USB game controller - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'v got a new original Samsung USB adapter. Everything works great, wirless mouse, card reader hub, and my old Logitech Attack 3 joystick. Well, the Tab recognize the stick but I dont know how to use it in games like NFS Hot Pursuit...
I didnt find any answer for that on the forum. I would like to know how can I play with my joystick

I think you have to manually configure it with the pad, someone mentioned it in one of the threads here.

NFS Hot Pursuit doesn't have any gamepad support, you're forced to use the accelerometer.

Thanks, guys. Seems to work fine with GTA III but only the stick is working, I cant config buttons.

[Q] gaming controller

i posted in the main forums Q&A then later realized that i should probably post it here since it relates to the galaxy tab....
does anyone know if you buy the usb adapter, if you can plug in a usb game controller and have it work with emulators? i want to get a decent gamepad for playing games...if anyone can help shed some light on this...
thanks in advance!
depends on the controller. You would need the custom rom for ps3 and xbox but the wii works fine. most PC gamepads work fine too with adapter.

I use a logitech dual action usb controller on a completely stock galaxy 10.1 and it works perfectly.

Wiimote + Wii Classic Controller works great.
SNES9x EX supports it natively. 90% of my tab usage time has been A Link to the Past.

PlayStation Controller with USB Adapter

Has anyone tried this? It would be cool if you could turn off the on-screen controls.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qx_XvUEUoP4
Edit:
I wonder if you can plug in a USB keyboard. Haven't seen anyone try that yet. I need to get an adapter an try it out.
I do know that you can buy a Bluetooth keyboard to use with the tablet that you might be able to map buttons to and use.
Also I do believe there is an App floating around that will allow you to Bluetooth the PS3 controller (or the Wii Remote) to your device to use with games.

I think honeycomb supports most usb controllers including ps3 and 360, I cant try it until I get an adapter though. Like is said above there are apps that let u use dualshock 3 via bluetooth, but I think they require root access.
Yes, you can use USB keyboard and mice. The Dual Shock 3 controller doesn't work (ironic, yes?). There is an app to use the DS3 and it requires root.
- Lisa (the one who did the video referenced above).
The ps3 controller is closed in as when you connect it with a pc... btw you can remove the on screen controls in the options...
Also... Lisa, I truly enjoy your very indepth reviews and previews of products...it is always your reviews that manage to go deeper than any review site I visit (eg. The usb port on the S) Glad to see u really are in depth if your on this site! I bought my hp TM2 because of you! Same with this really great tablet! Thanks!

Unfortunately the PS3 controller doesn't work. Sony's proprietary bluetooth is at it again. As you all know, Sony never likes to play well with other companies...and in this case, not even with their own devices. I ordered the logitech controller and an OTG USB cable which I'll try out today. I figure it'll work nicely and bluetooth would be even better. We'll see...
I have tried with a proper sony pad and can confirm it wont work via bluetooth or usb. it`ll connect to a rooted device but as the tablet isnt rooted yet it wont work.
I`ve talked to staff in a couple of Sony centres and they have said they have been told by sony reps that it will work with the controller soon.

Any update on whether the logitech controller works or not?
It works with the USB Adapter. Played my PS Certified Games just fine! It works on other games as well, but its hit or miss.

Yes, I use it with my emulators and it works fine. The controller itself leaves a little to be desired but with the OTG cable I bought and the logitech controller's usb dongle, i can now game a bit better on my tablet. I also bought the dock so that I could have the screen vertical.
You can use a mouse and a keyboard with usb.
I have plugged in the official wired Xbox360 pad and it works! The only problem is that the buttons are all mapped differently for the playstation certified games and there is no way of re-mapping them. For stuff like emulators where you can re-map the buttons it works amazingly well.
Has anyone tried using the PS3 DS controller ever since the PS Store came out? Just curious if it included some kind of software patch to allow the PS3 controller to work since Sony has stated that soon we will be able to use the PS3 controller. I just don't want to waste the money on the logitech controller just for the tablet when I have like 4 PS controllers lying around.

I Just tried and it doesn't work, all it does is flash the 4 red leds on the pad and that's it.
I think we need the Tablet rooted to get one working via usb
Damn! I'm probably going to try this when I get home from work and I have time to try pairing this to my tablet and then getting a refund if it doesn't work, unless someone wants to try it first. It says it doesn't require root, but the reviews are a bit iffy:

I'm leaving work early today (3:30 Eastern Standard) - I'll try to fit it in before my evening class.
Ok so after purchasing, no dice. The pairing was successful, but the server app still needs root to even start. I had no problems purchasing it because a have a bunch of android phones I should be able to use itwith. But as of now, the app doesnt work for the Tablet S. Would love to see rootcoming down the pike for this thing though...
Thanks for the update. I figured with the so/so reviews there was probably going to be an issue with the tablet s.

Game pads and controllers that work

This is a thread to collect a list of game pads and controllers that are known to work, to chat about them start a new thread in the right forum. Maybe this can be wiki'ed sometime.
If you have a controller/pad that works, post the following:
Game pad make/model
Connection method; like Bluetooth or USB
Does it work fully?
What did you have to do to get it working? E.g. paired it via Bluetooth.
For more detailed questions than the above, please start a new thread in Q&A or here as appropriate instead of pissing in this pool, thank you!
For software to test with, I suggest something that already works with the keyboard, like Muffin Knight( Free) or whatever the most common emulator is. Both should make a reasonable baseline. If you need to find an emulator and crap, use SEARCH or make a thread. This thread is more useful when game agnostic as possible, threads for specific games/controllers can spell out specific issues.

I have a Logitech Dual Analogue Controller that connects via USB and works perfectly. Nothing is needed to make it work at all, works with shadowgun, gta III partly (except in car, cant move forward!) and cordy
i have an icontrolpad that works perfectly with mame and the other emulators. Also works with any game that is icade compatible.

Do you have the model number for this controller? Logitech makes several controllers and I am looking to get one. Saw some bad reviews on the accuracy (analog joystick) on some of the Logitech controllers.

I have a wired xbox 360 controller (from my pc) which works perfectly on GTA 3.

this model is the g-uf13a model so far its been pretty spot on for pc and for the transformer
wireless xbox controller works flawlessly for some games but very buggy with GTA 3
I prayer there is hope.
Are there any bluetooth controllers that work? My Transformer isn't rooted and I don't own the dock so have no USB
Thanks
Start a thread for that please, thank you. Going by this list, you at least know the onlive should. If you find more that work via Bluetooth, please share here too .
Just got my PS3 controller to work with sixaxis android program via bluetooth.

I use a PS3 controller with the Sixaxis Controller program as well. Works perfectly on a Rooted Transformer with Emulators. My favorite right now is Majora's Mask on N64oid.
I have yet to try it on GTA3 or OnLive though. If OnLive works properly in my house, I may consider investing in their Universal Controller.
has anyone tried the ps3 controller with Modern Combat 3? If not, could they? That's really the only game I want to use a controller with, so I'm waiting to hear if it works before I go out and get one.
Thanks in advance.
Questions like that belong in a separate thread in Q&A or in (one of) the threads on MC3, not in a list of controllers that work with this tablet, thank you in subsequentessence .

Just a warning to anyone that might mistakenly get a Rumblepad 2 (which looks very similar) or Rumblepad 2 Wireless I can't get em to work with the transformer. =[
Rumblepad 2 works with my galaxy nexus. Is there any way to change key mapping in GTA III?
sixaxis program
Anyone getting the sixaxis program to work on an unrooted tf101, i got it paired with my ps3 controller but to map keys i want to use sixaxis controller program just wont run , even tho ics on the tf101 naitavely supports ps3 controllers do you still need to be unrooted??
Wii's wiimote also work like a charm on ICS using WiimoteController. I've tried two wiimotes at the same time to play N64oid and MAME4droid and no problems, just have to edit the input settings to map buttons to your like.

most usb controllers should work as long as USB HID drivers work correctly. the issue would be button assigning. now that you've mentioned this ill give it a try with my old gamepad.

I am currently planning to purchase a lapdock for my atrix this Aug 7 when I will hopefully get enough birthday money for this (just can't spend outside of budget right now). I am trying to find out whether it is possible to use an usb based controller for emulators. The reason why I want the USB based one is to save on cost and be able to use the same controller on my bluetooth-less laptop for the PS2 emulations.
to clarify, I do NOT have any usb controller right now so I am looking for two things,
Do usb controller works with lapdock?
if so, which controller comes recommended?
Bonus point if the controller is tiny and have all of the controls that a playstation controller have.
P.S.
If this is just impossible, I'll just go with the bluetooth Nyko Playpad,

PS2 Emulation? On an Atrix with lapdock?

Deafcyclist said:
no, PS2 emulation on my Toshiba Laptop. PS1 emulation on my atrix/lapdock. This is why I want a controller that I can switch between the two anytime I need to. Unfortunately, my toshiba laptop do not have bluetooth :crying:
If PS2 emulation on an atrix ever come to pass, I would love it! but I honestly doubt it. In the meantime, I want to be able to play basically everything from Playstation 1 and earlier games.

Wow, this is kind of eerie, and lucky for you at the same time. I just recently decided to buy a PS3 controller for me to use for FPSE on my Atrix using Sixaxis Controller app. It works perfectly, and it's connected using bluetooth. I use the PS3 controller even when my Atrix is mounted on my Lapdock, still using Sixaxis Controller. So, to answer your question, Get a PS3 controller, 'cause it'll work on your Atrix while using Lapdock. As a bonus, you can charge the PS3 controller via USB on the lapdock (which is what I do.) The best part is, it also works perfectly on a Windows PC using the DS3 tool. I use the same PS3 controller to play PS2 games on my PC. I can even help you out in setting it up if you go through with it. Hope this helps. And sorry if what I said is a little confusing. I just got excited 'cause I was wondering the same thing as you, just a few weeks back.

my logitech gamepad did not work, no sign of it on android, but i only tested it with hd dock and neutrino rom. im not on blur for now but maybe on the weekend ill test it with blur.
for those who have ps3 controller, is it OEM or third party? i was thinking of getting one but i have a wii and got classic pro which works great on n64oid, much better joystick sensitivity than wii64 with gamecube controller.

The PS3 controller connects to your phone via bluetooth. It's more convenient in my opinion, compared to hooking it up to your lapdock's USB port. I know it's not exactly what you're looking for, but i think it's a better solution. Your thoughts?

For the PS3 controller, it has to be a Genuine Sony Dualshock 3 or Sixaxis. Otherwise, you'll have a problem connecting it to Sixaxis controller, the app used to pair the controller to your phone. I haven't tried using a Wii controller, or any other controller for that matter. I decided to try the PS3 controller, and it works excellently for me.
I know the wiimote works just fine, i even have the gamepad connected with it, and use it for my snes games and whatnot. look up Wii Controller IME by Ryan Frawley in the store. =]

@abetsi
that was my concern all along, not being compatible with sixaxis. ill just wait until i really want one. not very much of a cellphone gamer. i have dslite and 3ds.
@Deafcyclist
it is possible ics has even more drivers, so i might test it later. as i recall to pair ps3 controller with sixaxis a PC is required, its through usb. i suppose it can be used like you want it.
edit: testing new jellybean alpha and my logitech gamepad works, both joystick and dpad. i have not tested any game yet but its good news native usb gamepad support.
Deafcyclist said:
I am okay with connecting to the atrix/lapdock with bluetooth, my main concern is whether I can connect a PS3 controller directly to my TOSHIBA LAPTOP (not the lapdock) via usb. I know that a PS3 controller have a mini-USB port for charging, but I'm not sure if this can be used to get the PS3 to connect via USB. If this is the case, then this controller may be perfect for me in pretty much every way except for it's size (I wanted some really tiny controller, heh)
el_venga, I wonder if CM9 have better USB support in general? I'm using Jokersax's CM9.

I'm pretty sure it'll connect to your laptop. I'm using mine on my MacBook Pro running Windows 7 via USB to play PS2 games and such. As long as you have the correct programs to run it, I'm confident that it'll work.

Games that works with OTG?

Just confirmed that an otg cable connected to a USB and a ps3 controller can be used on this tablet, particularly the Tab S 8.4 without root.
Was able to play Asphalt 8 perfectly with it. Any other games that are confirmed to work on this tablet? I was looking into purchasing the latest z modern combat but just wanted to see if others have tested it to work with OTG.
mc4 did support it.... i think mc5 will do as well
Mc5 does supports otg ds3 but fc alot .. You can search " controller support android game " for more information
And if you already have mc4 , will you test it with ds3 and tell me if it work perfectly or not ? Mine looks down automatically

PS3 OTG
Using 10.5 Tab S, USB OTG cord and a PS3 controller to play PS1 games very nicely with FPse. Root not needed, recognizes as native controller. Will not work with root and using Sixaxis to play wirelesly though, but passes the Sixaxis compatability tool though, and controllers mac added to match Tab S's mac as well
