Then don't use rom manager, flash straight from cwm recovery.

Well yes, but you asked why flash that kernel, and that's why.
Unless you have a version number fetish and want cwmv5!
When I said, works well with cm7, i ment works well with rom manager to install cm7

What I did was flash the codeworkx kernel with Odin (I was using cf root previously) and then flash CM/ from the new clockworkmod recovery I got. I didn0t have any problems, but you have to do a full wipe and I suggest you format \system also.
Hi I'm using siyah kernal and if I'm correct its supposed to boot into that red recovery? Well mine usually does, and now it keeps booting into a purple recovery called siyah recovery... and siyah kernal will not work none of my buttons work on it... andorst of all my phone will not boot up it keeps taking me straight to recovery I can't even get into download mode... and no I haven't even done any recent changes... any fix?

That makes sense. There were two versions of 2.6.11. The first one was red and worked fine. The second "purple" one was giving recovery errors, like the ones you mentioned. Did you just upgrade to 2.6.11?
Try flashing this version of 2.6.11, if you're able to flash.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21864326&postcount=1068
Otherwise, get the 2.6.12 tar file from the OP in that thread, or get any "tar" version of Siyah from Gokhanmoral's website (other than 2.6.11) and flash it through ODIN.
Hey thanks for the tips, but for some odd reason the purple recovery began working

I'm curious if anyone else is or has experienced issues with ClockworkMod Recovery 5.8.1.8?
When I boot to recovery I see, CWM-based Recovery v5.5.0.4
I've flashed CWM 5.8.1.8 and then I see the version change but, if I reboot the phone or reboot recovery it reverts back to v5.5.0.4....
Any tips, tricks, or ideas?

hhmm..., Actually as I stated I'm using CWM-based Recovery v5.5.0.4...
While it's an assumption, CWM stands for ClockWorkMod?

No. Short answer, No.
Long answer, No, I just posted a picture of what i'm using. (did you see it?)
I'm rebooting into ClockworkMod recovery.
I then select install zip from sdcard
I then select choose zip from internal sdcard
and select the appropriate .zip file.
then recovery reboots into v5.8.1.8.
I'm not trying to use any app within the running OS to flash the newer version.
Is that clearer?

Okay that helps me out now that you finally answered my question, so you're trying to flash a newer version of cwm from the older version of it? Or are you flashing a rom too, I never worry about flashing cwm as all roms/kernels have a ones packaged in I feel it's unnecessary

yep, that's all I'm trying to do.
I've done the same thing to upgrade CWM on my old Atrix. So I'm not sure why it isn't working this time... Can't imagine the process would have changed.
I moved the .zip file to the external sd card and flashed it but that still didnt work. it didn't work when i tried to flash it with odin either.

Personally I would just leave it it isn't a huge deal, or flash a kernel that has a newer version

This isn't an Atrix and recovery on the GS2 is not like any other phone. You can flash that zip all day long its not going to do a thing.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but it's my understanding that cwm is baked into the kernel. Without changing to a kernel with the new CWM, it will always come back to whatever the kernel you are running has baked into it.

Absolutely correct. Its not as simple as a good old recovery.img anymore.

Use the Siyah kernel and it has the touch clockworkmod recovery baked in. The others above are correct, it is something that has to be changed in the kernel. When the first touch recovery came out I too tried it the way you did by flashing it in regular cwm. Then you will see and can use it. BUT it does not stick because it has to he added into tue kernel.

It can he used the same way basically with using the buttons for volume +/- and power to select. Or clicking on whatever option, or sliding your finger up or down to the selections and double tapping to select. It is kind of a cool featute bit not that big of a deal. I am using my own personal made version that is basically the same as hos rom and you can use the siyah kernel that came/comes with it and it has the touch version of cwm so you can try it out. I dont usually spend much time while in cwm except to flash things. So it is not a huge deal or deal breaker either way.

It all started yesterday when I was using my GT-P7500 (Rooted and Running Slimbean 4.1.2 ROM), I left it alone and I got some rest. After a few minutes it powered off unexpectedly. The following day I tried to flash the stock 3.1 using Odin3 v1.85, Odin said it passed, I looked at my tablet it was doing something it was supposed to do, it then went to the Samsung Logo (Not the Boot Animation) after that it got stuck in a bootloop, I tried going to stock recovery but it was no use, I couldn't get there. I can attachments if you can't understand what I am saying.
It now takes forever to flash stock rom.
My friend said to use another version of Odin3 so I used v3.04, But now it takes forever to flash, CAny help will be gladly appreciated.
Maybe try to flash a custom recovery and then flash another custom ROM, or flash stock ics ROM

I'll try that later, but my tab is taking forever to flash the stock rom, What will happen if I remove it?
Please help!!!!
Odin3 said that it was a failure, now my tab says "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again."
I selected emergency firmware recovery but my device doesn't show up. What should I do? Should I just turn it off ,charge it and try to use Odin3 again?:crying::crying::crying::crying::crying:
You just want your tab to boot right? If its not stock does it matter? If not, flash cwm recovery, make a full wipe then flash a custom ROM.

I flashed CWM and it was a success, now I tried going to CWM Recovery, but with no avail. It just says
Code:
# MANUAL MODE #
-- Updating Application...
Then after that, it will just say the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Logo.
If I flash the Stock ICS Rom, will this resolve my problem?
You can try, but I'm not really sure though. I think you need experts help.

just flash CWM via recovery mode and then flash a custom rom via CWM...
