Hi guys,
is there a way to replace the touchwiz calendar app (widget included) with the original ics stuff? Samsung really did a mess in this respect, I definitely prefer the ics version, more flexible and business oriented.
I tried to intall the calendar.apk but the system folder is read only and I cant do it. Also, do I need to install something else or this file is enough?
I searched the threads but the latest news are a little bit old, 2010.
Anybody have the same wish? I am running now the latest LPQ ics for sgs2, rooted.
Get an app that is like Root Explorer
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...wiY29tLnNwZWVkc29mdHdhcmUucm9vdGV4cGxvcmVyIl0.
that is a paid app but there are free ones that do the same job.
Inside Root Explorer there is a toggle to mount the system as R/W or R/O just swap it over and you can move the apk to the /system folder.
ps.R/W means read/write and R/O means read/only. Should of said that before.

Any ideas how to install the AOSP ICS MMS.APK?
I'm running the LPB leak so i've got the ugly TW MMS.apk. I've tried MMS.APK from a CM9 download but it didn't work. Is there a flashable CWM file available? Currently using Handcent.
Thanks
I've been looking into this myself, as I much prefer the ICS look to the horrible iPhone-alike TW MMS app.
There's a thread that provided the stock ICS app, but the files were on multiupload, so it's not downloadable at the moment. The OP there indicated that there was a problem running the MMS app anyway.
I have tried grabbing the MMS.apk from the latest CM9 release for the SGSII, and that exhibits the described problem; the thread list appears, but the app FCs when trying to open a message thread.
---------- Post added at 01:57 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:15 PM ----------
There's also an ICS MMS app on the market, but it has been modified to include ads, so I'm not interested in that one.
Some guys looked at removing the ads, but the thread was shut down (for obvious reasons).

How did you try to install. As an apk. or using root explorer to pass to system/app folder?
Just wanted to bump this thread. I love the AOSP MMS app, and it FC's on me on Samsung LPH firmware. I tried pasting it to system/app, and it fc's when I try to send a message. Hopefully someone can port this apk
I believe you have to replace another apk as well.
If you want a rom that already has it, try Spike's Pure ICS special edition. It has aosp mms, calendar and contacts.

Westcrip's Resurrection Remix 9.4 is really good too. I've been using ever since 9.2 and it's been perfect so far - no FCs or bootloops or any problems at all, really. And apps are AOSP. He also has black versions of AOSP SMS and Market among others, which I love.
+1 for the AOSP mms.apk. Also tried replacing mms.apk with AOSP from different roms but it doesn't work.
I'm using Spike's Pure ICS 6.1, too bad the special edition is only in English. If Spike (or someone else) could give us a working AOSP mms.apk that would be great!
Now who wants AOSP MMS.apk for their S II?!
Download the following zip file and flash it:
http://www.mediafire.com/?8dejky1cqzc14lv
Note:
1. Make sure you flash it only after you have already synced up your contacts with google (do not flash it immediately after flashing a new rom)
2. This zip will replace your SMS app, CONTACTS app, CALENDAR app and your CALCULATOR app to AOSP versions.
3. Be sure you take a nandroid backup before flashing.
4. You must be in a Samsung ICS ROM (XXLPQ only) for this zip to work.
5. I did not create this zip. The credit goes to Spike_M who made this zip that can be flashed to his ROM Pure ICS. Do try out his ROM.
ENJOY!!
Thanks RobinRichard, though unfortunately this didn't work for me on XXLPQ (root with CF-Root). Phone and messaging services die horribly after flashing that zip with CWM -- "phone has stopped" and "messaging has stopped" dialogs constantly pop up
Will have a play when I have a bit more time, but I have restored the Samsung apps for now.

I updated my post. Plz download the new zip and try it. It works well for me.
Im on lpq (litening rom 2.1) and it works perfectly for me too!
I used AOSP mms.apk from Spike's Pure ICS V7.0. It worked well. Btw, I used root explorer to copy the apk in/system/app
Hi,
How did you paste the apk into system/apps? mine says read only ?!?
And also did you just paste 1 file or did you copied a few? like the files in the framework?
Someone have dialer app? =) btw, i'll make a custom rom with dsixda kitchen, so, i put the files in /system/app, right? also for the files in framework folder? right? =)

You can use a program such as Root Explorer to remount it. If you don't have that, there are other ways to do this using adb.
Does anyone happen to have a working mms.apk thaybis the same as the one in cm9? I think the aosp one is horridly ugly as is the Sammy one, but love the one used in cm9. But because it has a long way to go yet I don't wanna run cm9 as an every day driver.
Anyone seen a blur bloatware package for .173 deodexed? I flashed eclipse and I like it but i want the social apps and my gallery etc back I actually like them, call me crazy. Razrx rom had a flashable one but it was odex and for .748. I dont even have to have it flashable I will push them all. If not I'll have to package myself, just trying to be lazy I guess.

I have the exact same question and the same issue! I love the eclipse rom I'm running right now but also miss some of the the Motoblur apps.
I also have a another rooted razr running the stock GB that came with it, so I found all the apk files in the system/app folder, but have not been able to install them onto my razr running the Eclipse ROM. I've placed them in my system/app folder, fixed the permission, and rebooted the device, but no luck.
Please help! Thanks!
I am also interested in this, particularly the text messaging app from stock. I really liked the style of it, but the eclipse theme overwrote it and i couldn't restore the old one because it was not deodexed, I think. If anyone can make the stock text app work that would be appreciated.
My dream is a blur free stock ROM...
With stock agenda,sms/mms,dialer,gallery and configurations menu...

There is a stand alone version of smart action? (i know there is an app called tasker that made the same thing but is mote advanced, but i'm too lazy to undestand how it works)
Is that possible to get STOCK ANDROID Gallery.apk (From Google Nexus 10) to XTZ?
Is that possible to get Browser.apk and Gallery.apk from Xperia Tablet S?
Can anyone test if copying only .apk file to system dir would work?
If by stock browser, you mean the AOSP browser, I got it installed on my XTZ using this app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.mkrtchyan.aospinstaller
The app says my device was not supported but I installed anyways and it worked fine!
Dunno about the stock gallery though.

Still looking for stock AOSP gallery.apk
This method to install AOSP browser does not work on SGP321 10.1.1.A.1.307 Unbranded 4.1.2 STOCK ROM - Like it was not installed, just does not shows in apps.
Can anyone "PORT" working AOSP browser.apk, gallery.apk? If it will work for my device i will donate via paypal, please i really need that apps working on my device.
Ps. Im rooted and made fix for mounting system...
Hi, i make backups of all versions of some of my purchased apps, but i have this problem.
In my Xperia play (Android 2.3.3) i can just copy the apk from data/app to my SD card
But on my Galaxy S4 running (Android 4.2.2) those purchased apps apk don't appear on data/app (or anywhere on the phone) they seem encripted somewhere.
Is this android version related or depends on the phone brand, is there a way to backup these apks, i don't want to have to keep the xperia play just to make app backups.

If they are purchased from the Google Play Store you should be able to redownload them on your new device if needed, though.
Hello everyone,
I'm new on the forum, i just started using my i9100 with custom ROMs, i tried CM10 once but i didn't like it so i went back to stock JB.
Now when i saw that KitKat was available i just said "why don't i give it a try", so i installed omniROM 4.4.2. So far so good, but what i really miss from the stock samsung ROM is the peak/off-peak schedule for default email application.
I use my corporate email account with the default email app (company policy), but in omniROM there is no schedule option like in the latest stock rom for my phone.
So i thought, well lets look for another stock rom for a samsung phone that has 4.4.2 and take the Email.apk and move it to mine. So i downloaded the stock S4 ROM 4.4.2 and i see that there is no Email.apk but SecEmail.apk, i tried to use that file but it doesn't work (copied on recovery mode), i know that i'm doing it right because i tried before with other versions trying to fix that exchange "cannot connect" bug of kitkat.
So my question is this: is there a way to get "peak/off-peak schedule" feature? where i can get the Email.apk that will do that? or what is different with that secEmail.apk that it doesn't work?
Thanks, and sorry if someone asked this before, i searched everywere but didn't find an answer, i don't know why people doesn't ask "where that feature go? or how can i get it back in non stock roms", i find it one of the most useful features, in fact the first time i went back to stock from CM10, that was the reason why.

y#eah thre are many apps on playstore for email try them
^+1....the above is good advice, there are loads of email apps on playstore......
But as for installing the stock email app on a CM rom.....it ain't ever gonna work.......
This is because the stock email app is a 'system' app, and sysrem apps need the touchwiz framework to function. This framework is (obviously) excluded from CM roms........
My wife says I'm a phone geek....She's probably right

Indeed but not so many that correctly works in corporate environment (M$ Exchange). In fact Samsung did quite good job extending his Email.apk with some features that others miss like:
- S/MIME support
- setup of Exchange auto responder (server side)
- folders browser
etc.
BTW can you advice one with such features ?
@bhavstech
so, your first answer gave me point worth to check ...
