Is everyone using the stock SM launcher? I find that with Facebook and other widgets that these tend to drain your battery life.
For those who are awaiting ICS, i had a ICS rom on my HTC desire before purchasing the Xperia S and found the interface quite intuitive, especailly the new dial pad.
You can download from Play an ICS launcher which acts almost identical to the available ROM on the HTC desire, I have also played with the windows 7 laucher too with active tiles. Both are very good.
Anyone else have any other results with alternative launchers other than the stock one loaded?
I use Opera Mini when not using the stock browser. Runs quite nicely on the Xperia S.

Launcher, not browser
I was using Nova on ICS with my Nexus S and it was awesome so when the Xperia gets ICS I may go back to that but for now I am finding the standard launcher pretty good though I don't use the facebook widget and only have a few minimalistic text, clock, weather and calendar widgets so perhaps it lags with more.
I'm using the stock launcher as well. Have all ways used different launchers, but this Sony one is actually pretty nice.

For some reason the stock launcher is just too nice to remove

Hi folks,
Just wondering which launcher works best with the 10.1 G8. tried both ADW's and I kinda thought they don't seem optimised for tablet yet especially the EX version. Tried the VTL and didn't really like it, Go Launcher! last tried it on my desire and never really liked it. Any suggestions
Cheers
vtl launcher, in my opinion, is best for tablets. it allows the dock to set at the bottom of the screen and you can theme it with adw and launcher pro themes.
Y I also moved from "launcher pro" which i use on my phone to "vlt" for my 101.
Anyway I noticed a BIG difference in speed from the low res on my phone to the high res on my 101. The drawer especialy is MUCH slower at my 101 then on my phone (htc wildfire 320x240, just 500MHz CPU)
So im giving this thread a try to find something better in speed
Hoped for all those 3D Lauchers but actualy no good and woring one is out atm...
Regina is just portrait atm - SPB sucks - the only hope i got is the Vega 3D Laucher - but i didn't try this yet.
Thanks for your contribution guys but am gonna give this a shot http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=15957249#post15957249 Will let you know how I get on.
I'm currently using launcher pro, because it is solid and much better then the standard launcher. Ofcourse i do believe there are better ones. But launcher pro is just a nice avarage stable launcher.

I occasionally get application not responding issues in LauncherPro when setting up the icons after a boot. I think the issue is due to the fact that most apps I have have been moved to external storage (with my Force2SD), and it takes longer to fetch their icons. I just click once or twice on "Wait" and they show up eventually, but it's annoying. Maybe LauncherPro is doing something in the wrong thread. Maybe some icon caching would help.
This is just the icon caching. All users that use a SD card has this on the archos. But the launcher does determine how long this wait is. Currently i switched over to a new launcher called "go launcher". Unfortunately Google market wont let archos users download it. Search in the market for it, then go to their site and downlaod it from the developers. Its really different compared to other launchers but runs smooth and many customisations avaible.

I use Zeam launcher and love it, although it doesn't have so many crazy, fancy options, its praised to be the fastest Android launcher
lifehacker.com/5729485/zeam-is-the-fastest-android-launcher-weve-seen-yet
I was with ADW, which was great but i read a post which mentioned Go Launcher and it was much faster than ADW in every way, for example when loading after being killed. Also it has a System Persistent which was the best I've had so far, but ADW beats Go at Themes which i didn't really like on the Go Launcher.

I use adw
@OP It would be great if you could add a poll to this thread better view over the launchers
ADW Ex! It's nice on my Asus EeePad Slider and my Archos 70 IT.
All i don't like is the forced buttons on the left from the Archos ROM. It would be nice if i could hide them on the launcher.
Launcher pro suits my need..

I went for Go Launcher, because I really wanted categorization. Personally, I would have preferred something just like the Palm launcher, and that was the closest I could find.
on my 101it I use ADW Launche EX with ics theme and my custom framework RoTTeNinICE

ADW launcher or go launcher.
I don't like se launcher at all. The bottom bar is far too fat and it has no customizability
Mostly agreed, but i like the widget overview
it would be adw but you cant add the arc photo widget. so i think it be the se 2.3.4

launcher pro because
1) I like the scrolling calendar and facebook widgets (paid version only)
2) I like the ability to hide certain apps from the app folder
3) its very stable for me
I'm interested to see what features other launches have over it though as development on launcher pro seems to have slowed somewhat.
My faves are stock 2.3.4 and LP.
However i prefer LP for all it's themed HD icons and tweaks available.
Is there a way to theme icons for stock 2.3.4 ?
+1
I really can't live without the scrolling calendar i LPP. I've tried another scrolling calendar that worked on stock SE 2.3.4. But it was to ugly...
SE Stock have two major features I miss...
- 4x4 icons (I want 5x4)
- Can't customize shortcuts

GO launcher has a scrollable calendar i think with smooth page transitions so i liked that when i used a calendar.
Also, it has many tweaks to get it how you want, maybe an alternative to LP as it now seems that its a pretty dominant launcher
Fave Home Launcher
I've been using SPB Shell 3D for almost a year now so I would say its almost my perfect choice but I love the one from stock 2.3.4 too.
Currently, I use Launcher 7.
nemus launcher for me !
stock se 2.3 home and Nemus Launcher, because of speed and simplicity
Defo Sony 2.3.4 stock launcher. Looks good, simple to use, and really fast!

Curious to know what people are running on their Galaxy Tab's.
What is the smoothest? It seems stock has a bit of jitternes, I'm running overcome rom on my fiances tab and just want to give her one that would be the smoothest all around.
So what do you have?
Go Launcher Ex
Go Launcher Ex HD
Nova
ADW
etc....
i prefer go launcher hd.
On ICS i've gotta go with APEX Launcher.
Does everything nova does and is free!
I'm running in Overcome with ADW Launcher and it's very, very fast and smooth.
This one is really good. I don't tried others but if someone has already tested 2 or 3 launcher his opinion will be interresting.
thanks.
I'm special - I'm running Touchwiz
Staying with Adw Ex even with ICS as I like having Dock Bar

GO launcher HD
GO Launcher HD, definately the best around.
It's the fastest and has a lot of options, doesn't use up too much ram either.
I'm now using GO Launcher.
Waiting for ICS to come out b4 I root and use custom rom so not really trying to do too much to it for now.
Another vote for go launcher hd. Ive tried quite a few and its the best so far.
I'm now using Go Launcher, just wish it had more options like phone version.
Go Launcher HD. Its the only one (on HC or ICS) that has acceptable widgets scrolling speed. Its still a little jittery for homescreen swiping, but its a good compromise.
I have had great experience with ADW on a Droid X handset. Is there have a tablet-optimized version of ADW?
Hi everyone
I'm using Go Launcher HD. It's def good. Much better on a tablet than EX.
Can't wait for an HD version of SPB. When done well it speeds up one's UI
noticably. For the moment it's a bit rubbish though and very expensive.
I use ADW EX. works just fine on a tablet, and I like how I can turn off the dock and menus, giving it a clean desktop feel. plus there are some really slick icon themes out there for ADW, too.
Apex launcher on ics...
Stock was ok for me, I was definitely missing the folder functions but I stopped using widgets because they were slow so I just dropped a bunch of icons around.
Now I moved on to ICS, so whatever came with the rom is what I'm using and it has folders!
Nova is great and really fast.

Hi
Go Launcher HD is really good lately and keeps improving. I like the looks of SPB shell but it's definitely not ready yet for the tablet.
AWD is praised everywhere. But I never tried it pretty happy with the GO Launcher.

Me too. Give it a try.
Hey guys,
I was looking for a very light and fast launcher for replacing my xperia home.
I came across this launcher which i never heard of and is not so well known.
I has a refreshing new concept of a home launcher and i thought i would share.
Introduction video
Lightning Launcher on Google play
Maybe you like it as much as i do
Cheers
I tried this launcher a few times and even followed the development on Facebook a while. I liked being able to place things anywhere but the zooming in and out drove me mad. I settled for SSlauncher which also allows me to place text and icons anywhere.
Fast, less RAM usage, Smooth and good looking? Check THIS
thanks for the app.. !!!
I am using this launcher. Really light and fast. I would recommend it for those who like spiffy apps.

I installed this Launcher a while back but never noticed the text only style, the Zune style,
I replaced the font with NXT Font from Xperia S and it looks awesome, and fast,
I always love simple, clean, functional interface.
Just wondering what you guys use for the launcher that comes with a phone or Nova etc, Please share! Does custom launchers can save you battery?

I use Nova Launcher, just because I like it [emoji4]. Stock launcher is excellent too I think but I don't see any negative effect on my battery with Nova. If there is it's soon little that I don't care.
The stock launcher is ok but I have always preferred Nova launcher so much that I bought the prime version, I also have Apex launcher Pro as well but find Nova smoother & quicker.
Using Nova now. Runs a bit smoother then stock

Nova launcher. The default one is fine too and better in some ways, but nova works the best for me.
Smart launcher, few shortcut on the desktop and a clock. Do you really need something else?
Sicksky for me, running CM. Minimal, fast, light.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2404089
I like the app drawer on stock, but have been using themer. I haven't looked into Nova too much, recent switch after having 4 iphones. It's odd since you'd think I'd want everything on my homescreen after years with iOS but suddenly I'm all weird about how my app drawer looks.
Google Now launcher. Not interested in bloat and unnecessary, performance-and-battery-sapping gloss.
What is the actual advantage in running a custom launcher? I keep hearing the term banded about but I've never changed my launcher, not even when I was running CM on my old Galaxy S3, I just left it with whatever happened to be there.

More customisation and snappier experience are usually the main reasons. Some launcher have additional functions like organising your apps for you and etc.
I used to be a huge Sony stock launcher fan but then I tried nova and never looked back
Might have to give a custom launcher a try now I'm rooted then and see what all the fuss is about.

The biggest advantage for me is the possibility to add more rows/columns in the homescreen and app drawer, having only 4 columns look ugly and outdated. Being able to download custom icon packs is a huge deal too.
