Best sub $250 phone for T-mobile with ICS - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys. I'm looking for best hardware and software ICS for t-mobile which is unlock able for under $250. Any ideas.
Currently thinking of Samsung S Vibrant unless u guys think of better hardware (higher specs) and software support, meaning ICS already developed on XDA?
Ideas?

i own the galaxy s vibrant, and all i can say is that i love it. But i do not own the 4g. The 4g has very poor development in my opinion. but i love love love my vibrant.

T959 you own? I'm little confused cause on T959 it also says 4G but according to gsmarena it's vibrant. Confused a little.
http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_vibrant-3416.php

there are two separate phones obviously. i have the t959, i do not know the product number on the 4g. but i do know the 4g is not usually called the vibrant, just the galaxy s 4g
oh, and btw, the 4g has a front facing camera (ffc), thats a good way to tell them apart.

Thanks bro. I was just thinking of the same thing for a reason that It has all GSM quad bands, which T959 does not have (dual only) and Tmobile/europe 3G bands. Nice! It also has ICS out already. Any other ideas guys???

[Q] Slightly confused about new Vibrant...

I've heard about the new Vibrant 4G, and also the new Galaxy S2. My T-Mobile rep said the new Vibrant 4G was a dual core phone. But everywhere I've looked says its not. However I've heard the GS2 IS a dual core phone. So, are they two different phones? Can anyone help clear this up? Also, anyone know approx. release dates?
I won't be the only one to tell you this but people at T-Mobile don't have a clue! The Vibrant 4G is called the Galaxy S 4G and comes out on Feb 23. It has a 1GHz Hummingbird processor. Not dule-core. The Samsung Galaxy S II has the dule-core processor but will not even be released in the US until later this year.

Thanks for clearing that up! So, I'm guessing if I want to go dual core anytime soon, I'm just going to have to go with the LG Optimus 2X in early March.
Yep u r correct... the Gallaxy S II is one hell of a phone though. Google it and see if you think it is worth the wait.

Here is the Galaxy S II review on Engadget. Looks Nice!

But it's still Samsung. Don't give them any more money. They'll screw that one up like they have the SGS line, with poor support.

I resent that, but truth being told some of us have no clue, we're just people working a job and are trained to use tools to resolve issues. Not all of are all into phones to the extent on this site, truth be told only a handful of us root our phones. Guess who Vibrant users come see. Yeah, it sucks sometimes, but it is what it is.

keep AT&T note or go international

i currently have the AT&T LTE version of the note
and someone is trying to trade with me for their international version (they have t-mobile) and i'm currently stuck at a crossroads,
i do love the home button on the international and the development they have going on in their forum. However, i feel like development here will start to pick up also (running saurom with holo kernal) i live in San Francisco where LTE is pretty strong for me but the exynos processor does also sound nice. So this is my dilemma, any advice would be appreciated!
Note: yes i did search the forum and have read all the posts regarding at&t vs international but they all go back and forth without solid opinions =/ that is perhaps why i'm stuck right now lol.
That up to u. U need to weigh the pros and cons. Warranty alone will keep me with att and I love my LTE!

thats one of the cons against the international on my list right now, the lack of warranty ):
I thought about doing the same. I'm just gonna stick with my AT&T version. Pros and cons with both. But also remember if you ever wanna sell it and get most of your dough back, you'll get more for the AT&T version being its LTE. Especially if you have LTE in your area.
That's big for me being I always get the latest and greatest.

I guess it depends, some people maybe won't feel comfortable with a international one for some reason. I guess it depends.

well, if you don't care about LTE then go for international, if you care about LTE then stick with it.
i think Lte is important to me since i am in LTE area and using a relay video service for deaf people to communicate. i know its a little lags if its stock but i am waiting for ICS ROM.
its just a month and more developments may come in few weeks or so.
sorry for my bad english.

I didn't think deciding would be this hard.. my lte service is hit or miss in some areas so i lean towards the international but the gut wrenching feeling of flashing roms without Samsung warranty pushes me towards at&t

I say stick with the note, but that's really a question only you should decide.
I have the internation note and love it.u get abot 8mbps down and 1mbps up.thats not too bad.it looks lot better then att version and also it comes with 2 year warranty.if u have any friends oversees buy it.because u can change the csc anytime and get it fixed from any country.

The international one fetches more because people outside of the US can use it as well. It is the same with Verizon phones.. they sell for less because you can only use them on Verizon.

True, true. However the way i was looking at it is alot of cities are starting to get ATT's LTE. So he would have no problem getting top dollar for a newer LTE phone on Ebay, Craigslist etc. People over by me have them listed at $600 or more even ive seen. I have actually seen the International version on craigslist for cheaper, around me at least. I seen a guy today selling a few week old international Galaxy Nexus for $250 .
I guess it just depends where you are and if your area supports LTE. Than obviously the 4G note would get top dollar.
Hey if u don't do it I'm willing to trade him my ATT one for he international version.

Heck, I had a hard time trying to find a white AT&T Note for my Dark Blue Int but it's understandable. While I love my Int Note which will go to my mom once I get my AT&T Note from a seller on this board. LTE in my area is hard to past up which is the reason why I went to a White AT&T Note.

[Q] Worth the upgrade?

Hey guys, lookin to upgrade my original EVO. Im with Sprint so I don't have a whole lot of options. I was lookin at the Galaxy S2 obviously! Anyone who has had both of these phones have any thoughts/advice? Or anyone with some good advice?? Thanks all!

S3, you can live a month with your evo, can't you ?
This phone (GT-I9100) doesn't work on Sprint. If you're asking about the Sprint Galaxy S2 variant, then you're asking about the Epic 4g Touch. Which has a separate forum.

Great advice, if he wants to change carriers.
Since, as I said above, this phone doesn't work on Sprint's network.
If he wants a Galaxy S2 variant that works on Sprint, he wants to look at the Epic 4g Touch.
Thanks for the advice guys, I will wait for S3! As far as sprint goes, they offer a Samsung galaxy S2 on their page. What's the difference?

Hardware. The one Sprint offers is the Epic 4g Touch, (aka SPH-D710) and runs on a CDMA network. That phone has its own separate forum.
THIS phone (GT-I9100) is a GSM phone, and as I've already said, won't run on Sprint's network.
moving on to best smartphone of the year! galaxy s2 is a very wise move mate or better yet wait galaxy s3 but unfortunately release date is still unknown..

Carrier difference in S3

I currently have the Galaxy II on Sprint. Looking to get the Galaxy III and also possibly changing services. I know Samsung is going for a much more 'unified' release here, so hopefully accessories will be more abundant in the future. But I was wondering, if you could choose out of Sprint, AT&T, or Verizon not taking into account the cell coverage ( speed reasons are fine ( ie. differences in 4G ) ) which would you go for and why?
Is dev any faster on any of the services AT&T Vs Sprint for example, or GSM Vs CDMA? Do you really think the speeds are better on one carrier Vs. another?
Thanks, don't want to make a wrong choice here, and really want to get the device with the best support of devs and also the most 'standard' hardware as far as form factor for cases, docks, or whatever else comes down the road. I hate that SII cases are all different for all carriers.
Thanks for any info you can lend, hopefully I'll be picking up an SIII tomorrow
Verizon 4G LTE seems to be the fastest speed, but the bootloader on the VSGS3 is locked so that's kind of a big problem.
Thanks.. Yea locked bootloader is a bummer. I think I'm leaning towards AT&T right now. So is the hardware the same on the 3 carriers, like dock on attention works with sprint?
If you wait sprint be blazing fast after network upgrade

thanks for the smart reply...
No, the international version (GT-I9300) does not support 4G, that's exactly why North America has its own versions (there are also some North American versions without 4G too, if I am correct).
The N.A. versions have 2 GB of RAM and a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor (Qualcomm Snapdragon S4), while the international version have 1 GB of RAM and a 1.4 GHZ quad-core processor (Samsung Exynos 4 Quad). In addition, the maximum up and down speeds on mobile networks are obviously quite a bit higher for 4G LTE than international, but if you, like I, mostly use wifi networks, international should be fine to (and I can say from my own experience that the mobile network speeds on the international version ain't that bad either).
You will have to make up your mind yourself, though, as I think in the end, it just comes down to personal preference. I have the international version myself, though I am perfectly fine with it and I wouldn't really exchange it for a 4G model even if I could.

Only question for me is do i want a quad or a dual?
The 2GB of ram is nice but negligible, very little will benefit from it, at the moment anyway.
The quad core system on my i9300 is a monster, i would hate to lose two of the cores.
Plus the development for the i9300 is top notch, which for me sell's itself.
I had a bad time with the evo 3D, the uk didn't like it very much and this was reflected in development, I chose it over the sensation XE as it had an extra 256MB of ram, oohhhh big mistake lol, the sensation wasn't as quick on paper but it was optimized due to better development and for that reason i was left wanting, huge regret.
Plus the 3D didn't help
The point i'm making is, don't go for a phone just because it's got a bit more ram, especially when what's already on offer (1GB) is more than enough.
The data side of it i wouldn't know as i'm in the UK, afaik it's pretty good here.
5mb down 1.5mb up, not too shabby

I can't see carrier logos in the XDA app so I said it anyways even so, in Canada you'll only get 2G on WIND and I believe Mobilicity but I could be wrong about the latter.
