Anyone else having this problem? It'll charge just fine in the wall, but it won't charge plugged into the computer. Tried different computers and different USB cables...same issue. Tried safe mode...same issue. Pretty frustrating. Just got the phone yesterday.

A lot of laptops don't put a lot of power through the USB ports. Might want to check the power settings.

You haven't installed the drivers (included with HTC Sync), have you?
No, I haven't installed the drivers. Do I need to? I've had no problems charging any of my other phones with the computer, including a blackberry, Droid x, thunderbolt, and Samsung charge.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using XDA
I should also mention that I am able to open the files on the sd card via the computer, so everything's working fine except for the actual charge. The lightning bolt shows up and everything...it is just not charging. Pretty strange.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using XDA
definitely install the drivers. I can get a good charge out of my laptop with the screen off on the rezound and everything battery monitor reports over 400mA.
Just got a replacement phone...turns out it was the phone. This one charges fine and no software installed on the computer. Thanks all for your time.

Can anyone tell me what may be the problem. My battery is constantly draining all of a sudden even when charging(usb). I run AOKP JB but this has never been an issue before when running this rom. I reverted back to factory and its still draining. Phone is also very hot while on charger.
Edit:
Just pulled the battery at 49% and put it back in. Now it reads 24%
Battery may be goin bad. Usb cord may be bad. Micro usb port of ur phone may be bad, dirty etc. So trouble shoot it.
Does the wall charger charge ur phone ? Does another battery (same kind that is) charge or not charge ? Does that usb charge another phone ? Try a different cord. . . Etc. Etc.
Keep us posted.

Its a combination of loose port and loose connector in the cable. Replace cable for temporary cure.

Or a kernel or config problem.
Download and flash again.
Try other ROM.
I already have this issue. Changing kernel did the job for me.

R u using a non samsung wall charger ?? If yes...then the Output voltage/amps may be more than 5.0V === 0.7A, which would trigger the error message.

I haven't been using my evo v because everytime I try to charge it, it says its charging but the battery level drops. Right now its on cm10.1 with an overclocked kernel but it would do this to me on the ruu as well. Any ideas? (I'll probably get a new battery to see if that helps soon)
Try pluging it in without the battery. If it works fine, your battery is dead

Your cable might be broken. Mine had some faulty wires after some time and it only pumped 20-40 miliamps while charging. So it barely maintained the battery level. If I twisted the cable in a certain way it charged normally.
So maybe try another cable before buying a new battery.

Then it's a hardware problem

Laza Zcell 3460mah HTC Evo 3D Extended Battery on amazon
This battery works great! its cheap with the right rom can last 4-5 days im on harmonia and it doesnt make the phone bulky i think it makes the grip better. only con to me i noticed that if i dont let the batery die completely it wont last long for example if i charge it at 40% i get 1 and a half maybe 2 if i charge after it dies completely it last 4 days, it also takes along time to charge completely. Also make sure your using a htc cord i used a blackberry cord and it never charged my phone. i hope this helps!
You could try using someones battery just to see what happens. If the phone works, buy new battery and if the same thing happens there is something wrong with the motherboard. Just google which phones are battery compliant with yours and hope someone you know has that phone

wtf are u talking about, evo does not work without battery.
problems with discharging while charging are:
-smth is eating too much juice - kill it;
-bad cable;
-bad charger;
-bad charging unit in phone (thats a problem).
try to download battery widget pro, charging current should be up to 600 mA.
try changing cables or charger
Hey I was wondering what type of charging cable the evo v uses? 1000mah 900mah the cable that cones with phone.

Some of the 3vos will run without the battery. One of the older rooting methods required you to pull the battery and start an ruu then disconnect charger causing a brick state. The newer 3vos will not work without a battery though.

I had same problem with charging after downgrading hboot from 1.53. to 1.49.007, but only with charging from USB (pc), with the same cable if it was adapter charging was ok.
So i upgraded hboot back to version 1.53. and its ok for now, but on 1.53. you cant run cm10 roms i think.
Maybe this can help you..
It's been a few months I'm using the GS3. Everything was working fine.
Suddenly, yesterday, this fantastic quad-core beast refused to charge! I made so many attempts but all in vain :crying: :
Tried a different charger.
Tried a different USB Cable.
Tried charging it via PC/Laptop.
Tried removing the battery, cooling everything down and then charging again.
Blew inside the USB port.
Rebooted several times.
Done a factory reset (I know it wasn't a thing to be done.. but... ).
What is the problem?! I've never dropped it or something like that! It's too important for me to have a phone!
Won't send it to Samsung ever. I think people at XDA have more brains.
The only connection to the internet at my home is my S3's GPRS. Wait a minute... if S3 isn't charging how am I posting and starting this thread?
It charges. ONLY 15% in 3 hours when it's Switched OFF and it's charged using Laptop/PC ONLY.
If I try to charge it using wall charger, it never charges! It never charged even before. Whenever my S3 was completely out of battery, I HAD TO use the PC ONLY to charge. It won't ever charge using a wall charger. I mean after it's charged a little bit after using the PC, I could always use the wall charger but FIRST, ONLY PC.
Now, When it charges about 15%, then, today, it DOESN'T CHARGE AT ALL. It means if you Switch it ON, boom! You won't ever be able to charge, no matter if you're using it, no matter if it's connected to a wall/PC as the charger, it always keeps on only "draining". To charge I HAVE TO switch it OFF.
PLEASE HELP! I CAN'T LIVE LIKE THIS!
Note: Phone isn't rooted.
SOLUTION WITH ROOT : Flash Boeffla Kernel. DONE! The problem is Galaxy S3's Stock Kernel! The phone charges at a very good speed!
SOLUTION WITHOUT ROOT : Buy the Capdase USB cable (HCBB00-SM01) from or Amazon or eBay.
We don't have locked boot loaders. So if you do, you're in the wrong forum. Only the Verizon S3 has locked boot loaders.

There are another hundred identical threads, likely causes are faulty charger, lead or charging circuit inside phone. If you are on custom rom/kernel then flash back to stock.
Did you try the app charging current? It shows how many mA are coming through

Judged on your previous posts you need to find out what phone you actually have .
Suggest you flash a stock rom and test .

Here are the Maximum Values in the Galaxy Charging Current app-
Samsung Charger+HTC Wire=100
Sony Charger+HTC Wire=100
Samsung Charger+Samsung Wire=200
Sony Charger+Samsung Wire=200
Samsung Charger+Sony Wire=900
Sony Charger+Sony Wire=1000
The problem is, the Sony wire I've used isn't mine. So I can't keep that with me. I have the Samsung Charger, HTC & Samsung Wires.
Do you recommend to buy a new wire? It'd be great if you'd suggest me which one

Finally I solved it!
The problem with all the Galaxy S3's is the USB WIRE. Samsung's data cables are 30AWG wires (the lower the number, the better speed). Our phones need at least 26AWG wires to charge who good speeds. Now, the more thin is the wire, the more is it's resistance. If you notice the difference between Samsung and Sony Ericsson wires, the Sony ones are really fat in front of Samsung. I used the Galaxy Charging Current Lite app to test various USB Wires and Sony Ericsson's wire was the best giving the Max value of 1000 (Samsung gave 500). But Sony doesn't sell wires, we need to buy a Car Charger/Adapter with it and pay a big amount... Again a problem!
Solution: I bought a wire from www.stuffcool.com (Capdase USB cable (HCBB00-SM01) and I was shocked to see my mobile always around 80-90% charged! I recommend everyone to buy USB Wires for their phones from www.stuffcool.com and charge their mobile faster!!! They're thick wires, they don't break and they don't eat up the current! Samsung USB Wire users will definitely understand the difference in those wires
I bought it from stuffcool.com , however, it's available on eBay and Amazon too.

Unfortunatly, that is apparently not my problem, though the symptoms are the same. My girlfriend's SGS 3 will not charge, despite showing a charge indicator on the battery symbol.
Chargers are good, as my sgs 3 shows 460 max when on my laptop, and 900 on wall charger using the Galaxy Charging Current Lite app. (rooted, Sentinel ROM) My girlfriend's SGS 3 is showing 0 using same app, USB cord and wall charger. Laptop and wall charger show the same: 0. Ideas?
She's stock ICS, unrooted. Is this a software or hardware issue?

I am having the same issue. It shows a charging icon but the battery continues to drain. I downloaded the Galaxy Charging Current Lite application and it doesn't show anything.
Does anyone know if this is a component that can be fixed?
I bricked my phone, sent it in... got it back and now it doesn't charge. I have external batteries, so I'm not totally screwed but, I used to be to able to download torrents all night and the phone would charge, not the case anymore. Not blaming it on the bricking or the dudes that fixed it for me, it's all in the cables. I have 3 cables, all worked great before, now none of them work, except the samsung cable, but still won't charge while tethering, weakness, it's the cables... there's not an app out there that will help you
When I charge with a cord the power to the device will go in and out like the connection is loose at the contact. I'm using the HTC charger the phone came with.
I've found that if I apply pressure to the plug in the phone it never looses connection and if I jiggle it while in the outlet it goes between charging and not charging.... Any advice?
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
Could be the charger or the port or the outlet. Try another charger and outlet. If it's the port and you're under warranty return it.
Well I'm unlocked and s off.. can I return it if I undo everything?

I had this problem long before I s-offed or rooted, so I highly doubt it's that. The included HTC cable stopped working for me. It also doesn't work in any other device I have tried it with. I now use a Samsung cable (the kind that came included with the i9000) and it works fine. Try a different cable and see how that works.

I just found this out. The charger port on this phone is made up of 2 parts. One side will take the standard micro USB 2.0 cable. So if you are ever without the 3.0 you can use any regular cable to charge. If course it will be slower but at least you can charge it.
