Came back from Epic Touch (lost in the mail by the repair site after a brick, the replacement phone they bought for me from ebay has a lost/stolen esn), and I cannot stand little lags here and there.
Has sprint/htc made any improvements at all, like gpu acceleration or sd card optimization since last October? Right now I'm running Chogardjr3D blue rom, and it's night and day compared to the epic touch, where everything is silky smooth and gpu accelerated.
Any recommendations on a smooth rom?

MIUI ftw!
If you wanna stay on a sense base id say viper
Eternity is hands-down the smoothest UI experience this far on the 3D, MeanROM is probably a bit quicker but definitely bot smoother.
Thanks, which ones of the mentioned roms have everything working?
If I remember correctly, MIUI don't support wimax on principle, or has that changed?

Any sense based ROMS have everything working. I have been using MEANRom for a couple of months and have no issues and no lag/stuttering at all. MIUI will never have 4G working as stated in their thread.

Remember OP, this is a thread asking for opinions and on a smooth ROM. I am going to have to disagree with Joe with how smooth MeanROM is. Your best bet is just to flash different ROMS and see which one you think is the best.
MeanROM has been the smoothest ROM I have used that is sense based with everything working
I have been using CleanROM for the past 6 or so months and it has been great. Always get great battery life and stability with Scott's ROM's.
You will have to play around with things stock builds work well with bloat removed . Oc kernels roms can be fast doesn't help battery life out tho. But its what you prefer and want outta things.

MEAN ROM! Lol it's by far the best rom out there.
...sent from my super mean 3vo. RAWR!
InfectedROM Eternity, nothing else is as fast or smooth. It now comes with the v6 supercharger script so with that on, nothing comes close to speed or smoothness. Even without the script enabled, however, it's still smooth, you'll just have less free RAM without the script

Lol everything is smooth just depends on what the OP has in mind that he wants outta a rom the looks, battery life,stock,stable...
I'm running MikRunny v1.11 right now and I think its pretty smooth.
The first rom I tried was Leedroid which is also very good, but its an optimized and tweaked stock rom.
And I was looking for something newer, an rom which contained atleast Sense 3.5 and had no serious issues.
And well you have many roms and you just can look in the threads that list these roms. Because I came from DHD I already knew what I wanted an stable rom with all phone features working and newer software like sense 3.5.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1458032
These threads are super subjective.
Any launcher that is not android native will typically be "laggy". This can be fixed by increasing scrolling speed and turning off fancy animations.
I can tell you from years of doing this any rom that is a stock rom will be the same, unless they use a different launcher and or mod the animation speed.
Just use them all, use what you think is best. I have an Epic Touch the hardware acceleration on it doesn't make that big of a difference.
You should sometimes ad somethings yourself. Like the oc deamon and controller and there are scripts that improve the performance.

You're not going to find an AOSP ROM with everything working, because there isn't one yet. I would suggest viper ROM, clean ROM, or mean ROM. I have been on viper lately and it runs great on my device.

flawless, and tons of performance tweaks...
or steelROM v.2.72....... i would say 2.73 but some people are having little issues with it so wait a little bit for steel and those guys to iron that issue out, but that ROM is always flawless as well.
eternity
what performance tweaks can i do with eternity rom???
bro I'm just gonna give it to you straight up here.... you can "tweak" any ROM. just try a few of them out because everyone's opinion will be different and more importantly they will be different than yours. give those two a shot in mentioned and go from there

Hey guys. I was wondering which ROM you guys use and why.
+1 for ZR3D
I tend to bounce back and fourth from MeanROM and ZR3D. I like the theming that ZR3D has, but no matter how much I play with the DSP settings, the sound (for me) sounds overly gained and poppy.
I am currently back to MeanROM.
Mean Rom is unbeatable for me. Fast, stable and great battery life. Its constantly getting updates and dev always avail to answer questions. What else could you ask for?
Lol
Both roms are different..
It really depends on what a user wants outta a rom..
But both guys offer great support .. Steal and dashed14 and dropzone I know I didn't spell his user name right srry.. Drop..
You just gotta try things out pick what makes ya happy lol..

I use ZR3D and its smooth and fast. Only lag I see is scrolling in SMS list. Haven't tried meanrom lately but when I tried it a few weeks ago sense was choppy. With Chad's kernel ZR3D is even smoother. Might try meanrom tonight again and ill post my opinion afterwards.
Video of ZR3D with anthrax @1118 ghtz. I recommend watching it in YouTube app. Less video stutter
I never liked mean rom. I don't k.ow why, but it felt too stock and laggy and the battery life was nowhere near what other users claimed it to be. I like ZR3D but the battery on that was just as bad sad it was on mean rom, but at least it felt smooth. I'd recommend for you to try eternity, noctural adrenaline, and android revolution hd. All of these are buttery smooth with great battery life. Out of those though, eternity is my favorite.
What are you using to oc/uc? Also what theme? Thanks.
i have tried every rom for evo 3d cdma 10 times over.. for me mean rom with chads kernel is top notch.. super fast.. battery life is like none other and the support is great!!!!! roms run differnt on differnt phones.. a rom that runs good for me mite not for someone else... feel me

Finally got to try Meanrom again and it looks like it comes with Anthrax kernel 882. But even with that, sense was still choppy. Also it doesnt seem to have leedroids tweak which can help enhance sense and status bar. Everything looks pretty stock on it with bloat removed. I'm not knocking his rom as a lot of people love it. But my preference goes to ZR3D for its smoothness (even with stock kernel), along with the inclusion of leedroids tweak, and several eye candy but not overly done. But in the end you will be the best judge so just try them both and see for yourself and as someone suggested, try other roms as well. Its as easy as making a nandroid backup and try each rom without redoing your data just yet and just play with it for a few minutes. A lot of times thats all you need to see if its the rom for you. All the devs work hard in making their rom special to them and to others so make sure you support them by making a small donation. I dont know what I would do if I had no choice but to be stuck using HTC stock rom. That would really suck! lol.

Exactly. You will find so many people that like Variable 'X' ROM, and other's that love Variable 'Y' ROM.
There are so many great ROMs out there. It's up to you when it comes to your favorite. Just try keep trying different ones until you find one that you love.

Sense: inbREDed ROM is smooth and fast, MeanROM is another one. Both have all stuff working without problems. MeanROM is more stock look while inbREDed is a fully themed ROM, ledroid tweaks, 2 MPx in front forced. Also, OP is working on 1080p recording

The two ROMs I use:
Mean ROM: everything works. Uses the Ziggy kernel which is stable with great battery life. Very active dev (new release every few days) and very active user community. Has Beats working without the headphone hiss. This ROM looks mainly stock with some addons included or flashable.
Nocturnal Adrenaline: everything works. Uses the Anthrax kernel which is slightly worse on battery, but a little better in performance. Active dev (new releases about once every week or two) and active community of users. Less stock look since Leedroid tweaks are built in and some of the widgets and apps are inverted.
I flashed version a 2.2 ZR3D rom and it is great. Really sped my phone up!

X2. I am not new to rooting, but just recently finally rooted my Evo3D. Tried several different ROMs. I found that Mean ROM was very stable, very quick and snappy, everything works, and very active dev, as stated before. Many that use Mean are changing to the Anthrax kernel to go even faster, but the Ziggy kernel that comes stock on the ROM works great, and is a huge improvement over stock.
I AM looking forward to an ICS ROM that has everything working. Every time I try a ROM with something as a know issue not working, I think it will be no big deal to do without. Then I find that is the feature I miss the most. So I choose to stay with fully functional ROMs. Just my opinion...

Depends on if you like sense or de-sensed roms.
For sense I like CONROM and the OTA ICS plus rom from micromod777.
For de-sensed I like both of Neo's roms (fast as hell) or CONROM with the desense option in aroma installer.

Big fan of Neo's latest Adrenaline here, including battery life, it also appears smoother than 1.6 and below but it does appear to be more sluggish than Venom. Having said that however my battery life with the Venom rom was horrible and my phone heated up a lot..never have the latter issue with Neo's rom or Nils' Business Sense 3.6 v5.7 rom for that matter (highly recommend giving that a shot too)
I highly recommend using ElipticRez by hawknest

Thanks pball, I installed everolv, it looks good. I should get my AT&T SIM in the next day or two, once that arrives I'll flash the gsm zip and report back how it goes.
About 2 weeks ago I installed Ecliptic Rez V9 on our two Rezounds and I agree wholeheartedly with it being rock solid. It has a lot of features to keep me entertained for quite awhile.

If you really like Sense, and don't care that is still ICS, consider EclipticRez ReVamped v9... it is rock solid and battery life is respectable to great for the Rezound. It has always been my go to ROM for the Rezound when I get frustrated with the little things about KitKat that plague the Rezound
That being said, I heard the @REV3NT3CH found a solution to the camcorder problem in KitKat on the Rez?!?!? WTG bro!!! The final major hurdle has been overcome!!!

Was gonna wait for the official ICS update for the thunderbolt but after 4months and numerous rumors not panning out im going to root and flash a rom any suggestions for the best daily driver ????
But browsing and reading up a little but still confused on whats available??? Would love to try jelly bean but i can settle for ICS
Battery life, speed and stability are the important points for a daily driver
Whats you suggestions????
I know I'm gonna regret it as soon as i root and flash the official update will probably come out but i remember when i first rooted my OG droid I never went back so what you guys suggest??? also next upgrade will probably be taking the nexus 4 to straight talk but wanna get a few more months out of my Thunderbolt u would think HTC would want to keep the customers that run out and bought the first 4G device but i guess all they really care about is our money.

If you're looking for an ICS build there really is no amazing one yet, but Liquid's is the best you will find with Nusense a close second. My personal recommendation for a daily driver though is Thundershed, or any of the roms from reds. I am running ikream nosense and enjoy it a bit. There is also the sense based offering of it both are pretty nice. Depending on what rom you go with there are kernels and things like that to pick up from there.
If you want something bug free i recommend Skyraider zeus 1.3. Thats what im using with the lean kernel. Its very smooth. Plus there is a sweet ics theme for it. Throw in halo launcher aswell and you pretty much have the complete look and feel of ics and bug free. Everything works perfect on this rom

Skyraider always bootlooped or the radios were horrid and drew no signal for me for no reason even after clean flashing so I swapped over to the ikream ones personally

Thats odd. I've used it for a long time with no issues. I use the .19 radio with it.

As was I. I just assumed my phone had aids though since it sees to work quite well for a lot of users
Proving again that all Thunderbolts are different, don't know why, but each responds differently to different ROMS.
To the OP, remember! Flashing is cheap, don't hesitate to try several ROMs before deciding on one you like.
I lean toward the NuSense but battery life isn't quite what I need... <sigh>
Another hearty recommendation for SkyRaider 1.3.
I've been evaluating lots of other ROMs and radio combos. Nothing has been as solid a daily driver as SkyRaider Zeus.
I'm really working at using Twisted's AOKP ICS, but my Bolt doesn't love it. I keep getting data hangs, and have to reset the radios via Airplane mode off/on.
And the leaked Sense ICS was way too battery hungry for me.

I have been running on Sky Raider and once I got the right radio, I had no issues. Pretty solid

LiquidSmooth 3.2:good: with the .19 radio. It has been my daily driver for almost a year now. Way better than any current ICS rom for the mecha. No problems, everything works. And it all works plenty fast enough.
If you really want a solid ROM with everything working great, Sky Raider is excellent. Especially since I like having a good camera and video camera. Nice to have everything work perfectly. I love AOSP, it is very fast, but you don't get the same functionality (dont get me wrong it is very close, but small things like camera are just not quite as good) you do with Sense. I hate sense but skyraider really is a great ROM

I sent you a private message with the link. Not sure if I am allowed to post it in the forum. If anyone else needs it just PM me.
You should check out Twisted's new rom. I haven't had any problems with it and it's the smoothest rom I've had in awhile.
So can anyone give me a rundown on the differences on these ROM's? I've seen Liquid 3.2, Thundershed, and Skyraider mentioned here. Which are Sense based and which are AOSP. Are the Sense based Rom's laggy? I've tried NuSense, and it was a nice ROM, but just too laggy for my taste. I've tried Jesters and Twisted's 11-7 version of Liquids ICS ROM, and they've been great, but I'm having too many bluetooth issues which will interfere with work so it's a no go if I can't simply turn on the bluetooth and let it connect.
I understand flashing is supposed to be quick and easy so just try them all, but it seems to take me several hours to get everything backed up, flashed, and put back the way I like it. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I have only used LiquidSmooth 3.2. It is a Gingerbread AOSP. Any Sense ROM tends to be very laggy on either of my Thunderbolts. And all of the ICS ROM's seem to have at least one problem or another that keeps it from being my daily driver(bluetooth, wifi, camera or camcorder especially!)
It all depends on what you can and can't live without on a DD. Most of the Gingerbread ROMS's shouldn't have many, if any, issues. Some may be slightly slower than others and look different but all should make a good DD. The current ICS ROM's for the mecha are extremely fast, but usually lack in the camcorder or wifi department.
This thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1905083 has most of the ROM's linked(except LiquidSmooth3.2 Not sure why all the links to it were removed, Liquid is the Man tho and gotta respect his decision)

I found basically all sense roms to be laggy except for Skyraider. I'd recommend it to anyone.
