TW Home Screen Rotation - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

Hello All, I am curious if the home screen on the AT&T Note can be made to go landscape? I had the international version (until my son dropped it) I am pretty sure that one rotated. Could someone let me know if this is possible without an aftermarket launcher? I've tried several and they all ave attitude on this Note. If you happen to have the international version could you confirm or dispel that the home screen goes into landscape mode. Thanks in advance for your replies!

I don't think TW does landscape.
Had good luck with ADWex tweaked a bit. (faster animations etc)
People are running everything from Zeam to TSF with good results.
Most stock launchers suck IMO, and the added functionality of 3Rd party like resizing grids and widgets make them all around superior.
Use what you like, but TW doesn't do landscape.

Look for tw manager apk here on xda
It will load a modified version that supports screen rotation

I use adw now....been for about 7 mo.that now...I used to use LP....been a while tho....but I'm almost positive that LP had the people widgets but adw doesn't.....I guess it all comes down to personal preference....but there's a TON in the market....but I.always though.adw was a bit more stable

Actually, I've been using 'HE Launcher 2' lately (free from the market) and I love it. You can choose from all the popular docks (including a perfect Sense rosie, stock Gingerbread, Samsung, Froyo, espresso, blur, etc.), it has swipe-to-hide notification bar feature that works perfectly, and you can completely customize the size of your homescreens AND widgets.
Plus, Custom transitions, a blazing fast FULL app drawer, supports live wallpaper too..
I added a flip-clock with fancy widgets home, so now my phone LOOKS like it's running the Stock launcher, but it's waaay faster.

I have been using LP for a while now, sense was driving me nuts lol.
The stock android photo frame widget will work with any launcher..
Try out Go Launcher, it's free with alot of different themes and widgets (including a people, messaging, and Facebook widget)

Go launcher EX works wonders for me , couple it with the pure messenger and calendar and built in FB widget its stunning.
So I know this might seem funny to some people...
But I REALLY love the people widget that Sense has that lists favorites along the left but their last interaction next to them. Like latest facebook status, or call timing, or text message, etc.
Does any replacement launcher offer something similar?
Or is there a standalone app/widget that can do this?
If so, I definitely wouldn't mind parting with Sense...
I know that I'm not the only Launcherpro user out there!
Honestly I originally chose LPP because of the sense like widgets, but with the addition of themes (icon and widget) and transition animations, I really can't use anything else.
Plus I've found LPP to be more responsive than go or Adw, but i know many would argue on this point.
Really its just personal preference- they're all great launchers.

I'm anxious to see which launcher will be the first to be in 3D, similar to the EVO3D commercials, which shows the Sense home screen in 3D.
I have tried all launchers outhere and always go back to launcher pro. If you know how to set it up you'll have the smoother best looking launcher. LP is running at a cap 60fps scrolling with no lag. Transition effect "scale" and even iphone user are shock in how much more smoother my launcher is compare to an iphone 4. The widget are awesome too. Im using facebook, calendar and bookmark with honeycomb theme. Would not go back to any other launcher again. If anyone mention stutter or lag in LP is because they have not set it up right in the setting cause i was getting lag at first too.

I have ADW EX and LPP, the only complaint I have with LPP is the app drawer animation seems incredibly choppy.

I can're seem to fine a launcher that doesn't lag when switching pages on the note. Anyone know of a good launcher that's ics themed?

I think they will al have a degree of lag. You really should consider overclocking and then pretty much any launcher should be good for you. I use adw ex and my phone is ocd to over 1700. Its very very fast. Lag is nonexistent in every way on this note now.

I always end up back on ADWex just because I've been using it for so long with great results and am so familiar with it. Most launchers seem to work ok with appropriate transitions etc selected.
I did get TSF launcher and am pretty happy with it. It seems incredibly smooth in the app drawer, no matter the transition. If they implement regular swiping through homescreens it may become my default. It's a bit silly with lasso select popping up every time I try to switch screens.

go launcher go!

So far I like Sense 4, but I dislike the launcher...

The launcher seems limited, and even worse, has some pretty big performance issues. It seems fast *for the most part*, but relatively frequently, when I go to close or launch an app there is a pause or delay. Anyone else experience this?
So who else has ditched the Sense 4 launcher for Nova or something else?
I, personally, like some of the widgets offered through Sense, however I do not like the limitations. The things that pushed me to switch primarily are 4x5 rows/columns for icons and such along with a superior dock setup. Stock sense with an app drawer and 4 options is just too limited. I made the jump for Nova launcher when my OG Evo was running ICS and purchased the paid app and have not regretted it once. 3 sets of dock bars, refined folders nestled within them, along with my 4x5 screens. I miss a very few of the sense widgets, but most of them I have replaced with Android Pro Widgets (free version is enough for me on this one).
Just my overall 2 cents. Plus some of the stutters with sense seem to be absent on Nova
Other than the inexplicable restarts after some applications, I think it's being locked into the 4x4 grid that will be the end of the Sense 4 launcher for me. If it was just 4x5 I could look past a lot more of the other things.
I've been using Nova. It's like butter.
Thanks for the feedback, guys. Been using Nova and I love it too. Shame I can't use some of the Sense widgets though. I was really starting to like the calendar and the people widget. Not worth the hassle of using the launcher, though.

I am not sure of the calendar, but the people widget in Android Pro Widgets i *think* is very very similar to the sense ones. Check it out, may be worth your time!
If Sense 4.0 had landscape mode for the home screen, it would be PERFECT. I am addicted to the calendar widget which is what is keeping me stuck on Sense. I tried NOVA and think it is the best launcher I have tried. Nova is super fast and has landscape mode. If it could use Sense widgets it would be a no brainer to switch.

I like sense 4 too, along with some of the widgets, but I leave my phone on the kickstand all day at work so having a landscape desktop is more important to me.
I tried both Apex and Nova. I'm currently using Nova (free version so far) and it's working great for me. I like that you can customize the rows/columns in both of those launchers.

What's your favorite launcher, and why?

I still have Apex installed and use it too... But find that I don't mind using sense.
Honestly, if someone modified sense to
A) accept gestures and b) added one more row to the home screen
I don't think I would really leave it.
The "frequent" tab in the app drawer and native folder support makes all the difference.

I used to be a huge fan of LauncherPro until the developer dedicated all his time and effort to a music app and abandoned the launcher replacement that everyone loved. I just stick with Sense because I know I won't have to worry about any issues.
I like apex, up to seven customizable icons in the dock and landscape homescreen.

Oh, I almost forgot. Nova allows for vertical scroll in app drawer, which I love. I don't like having my desktop and drawer scroll the same way. Confused my muscle memory. Or I'm just that thick lol.

I like both Apex and Nova. Just wish one of them would add the ability to customize the app drawer grids (5x6, 6x6, etc.) and icon resizing.
I am using stock sense for now but have used Apex mostly on my tablet. I will probably use Apex once I get bored of stock or if I try out CM9 at some point.
I am not a huge fan of the rotating screen transition HTC uses so I may change a little early just to get the normal slide transition back.
I might also try Nova or whatever launcher allows the vertical scrolling app drawer. I'm not a fan of the paginated style. I feel like it was done to hide lack of smoothness of the phones in the past.
i am using apex and cant use anything else. now that themes are there too. there is a free black theme that gets rid of most of the blue. very nice

JW why does everyone dislike touchwiz

Hello everyone, ive loved android ever since i moved from the original iphone to the g1. Never much liked stock launchers until now actually. I used adw, go for a long time. Now with touchwiz on the s 3 i tried apex and nova for a 5x5 grid but i keep going back to touchwiz for features.
Just wondering what does everyone dislike about touchwiz?
Features i like (other launchers may have them and I dont know)
-holding page indicator to slide between screens especially in widgets. I have so many.
-widget view in general and adding to screen
-quickness of page sliding and behavior motion
-hiding apps in app drawer

Other than the UI which is horrible....I'm actually a fan of the new TW. AOKP/CM9 aren't quite necessary anymore due to the beast under the hood! TouchWiz 4 has made significant improvements. I always thought that Samsung was confused with the previous versions of TouchWiz, like they wanted to look and feel like iOS, but didn't know they're using a better and competing operating system. I'm sure if Google didn't force manufacturers using Android to have a back button and settings button, Samsung would skip on that. TouchWiz 4 cuts down on that a lot, though the icons still piss me off. TouchWiz 4 is light on memory, RAM, and is smooth.
I still prefer Sense. Sense, although a resource hog, still has a few features over TouchWiz 4. At the same time TouchWiz 4 has features over Sense 4. But, the features that matter more to me are on Sense 4.
So, I guess I hate older versions of TouchWiz, but TouchWiz 4 isn't so bad. Not bad at all.
Still supporting the people trying to bring Sense 4 to this phone and other Samsung devices.

Agreeing with the rest of the replies here. I'm running CM10 but I found it hard to find replacements for the video and music player apps. They just worked.
I definitely think is not bad but is not as responsive as cm9(idk it probably just me and have to do a fresh flash ) but sense 4 is so nice looking too but is a hog of memory, I like stock features like battery percentage, great camera app(hated gs2 camera speed),notification toggles, swype right to call, etc but cm9 for some reason is always my favorite I could live with eathier one tho, I think touchwiz would be better if menus would be white like sense or black looking like ICS, the grey color looks outdated somehow , the green battery should be blue as well, and bring the folder option to drag and make a folder on stock launcher

Just a matter of peoples personal taste I guess. I was actually shocked and baffled that you would even ask this.
I gave TW a few hours, since I had actually grown comfortable with HTC Sense on my TB. However TW was borderline unusable for me. The UI just doesn't seem to make a lot of sense, and simple tasks are made more complicated. It just seems ugly and clumsy to me. Having used Sense, Blur, and TW. I would say Sense was by far the best, and TW by far the worst. Custom launchers are better than all of them though.
I was unable to find any features that I cared about that TW gave me, that CM or far better launchers like Nova didn't. However there are many many options that Nova gives you that TW does not.
Like I said in the beginning though, it's a matter of personal taste.

I personally don't "miss" Sense, however I understand what these other folks are talking about.
Compared to TW, Sense was just a very nice looking UI. Other than just looking better than TW, it was easy to use, and didn't add extra annoyance to using the phone. Other than some limitations of the launcher, I actually really liked everything else sense provided.
I messed around with TW plenty, and I honestly just can't find anything good to say about it. The launcher is awful.
I expected as much though, with Nova installed this phone is bad *** and was everything I hoped for.
Opinions, opinions... I played with the HTC One X and I did not like the aesthetics of the UI on Sense 4.0 at all. It just looked... ugly, bulky, and consumptiuous as far as space goes. TouchWiz 5 just looks nicer to me and it's a lot easier on the phone's resources.
i HATE the way TW looks as well as sense.
ICS based launchers like apex and nova look awesome to me. So based off of that, I stick with apex. Looks great, fast, customizable
I actually was hoping to use TW. But it has one thing missing that my preferences keep me from living without: multiple scrolling docks. I was quite surprised that function was not on TW, given all the raves of how it had improved. That is a basic function available on almost any third party launcher.
I used my GS3 stock for awhile and quite got used to TouchWiz. My only complaint is how the Launcher organizes things in the app drawer. I can set it to do alphabetical, which I prefer, but folders are also placed in alphabetical order instead of at the beginning of the drawer.
I tried to go back to GoLauncher (what I used on my TBolt) but I found it to be rather sluggish.
The current versions of both Sense and Touchwiz are much better than stock ICS imo. I went to CM9 because of how much people rave about 'stock ICS' but it was pretty underwhelming. Back to TW now and enjoying it.
