Running stock OS w/ root and amon_ra. Been rock solid for 1.5 months+ at this point and today had 2 random force closes of google framework(one about 2 minutes after the first time was cleared). I rebooted and hasn't happened in a few hours. This was during a call. Anyone else experienced this?
Oh and one of my apps just vanished off the phone (droid forums). for whatever reason it always installs on the sdcard, which annoys me as i never asked it to. reinstalled and its right back on sd with all settings intact. can't find any other files that are gone from that partition though.

Brief history...originally coming from stock froyo OTA...flashed CWM (3/30 fix)...rooted...nandroid BU...TiBU...GIANT leap of faith (virgin rom flash) to Comm Rom 1.2. I did not wipe data, but I did wipe cache and dalvik. I was running Launcher Pro and had a clock widget, along with Pandora and Winamp on my home screens. Things were running fairly smooth, but every now and then, some odd things would happen. On two occasions, when my battery was low (below 35% or so) and I plugged the phone in (AC charger), after a couple of hours, the battery would only show around 45% (basically much lower than it should have been after charging that long). As it turned out, it was "stuck" and a reboot fixed it. Sorry, I'm new to this, and I don't know how to grab logs yet, otherwise I would have, because I know that my ramblings won't do much to help the issues. Anywho...
Then I came to realize that I needed an app that was no longer installed (memo pad...which got killed in the debloating process), and I stumbled on the new release of EF and there were flashable stock apps (memo pad included) in that thread. Curiosity got the best of me and I flashed it...after which my clock and music widgets vanished (from the home screens and from the widget selection dialog). Then I flashed EF (3.5.1) but Launcher Pro didn't play nicely with it, and there were a few other odd things happening...so...I bit the bullet...wiped data, cache, dalvik, and reflashed Comm Rom 1.2 (via 1.0) and got everything (almost) back to normal. This time I did not use Launcher Pro, and I set up my home screens just like before. I then flashed the TSM Market app fix, and poof, gone again.
What gives?
p.s. after the full wipe, I haven't seen the battery thing happen yet, but I'll keep an eye on it.
**edit** today I decided to let the battery fully drain and do a full charge. after 4.5 hours on a car charger (big mistake in the first place), it was showing 37%. I rebooted and suddenly it was up to 48%. That was at 8 pm. Just checked it again, and it's up to 97%. Turned the phone on, and there were no user apps in the app drawer. Went to market (, to market...) and everything is there. Exited back to home and Google search widget was gone (but that one is easy to replace...just odd that it would disappear like that).
**edit** just checked (12:15 am)...fully charged. unplugged phone and screen went black and unresponsive. eventually (after several long presses of the power button) it rebooted. phone only powered on for 5 minutes (display only on briefly to check battery level) and already at 96%.
This is an interesting one...are they showing up in the manage applications file?
If you are referring to the "menu --> manage apps" thing, then yes they are there. The clock was an actual widget that I downloaded from the market called "digital clock widget"and the pandora and winamp ones are built into those primary apps.

Three cheers for self inflicted frustration. Solved my problem. So stupid me just came to realize that widgets don't like to run from the sd card. I was playing around with tibu and moved [all] my apps to the sd card (prior to the situation described in the OP). All was fine because they were still loaded in memory, but when I rebooted to flash those apps...bingo.
I don't know why I didn't think of it sooner, but I feel really dumb now. As I suspected, the clock app doesn't even support being moved to the sd. I'll have to move the apps through app manager to avoid any [stupid] issues.
Once I finish working out my self inflicted problems, I'll get things how I want and bump up to 1.3 (unless 1.4 comes out).

Not sure if you have already completed the move of some of your apps back to internal memory (that would be some scary **** if I did LOL) but I saw that you had done TiBU before starting this - so I can presume you still have that...
There is a batch operation to move all user apps to SD card or to Internal memory. As it goes with all teh batch operations, you get to pick and choose what to move prior to starting the batch, which could save you some considerable time in doing so...
Yeah, I had batched them all to the sd card the first time. I batched them back to the phone, but now I have to check them one by one in app manager to see which ones natively support it.

A little background--I'm not a newbie and have been running custom roms on my Fascinate for many months (and my Droid before it), but I'm also not an expert or programmer. OK, with that out of the way, here's the issue. When JT came out with the first version of CM7 I switched to it from the Froyo CommRom. Since CM7 had a lot of issues in the early days, I carefully followed this sticky and returned to CommRom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1124391
I've since had a pattern of getting severe force closes, to the point that the phone become non-functional, after several days of everything working fine. This has happened with CommRom, Evil Fascinate, CM7, and currently JT's Vanilla Gingerbread. I've gone back to stock many times, have cleared everything (including data), have run the ext4 formatter, have tried different radios (currently on EC09), and have tried different roms. In each case everything runs wonderfully for 2-4 days, then FC's begin. I use Titanium Backup Pro to restore things, but have been doing so without restoring data, since some say that causes FC's. I've also unchecked the options to have Google back up data, since some say that causes FC's.
I'm out of ideas and am getting tired of clearing data and starting over every few days. I suppose I could restore things to stock and see how that runs, but that might be too painful to survive. Anyone have any other ideas?
You mentioned that you restore apps with Titanium. Do you restore only downloaded apps, or system apps as well? Different ROMS often have different versions of system apps, which can cause problems when restoring.
I'd like to see this topic explored a bit deeper. My girlfriend and I both have Fascinates as well, and each of us sees significant force-close rates...not to the point where the phone doesn't function...but 5-10 per day.
Is this simply a chronic fascinate problem on the newer ROMS (we've used MIUI and Vanilla GB).
Have you tried going 4 days without any restore of any kind?
Try a fresh install from atlas/pit/ed05 and go with that for 4 days... No restores.
Probably not the answer you want, but it sounds like your backups contain corrupt data.

no its not a fascinate problem, its more likely user error... you must be installing apps & data with tibu. when jumping roms, only restore app's only. Also another thing to try is, boot into cwm, wipe cache, dalvik, and fix permissions.
Fwiw I very seldom ever get a FC...
I've been following the same pattern of behavior with the switching of ROMs and backing up with Titanium by restoring data and apps. My Fascinate picked up a number of bad habits along the way: phantom back button and keyboard button pressing, screen waking back up after I shut it off, and some force closes but nothing like some are reporting here.
I recently switched to PWGB which wipes all data. I used Titanium to restore contacts and text messages only and re-downloaded all the apps from the market.
Since the wipe everything has been smooth and error free.

you can use titanium to restore apps, long as you install app only.... do not install app+ data, thats where you run into problems.
I am experiencing this same issue. I first upgraded to CM7 nightlies back around August and that seemed to be the source of the issue. Each time it occurred, I would wipe data and it would disappear for several days or weeks. I then switched to jt's Vanilla GB, and had the same issue. Now I am on CM7.1 and am continuing to have the same problem. Wiping data seems to fix the problem, but it consistently returns after several days.
I did have some success with disabling sync and clearing data for the Contacts Storage and Google Framework applications, which seemed to stop the force-closing temporarily, but they did ultimately return. This only seemed to work for me once.

download disk usage from the market and check to see how full your /datadata folder is. I bet its full. there is a thread on rootzwiki about. you can either delete some apps or jt has a tweak to fix the issue.

I agree with this. Last summer I ran into a series of similar issues (fc and what not) on several roms. What I learned for myself is i never restore ANYTHING. What I do use tho is APP LIST BACKUP which is a very convenient and fast way to download apps fresh from the market. I currently enjoy a fc free phone

Hi all. New to the forums...watched the degrading vid before signing up even and am somewhat newby with phones. I've scoured this site, the motorola support site...which is apparently down til next week now...and a few other sites I came across via pages of google searching. I cannot find the answer other than doing a factory reset...which I really do not want to do as I have a LOT of apps and info of my phone. It should all be backed up via motoblur and the lookout app's backup. But I have months worth of scheduling info in there which will take me more hours to reenter...I reeeeeally don't want to if I don't have to.
Problem: My Atrix 4g is caught in a bootloop. While this is a somewhat common problem, mine seems to be a little different. I'll point form details below and will greatly appreciate any help I get. If you need any more info, please let me know.
-caught in a boot loop. It boots regularly, but reboots about every 2 minutes. There is a good 30-45 seconds where I can access apps etc. However, I don't think that the phone completely finishes its boot cycle before rebooting.
-Occasionally...and I believe ONLY after I reboot via the down volume/power button method...the phone will stay on long enough to receive notifications from the web. Facebook notifications etc etc. Most of the time it doesn't.
-If I had to guess, it's trying to boot some app near the end of its boot cycle that it doesn't like. And I'm assuming it just doesn't like this app's latest update as I've never had this problem before.
-Prior to rebooting via volume/power button, I was getting an error message which I wrote down...and have since accidentally erased. It was something along the lines of "system process failed" and I then had the option of force close or wait.
-Every 3 seconds or so, my notification light flashes purple. It typically shows green during startup, red for notifications...I've never seen purple before.
-I downloaded almost every app I could over the last 10 days of 10, 10c apps from the market.
-I haven't opened most of the apps, and haven't had any problems with any apps that I have opened
-Most of my apps are set to auto-update. Therefore, I don't know which app update could be the problem...assuming this is the problem
-I'm in the process of removing my apps 1 at a time every 2 minutes or so...as I get a chance during the final stages of the phone's rebooting. So far, 10 apps in and no success. Only another 200 apps or so to go. ugh...
Any ideas? help? booze?
Thanks in advance.
How about wiping the cache and Dalvik cache? This will not affect or uninstall any of your apps or personal info.

Thanks for the advice and quick response. I don't seem to be able to clear the dalvik cache without rooting the phone...is this correct? Went thru the market for dalvik cache cleaning apps and they all require root. My phone isn't rooted.
ok if your not rooted does this mean your on a stock rom? is it possible one of these 200+ apps are a virus or malicious? root your phone use titanium backup to backup all your apps and factory reset or go try and get a replacement and keep your sd wich will have the backup
I had a boot loop problem too once. Turned out to be a defective SD card. removed it and it booted. It could not be read by any PC either so it was definitely dead.
Hello!
Had CM 10.2 latest stable version up and running, in the process of downloading all my apps and restoring some stuff from titan back up. A few things like message/phone contacts said it would require a reboot to show the changes, so I rebooted and got the error
"Unfortunately The Process Com.android.phone Has Stopped"
at the lock screen, wifi on but no phone signal. If I got the chance to hit "ok", it would close and reboot, in a non-stop loop. So common sense told me to do a wipe from recovery and reboot, so I'm back to square one with all my apps and backups.
Some google-fu told me that using titan back up on some "system" backups will cause this loop, and that was the only back up that suggested a reboot, so I have to assume it was that. I never saw this mentioned anywhere during the process, just wondering if there is a way around it? Right now I have no numbers saved or my old conversations, mostly I just want my contacts as anyone can understand. Open to any suggestions!
Google backs up everything if you let it, that's the best and fastest way.
Don't restore system apps or data.
It's better to not restore anything at all, unless you're really lazy and must.

All,
I am running rooted stock 20s debloated on my H932 which is activated on Cricket. In the last couple days my Settings app keeps force closing and there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it. This started after I plugged in ear buds and attempted to activate Quad DAC. The phone froze and I had to restart it. Settings will now force close no matter what part of Settings I'm in. Typically I can go in change a setting, but within a few seconds (sometimes before I can make a change and sometimes after) Settings force closes.
Based on some posts I've read in various places I've done the following:
*cleared Settings data (not reset permissions)
*cleared dalvik & cache in TWRP
*deactivated & deleted non-OEM G8 dark theme and rebooted
*deleted apps installed around the time this started happening and rebooted
*wiped dalvik & cache and dirty reflashed stock 20s debloated.
None of this has solved the problem. I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem and found a solution or has a clue that about what might be causing it. I haven't touched any apps updated by Playstore, but am wondering if it's rolled out an update that might cause this.
Feedback welcomed.

UPDATE:
I've not been able to figure this out. Starting from scratch installing apps one by one and could find no direct correlation. It doesn't begin happening after a specific app, but must be related to some combination of apps at work. I noticed one time it happened right after adding a Google account which I quickly deleted. That helped for about 30 min and then it was back.
The only thing that seems to be consistent in letting me know the problem is about to start is that in settings when I click on Apps & Notifications, it tells me I have 0 apps installed. When I click on Apps it shows all my apps (about 90). As soon as I exit the list and sometimes before Settings starts force closing.
I departed stock for Havoc for a bit and then came back to stock and the problem came back. The good news is I've now moved on to COSP which seems super solid and smooth. I may come back to stock when stock Pie comes out for the H932, but that's only if COSP develops issues.
I added this update in case anyone else stumbles across this thread with a similar issue. I haven't found an answer.

I had a similar problem but it was when I was trying to use any option from within setting and it was caused by the google camera app, probably because I had 3 different versions on my phone lol!
I was using the LG camera app & one of the modded Gcams with night sight when I was on stock. If I go back to stock I'll have to check and see if that was the problem.
Thanks
