Hi guys,
I have noob question, I am gonna flash a new ROM to my phone and since i want to backup all my data and apps, i wanted to use TitaniumBackup. here is wat's bothering me, when i click on backup all user apps + system data it even backups all the system default application like calculator, email, weather etc etc. So if i restore this one a new ROM would it overwrite all the newer system default apps?
Upgrading from 2.3.3 to 2.3.5
Thanks
depends which option u choose... if i remember correctly there is option "batch missing user application/apps" or something along the line.. if u choose that it will only restore the "MISSING" apps.. >>>> doesnt overwrite anything
no
i'm using it a lot and it didn't.
Do not restore system data on a new rom/firmware .
Apps and data only .

My understanding is that when rooting some of the stock apps disappear, eg flashlight, soundcloud.
Does my backup successfully backup these apps without root?
so after I root it, I can restore them
if not, is there any other method to get a proper backup of apps and data without root on the HOX+
thanks

You can backup/restore the apps, but not the data (so your score and progress in games and settings in apps will be lost).

I'm a big mobile gamer so this would really suck. Please tell me there is a way to backup game settings so when the day comes that i can root my ATT version of the HOX+ that these get saved and carry over????

Basically for a newb android user who just purchased this device, what is the best backup app to use on a stock device? Then once i unlock bootloader do i need to restore from a backup or does unlocking bootloader not affect any apps or settings that need restored?
Once I finally Root my device, what is the best root backup app if i wanted to flash roms on the regular and not lose any game progress/data or apps in the process?
So many dang backup apps in the marketplace can't tell which one would be best and you really wouldn't know until you used one, unlocked phone, then find out the app didn't work! LOL. Trying not to find out the hard way, thanks!
ok, I've made a backup of everything I can with My Backup, which as stated, wont keep app data.
I've also made a backup using adb backup
when I attempt root (I've already nuked one HOX+, so going softly softly this time) I'm going to try restoring the adb backup first and hope for success. If not, fall back on the My Backup...backup
Once rooted I intend to use Titanium Backup *root*, I used that on my sensation and it never gave me any trouble
Hey guys i'm running a custom rom and want to update it.
But it has included a automatic clear data.
So I want to back-up all my apps+data , i also want to keep my contacts etc
I have now tb pro. But i don't know which one i need to choose i also don't know how to restore it after i installed the new rom.
After installing new rom tb pro is also gone right?
Can you guys please help me ?
Use batch backup to backup all user apps + system data. Also you'll need the tb apk for re installing after flashing

Indeed, just click on 'Back up' to back up your apps and their data, but only on your own user apps, never system apps. After flashing, install TB from the Play Store and click 'Restore'.

Allright I know how to backup my own user apps. But how can I backup my contacts too? Do i need 2 backups then?

There is no need to backup your contacts, they are automatically backed up by your google account. As soon as you sign in on your new rom it will sync your contacts for you.
If you want to backup your apps you should just use the batch icon in top right and then choose the section for backup of user apps and it will backup your apps and appdata.
On your new simply re-install TB and then use restore option. If it doesnt find your backup location/show backups in batch you will need to go to preferences and choose backup folder location again.
To do all this silently (not click install on each app) you will need to be rooted and have pro version.
PS. This is not a galaxy s2 topic. These types of topics belong in the general/android section as its not device specific.

backup & restore
...there are several ways to do that..
apps
- through tb..normal backup->restore..update.zip...your choice..
- or any other b&r app
contacts
- sync via google
- import/export trough app (.vcf vcard)
- through tb..backup&restore Contacts data then reboot
[Kontakte 4.1.2-eng.root...]
& optional , cause i don´t know atm if needed..[Kontakte-Speicher 4.1.2-eng.root...]
cwm-backup to be save
yes..at the new rom you will have to install tb first in order to use it.
dowload the apk from authors website to your external sdcard
.u could do.
dowload titanium-backup-apk to your phone..
sync your contacts with google..batch-backup all inc sys apps+data..
make a cwm-backup..copy cwm & titanium backup folders to a safe place..
do your rom-update
do the appropriate settings and install tb..restore what you need and have fun :victory:
Or if you've bought titanium backup you could restore it from store after installation

Allright thanks everybody, it worked
it sounds like people switch roms fairly regularly.
but it's my understanding that using a system like Titanium to back up apps and app data should not be used across different roms (like from stock stock, to CM7, to CM10). are people re-installing their apps manually? how are they keeping settings? i have about 50 apps/games, and while appbrain will freshly reinstall the apps themselves from the appstore (saving a lot of time), i'd like to figure out a way to keep the settings too.
thanks in advance for any tips/corrections.
No, that's not the case. You have batch backups that just backup just apps and data. Then you can backup the system files, apps, data. Basically you have multiple options to do several types of backups. It's not one backup for all.

I switch ROM's once a month generally because of glitches in ROM. Like most people just want a switch ROM's for a different feel. What you must be aware of is Google play store reinstalls apps automatically. Not sure how many apps or why.

so am i understanding you correctly that titanium CAN backup (and successfully restore) apps and their settings between different generations of roms, but that it should not be used to back up system files between different roms (which i don't plan to do)?
Correct but changing between Rom's it is best to always back up the whole system. Dont mix Roms system files especially because one is a 4.1.2 version and the other is a 4.2.2 version. Don't forget to use the correct Gapps last night when installing Carbon Rom for Nexus 4 I was installing the wrong Gapps started to loop the boot sequence and shutdown and reboot. Finally it dawned on me i was using Gapps 4.1.2 for a 4.2.2 release.
Best for installs to know adb how to push files across and install roms this way. I have done backups with both adb backup and Titanium backups. The word is one in every 5 backups are bad. Make sure to export them to Dropbox or PC.

I'm on CyanogenMod 10.1.3 ROM on Evo 4G LTE. I did a full Titanium Backup (system, apps, data) and I'm restoring single apps at a time to troubleshoot a couple of issues. Anyway, I restored my sms app (Handcent) but my sms data is all gone. I imagine it's in one of the system files I have to restore from Titanium Backup, but I don't know which file has the data.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Unless you actually backed up SMS specifically, there will be no backup. Backing up the app and data will not backup your messages.

Thanks for the reply. I didn't back up sms specifically, but it was my assumption that one of the android system files backed up by Titanium held the missing data. I assumed this because every time I've flashed a new ROM, I've gotten my sms data by doing a full Titanium restore. This time however, I didn't restore any system data, just apps & app data, because I'm troubleshooting. So, I feel like one of the system data files has the sms data, but of course I don't know which one it is :/

Exactly what I needed to know. Thanks!
If I want to restore my rom from a month ago.....before I added all sorts of new apps (that now don't want), should I only restore the system? or do I also need to restore boot, cache and data?
My question is because I want to keep my current data and settings up to date(as they are).
Thanks in advance for the help
