 1700 band, it wont work!
I guess I got to talk with AT+T
will any other carrier in the US support this?????
thanks again to all who have helped....

And it does work in US ON AT&T. T-Mobile is only a minor carrier.
So it is your fault.

it seems that only T-Mobile and a few Canadian carriers (and cincinati bell) use the 1700 network! I wonder why?
they need to join the rest of the world and get on board with 2100!

[Q] Rogers Razr 3g/hspa bands. Does it work in Europe/UK?

I would like to buy this phone but i am moving to the UK in the new year. on the Rogers website it lists the frequencies of the of the Razr as:
GSM Bands: 850/900/1800/1900
HSPA Bands: 850/900/1900/2100
I was wondering if this means that you can use the Razr with 3g in the UK?... or even if the frequencies listed on the Rogers page are true?
It should work since 900, 2100 bands are presented

Would say yeah. But not HSPA, I think UK is still stucking with GSM.

All the major UK carriers support HSDPA/HSUPA, and one carrier (3) is currently rolling out HSPA+ this year. Coverage will be undoubtedly spotty though.

Photon in Australia

I moved to Australia this week. I brought my MoPho with me. It was a hassle getting it to work but i figured it out and thought to tell you how it went. I put a Vodafone AU SIM card in my phone but 3G would not work. I knew for a fact i was in a coverage area for 850Mhz 3G so I was pretty annoyed it would not work. Turns out with the Photon you have to manually ass the APN for Vodafone and probably a few others. I was able to get all the settings I needed from here.
http://ausdroid.net/apns/
tl;dr Sometimes when abroad you need to manually add the APN for the carrier.
I need to do that for my carrier too (Slingshot NZ, 850/2100Mhz) but after that it works fine, 3G GSM data is borked on the current ICS build though.
Ya. Im going to wait awhile before i put on another custom ROM. Still trying to get used to everything in Australia. Cant risk being without a phone. Im going to keep an eye on cm9. Until then i only have the precious data connection on my phone which is caped at 4GBs :'(. I miss unlimited.

Well. Thats a tricky question. Bellow i will list the different networks and what they support compared to the photon. Currently all three major carriers can provide 3G to the Photon. Telstra simply has a better network but it has nothing to do with how it interacts with the phone. For both Optus and Vodafone so far i have had to manually set the APNs. It was a ***** with the Optus one because of the separate APNs for internet and mms. Even though optus doesnt have umts850 and the photon doesnt have umts900 i am downloading about 4Mbs in East Killara (Suburb by Sydney) throught Optus' 2100 single band HSDPA+. I have not tested Telstra because they are so freaking expensive.
Photon supports:
800/1900 MHz (EV-DO Rev. A),
GSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz,
UMTS/WCDMA 850/1900/2100 MHz (HSPA+ at 14.4 Mbit/s)
OPTUS/Amaysim: (I only recommend for when time is being spent in Capital Cities that support 2100 single band)
GSM - 900/1800
UMTS - 900/2100 (2100 single band)
TELSTRA:
2G - 900/1800
3G - 850/2100 (850 is NextG)
LTE - 1800
Vodafone:
2G - 900/1800
3G - 850/900/2100

vodafone's 3g did not work for me at all, apns could not be set,
after a bit of hassle i got optus working and am happy so far, vodafone is sooo bad in aus anyway.
Yea i used my sprint touch pro 2 all last year down under.
Hoping the photon puts my tp2 on the shelf.
I agree with hodie though
Optus is good when your in Melbourne, sydney, perth, etc.but i thought telstra had the better overall service.

3G issue
Hi,
Im from Dominican Republic and I got a Photon, the phone use to works fine with my carrier, but since 2 weeks ago the 3G network is unavailable. My carrier is Claro Dominicana (GSM 850 MHz) and searching for the possible problem I think that one of the motorola update block that band since is the same one as ATT. I had rooted the phone and try with custom roms and also restore it to the stock rom but with no luck. Does anyone have face this issue? Is there a solution for this?
Thanks.

Visiting US, need right modem

I have a I9100 that I usually use the XXLPS modem from Germany on. However, the strongest signal I am getting is edge in the US using T-Mobile USA, where I know they have H+. Can anyone tell me which modem I should use?

It won't matter which modem you use.
You'll only get HSPA+ in SOME markets on T-mobile in the US on this phone. The majority of their network only uses the AWS band for H+, which this phone doesn't receive one of the two required frequencies.
They have been re-farming the 1900mhz band (which this phone DOES receive) for H+, but that has only happened in a relatively small number of markets.
Try to set your phone on AT&T, maybe that network will do better.

He meant to ditch the T-mobile SIM, and get one for AT&T. The phone gets H+ on all of AT&T's network.
