[Q] Can't figure out what I'm missing! - HTC Rezound

Hey all I'm trying to flash rom REZOUND - Stock Root Deodexed 3.11.605.1.zip with PH98IMG from http://www.theandroidsoul.com/htc-rezound-ics-leak-3-11-605-1/. I was able to change the mainver in the ph98 file and that updates just fine but when I try to flash the rom itself it flashes okay but then it reboots to the white screen that says htc and doesn't go past that. Not sure what I missing, any help would be great! Thanks in advance.

I would stick to roms that have support threads for them so that when you have questions, you can ask the relevant people using that rom rather than asking a general question from people who most likely are not using what you are trying.
There are lots of ROMS for the Rezound located in http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1392 that have support threads.

Sounds like the kernel isn't flashing , are you sure its not failing installation and your just not seeing the error message ?
What main ver do you have ? there is a new tool on the developement forum that will automatically reset your mainver so you don't have to mess with changing the PH98IMG file . Otherwise not sure what your doing wrong.

Agreed. It sounds like you don't have the right boot image flashed for your ROM. try flashing it via fastboot and you should get a clean boot.

[Q] Newb Question and problem..

Does the thunderbolt need to be rooted to upload a stock PG05IMG from my SD card? Im trying to load PG05IMG_Mecha_VERIZON_WWE_1.12.605.6_Radio_1.16.00.0223r_NV_8k_1.41_9k_1.64_release_174685_signed.zip from my SD card as my handset is stuck at the bootup screen, thus wont reload through an RUU.
The phone was previously rooted by someone else and I did a system clear through the clockwork recovery (Version 3.1.0.2) menu to wipe their info. Afterwards, it only showed the bootscreen. Oops....
Ive tried to load the aforementioned file through the bootloader screen by renaming it PG05IMG.zip, etc, but the phone keeps rejecting it.

What exactly are you trying to do? Completely unroot the thing and put S-On? I'd like to be sure before I dole out instructions. And why such an old RUU? Why not the 1.70 RUU. And how was the Tbolt rooted and S-Off'd before?
Honestly, Im just trying to get it to boot again as easily as possible. I dont care if it's rooted, unrooted, anything, I'd just like it to work.
I grabbed the old RUU because I figured I could update from there. It actually makes no difference to me at this point what's on it, I just want it to work again. lol

I hope wiser minds than mine chime in, but I don't think flashing an old RUU would be wise if Revolution was used. Revolution replaces the hboot and I don't think flashing a new RUU replaces it. I'm not sure what bad would come of it, actually.
It sounds to me like you just need to flash a new ROM. I don't know what radios you have, but you probably have newer ones since those are the radios of choice for newer ROMs. I'd try that first. If that doesn't do it, then I think what needs to happen next it to figure out what hboot you have. If it was done via the jcase method, then flashing an RUU should work fine. If not, well... I'm not an expert on that front, but there are threads on that subject. I wish I could dish out a real simple answer, but I'm not sure it so simple.
Definitely sounds like all that is needed in the OP's case is to flash a new ROM (custom or stock) from recovery as loonatik suggested or possibly restore a backup if one exists. Just sounds like /system was formatted and nothing flashed afterwards.

Thanks for confirming. If you can hold volume-down while powering it up and get into ClockworkMod, flashing another ROM is just a matter of a few button pushes.
Exactly what I thought. I've loaded custom roms on the a855 and Eris before, but the above file won't load. I'm wondering if the bl is locked but it has clockwork, so I'm confused...
That's an entire RUU. That's why. Go get just a ROM and flash through clockwork.
Hey just wanted to say that worked and thank you very much. I am a bit curious however as to why the full RUU didnt work...

A full RUU contains a LOT more than just a ROM. It must also be flashed differently; through the bootloader and not recovery. An RUU contains a new bootloader and radios, as well as a ROM. If you'd flashed that RUU correctly through the bootloader, you probably would have lost S-Off and root, or ended up with a device that did even less desirable things... like bootloop.
Thats what I actually tried to do. I renamed and tried to upload through bootloader but it failed. I've flashed RUU's before but never had the issue which worries me a bit. Could be my "bad luck" saved my butt from a more serious issue.
However I loaded the PlainJane rom and it appears I killed my radio now so my journey through aggravation has not yet ended. lol. Im going over your very helpful Q&A post now and seeing if I have a compatible radio for the ROM.
Edit: Nevermind, it seems to be good to go. Thanks again for the help.

in the rom thread most devs put what radios are compatible and a link to the radio. Not sure how new plainjane is, but most of the newer radios work with all the custom roms.

If you used Revolution or updated to the patched bootloader, it's designed to not allow flashing over. That's probably why it failed.

[Q] WIND stock Kernel

I am trying to go back to stock and I am able to flash the stock rom however wifi does not work, I have tried relocking the bootloader and running the RUU exe that was provided in another thread however that fails even if i am on another rom such as Beasmod. Is there anything i can do to get wifi working again? I have searched the forum for a day or two now and I cannot find a good answer.
Thanks everyone

kernel issue, each provider seems to have a little tweak in their own kernel, or something to that effect.
common problem that still hasn't been adressed in the forums, I have found a solution, go to development http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1308078. and download your corresponding rom zip file...in the rom zip file, there should be a boot.img file, extract ONLY that file and use it in xboarders kernel flasher to reflash your kernel and reboot...get back to me...this should solve your problem..
Yes I did

This worked perfectly, i didnt use the easy kernel flasher as i seem to have issues running .bat files on my work computer, so i just entered the commands manually. Thank you very much

[Kernels] ICS/GB + ICS to GB | Flashable via Recovery + How To Guide [01/19/2012]

I've seen a lot of issues with flashing roms since the ICS leaks and want to do the best I can to help. Therefore, consider this a guide, if you will, on an "easier" way to flash.
If you know what you're doing, skip to post #2 in this thread, it contains pre-built kernels for your flashing happiness!
I want to start by saying that using the CleanFLASH 1.0 by scrosler (thanks) tool is easier to do if you have a PC. Follow his instructions and you'll be pleased. However, it lacks if you're not sitting in front of a computer, thererfore, this guide is simply an alternative..
As a base, I am using dsb9938's 1.1.3 kernel for GB as a guide.
If you aren't familiar, use the search tool or simply look through the kernels listed for the rezound.
To make that easier, see this post
This method can be used for Gingerbread as well as Ice Cream Sandwich, so long as you make sure to follow it exactly, use the correct kernel and correct android-info.txt file to update your mainver. Warning: Updating the mainver (android-info.txt) will most likely prevent you from being able to RUU. However, you can flash back and fourth between all the GB/ICS roms just fine. You've been warned...
I want to stress, I am not responsible for any damage you may cause, do this at your own risk! Please read through the ENTIRE guide before attempting to make sure you fully understand and don't hesitate to ask questions, everyone is here to help...
Things you need:
a) A kernel file. These are normally PH98IMG.zip files with an android-info text file and the boot.img file for that specific kernel.
Example: If you're booting a rom for ICS currently, you're going to want either demon's or the stock/leaked kernel. It can be found here for linux/mac/windows
b) Android-Info.txt (found in the zip for #2)
c) DSB's kernel 1.1.3 found here
d) Winzip
e) Some spare time and patience.
This process, once you figure it out, takes like 5 minutes, seriously.
1) Extract DSB's kernel to your computer, name it appropriately.
Inside of it will be 3 folders, "kernel, META-INF and system".
We only need to access the Kernel folder.
In it are 4 files, copyToSD.sh, PH98IMG.zip, rebootToBootloader.sh and sleep.sh.
2) Extract PH98IMG.zip there.
3) Take the kernel file (boot.img, you may have to unzip the kernel you downloaded) you're going to be using with your NEW rom and place it in the PH98IMG folder that you unzipped, overwrite the boot.img file that is there currently. If you download a new kernel file and it's already in PH98IMG.zip format, you can skip to step 5
4) Likewise, replace the android-info.txt file with the one from the NEW kernel you downloaded also.
5) Zip the files back up as PH98IMG.zip. (Highlight both, right-click, add to archive, change to ZIP if necessary, name it PH98IMG.zip, use any compression) If you already have a PH98IMG.zip file that you downloaded, simply overwrite the original.
6) Now that you have done that, it's time to zip up the whole directory. Go back where you see the 3 folders and highlight them, follow the same procedure for step 5, however name this zip anything you like, something that reminds you which kernel it is would be helpful. for instance: DSBICSKernel1 or something
7) Place this bad boy on your EXTERNAL SDCARD.
8) Flash ROM of your choice
9) Flash Kernel you created...
10) After if flashes the kernel zip file it will throw you into hboot, hightlight bootloader, hit power and it should find PH98IMG.zip.
If you used the correct android-info.txt file, it should allow you to flash the update by hitting power.
11) After it flashes, reboot device and ENJOY!!!
See post#2 for pre-built kernels flashable via recovery.
Big, big thanks to jcase, Scrosler, Con247, Tachie, x3demond3x, Newtroot, dsb9938, dmeadows013, lllboredlll and many others. This is all derivatives from all of them, without them this post, information and all would not be at all possible!
Simply drop onto your external SD card and flash via recovery. Can be flashed before or after a rom, after is normally the best method.
Full credit to dsb9938 for permission to use his 1.1.3 GB kernel as a base! I should note, these kernels are not mine, they are what I extract from roms that are put out, I simply organized them into one post and gave an alternate way to flash them.
Flash this to get to AOSP ICS (should work with any AOSP build) -Download.
Flash this to get from ICS back to GB - Download
Flash this to get to SENSE ICS - Download
All kernels current as of 1/19/12
There is already a guide for all of this.

can you provide a link please?
Cleaned up the first post a bit, for being rushed I feel it's worded fairly well, feedback would be appreciated.
Post #2 now contains a kernel for AOSP ICS as well as a zip to get you back to GB from ICS.
Enjoy!

Welcome sir, I'll continue adding these as necessary, it's nice to have all of it in one spot, yanno?
why when I flash the Clean 2.0 ICS ROM after the flash it goes into fastboot. I push the power button and it tries to flash but then comes back and says Main Version is older and then it fails.
I flashed the Kernel you provided and it flashed just fine. It went into fastboot as its suppossed to do and then all went well from there for the PMG img file. The ROM loaded up but I have no 4G or 3G indication. I have a few bars but its like the radio is not working.
BTW Thank you for posting this information.

I had the same situation with Senseless, my best explanation is that I have a newer android-info file, but haven't really looked. You have to enable mobile usage on the rom after you get it booted up.... go to settings > data usage and enable it

NOOOOOO!!!!! Take out that newer file! Make it a separate download for people that have the mainver error. You don't want to be updating people mainvers! They will get updated by flashing this! If that happens they can't run an RUU to fix their phones until an official ICS one comes out.

While I 100% respect your opinion sir... I've personally been going back and fourth just fine, I just re-apply the appropriate mainver. I also explained in the OP that this is at peoples own risk... XDA is full of dangerous things you can do and people learn lessons by flashing willy nilly. What is a big deal to some may not be a big, big deal to others, I've been flash crazy on this phone since I got it a week ago and haven't ran into a situation to RUU yet... that said folks, if you're not comfortable doing this, please find another solution.
EDIT: I updated the OP to reflect the behavior updating the mainver may cause to be safe.

The AOSP kernel itself is from x3demond3x i believe, it's whatever was in the aosp builds currently out, I take no credit for it. The files are named dsb since the scripts are based from his 1.1.3 kernel file for gingerbread.

Unless I'm mistaken, all kernels for ICS to this point are based on stock HTC kernels and will not currently support OC. However, they score very well at 1.5 on Antutu

Well with the information provided you can find the other android-info.txt files around and experiment to suit your needs, i'll take a look at it later and see if I need to upload an alternative if that one fails. Thanks for the feedback
So now my mainver is changed and I can't flash back to the stock ics kernel... I am stuck on your "dsb sense ics" kernel and it is unstable as hell. The moment I try to make or receive a phone call, I immediately go into boot loop.. how can I get back to the stock kernel please? Your return to GB kernel womt flash either. I think I'm screwed until somebody makes a more stable kernel with the new mainver.

[Q] Problems flashing RezRom S4 MainVer help!

So I'm posting this here because I don't have enough posts to post in the thread for the Rom its self.
I updated my firmware and flashed this rom exactly like it said to in the thread, and I wiped everything before i flashed the rom its self, then flashed the rom, then the kernel install because I am s-on. This is where my problem lies, I did some searching and maybe I'm missing knowledge to do what posts relating to this said to do but when it went to flash the kernel in hboot, it gave me the Main Version is Older alert and the option to reboot. Now I'm stuck either going back to hboot just to have it try to reflash the kernel and bring back the error message or stuck at the sweet bootscreen |||bored||| put in this rom. If anyone can help me get past this this flash this kernel successfully it would be a big help and a big thank you from me.
I have the .zip that you can flash to write the main version in order for it to get over this problem but I have no idea how to get into recovery from where I'm at, it cant get passed the failed flashing in hboot and adb commands wont load recovery for me.

The fix is listed in boreds rezrom thread in one of his first couple posts. It even says mainver fix...
Sorry didn't read all the way. Lol my bad. Been awake 30+ hours now.
So two things you can do. Put the micro SD card into another phone or computer and temp remove the ph98img.zip file.
Two is pull the micro SD card out about halfway and put the battery in so it touched the contacts and turns on but don't put pressure on the micro SD card. Boot into hboot then lift the battery while pushing it against the contacts and push the microsd in and then volume down to recovery and power to chose and your in the recovery.

Got it, thanks a ton!
I like the SD card halfway in trick because I don't have a micro sd to computer adapter that did the trick for me

{GUIDE} How to go back to stock or fix brick or stuck on boot screen

Hi guys most of you are noobs like me but when i get a devise i do a lot of research cuz i tend to mess with them and usually end up
getting bricked or stuck on boot screen but in the end i end up fixing them through lots of research...
OK well today ima help you fix your htc amaze, im not a developer im just an android lover...
First you have to go to this website and download this 457mb zip file http://d-h.st/rfa ...
my guess now is that you have downloaded this file and have somehow transferred it to a micro sdcard
so what you have to do now is boot into your custom recovery which can be 4EXT or TWRP if you dont have
any try flashing it with this http://d-h.st/mue ...
OK Now that we Are on the custom recovery we are going to flash the 457mb Zip file and remember to do a complete
wipe (factory reset, cache and Dalvik) once you wiped this 3 things flash the zip like you would any custom rom...
IF YOU JUST WANT TO FIX A BRICK OR STUCK ON BOOT SCREEN STOP HERE AND CHECK FOR ROOT ACCESS*
IF YOU DONT HAVE ROOT ACCESS YOU WILL HAVE TO ROOT IT AGAIN YOU SHOULD KNOW HOW TO DO THAT
BUT IF YOU WANT TO GO BACK TO COMPLETE STOCK KEEP FOLLOWING THE GUIDE...
this will take less than 10 minutes from start till end and its NOOB PROOF im an advance noob i know what im telling you...
now you will be booted on stock t-mobile ICS and you will need to check if you have superuser on you app drawer
if you dont have it then good and we can go to the final step which is restoring stock recovery image... to do this is simple
download this http://dl.dropbox.com/u/19769336/recovery.img and run "Amaze 3.2" then on the top right box you will
find use your own image or something like than and you will pick the image you have just downloaded....
After this you are done and have an htc amaze like if you have just gotten it from the store...
SORRY FOR THE MESS BUT ITS MY FIRST GUIDE HOPE IT HELPS MANY OF YOU AND IF THERE ARE ANY OTHER
QUESTIONS SEND ME A MESSAGE AND I WILL RESPOND AS SOON AS I CAN
there's some critical info missing here... first off "Deodexed" isn't stock its "stock like" without bloatware its not the official stock RUU, and next is that Deodexed file for GB or ICS? and what if they have a different carrier besides t-mobile? i think there's a little more information missing but overall this seems like a guide to flash a Deodexed stock rom and get root
Thanks for the extra info ill edit the post with the some of the info u just posted
