just install apex launcher or nova launcher from the market if you want to get a bit more of an ics feel.

I just switched from a 2.1 ROM (BeHero I believe it was) to the Elelinux_Froyo_2.2_v1.5 ROM on my Hero. One thing I miss is the 2.1 dialer, you know the one where you could enter for example "2662" and it would find all contacts with the letters "anna" and/or with number containing 2662. I really liked that. Dialer One does the same thing, but it is very laggy and slow.
I want the one to the right:

First I thought it was Sence-specific, but after flashing the above ROM but with Sence included, I realised this was not the case.
Anyone know if this is possible?
Dialer one from market has T9. Froyo is AOSP and it has the default Google Dialer.
another suggestion nubdial
This question has been asked EXTREMELY many times AND it's in the wrong section...
Another suggestion is to post in the right place as this is not development... Lol sorry it just gets on peoples nerves so thought i'd jump in there before someone else does
Lol bummer seems i was too late
Haha...

i had the same problem as i was on elelinux froyo 1.4. i thought that dialer one and nubdial were just two ****ty piececes of software. than i flashed froydVillain and OMFG they both worked brilliantly, no lags, nothing... also everything was just so much better in FV.
i think you should try too.
Yep, i use dialer one and it works perfectly. Another app you might want to try (instead of stock android contacts) is phonebook 2.0. downloaded it y/day and its amazing, syncs facebook pics too. Also shows activity, such as calls, messages, facebook updates, lets you reply. Anyway its way better then stock android contact IMO.
These two apps made me feel a lot better about going to froyo without htc apps.
I'm soon getting a vibrant and since I've already seen an internationl galaxy s, I've gotten to like the way it handles contacts (swype left and right for sms, calling) and the widgets for social integration.
I've seen that most custom roms get rid of touchwiz, and I don't like the launcher since it looks iphonish (ugly ) but I wonder if custom roms keep the other stock stuff like the dialer, contacts, widgets, etc.
Could anyone clarify this for me please?
Yup some of them do.

with some roms there is a app they include called bloater. Thats all the stock items removed but can be reinstalled.

I think 99%, if not 100% of the roms use the stock samsung dialer and contacts.
That's great to hear (ok, read )! Thanks guys.
Then you're not losing much going to custom roms, going to try em as soon as I can.
I've been waiting for ICS for a while now and sinced it is released last march 13 I've heard so many bad feedbacks and bugs from stock LPQ and not even worth of flashing.
After several days many COOKED LPQ roms are out. Can anyone tell me whats the most Stable, bugfree or LESS bug LPQ COOKED ROM out there?
I don't know if it is THE most stable ROM, since i only tested two so far, but i really like the DarkyROM based on LPQ.
Very stable ROM, only issue i noticed so far is that Chrome is not working (have to deinstall the system app and then install over Market, works until reboot).

I think the general consensus will be to try them out yourself and see what you prefer and don't prefer. I'm wondering the same question myself as well, but I'm gonna experiment with a couple right now before deciding on a daily driver.

I would like to try every Custom ROM but problem is i have a hardtime downloading roms due to my slow internet connection..
By the way hope that you can provide some feedbacks regarding on what rom you are using rightnow.
Some says DarkyROM and Resurrection are among the widely used Custom ROM. Personally I use stock rom with 3rd party Launcher.
I will just wait for CM9 to become stable and move out from stock...

So the lockscreen issue and MMS are fixed on darkyROM?
hi
that was my question too. i read alot and when xxlpq were available i choose galaxy rom.
i installed galaxyrom lpq since 1 day and no fc's at all. it has also ota updates for lidroid pack and theme restore. deep sleep ok, battery ok but lets see after 3-4 cycles. no contacts editing fc, wifi and data ok, market ok- 3.4.7. restored and frozen some apps with titanium 4.8.4. sync ok for contacts, notes and calendar with phone explorer. its a rom close to stock and uses apex launcher. i now waiting for jkay work. only thing is that scrolling is not smooth as in gb roms.
Answer has to be non .
How can a firmware be issued and a perfect rom built in a few days with no testing .

Hi, after using my HTC Hero since it was launched I finally recieved an SGSII at work.
I really love the phone, and have been able to tweak most things to my likings, but the iPhone-wannabe-ish SMS thread viewer is definately not to my taste. No big issue, ofcourse, but I'm still posting about it in case some of you skilled Android-hackers/users have an easy solution. On my Hero I really loved the look of the SMS app in FroydVillain (Froyo) and Decked (GB). I'm honestly not sure, but I think they both ran stock unthemed SMS apps. Black baground, white text, clean interface without those silly bubbles. I've been trying to do a Google image search but haven't found out how the stock SMS app really looks in ICS so I don't know if the cartoonish iPhone-bubbles are from TW or AOSP.
I dont want some bloated and ugly SMS apps like Handscent or Go SMS that I've heard cause problems like duplicate sms-es.
Also, since the phone is my eployer's I want to avoid flashing/rooting it, so simply installing mms.apk from a different ROM is not possible afaik.
So, any suggestions? I guess I'm sort of hoping someone already compiled a binary/apk based on mms.apk that can easily be installed and used as the default messaging app.
Have just upgraded my SGSII to the latest stock samsung firmware and rooted it.
The only thing I dont like apart from the overloaded bloat is the dialler. When you press favourites they come up as pictures and I keep dialling them by mistake, prefer the old style names not pictures.
Can this be changed or could I flash a new dialler/logs/favourites?

I use exDialer from the play store instead of the stock dialer and I am quite happy with it. Perhaps worth a try.
