Where are the free AT&T mobile hotspots? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

So there's supposed to be free AT&T mobile hotspots and I travel through Philadelphia everyday and don't see any.
Do they mean in their store?
Any map of locations?

I live around Philly but only two i can think off the top of my head is Mcdonalds and the actual At&t store. Gee wiz... Who the hell is gonna browse or utilize wifi while your in the ATT store lol .
Google'd some more. Starbucks, Barnes & Noble, Hilton, FedEx, Airports

I was at a fedex Kinko's and there was an att hotspots there.

Its not att that puts up the hotspots, I work in the small business department and that's an advertising hinges. Those places pay to be able to advertise that they are an att wifi hotspot to bring in more customers

thanks for the link guys. Found out I have 28 in my town. Pretty much Mc.Ds but this is a site that I will bookmark so any time I travel I can plan ahead and know where I'll have free wifi.

I have noticed that most McDonald's locations in my area are ATT Hotspots. Best Buy and Office Max were others.

According to the drop down menus, the places you are most likely to encounter AT&T WiFi hotspots are as follows:
Airports
ATT Stores
Barnes & Noble
Convention Centers
Fed Ex
Hilton
Hotels
McDonalds
Starbucks
This is alphabetically listed so your best odds of finding connectivity is Mc Donalds and starbucks as there is one on every other corner.

There is a locator app named "AT&T Mark The Spot"

I removed that app from my phone. It just sat in the background draining my battery all day, even if I force close it. Opens itself back up when I'm not looking. *shakes fist*
I believe the myAT&T app that comes pre-installed also has hot spot locations, and I haven't noticed that running in the background at all.

Don't you guys have an undeletable bookmark in the stock browser for AT&T hotspots?

MyAT&T app has a way to search for hotspots, https://play.google.com/store/apps/...=W251bGwsMSwyLDEsImNvbS5hdHQubXlXaXJlbGVzcyJd. Go to "More" then ATT WiFi in the menu.
There's also ATT Smart WiFi, https://play.google.com/store/apps/...DEsImNvbS5hdHQuYW5kcm9pZC5hdHRzbWFydHdpZmkiXQ. Not sure if it's compatible with the Note. (I don't have one yet.)
There may be other apps that do the same thing.

The same here, I like how it shows how much cellular data vs how much WiFi I've used, and how it automatically finds and saves hotspots for me. Then when I go back later it connects me automatically. I am on the 3 GB LTE/3G package.

I'd venture to say it depends a lot on where you are, since carriers are always building out their networks at different rates in different places.

No one is on the network. If no one was on T-Mobile's 3G network you would be seeing 6Megs regularly on a 7.2HSPA device. I can also post up some 14Mbps+ speed tests from T-Mobile but these speeds are impossible with the devices used to get them..
Depends on the area. For example, here in Aurora sprint gets me 300 down Ans 500 up, very bad. Tmobile is fastest wrh 1.5mbps down and 600up. In Georgia, it's opposite.

Hit 4085/1319 in Vegas today, T-Mobile
I live in Atlanta and this is my speed pretty much all over the city, even in the outskirts and suburban areas
Seeing all the DL speed in MB, I am assuming all your phones are rooted and lag fix installed? Thanks.
I fall right between Jax and Sav... I get overflow from both and as long as your ina good are TMO has the fastest serv... not the most reliable bc of all the switching from E to 3g..
But in this small town some 3g is better than no 3g but on bad weather days I have to switch to 2g only bc of all the flip flopping..

I live in Clearwater (Tampa Bay area) Florida and I can max out speeds on my G1 regularly. Tallahassee, on the other hand, has probably the worst data coverage I've ever seen for Tmo. It's a very rare thing to even see EDGE in Tallahassee.

PR 3G just went live too. Beggars can't be choosers.
Network speeds is a varying thing. Now if You go by what they tell you then Tmo is first with 21mbps, Sprint second with 10mbps, Then AT&T with 7.2mbps, and lastly Verizon with 1.8mbps or is 2.4mbps. Either way you'll never get those speeds well using Sprint I get close or more with their 3G depending on the day though.

Speedtest: Anyone else have the EVO 3D in Los Angeles?

I see some people in other areas posting really high speeds compared to mine here in Culver City -
Using the speed test app, these are my speeds in Culver City
On 3G
Download 262kbps, upload 66kbps, ping 116ms - this was at 10 AM and about the same at 2PM
On 4G
Download 1561kbps, upload 480kbps, ping 116ms
I just tested 3G again at 10 PM
Download 398 kbps, upload 550 kbps, ping 116ms
On 4G
Download 443kbps, upload 53kbps, ping 116ms
In Gardena, I get 5-6Mb down and 1-1.5 up on 4G. Haven't run speedtest on 3G there.
At home in San Pedro, 4G is non existent and 3G isn't much better.

I live In Arcadia, west of Pasadena, outdoors on 4G, I get around 6-8 Mbps routinely. Don't check 3G cause I never use it. Indoors I'm about 2-3 Mbps.
I work in Marina Del Ray (hows that for a commute), the 4G signal is so-so... around 5 Mbps.
Culver sucks as far as signal. on the 10 freeway between the 405 and all the way to USC its pretty weak.

Where I work in culver city I don't even get 4g. Nor on my commute or at home. If i go a couple blocks from any location I do. My 3g signal is pretty good everywhere if I'm outside. Inside can be ok to horrendous.
Im down here in San Diego and get consistently lower speeds than any that have been posted so for. And there is NO 4G at all.
I called Sprint and they are sending me a free airave in hopes that it will give me a better connection.
I cannot even talk on my phone at my home because the calls get dropped. I had two calls dropped WITH Sprint technical support on Friday.

Saw 3G on T-Mobile USA in Bellevue, WA

T-Mobile is currently re-farming their 1900 MHz spectrum from 2G to 3G. It's been happening in various areas scattered throughout the country.
I've heard that pockets of Northern California and Nevada have been re-farmed.
But for the first time I was able to get 3G in Bellevue Square Mall (right outside Victoria's Secret and above McDonalds).
Just a heads up for Seattle users on T-Mobile that 3G will indeed be in the future for our Lumia 800s (and other international phones).
At the very least, you will now be able to upload pictures of underwear at higher speeds, or surf the web in McDonalds at kb/s equal to your calorie intake.

3G service has expanded in the Bellevue area. Now I'm able to get 3G in many parts of Downtown Bellevue, rather than just a concentrated area. I don't know why it was only in one little isolated place before. It's not like cell towers have a radius of only a few feet...
Anyone else in the Seattle/Bellevue area getting better coverage now?

LTE in Houston

I get outside around the Medical Center in Houston, TX between 17-26 Mbps. Inside the hospital, the speeds generally range from 3-12 Mbps. In the basement, I get no LTE at all. No big deal because of wifi inside the hospital. I also changed my setting in my phone from CDMA HDR LTE Only to CDMA LTE Only. I can't guarantee this made the difference but sometimes the signal is so strong it automatically connects to LTE. When the signal is not as strong I have to use the turn on/off airplane mode to connect. Thought I'd put this out there for what it's worth. BTW, you'll need your MSL # to change the setting.
P.S. I live about 9 miles south of the Medical Center and get no LTE in my neighborhood, but I have wifi at home. But when I drive north to work I usually pick up LTE after about 2 miles.
