Hi guys,
need a hand here, yesterday I plugged my S2 to my PC but it wouldn't show up. I've done this many times before. I was getting the message saying 'usb device not recognized'. I then flashed the new ICS resurrection rom by moving it to my SD Card through an adapter. I thought maybe the usb problem would go away.
As my luck would have it the flash went badly it seems because i'm now getting the kernel panic message on my device. I can't get it to recovery mode but I can get it to download mode BUT Pc doesn't recognize the device still...
Could this maybe be a damaged port on my device?
Is it maybe a driver problem?
Any help would be much appreciated....
Anyone have any advice?

Did you install the usb drivers that are included in kies? They're in the kies\usb driver directory.

I plugged in a galaxy TAB and used KIES through my web browser to transfer items to the TAB. Does this interfere with the SGSII? I haven't used KIES with the SII
Instructions are to install Kies and connect the phone with the Samsung cable and drivers are found .It does not mention install another device and it will work so its a guess as to driver conflict due to Kies looking for the TAB .
Could be port on PC not a mainboard port USB on phone dirty or custom rom buggered phone .
I would flash stock GB rom via Odin .

I can't get the s2 into anything except download mode....I tried flashing a new rom to see if the usb problem would go away but something went wrong with the flash. I get the kernel panic error message. So no way of installing recovery or anything else...I have to fix it through odin but not getting it to see my device....

Sorry, missed that you can't get to anything BUT download mode.
Try flashing an older Gingerbread firmware wipe package then.
EDIT: specifically using mobile Odin, since your computer isn't detecting your phone via USB... not even sure if that works, but what do you have to lose at this point?

Download the apk to your computer, and email it to yourself? Or via wifi file copy?
EDIT: I'm a dork, right, your phone doesn't boot. Um... I'm not sure now... have to think about it.
I'm going to have to get a new usb port in my S2, I just hope it works after that. Found a few guys that can do it for about $40-$60. LI'll let everyone know how it goes....

Hi Everyone, Really need help here
I (drunkenly) messed around with CWM on my phone and formatted a few partitions that I shouldn't have. Result - brick!
Had a JTAG done and it was revived and placed back onto Stock 2.3.3
Got my phone home and went to flash Litening ROM 6.1 onto it to regain root access... ODIN got about 2/3 through and failed.
Now I've got a phone that my computer's won't recognise. Windows is saying that the USB device has malfunctioned. Is there any way I can fix this without having to shell out for another JTAG repair?
When I turn on the phone I get that A....!....A looking symbol on my screen. Recovery mode does the same thing.
I can get to Download mode, but again my PC can't recognise it.
Any ideas?
try reinstalling the drivers.. That may work..

Yes, you can uninstall kies and install it again. It worked for some users.. Make sure kies is off when flashing a new firmware..

Odin the god of flashing is being a pain in my ass!
All I want is for my GS2 to be rooted and working - I still don't get how it's failed
Kies is still uninstalling...

I can get to Download mode. Or am I missing something?
As far as I'm aware, the JIG will reset my binary counter and take me to DL mode - isn't that what Vol Down + Power + Home does?
with a JIG would my phone be more likely recognised by my PC's?
Thanks for all the reply's too by the way guys!
Okay, so I removed and reinstalled Kies - No luck
Download Mode is still showing Current Binary as Samsung Official though, so at least I can have it warranty repaired if need be.
I'm just finding it really hard to believe that it's bricked again, I've flashed heaps of ROM's to this phone without any issues. I just don't see how I could have two problems so close together.
Any other ideas?
You may find an answer within this thread > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1382838
I had an i9000 jtaged a while back and what i noticed was that when it came back from the shop it didnt have recovery mode at all. What I had to do was flash a couple of stock ROMs to get stock recovery back so I could Root it again. It took several atempts and fails too.Not having any type of recovery at the time of a flash might be what has caused the problem.Quite possible that if thats the case you will need another jtag
One thing you could try thats worked for me in the past is boot to download, plug in your phone and open Odin last.Sometimes its works.

Thanks, gave that a go and it didn't work. Tried it about 5-6 times
Is there a specific driver that can be used to allow Odin to see my phone? I've tried all that Kies has to offer and it's still coming up as unrecognisable - Windows is seeing a USB Mass Storage controller and a Bluetooth Peripheral Device, but it's unable to locate or install any drivers since the failed Flash.
I also tried the other linked thread. This didn't work either
I only spent $180 on a JTAG repair yesterday - Should've just bought my own RIFF box so that I could do it myself.

If you have access to a window xp computer give it a try, I had this issue with my captivate and my windows 7 machine wouldn't work but my old xp computer did.
An obvious and well known issue... Did you end process tree of both Kies processes in your PC's task manager?
Sorry if you have, it is all I can think of at the moment.
Sounds like it's time for you to give up flashing ROM's. Clearly someone up there doesn't like it. If your computer doesn't recognise it at all then its a faulty USB cable. So maybe that get that replaced before you demand Samsung fix your mistakes again.

Hi,
I'm using more than one cable. They seemed to both work fine too until the failed flash.
I didn't get Samsung to fix it, I took it to a mobile repair shop, I didn't demand anyone do anything either - I paid royally to have it fixed and would prefer to fix it myself than be charged again.
@jhernand1102 - I'll give this a shot now, fingers crossed!
Hi,
I'm having problems with Odin 1.85 crashing all the time when i press start, i disabled Kies, still crashes, i'm running windows 7 Home premium on a brand new laptop, phones only a month old. i cant find similar problems around the threads here, is this just happening to me, or does anyone else have this issue? i'm pulling my hair out
Error message, or just instant crash?
Presume you've disabled the Kies system tray app?
What are you trying to flash?
i get a windows error msg saying "Odin has stopped working and needs to shutdown" the second i hit the start button, yes ive disabled kies also, XWKI8
Download a new version .
jje
Can only suggest uninstalling Odin and trying another version.. I'm also on 1.85, but used 1.3 for nearly a year without problems.
i tried that too, just downloaded Odin 1.3 and i still get the same error msg
One Odin or PC are the problem .
Two its the file and or the way you are using Odin that is the problem .
As it happens when you press start and you have replaced Odin my initial guess is its the file or how you put it in Odin .
method is open Odin put file to correct location
boot phone to download mode
connect SAMSUNG usb cable only .
jje
I'm using original samsung usb cable, i put the insecure kernel TAR file into PDA slot in odin, im doing everything by the book, ive watched countless versions on YT, and it still crashes, must try it on another laptop,Q. will i have to download Kies to the other laptop? or can i download drivers from another source?
never had a similar issue and ive been flashing for a long time now
try with odin 1.3, are you running it as admin?
also make sure you dont have kies running in the background
must just be me, or else ive got a dodgy insecure kernel or something, ive tried 1.3 too, must be some conflict somewhere, kies isnt running either

Try this stop all running tasks via task manger which you do not need running while your flash your fone. If you dont know which files or apps to stop well disable any firewalls, antivirus, any other device using USB ports. As a rule!
Now run odin as administrator and follow outline help on how to flash your file/files..
PS: ARE You sure its odin and not your PC?

Have you checked your antivirus/firewall settings to see if that is blocking it?
Also You do have Odin folder on the C drive, not in program files? Open the Odin folder and you should see the app. Right click on odin and go to program/properties/compatibility. Is any of the boxes got a tick mark on them? (should only be in privilege Level if any)
yeah i tried what you said, still no joy, must be my PC, i just bought it last week though.I dont get it! could it be a problem with my tar file?

i used an lg cable too, same result. installed kies on my sisters laptop for the drivers, started odin, and got the same result, i think its a problem with the phone or else my insecure kernel tar file, its not a windows 7 or XP issue, cause ive tried it on both with the exact same outcome, could it be carrier blocked or locked or a dodgy app in my phone causing this? its seriously taking up too much of my time, but im no quitter.im gonna root this phone one way or the other
Download another file and try. if samething more likely its your fone...
Hi guys,
I have a problem that's fairly common but I can't get it right
I can't install new drivers for my SGS2, my pc/laptop don't recognize it anymore.
I have flashed an ICS rom before so I also tried the Nexus S drivers, no success.
I have tried to work with Android SDK manager but since my laptop can't find my phone, it won't find it as an adb device.
I managed to get back on 2.3.3 via CWM manager but my USB jig also doesn't work anymore.
I have tried everything regarding Kies and new drivers so I'm pretty much out of hope... Anyone with suggestions?
You could use mobile odin, also if you flash back to ics you can reset counter with triangleaway and then flash back to gb

Problem is that I can't flash back the old bootloader..
I think the logical step would be to try another PC, given you've tried everything else & nothing has worked.
You could also maybe try Heimdall (search for it on here).
Also, if you haven't tried different USB cables (in particular the one that came with the phone), give that a shot. Also make sure you're connecting the phone to a powered/mainboard USB port & not a hub port. Also, try toggling USB debugging in your phone settings.
That's about all I got. Try these things if you haven't already, but definitely try another PC.

I have tried different ports with different cables, different pc also won't install the drivers.
Usb debugging on/off doesn't work either.
Going to try heimdall today but it has something to do with my phone since I flashed so many files before with my pc and with my laptop.
Will post after I tried.
Yeah it sounds like a phone issue given you have been able to flash firmware with that PC previously. Good luck with Heimdall, fingers crossed for you.

Nope, heimdall can't recognize my phone either.
Running out of ideas here.
I guess there isn't an option to flash the old bootloader other than Odin huh?
Unfortunately Mobile Odin can't flash bootloaders yet, so Odin (and probably Heimdall) are your only options. Either way you're going to need USB.

My phone doesn't connect at all.
I have tried uninstalling everything including drivers and such via USBDeview.
The problem lies with the phone itself I think, not my pc.
I think I have found the problem.
I think my USB port from my phone is broken.
I will try to reset my binary counter with Triangleaway, then flash back original firmware without root and then send it for repair to the Vodafone shop!
Hope this works

Do you think it has to do with the bootloader? Or might the usb port be broken as well?

Yeah I think that it has to do with the bootloader, but a broken usb port is also a common problem.
I still have warranty so I will just let Vodafone repair it.
If my pc still doesn't recognize it after that, then I'm screwed.

Yes i tried all that with no luck i just cant get my phone connected to my laptoo if i could I

Check for Windoze updates if you're unable to get your PC & phone to recognise each other after trying the obvious (different USB ports, different cables, different versions of Odin, making sure Kies/its processes aren't running in Task Manager on PC. Try *all* of these).
This has solved the issue for a few people over the last week or so. Failing that, uninstall Kies from your PC, reboot, redownload it, reinstall it, reboot & try again.
If that doesn't work, try a different PC.

This method not required to connect your mobile to PC.
Just need external sdcard and ics based recovery
If you are ics recovery version , we can come from this issue.
1, download any ics ROM ( stock based ) and copy to your external sdcard.
2, root the mobile using this way
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1501719
[GUIDE] ROOT/UNROOT Stock ICS Firmware without flashing unsecure kernel
3, as per the above guide once you flashed cwm.zip , you will get cwm based recovery screen.
4, wipe system and cache
5, install the custom ROM from external sdcard
I believe this method will work for you.
All the best

I believe it won't since he bricked his device and can't even start the phone.
Do what MistahBungle said + make sure that you install Kies first so that you have the proper drivers for Odin.
i have tried this methed. copied all the files on to the sd card, inserted back into the phone put into recovery but would not read external sd card only internal comes up????
That's nice.
Now have you tried the other suggestions that have been made ? If your phone & PC can't/won't recognise each other, you need to fix that first. Forget about CW not working. It's not relevant. You're not going to fix this without an Odin flash and making that happen should be your focus/priority.

I'm having the same issue today, i flashed the siyah kernel beta and now recovery doesn't work and phone stays on Samsung logo.
I can get into download mode but pc says unrecognised device . It was working fine a few days earlier.
Unfortunately my Samsung USB cable appears to have vanished too but I don't see why my other cable shouldn't work as long as it supports data? Maybe the cable is the issue though??
Might be. Try the (many) suggestions on the first page. Any one of those could be/resolve the problem. In addition to those suggestions, you can also try uninstalling Kies on your PC, rebooting, re-downloading it, reinstalling it, rebooting & then seeing if your PC & phone recognise each other.
But definitely try those other suggestions first.

Hi
So, I have a samsung galaxy ace, which I haven't used for a while now. I decided its time to sell it. Problem is I flashed a custom rom (cyanogenMod 9) on it back then and it is also rooted. Before I sell it I need to unroot it and flash the stock rom back on. (Phone is working fine and is bootable)
So far I have unrooted it. As for flashing the stock rom, I'm having issues.
I have downloaded various versions of Odin (4.38, 4.34, 1.87), but none of them seem to detect the phone on my PC. I have downloaded the usb drivers and my PC itself seems to detect that its connected, but not Odin. I have Kies installed and have made sure it is not running through task manager.
So, can anyone PEASE help me with this. I'm not too familiar with Odin either, so I don't want to accidentally brick my phone.

You need to use Odin 3.07 newer version WON'T work.

Yes and Yes
Might be worth pointing out that I am running Windows 8 on my PC.
And my phone has cyanogenMod 7 not 9.
Also, I have just started receiving an error message when connecting the phone. It will charge it fine through the usb cable, but when in download mode it started giving the error message: USB device not recognised.

Try reinstalling the drivers. Download Android SDK and install the "Google USB drivers" package.

I had this problem too the first time i tested Odin to see if it would detect my device. Make sure you're using a main USB port on the back of your computer, not any on the front/sides/ monitor etc. You might have to remove the USB and insert it a couple of times before it detects your device then it should install the required drivers allowing the device to be detected. I also did not use Kies for the drivers but downloaded a standalone installation package that you can find by searching in the forums.

If windows is showing not recognise error in one port, it will most probably show it always like this
Try different port and reinstalling drivers with phone connected helps
And many times, drivers have to be installed many times
