According to droid-life the update is up? - Motorola Droid X2

Has anyone got the update yet. Looks to be very minor bug fixes with "security update" Wonder if root is gone...maybe tethering too?
Sent from my DROID X2 using Tapatalk

i was talking to nitro on twitter. he said its build 418, nothing we have seen yet. he said probably 2.3.5 and in my opinion NOT worth it. if you lose root and tethering... plus according to the og droid x, they got an update which blocked root and didnt allow sbf'ing. id say STAY AWAY if you do get it, until we learn more. just my 2 cents

I agree. I can't think that Motorola will release anything that can top Eclipse right now. There are a few brave souls willing to try it so it would be wise to let them report back.
According to Motorola's famed response to the BBB, they will unlock the bootloader (eventually). That may be the time for some Atrix ports and real ROMs.
I may have to get an X2 again if that happens.

I don't remember how to check for official updates...where are they in the settings section of cm7?

I'm staying on Eclipse. Screw this crap.

Oh god! Read this: http://support.verizonwireless.com/pdf/system_update/droidx2.pdf
The set of stuff in this update is so sparse and ridiculously basic that the only notable item is "A Google security patch" to improve security.
I am betting all my money on it being a way to block root. So this is how Motorola treats its customers. This is the last straw! This is rubbing salt in the wound. Not only did they fu*k us by saying that they are NOT giving us ICS but they are gonna remove the one thing that makes this phone livable? :/
Fu*k you Moto!

And the worse part (which still has to be confirmed) is I bet you cannot SBF back to 2.3.4 or earlier without bricking your phone. You would hope they would inform you of that. And what's probably worse, WiFi is probably STILL broken for some with this version like it was with build 412.
What I don't understand is, the soak test hadn't even been sent out yet. COuld this be something that Verizon was doing outside of Motorola? Is the soak test from Motorola different? If not, then this is the last straw with Motorola. I'm done with them and I cannot wait for my upgrade to kick in. Definitely going Nexus or Rezound, leaning more and more towards the Nexus.
I really want to know if the soak test ever went out because this looks official to me and I never received the soak test, even though I was registered to get it and we had to be quiet. Could the soak test be different from this release and it's a pre-cursor to what Motorola is doing? I'm not getting my hopes up, but this seems strange that this came out before the soak test.
Also, the soak test was from Motorola, not Verizon. So is this NOT the results of the soak test? I'm beginning to think so...

The update page on Verizon says a software update is coming soon. I believe the last time too they announced on their site a new update is coming before the soak testers got a soak. So, hold your horses folks, nothing special is happening here. Verizon announced the update that Moto is gonna soon soak test and subsequently shove down our throats... :/

Moto DROID RAZR

There wasn't a thread on this new device, so I figured I'd start one.
I've always strayed away from Moto devices and have been eagerly waiting for the Vigor and Nexus Prime. That said, the DROID RAZR looks like a worthy competitor.
With competitive specs, a nice big screen and a 7.1mm thickness, it seems like an amazing device. I'd like to hear everyone's thoughts...
I will still wait for the Prime and Vigor, but this device is looking so damn good right now with my available upgrade. Pre-order starts the 27th, but it probably wont drop until early November. We'll see on the Prime dates tonight and hopefully learn of concrete Vigor dates soon.

I think it's by far the best Moto device. I still like the Rezound because of the 1.5Ghz processor and Beats, and I do like Sense. From time to time, I take a break from Sense to try the new CM or MIUI, but always end up coming back. Also, the Rezound and GNexus will come out on November 11th according to a Verizon roadmap. We'll get a confirmation on the GNex tonight.
Moto RAZR + Locked Bootloader = No Thank you
In all seriousness, this is probably the first Moto device that I would consider purchasing if it wasn't locked down. The specs are pretty nice and it's pretty thin...just like I prefer my ladies.
I also noticed on Droid Life the Razr went thru FCC with both LTE & GSM radios. That's pretty nice.

Completely agree... it is a great looking phone, but that cannot overcome the locked bootloader.
kuddos to motorola for making some nice improvements after the bionic fiasco.
I can't personally stand the look of it. I've never really liked Moto's design though. And that horrid UI thrown on top of it just doesn't do it for me. And no ICS as of right now? Locked bootloader? Pass, pass, pass...
Am I the only one who just now realized it's gonna be an amazing week for Verizon?

Looks pretty awesome, but I cannot and will not buy a phone with a locked bootloader. If I was interested in being locked down, I would buy the 4S in a heartbeat. The other reason I can't justify the Razr is because of the qHD display while still costing as much as the Rezound and Prime.
According to one leak they are all out on the 10th of November. Can't wait to see them in person, I really think I am leaning towards the RAZR. In the back of my head I think about ICS and larger screen, but the smaller better looking RAZR has me interested. Hopefully the bootloader will be figured out soon enough.

Nope. On Endgadget and Co, most comments say that Motorolala's bootloaders are hardly "perfectly safe". I love that phone too, but I will have to pass, cause we will never see any custom rom on it.
but it's so beautifull...
I'm like a moth and a candle... hahaha
Looks like the RAZR will be getting ICS sometime after launch. Kind of makes the decision tougher, although after last night's event I'm in love with the Nexus. I just pray the LTE version isn't much thicker.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
I know it's easy to jump to conclusions, but just because it has a locked bootloader doesn't mean it will always be that way. Look what HTC did, didn't motorola promise to start unlocking them? Battery is swapable, but maybe it will be still be replaceable with some disassembly. The only thing that can't possible improve is NFC. I really was looking forward to this, why did motorola leave this out?

It's official - no ICS for X2 from Motorola and Verizon

Well, it's official now per the Motorola Android Software Upgrade page: the X2 will STAY on the GB kernel (v2.3). No ICS for us.
https://forums.motorola.com/pages/00add97d6c
This, coupled with Verizon's attempts to shoo me away what with killing the "New Every Two" program, charging a $30 fee for "free" upgrades, and now taking away the grandfathered unlimited data plan and you can bet once ALL the contracts are up on my Verizon plan, I'm switching to Sprint.
Verizon and Moto can flounder for all I care. I'm going either HTC or Nexus. Luckily, the Nexus is on Sprint so I can get an unlocked bootloader which will be nice.
Honestly, who saw this coming? Typical Motorola. Yet more reasons not to buy Motorola. F'em!
If Sprint would cover our area like VZW does I'd switch in a heartbeat. Living in the sticks sucks.
"Droid X2 - Will remain on Android 2.3" That is until Dragonzkiller gets done with it. lol
Thats why I feel nothing good will ever come from carriers and manufacturers. They give us the device and service and it is the GREAT DEVELOPERS that give us the good stuff.

Stay away from HTC. I have had two of their devices. never got an update beyond a minor maintenance. Locked bootloaders and all the baggage from Sense tagging along in the kernels and framework usually keeps them from getting useful updates or custom work even from 3rd party. ANd they are bleeding red ink and going down in quality as well as customer support. Notice their flagship phones no longer even have SD card slots.

As I said before, it's sad that a single hobbyist can do what an entire development team cannot. They're doing this solely so that people upgrade to their new phones.
The Droid X2 isn't even a year old. This is completely ridiculous. I am never buying another Motorola phone again.
It'd be nice if they'd be honest and just put "Lazy/can't handle the bloatware."
Also, Q3 for everything except the newest phones...disgraceful.

Yep. As said, I'm just pissed that the X2 isn't getting ICS even though it's ONLY ELEVEN MONTHS OLD.
Any recommendations for a good phone company that unlocks their bootloaders and supports their phones?
I'm not too upset I suppose. This confirmation just means that this X2 is the last Motorola phone I'll ever buy.

A key reason for doing away with them is so as to avoid lags due to the sd card... that is what google themselves said...

Over and over I keep seeing everyone blaming ATT. Canadian carriers have not released it either. Maybe it is samsung and not our carriers. Maybe samsung is still working on a kernel issue and it is not ready. And now a new leak is about to be released. ATT is producing these leaks?? I don't think so, it is samsung. And no way is ATT a year behind on updates. That comment is absurd. There are many non branded European phones for samsung and HTC still waiting on the ICS update too. So much easier for some of you to just point the finger at ATT.

Or, it could be that the 3rd party app devs that Ma Bell allows in are having problems getting their apps working right alongside TW or the S-Pen. Or maybe someone at the top says they want a nice S-Pen game or maybe...
LOL, point is, there may be one really stupid reason or twenty really good reasons. I just don't think that AT&T worries about it that much, it's not like they are banking on ICS being a reason for more people to buy the Note.
We only see ATT leaks. Where are the Telus, Bell, and Rogers leaks?

Why would ATT be worried about this update? It is not really a factorable selling point anyways. For every one person here on XDA waiting for the update there are a 1000 others who buy and use the note as it is and could care less about an ICS update.
For what ever reason it is not officially released really doesn't matter. It will be released soon. And I would rather wait for a ROM that works flawlessly than have it brick my phone as past Samsung updates have done.
But the issue at hand is this, the note was released not long after ICS and was sold as "Update-able to ICS in first quarter 2012" and it STILL isn't. And we are just about into Q3 with no end in sight. It's the same issue that Infuse (which I bought first) users had getting Gingerbread!! So now, ATT/Samsung has the Skyrocket & Note that were to be updated Q1 and are waiting. And there seems to be no rush because both are pushing new phones with ICS and when you ask you get "Just upgrade your phone". Neither are pushing to get the update out there, because both want you to purchase new hardware out of contract so they make more money. It's a pathetic way to do business to be honest. At least with Verizon I had updates on my Droid's (Droid, Droid 2, Droid X, Droid X2) in a timely manner. So it looks more like carrier & manufacturer in bed to MAKE the users that won't root & update pay for the update to keep the coffers happy.

I would like to see proof on this "Update-able to ICS in first quarter 2012" for the AT&T Galaxy Note. The only actual direct response I saw was a yotube video from the Samsung USA marketing director, and they do not give a date:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wcoW7sh-FBk&t=2m40s
Droid x, Droid 2, and Droid X2 are Motorola phones. Not Samsung. Samsung and HTC also have a larger diversity of phones to update. Not sure what timely means? Like I said many other models, carriers, and manufacturers all over the world still have not released ICS on many phones. But I guess the whole world revolves around ATT. Then I remember the Galaxy S series. All US carriers had their versions. And Samsung had 1 helluva time getting Gingerbread updates out on these phones. And that just wasn't ATT? Had to send back an Epic and a Captivate that bricked from an official release.
To Samsung, ATT, or whoever is working on this update, take your time and get it right. Do this for those that root, develop custom ROMs , or use an unrooted phone.

Wish I had kept GB..

I dunno. It looks pretty. The UI is very quick and snappy. The battery life is worse, my phone has random reboots every couple of days, i lose connectivitity randomly throughout the day and I want watch flash embedded videos..
My phone fit my lifestyle quite nicely 7 days ago... Now I'm stuck with something that is no better than my Droid X2.. Oh wait, its prettier...
yah, the bug thread in particular is unsettling. i think i'm going to stay with GB for a while. I wish there was a downgrade path so could try ICS OTA out.
Are you using the full OTA update or a leak?
Full OTA .211 - didn't mess around with leaks or sideloading to try and avoid some of these issues.
I agree i get worse battery life on ics ota. I liked GB i got the maxx for the battery life all the bells and whistles are just ehhhh. On the other hand there seems to be an update that popped up tgis am maybe it will help.

Complain ICS isn't released soon enough, Motorola rushes to release ICS with minor bugs, then complain about the bugs and avoid the update.

the root of the problem here is moto's refusal to unlock the BL. then we could all run whatever we wanted without fear of hard brick or being stuck forever on a particular OS. So long as moto management keeps it up, they deserve our complaints - and our scorn. What? You're going to blame people being upset with this update on Motorola not unlocking the bootloader? I know a lot of people are upset that Motorola is locking down their devices, and I am one of them, but people are throwing around the locked bootloader as the excuse for every problem on many of Motorola's devices. The problem here is NOT the bootloader. Yes, it would allow some people to not fear upgrading or downgrading unofficially as much, but just as many would be more afraid because with such a great power comes great responsibility. The bootloader unlocks more potential for the phone, but it also unlocks more potential to brick it (sure, depending on how you brick it, it may be easier to undo, but I remember on HTC devices that if you mess up your recovery partition, that's the end of your phone. Not sure if it's the same on Motorola phones, this is only my second one and both have had locked bootloaders). This has nothing to do with poor management or their decisions to put certain restrictions on their devices; it has to do with Motorola releasing ICS under pressure from the community so that they'd meet their Q2 release date, and then when there are minor issues in the ICS release (which may be major for some people, but everyone uses his/her phone differently) everyone starts complaining about them.

Is there a way to easily switch off 4g in the update? Are there any interface differences?

My phone freezes all the time after update. A lot of my apps fc too. Hopefully they patch a fix.

So... were you tricked into buying a Motorola phone? Did someone secretly switch some brand X unlocked phone with a Moto Droid Razr? Did you fail to do research before you spent money on a Razr?
Sounds like bandwagon-riding, to me. And sour grapes.

No visible differences. I use the "Phone Info" app when I want to switch off 4G.

I bought the best hardware available for cellular voice communication available today, engineered by engineers who obviously know how to do that better than anyone else. Corporate managers purposely cripple software, no one else does. I know the pricks in upper management better than you could guess and bailed out of that world to do something real. American corporate management pricks destroyed our industry, and now they've sifting through the ashes to find the last little pieces so they can destroy them too, in hopes of banging their secretary a few more times and maybe buy one more new Porsche. I think more than a few of the lateral hires at google know what (and who) i'm talking about, and i'm sure they're reading these threads.

Chances of Jelly Bean on Droid X2?

Forgive me if this topic has been beat to death elsewhere in the forum, but I have not found any discussion on this, here in the General forum at least.
I know we don't even have a stable ICS build yet, but...I remain hopeful.
Should I bother to even hope for Jelly Bean on my shiny new Droid X2? Yes, I am new to the X2..it was my wife's decision, it has to do with being on the Verizon network on a re-seller for half the price and twice the data and no contracts. Anyway, I'm not giving up on the X2 just yet but I might down the road if Jelly Bean is not even an option for us, which is why I am asking.
Thanks!
I doubt Jellybean is coming to the Droid X2, at least by way of an OTA update.
CM9 is in early alpha on the X2, but despite this, I highly recommend it. It's relatively stable, in my experience.
However, Jellybean depends on many more kernel modifications than ICS. It's unlikely, granted the difficulty of porting to an earlier kernel, that JB will be ported. At least until Motorola unlocks bootloaders, but I doubt that will ever happen.

It looks like dzk is working on it from looking at his twitter.

If you check Dragonzkiller’s tweets you will see he is already working on jb for the x2.

Fully functional? Not until we get an unlocked bootloader, everything that will actually work on our kernal? Whenever dkz somehow finds the time... I don't see how it's possible but time and again he does the impossible. I have no doubt that we have been spoiled with the best of the best in our dev.

To get JB, you have to have ICS first. There will not be an official ICS for the X2 as Motorola has already stated that.
DZK, as others have stated, has begun work on CM10 for the X2 which is JB. However, CM10 overall for everyone is in VERY early alpha stages at this point in time. Remember, JB is just Android 4.1, so it's still ICS-based which means, you're still going to have all the memory issues that ICS and CM9 is currently experiencing.
Without an unlocked bootloader, replacing the kernel is impossible (unless they can get KEXEC working correctly). Otherwise, DZK will have to program around the kernel which means it's still using GB APIs and memory management which is what is causing a whole host of issues with getting ICS to run properly on the X2. But even then, that won't solve all the issues as it comes down to the hardware architecture as well: Tegra chipset, 512MB memory, etc. Some say the 512mb isn't the issue as there are other 512mb phones running ICS, but from what I understand, they also are NOT Tegra-2 based and that is where the issue lies as well with how it was architected.
It's the main reason I left the X2. Motorola pretty much abandoned it and that's why I'm on a RAZR now. I would say getting JB on the RAZR is more likely than getting ICS on the X2 ever was since JB is ICS-based. Of course, by the time we would get JB on the RAZR, I'm sure android 4.2 or 5.0 will be coming out and I'm pretty sure THAT won't come to the RAZR (well, we MIGHT get 4.2).
Dragonzkiller just tweeted a pic of JB presumably on his dx2.

Man, don't beat yourself up too bad for having your X2. My bride has mine and there's still times I gotta pick it up snd tinker with it. Yea it's limited, but with devs like DZK and others, it keeps things interesting.
Tomsgt posted a pic of the lockscreen in the off topic thread of JB. Looks NICE!

Not true, at all.
I do agree with the rest of your post.
I have decided that Googarola is the most rotten POS out there. Coupled with the dinosaur Verizon, it is a lost cause.
The latest news from the dinosaur about continuing bootlocking is the giant signal from New York of a raised middle finger to its customers.
I salute then with a returned middle finger and add in an additional right handed up and down jerking motion.
Let this be a lesson to all: Verizon hopes to copy the"I know what's best for you" law breaking NYC Mayor Bloomberg's actions.
Here's a Bronx cheer to Verizon and Googarola: "See yahs, we ain't doing no more business any more!"

You clearly didn't get the message about profits. How can moto keep selling you new hardware if they always make your old phone better???
And how can Verizon charge you and exrar $10 for each and every useful feature if you get them for free from hackers. Comon buddy , get in the game. Companies have to make their obscene profits somehow.

I think he's providing some well deserved sarcasm my way.
I work in speech recognition and find US carriers to be smoking some nasty weed that makes them believe that they are Ma Bell in 1954.

okay, that made no sense at all

It was total sarcasm. Verizon has been hitting the cocaine mainstream for 10 years, but some people still pay the devil his due.
