Thats a big diffrence so What do you guys use/recommend? Thanks

smartassv2 is great for battery life and speed but non of the ics kernels support it yet. i believe there is only 1 gb kernel that has it as well.

and we dnt have any overclock kernel so no use of changing setting..!
and why u have to change setting...u can only reduce ur processor..!
Yup you could reduce clock speed if you want to save battery but it's not very stable.
Also the processor runs originally at 600 mhz but was overclocked by Samsung.

That's not true. The processor is designed to run at 800 by Qualcomm, as it is the newer "turbo" version of msm7227.
so, SetCPU does not working?! But why? I have SetCPU and i have the profiles:
ALL CHARGING: min 254 max 800 prior 100
Screen off: min 122 max 245 prior 78
Battery < 25%: min 245 max 480 prior 75

This is optimal settings with "system logic", and now my cell working for a 2 day with much loading information and intensive using.
It heats up very quickly with the new update 2.3 the
998 MHz microprocessor works all the time.

I can not confirm that.
Pointed this out a while ago with no replies from anyone. If you look at time in state in setcpu, you see that both go up at the same time but more time is spent at 1ghz. My phone is staying cool though but I'm worried about the cpu working too much.

Same here. Always on 998 MHz or Deep-Sleep. ~1% on 245MHz, the rest nearly 0%...
but it's weird, battery life is great...better than 2.1, yet all it's using is 1GHz or deep sleep, nothing inbetween...

I've found out that was an application that was killing it.... I've removed the app and now is rolling well...
CPU does indicate 998Mhz all the time even when it's not doing anything... Does this "ruin" the CPU?

I am S-On running Shrike's PAC cm10 rom with his latest Erhmagad kernel set to lionheart governer and ROW i/o scheduler. My min CPU frequency is 192 MHz and my max is 1404 MHz but im still only getting decent battery life.
What are the optimal CPU settings for someone who uses their phone primarly for text messaging, youtube, emails, browsing the web, etc. I don't really do much power gaming. I heard on some thread that there is no power usage difference between 192 and 384 MHz is this true?
im using funky kernel 2.2 and im also interested in what are some good settings to start out with...

I have found 384 to be better than 192. At least on my phone.

The difference is almost negligible, and at 384MHz, things can finish up their work faster and get back to deep sleep faster. In general though, like so many other things it depends a lot on your individual usage pattern.

They're very different in how they work so it's hard to even do a direct comparison. smartassV2 is based on the interactive governor and does a lot of "fast-peaking" where it jumps to high frequencies more quickly and more often. Lionheart is conservative based, so it moves through the individual frequencies more smoothly, but it doesn't increase as quickly. I've tested smartassV2 in my kernel, but haven't pushed it in an official update yet, because I haven't gotten it tuned to a point where I'm happy with it. For my use, I've found lionheart to be quite smooth and pretty easy on battery.
If you want some comparison, dancedance is probably the closest thing to lionheart in Funky Kernel, but dancedance scales a bit different and has some different sleep routines, so it acts a little different under light load.
Is there a way to underclock the cpu to 500 Mhz for example, for battery saving?

A great way to reduce heat generated on the xperia 1 iii/5 iii also gain bit more battery life.
There was a debate on why the snapdragon 888 heats up and the 2 reasons most told was ''Samsung's manufacturing process'' and that the "GPU was overclocked to 800+ Mhz to excel in benchmark"
I reduced the GPU freq to 491 Mhz, I had top temp 45 Celsius, before it went past 50 Celsius . So in the end reduced a bit of CPU and GPU and got good battery life and way less hot.

Any settings from this application is temporary, as you restart the phone the frequency are back to default, only change maximum freq nothing else don't change the governors.
My settings:
CPU 1: Max freq = 998 Mhz
CPU 2: Max Freq = 1.2 Mhz
CPU 3: Max Freq = 1.3 Mhz
GPU : Max Freq = 419 Mhz
Try and post the experience and if any improvement (Mention with region model numbers)

Yes it wont stick, untill you flash modified kernel it doesn't stick but if you dont reboot it wont go. Also after setting the frequency, wait for the phone to sleep once then temperature stays to a max and for me the battery life increased, without any performance degrade.
Yeah the issue is there is no modified kernel out there for our device. Kirisakura kernel does not fully support our xperia 1 iii. Sony haven't released their source code.
Try the application and if you dont like to keep the application you can remove it, still it keeps the frequency you set, till you restart the device. Main for heating up in phone is the GPU, as per what i learned, reducing its frequency itself , reduced heat a lot. Try and let know your SOT and heat temperature avg.
Yeah i have EXkernel manager it indeed lessen the heat specially when gaming.
Kirisakura kernel supports our device now..
