Help!!!!!!!!!!
I am trying to kill all of the Verizon packaged bloatware on my Rezound. I have already tried to use Cleantool 2.1.1 and it doesn't seem to work. I am not sure if it is outdated. If i uninstall all of it or remove it from the Verizon apps tab it just updates and installs it later. I want it gone. Please help me.
are you rooted?
Well, if you're rooted, you could simply delete the bloatware, or move it off to somewhere else. Something like this, depending on your definition of bloatware...
Code:
#rezound bloatware remove
mkdir /mnt/sdcard/ext_sd/bloatwareRZ
busybox mount -o remount,rw /system
cd /system/app
busybox mv VCASTMusic3_72_vigor_beta.apk /mnt/sdcard/ext_sd/bloatwareRZ/VCASTMusic3_72_vigor_beta.apk

I guess i'm not sure about rooted. I am new with the android. how do i root.
bobcsc - check out this link - it should hopefully help answer your questions
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1415615
If you're new to rooting, the easiest method would be rooting using the link posted by Argent36 and then using Titanium Backup to freeze the Verizon bloatware.
Yes i would be good for now going with the easiest possible route. i think that i need to do allot of studying before i jump into the development side. what is the titanium backup? any other suggestion anybody has for the time being is appreciated until i have the comfort level on the development side.

Your best bet is to follow Argent36's link. I used it to root my Rezound and could not be happier. If you take your time and follow it to a T, you should not have any issues. No more VZW bloat and ICS Roms a plenty! Titanium allows you to backup, remove, freeze apps but you need to be rooted.

Hey thanks for the code.
I'm not a developer, but not an idiot either.
Can you just let me know how and where to run this code because it seems like a very easy way to do what I've been doing manually...which is moving the bloat exactly as your little code does.
I assume I run this in sdk? But just want to confirm before I do something stupid.
Thanks

Root Checker Basic
I found root checker basic quick and easy to use for verifying root back in the temp root days of the rezound. Search the market for it.
My HTC Rezound is rooted and I have an ICS ROM...Will the free version of Titanium Backup remove the bloatware? Also does anybody else with a rooted Rezound have WORSE battery life than before....TY!

Absolutely NOT! I was getting 6 hours of light use before I unlocked the bootloader and flashed a rooted ROM. This app is free and is the best I've found for freezing/removing any apps you don't want to run (titanium free won't work) :
App Quarantine
but i feel that Titanium Backup is well worth the money IMO

It is a good app, but not very user friendly for noobs. If you're cheap like I am you can A) Delete all the crap you don't want in the ROM's zip before flashing and/or B) use MyBackup Root for automated app & data restore then freeze bloat with App Quarantine
Yeah I'm really new to the whole rooting world, thanks a bunch!
---------- Post added at 08:32 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:38 PM ----------
Yeah I downloaded the Titanium app and was like OMH what is all this stuff...lmao..
I just go in root explorer and delete apk's like a mad person. Don't see the sense in freezing crap you're never gonna want or need on your phone.

This should work on Honeycomb 1 and 2/2a. It includes Contact Sync for GMail (I needed this), Gmail, Market, Talk, and Maps.
Extract HoneyGApps.v2.zip in ADB directory
Double click HoneyGAppInstall
Done
Code:
adb shell mount -o rw,remount -t ext2 /dev/block/mmcblk1p2 /system
adb push Vending.apk /system/app
adb push GoogleServicesFramework.apk /system/app
adb push Gmail.apk /system/app
adb push Maps.apk /system/app
adb push Talk.apk /system/app
adb push GoogleContactsSyncAdapter.apk /system/app
adb shell chmod 6755 /system/app/Vending.apk
adb shell chmod 6755 /system/app/GoogleServicesFramework.apk
adb shell chmod 6755 /system/app/Gmail.apk
adb shell chmod 6755 /system/app/Maps.apk
adb shell chmod 6755 /system/app/Talk.apk
adb shell chmod 6755 /system/app/GoogleContactsSyncAdapter.apk
adb reboot
You can either add any missing files using the above code or just run the script and it will overwrite/replace everything. I have been mucking with files so hopefully everything required is included... I've left v1 attached just in case.
When downloading from the market sometimes it is very slow, sometimes very fast. There can also be a delay between when you click install and you see the download start. Be patient, if you click install again you will start a second download.
======== OLDER DIRECTIONS ========
Extract HoneyMarketInstall.v2.zip in ADB directory
Double click HoneyMarketInstall
Done
Code:
adb shell mount -o rw,remount -t ext2 /dev/block/mmcblk1p2 /system
adb push Vending.apk /system/app
adb push GoogleServicesFramework.apk /system/app
adb push Gmail.apk /system/app
adb shell chmod 6755 /system/app/Vending.apk
adb shell chmod 6755 /system/app/GoogleServicesFramework.apk
adb shell chmod 6755 /system/app/Gmail.apk
adb reboot
* Standard disclaimer, use at your own risk and stuff. *
(Market is version 2.2.11)
(GMail is version 2.3.2)
(Talk is version 1.3)
(Maps is version 4.5.1)
thanks this is helpful

Doesn't usually work for me... went with what I know works.
I just get FC's out of the framework and the market... Using the 02 version of the Nook Honey posted which adds sound... Something needs to change in the framework or such?
I updated to 1.1.0.
Everything works great.
The Market is totally different. I used to only have a few apps in portrait, but in landscape I had more.
Now it all looks different but works great portrait or landscape.
Seems like I have many more apps available now.
I am a Happy Camper!
Worked well for me. Only a few things that won't install....get Unknown error - 18 trying to install Anry Birds.. anyone know what could be the cause of this?
Also, I really hope Root comes along soon, then this will be AWESOME!
Thank you DB for HC!!

I tried Angry Birds on 01 and didn't have any issues installing (I installed it using ADB however).

No, I made the disk, booted into HC (2, with sound), plugged in USB cable, pushed/chmod'ed, rebooted. From there FC's on related items. Didn't do anything else at all.
I might mess with a bit more here later. I have it on two cards, one I put your files on, the other I didn't....
Weird.. Rebooted a few times and the FC's stopped, and then the market worked, google sync worked..
Then things went south again Okay, HC is cute, played with it, check! Back to the stock ROM.

Credit goes to NuroSlam for coming up with a working method. This requires a functioning adb connection. Using this version of su is not as secure because it will not activate Superuser for your permission to grant root access. In fact, it can work without Superuser.apk installed at all. Hopefully we will soon have an updated su or maybe the next version of Honeycomb will be prerooted. First download the following files:
1. su http://www.magicandroidapps.com/su.zip
2. Superuser.apk http://bit.ly/su2361ef
3. busybox http://busybox.net/downloads/busybox-1.18.2.tar.bz2
Extract the above files using your favourite program
Using adb, install all three files to /data/local:
adb push su /data/local
adb push Superuser.apk /data/local
adb push busybox /data/local
Use adb remount to open the /system directory
adb remount
Use adb shell to move files
adb shell
cd /data/local
cat Superuser.apk > /system/app/Superuser.apk
cat su > /system/bin/su
cat busybox /system/xbin/busybox
Symlink su and set permissions:
ln -s /system/bin/su /system/xbin/su
chmod 06755 /system/bin/su
Typing su should now work
su
su: access granted, courtesy of www.magicdroidapps.com
Install busybox
exit from adb shell and using a terminal application (i.e Root Explorer or Better Terminal Emulator) on the nook,
su
busybox --install -s /system/xbin
That should do it, works with Root Explorer, Titanium Backup, LCD Density, Quick Boot and SetCPU.
Good Luck
really? That simple? Root was the only reason i haven't jumped on the Honeycomb train. This may change my mind.
I tried this on the 2gb sd image got root. But after I rebooted root was gone.
I noticed su is in /system/bin rather than /system/xbin on the Froyo image. Any reason?

Thanks! I couldn't really follow the part with installing busybox. Was I supose to make the busybox binary? Anyway, I just let titanium backup install busybox for me by clicking the "Problems?" button.

Running busybox from terminal will install all the busybox commands in /system/xbin which should make them available when using adb.
Just a suggestion...
Making a batch file with the command and packing everything in 1 zip makes it a lot easier for most people and reduces the chances of people forgetting a step.
You were right I tried again and now I am rooted after reboot. Thanks

Note to the OP, this method isnt exactly quite the same as using the "su" from the SuperUser app would be. This is just a modified "su" binary from the AOSP build which bypasses the check for uid AID_SHELL. Typically, the su shipped with Android only allows root access if invoked via "adb shell".
Now, although this modified binary is quite ok and will get you on the way working with all the Apps that require root access, but it will leave your system unsecure.
You see the guys who developed SuperUser have a hook inside the "su" binary which invokes the SuperUser activity which allows the user to allow/disallow/track other applications' root requests and usage.
So my advice is to be really careful and understand what you are doing if you decide to install this.
I'm gonna try and recompile ChainsDD's SuperUser and see if I can remove its dependency on mktemp.
EDIT: There is no need to push the SuperUser.apk, the modified su has no relation with it and it will work anyways.

yes, at the stands, its just root access. granted i had my own reasons for this
Can someone knowledgeable please submit a detailed post, which instructs how to remove any files added during the Root Process, as well as any other file permission changes or modifications of any other type?
I see many half assed posts in these forums made by unqualified members, which are nothing but a waste of time and clutter this great resource. I would appreciate it if this post could be addressed by those who truly understand this process.
The file that was used to Root the SCH-i905 from Verizon was the one attached to this post.
Thanks in advance! This could be a great learning tool if answered properly.
Can some one please respond? Or is it that everyone is too scared to post helpful information?
Well, since no one was of any assistance, I was forced to piece together information and come to an understanding of how this works, and how to fully reverse what was done by this Root Update.
To begin, I would like to mention, that removing Superuser.apk from the /system/app folder, along with 'su' from the /system/bin folder, will negate your Root Access, and put you back to your default levels of access. This will prevent Mobile Device Management Solutions, such as AirWatch, Zenprise, or MobileIron from detecting your device as being compromised.
I was not successful in removing these two files via the ADB shell, however I was successful when using a Terminal Emulator App on the Device itself.
1.) I began by installing a free Terminal Emulator from the Android Market.
2.) Launched the Terminal Emulator and typed 'su' , then pressed Enter to gain Root Shell Privileges.
3.) From the Root Shell, I typed the following commands to remount the '/System' Directory to gain Read/Write Access.
mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
4.) I typed the following commands to remove 'Superuser.apk' and 'su'.
cd /system/app
rm Superuser.apk
cd /system/bin
rm su
5.) Type the following command to remount the '/System' Directory back to Read Only.
mount -o ro,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
6.) Sync your device with Google under Settings / Accounts & Sync.
7.) Reboot your device, and you are good to go.
It might be a good practice to perform a Factory Reset on your device after doing this, however this is not completely necessary. I tested the Air-Watch Agent installation after performing the procedure mentioned above, and the Air-Watch console no longer detected my device as being compromised.
I will add that on my sch-i905 I found the bin directory under system not under system/app. For me, replacing cd /system/app/bin with cd /system/bin did the trick but the rest worked a treat - thanks for the post!
Thanks for pointing out my typo. I corrected the path in my Post.
Thanks for this.
Does this restore the stock recovery that was replaced with Clockwork when the kernel.zip and recovery.zip files were flashed to obtain root? I do not totally understand the relationship between Superuser and CWR. I found a reference to a flashable stock recovery in post 14 here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1205639&page=2 , but I'm unclear on the instructions.
I'm trying to understand how, if possible, to return my VZW LTE Tab to out-of-the-box stock, if desired.

I have the Superuser icon showing up in my apps folder, but I don't appear to have root access. I can't su in the terminal emulator nor can I load apps that require root access. I also tried removing the Superuser.apk via a file manager with no luck.
Any idea how to remove this thing if I don't actually have root access?
---------- Post added at 09:25 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:10 PM ----------
OK, I rooted again and fixed whatever was broken. Then I was able to apply these commands to unroot the device.

Stock Recovery isn't required to Root the device. However, if you wish to install CWM via ROM Manager from the Android Market, Root Permissions are required.
If you use an ODIN Flash of CWM, there is no need for Root Permissions because you are flashing via ODIN.
The stock recovery zip file that you referenced in the other post should be fine.
Just use ODIN to Flash back to Stock Recovery and use the process that I mentioned to remove Root Permissions and Super User, and you should be all set to return your device after a Factory Wipe.
Cheers!

OK, I rooted again and fixed whatever was broken. Then I was able to apply these commands to unroot the device.
Thank you!

Scott,
I'm sorry for just seeing your post. I'm sure that you figured it out by now. You need to gain Root Access to your device again to remove Super User. You are in a Catch22.
If you are using an SCH-I905, Root your device, then download Script Manager from the Android Market.
Run this very simple Bash Script that I wrote to remove Root and Super User.
Paste this into notepad and save it as Unroot.sh then run with Script Manager.
Code:
mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
cd /system/app
rm Superuser.apk
cd /system/bin
rm su
mount -o ro,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
Be sure to run the Script as Root from within Script Manager. The app will kind of freeze up as soon as it runs, which is normal. This will certainly take care of your problem.
Thanks for your post of stockrec in a different post. You saved me a month ago with that one.
Cheers!
Will Samsung know if I rooted my GT 10.1 LTE after using these commands, and sending in for warranty?
Does anyone know how often airwatch checks for the root? anyway to bypass the checks?
Is this the same for the US Cellular 4G Tablet? I have been reading and all that I have found was WiFi only files. Which if I were to root with those I lose the 4G radio.
Perfect.. Just what I need. Thanks
Somehow when I installed Busybox, I installed it three times. I ended up with:
/system/xbin/busybox
/mnt/sdcard/busybox
/sdcard/busybox
How do I uninstall the extra installations and which should I uninstall?
thanks

/system/xbin/busybox is the only real installation.
/sdcard and /mnt/sdcard are the EXACT same location....on your internal sdcard.
highly doubtful its an actual installation
Busybox Installer is telling me I have multiple installations.
rename /sdcard/busybox to /sdcard/notbusybox
see if it still says it...

Yeah, I got the same error message when I tried to use Busybox installer after immediately rooting my SGSII (stock root) using jivy's Method 1 (Odin + SuperOneClick).
However, I haven't really bothered to plug my SGSII and ADB into it to see if there's anything's corrupt. Looking at Titanium Backup PRO, everything seems to be fine (says I have BusyBox 1.18.4 installed).
Thanks Pirateghost. One of my apps needed to have BusyBox and checked for it. It stated that BusyBox was correctly installed; so, I guess I will leave things as they are.
I used Oneclickroot and it says my device is rooted, but none of the apps like Titanium backup, say I have root. I also followed another way or rootiong my phone where you use the volume down button to select "reinstall packages" it says it was rooted successfully, yet none of the root-required apps are detecting root. I also have the superuser app installed now.
I dont want to flash a ROM or anything, i just want to delete the bloatware and make my battery last longer
Are you on android 2.2 or 2.1?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda premium
im on 2.2 with froyo.
I actually followed the directions that were posted on XDA about how to root, so im not sure why it didnt work. This is another that I followed when the XDA one didnt work... http://www.techwhizz.com/root-samsung-vibrant-android-22-froyo-2/
I also keep getting this when OnClickRoot asks to test when rooting is finished...
Running a SU test...
Test failed!
FAILED
any suggestions?
I have used the ODIN route with Eugene's Unofficial TMO 2.2 Froyo ODIN. You can find it here with the directions:

If you are successful, you will be rooted and stock. Some of the bloat will already be removed. Good Luck.
The goal is not to wipe anything from my phone. This is why I have never bothered to root my phone. I knew something would go wrong, and it would be so easy like everyone says it is. I just want my battery to last longer. Im already using Juice Defender, but I still only get about 8 hours on my phone. I hardly use it and find it almost dead by 8pm
I have busybox and battery calibrator, but say im not rooted. Superuser shows no apps
To be clear, you were using nothing but stock 2.2 Froyo. You then used the OneClickRoot method for rooting, follow all instructions exactly as they're listed. After you rebooted, you attempted to download and use an app that requires root and it didn't work. Is that correct?
I've noticed that occasionally Titanium Backup won't properly recognize root until you've wiped the data for it through the Applications Manager.

thats correct. The only thing that does recognize root is now battery calibrator. Superuser still shows no apps
so far the only app that recognizes root is battery calibrator. Busybox, TB, and autokiller memory optimizer dont recognize root. super user shows no apps. Im wondering if my phone is even rooted, since after using battery calibrator, my phone has dropped 15% in the last 20 minutes. Nothing is even running on my phone. its just sitting there.
I did use Root Checker, heres the results...

Im sure that im putting the update.zip on the internal sdcard and that it isnt called update.zip.zip. Ive been at this for 3 days now...
Anything? Ive posted the results from Root Check... really didnt think rooting would be this much of an ordeal
How about if you unroot and start over.
Get a terminal (any terminal) from the market or if you have adb set up and run these commands.
su
rm -r /system/app/Superuser.apk
rm -r /system/xbin/busybox
rm -r /system/bin/su
reboot
Then start over with the update.zip from the stickie that I show you yesterday.
I don't usually solicit thanks but this is going on two days now. How about a little something for the effort, eh? hahaha
I did try ot unroot last night with one click root and it says Im not rooted when I try that. I did use the update.zip from the sticky you gave me.
When i used the terminal I got:
rm failed for -r/system/bin/su, no such file/directory
reboot: operation not permitted
At this point, i would say Odin back to stock or try to re-root with the first method you tried. I agree though, it should not be this hard to do it. If you do end up going back to stock, just use the update.zip method to root it. It works so much easier.
Like I said yesterday, it took less than 3 mins to do it. It actually took me longer to download it than to do it and I never once hooked up to a PC. Did it all through phone with browser, xda app and root explorer.

Did you type su and then enter first? Did ask for superuser permission? From what you posted last night and now this, I am almost positive that you are not rooted and Odin-ing back tostock is the way to go and start over.
I just deleted the update.zip file. im gonna start over, again. Should it remain zipped? Or do I need to extract it? Ive also read somewhere the update.zip needs to go in the j:/ or the root of the internal sdcard? I dont see that anywhere on the internal sdcard or anywhere in my files. Ill try the terminal again.
