I was wondering if there was any way to stop the camera app from being retarded and taking pictures in landscape mode. To see what I mean, take a few pics, email them to yourself, download them.
Guessing Samsung is trying to be fancy by using EXIF data to store the pics orientation. Thats cute but I need the photos to actually be in their original orientation, not a lil EXIF tag that says "oh yeah this should be switched around vertically".
Am rooted and would prefer to simply replace the Camera app as opposed to testing out tons of ROMs. This is a work phone so keeping it as vanilla as possible.
Hello, I got the same problem , i would like to know if you find a workaround ?
that's very annoying when sending MMS...

Try third party apps
Swyped from my Samsung Galaxy SII
it appears to work with third party apps like instagram , FX camera ...but not with camera ICS.
but none of this apps are as fast as the original photo app..
besides , the problem appears only when i send a photo by mail or MMS.
The gallery don't seem to use the exif data and the orientation is fine.

Before sending pics via mail, use any photo editor app to change the orientation.

You can rotate the photo in the gallery but that don't change the exif data .3 party apps works and can rotate the photos but that's only a workaround and it is very slow .
The problem appears when i flash cyanogen CM9.1.0 because it seems that the ROM use the exif data with MMS or mail.
With stock samsung ICS , photo orientation was fine.
Im sorry but rotating images before sending is not an option. This is for work where photos are sent in batches of 5 and as many as 20-30 batches are sent everyday. Doing anything manually is simply not a feasible workaround.

Hey guys, whenever i send a Picture Message from a photo taken in potrait, it always sends the picture sideways. ie, all my portrait pictures get rotated 90 degrees, and look as if they were in landscape. My wife has a nexus one, and this issue is non existent. I use chompSMS, but this issue is also present in the stock messaging app, and handcent. i have looked through all the settings, but cannot find what would seem to be the answer. Any help would much be appreciated thanks.
no one else has this issue? or cares lol. Its driving me insane
Crop it before you send it. Works on uploading to Facebook. You can select the full picture but just crop and save and when you upload it the picture will be facing the right way. Strange but true.
But why is this specific to this phone. The nexus one doesnt have this issue. Why would samsung make us go through all this work to send a lousy pic message in portrait mode!
My iphone didn't do it either. But we can only hope it will get fixed on an update.

My iphone 3g, 3gs both did it properly, on at&t and on t-mobile.
I don't have the phone but I suspect it's using the accelerometer to tell how your holding the phone and then automatically rotating it after taking the picture. It's a feature but one I'd like to believe you could turn off in the camera settings? Hope that helps.
I have noticed the same thing, but I have no idea how to "fix" although I suspect its the custom camera app
It's not the messaging app's problem. It's the camera. If you were to take a portait picture, then plug your phone into your computer and view the pictures, they would all be sideways.
It's a really stupid issue that should not exist.
it pisses me off too, if you go into the gallery the pictures are saved the right way but as soon as you send it, its incorrect
Anyone know if this will be resolved in the froyo update? or if there is a hack to fix this?
would his be fixed if I changed the stock to the captivate's camera? Or a different camera app

I have the issue with the stock messaging app in CM10 (10/29/12 nightly) on my Galaxy S2 (Hercules). I know that this is a thread for the Vibrant, but I am looking for solutions as well. I have found that Handcent properly displays pictures taken in portrait mode, but would prefer to use the stock messaging app as the Jelly Bean app has the pop-up/quick reply feature that I used Handcent for.
Struggling to replace dodgy gallery with quickpic on JB 4.1.2 so that the camera uses quickpic as the default viewer.
Tried freezing gallery, when I click on photo in camera nothing happens. Set default app for photos to be quickpic and the camera still uses gallery.
Any ideas. ..?

The first thing I do with a new device is ditch the Gallery in favor of QuicPic.
If you're rooted, no problem just delete the Gallery. If not, go to Settings/Applications/All/Gallery/ and click on Clear Defaults. Next time you view a picture select QuickPic and click on Clear Defaults.

If it was easy you'd of hired the guy at Home Depot to to it.

Thanks guys but not working. Uninstalled gallery. Clicked on a picture, chose quickpic, cleared defaults. When I click on a photo using the camera nothing happens, it's like the camera is hardcoded to use old gallery.will try installing stock camera and trying that

Is it possible to rename quickpic to the same name as old gallery and put it in the system folder?

Thats my question too, but with the nexus 4 gallery.
any solution?
-anyone tried the renaming idea, as suggested?
My guess is the two apps function differently and so google has changed our ability to use quickpic from the JB camera. Why? Think about it - if you use the camera from the lockscreen by swiping to the right, you can take a pic and review it without entering a password and unlocking your phone. But reviewing a pic this way gives you very limited options (eg you CANNOT set it as wall paper, nor can you email it or send it, which if you Could, would be a sneaky security flaw that would enable access into a locked device).
This means google has rewritten gallery to function differently according to whether it has been accessed via the camera from the lockscreen or whether you have accessed the camera after unlocking the device.
Quickpic probably doesn't have that ability, but I wish it DID!
I dunno - MAYBE WE ALL SHOULD EMAIL THE MAKERS OF QUICKPIC AND REQUEST THAT IT BE UPDATED SO AS T WORK WITH THE STOCK CAMERA?
Quickpic is an awesome app and it's way better than the stock gallery app!
when you disable gallery in apps manager it disables both the gallery and camera which means that their obvously linked together. they are both separate apks but still both part of the same app therefore meaning that it wouldnt really be possible to do it i dont think unless you were to modify the gallery app yourself you might be able to do it but would be hard XD from what i can think the camera apk kinda acts like a link if you think about it as opposed to its own app.
QuickPic cannot view TIFF files. I have alot of them copied from my PC to the SD card and cannot find a viewer that can see both those and the Jpegs. Anyone have any ideas?

I'm about to smash my Photon and I need some help. I recently upgraded to peetr's custom 2.3.5 hybrid ROM so I could use TMobil. The only camera app I can get to work with photobucket uploading is the stock camera. I've tried 3 other camera apps, and every time I select "photobucket" as the "Share this photo" destination, I get the "Media added to photobucket queue" message....and that's it. No uploading. No errors, nothing. If I use the stock camera to take a pic and select photobucket, it uploads just fine.
The problem is, the stock camera is tied into "Gallery ICS" and I can't separate them. In my previous setup, when I took a pic with the stock camera, then clicked on that pic in the bottom left corner, the pic would pop up full screen and I could check it out and upload or delete it.
In peetrs ROM, when I take a pic and then click on it, it opens Gallery ICS, which then shows me a thumbnail of every fricking folder anywhere on my camera I have a photo saved. WTF? I don't understand why anyone could possibly want that behavior from a camera app, but whatever. I've scoured the settings and I can't find any way to stop Gallery ICS from popping up when I want to view a pic in the camera.
Does anyone know how to fix the photobucket uploading issue or force the camera to just let me view a pic when I click on it?

Just a thought that you could try actually searching the the first post of this ROMS thread. The answer is right there under the optional APKs.
BlurCamera with gallery choice - mainly for Quickpic (pictures must be on internal SD)
That should hopefully fix your issue. I'll test with my photobucket to see if I can make it upload.

I have the new camera working, but when I click on a pic to view it, I get "Media Gallery not installed". This happens regardless of which storage location is selected (internal or SD). Am I supposed to install something else?

If you can't set the photo gallery that launches, I would just move on to trying a different/previous camera. Can you go to manage apps and clear any defaults that would be causing it to only use that gallery?
Sorry, wish I could be more help.

Yes, I've cleared data, it did nothing. I really don't understand how this replacement camera is supposed to work, if it even does. Has anyone here successfully swapped out their stock camera with the one linked in the first post and have it working? If so, could you please respond?
This is the most frustrated I've been in 3 years, 2 cameras and a dozen roms. The stock camera and Camera ICS on this rom blinds everything with the flash making them unusable. This replacement camera doesn't blind everything with the flash, but it throws this damn "Media Gallery not installed" error. I just want crap back like it was, where I had a stock camera with a flash that didn't blind everything and let me open pics to view them without showing me every picture gallery on the camera. Of course I can't go back to that rom since I flashed the KDDI radio.
I'm sure some of y'all used a iPhone before.
When you use the camera app, Snapchat, Instagram, whatsapp, Facebook camera.
The quality is the same.
But if you do the same with SOME Android phone. Especially if it has dual cameras than you get mix results.
With a dual camera like the v30 you can't pick the default camera to open on a app.
(ex: whatsapp uses the wide angle and instagram uses the normal camera)
The camera quality is horrible! "ex: camera quality looks burry on instagram"
Is there a way over this?

Use the app's ability to choose from Gallery. I always do that. EVERY app like Facebook, WhatsApp lets you choose from your Gallery.
The only time I use an app to actually take a picture is for my banking app to deposit checks. (Some apps will even let you choose from ANYWHERE on your phone, like Download folder through a file explorer but Facebook does not -- it only lets you choose Gallery.
Just this morning I went into WhatsApp to verify the exact steps. You choose the "camera" symbol, then from there you can either take a picture or "swipe up for Gallery". It's written right there on the page in WhatsApp interface.
When I choose from the Gallery, I know the picture is exactly the way I want it, cropped right, etc. With the LG V30, you would then have also chosen which of the three cameras you wanted to take the picture with -- either of the two front cameras or the selfie camera.

The phone camera does have filters to make shots look better... There's a couple of threads in this forum devoted to that.
But you're right -- you're not going to have the comic filters and stuff.
I have a question about my wife's F1.
I just noticed that she doesn't use a proper app to view the gallery (i.e., view photos taken on her device). When she takes a photo, she can look at it by selecting it in the stock camera app at the bottom. Then, when she wants to look for more photos taken in the past, she flicks through the photos ONE BY ONE (I think this is still the camera app).
Now, there is also a stock gallery app (it's called "Photos" in English, I assume). Why the hell is this not linked up to the camera app in the first place? The follow-up question would be, how do I configure the camera app to always use "Photos" for viewing pictures taken?
Thanks guys for any advice!

No, this is definitely not Google Photos. She doesn't use that - and I know how it looks. This was just some kind of image preview. Definitely not a gallery.
In a gallery, you can see many photos at once, and scroll through days/weeks/months, select photos, share them, etc.
Other people on the internet mention a shortcut to the gallery in the stock camera app of the F1, but from what I can tell, nothing like that here. Maybe I can post a picture later.
No one here has experienced this? Or maybe knows how to change the gallery app?

Even if you set Google Photos as the default app... The Camera interface opens the default gallery.
