Hello , i bought with a contract a xperia about 1 month ago , after 1 week i was disappointed :
1. i shutdown phone put him on charge at 11 pm at 5am i unplugin him and go to work , after 3-4 calls max 1 min each and aprox. 5 min chat on gtalk or yahoo my battery it is dead aprox. 5h-8h , in the backround i kept yahoo messenger on , gtalk on, autosync on (because of mail), and the first widget from market for battery.
2. unplug the phone after it is full charge at 10 pm , all things go on like up (gtalk, yahoo, etc) at 5am the phone has 52% battery (without touch all night)
3. confirmed not only me but all my friends seems like only when the screen it is on (need to watch clock example) in the rear speaker if i leasen somewhere is silence , i hear like the front speaker when u don`t hear the partner bzzzzz that sound u know someone it is listen but don`t want to speak something like that...
after this i go to Service Center and told that women the problems ... after 4 days the phone it is back and the phone it is perfect in terms on service center.
Go next day explain again to that women the problem and told me TURN OFF DATA CONNECTION ...ok turn off but the gmail ? how i supose to guess when i receveid mail ? i give back to service to a riguros test
Now only thing i need to now that stupid sound on the rear when the screen it is on , it is here someone who has ?? I think it is a short ciurcuit and the service center here it is the worst in all country i must fight to see if something it is wrong They don`t here nothing ...they are deaf .
Please it is here someone with that sound or it is only in my phone that way i now how to abort the situation
Tnx sry for my rusty english
Through, there can be plenty of reasons to that, but I'll give it a shot.
Try setting this option: http://talk.sonymobile.com/message/143576
i was try to set only gsm the same rezult aprox. my battery only 1-2 h longer but there it was a signal problem and he show the cell , idle consume on my it show only screen when idle 50% (night) , and when using it is reach max 92% and stay min 80% like i was playng games / stay on call 3g (in the manual talk time in 3g is 5h and some minutes) , from here i thinck it is short circuite the rear speaker with screen
Autosync, gTalk and Messenger are apps, that when running in background, do use a lot of battery.
About email syncing automatically. gMail can be synced manually, just open the app, click menu button and there is Refresh.
Also, if your phone has weak signal/no signal, it uses very much battery to get signal. My LWW has the same thing, on some days, screen uses less battery than antenna, because of bad 3G signal here, so I sometimes use only 2G.
i have H all time i`m in big city don`t have problem with signal ....sorry and i know that apps use battery its not my first android but this is the worst ... and need only to see if people have that sound when screen it is on ....the battery it is ok , signal ok,don`t play any games, don`t use browser (for the moment) , don`t need wifi bt gps etc. so it is off.
regular smartphone need to reach with gmail autsync and that messengers about 24h
tested on 6 phone !!!!
Already answered in another thread
HERE
I willd do that , i don`t think will help me (formating , let on charge 24h when was discharge complet etc.) for the moment and will try to wipe battery stats when full discharge
there whas a problem off calibration on mine it is show from 1%-100% don`t have problem with shutdown forced

Callibration can fix battery drain problems, not only force shutdown ( it's not FORCE shutdown at all, OS thinks thats still 28%, in fact battery is empty)
Calibrating the battery by deleting the file doesn't help. This file is recreated every time battery is fully charged anyway and doesn't affect the battery.
Also, completely discharging is not needed, nowadays smartphones have batteries, that do not have memory effect(Li-Ion and Li-Po).

Updated my Mini to 2.1 from 4 days now-
Rooted using z4rot just to load setCPU.
2.1 in general is not so much different from 1.6, at least for normal user.
No significant performance improvement, no killer new functions. Just a "fine tuning work" in my opinion.
The bad come in just 2 areas.
1- Antenna reception.
Using 1.6 where I live I have a steady 3g network. Using 2.1 some time I discover that I'm under GPRS (i think the H icon mean GPRS, I'm voda so at least in Italy no EDGE network)
The antenna sensitivity is whorst than before...
2- Battery
Battery life is TERRIBLE using 1.6 I can go for an entire day (at least 8am-6pm)
Now in a few hours (4-5 not more) I have to recharge.
BT off, Wifi off.
Anyone experienced such decay of battery?
Can be the rooting process?
Any suggestion?
I have to try to switch off 3g but I dont like to use the slow GPRS so im not inclined in doing it1
H is HSPA which is 3G and others fast networks. If you had GPRS there would be G on your phone But i was confused too first time.
Battery seems same like before. I browse net, play games and listen music alot, so i need to recharge every night anyway. I'd guess some app eat it and maybe after some restarts it will settle. Synchronizing g-mail with phone ate alot of battery for me... but after a while its ok.
Ok, thanks for the H tips. So "H" is better that 3g!
Wow.
For battery life: yes I use google service so is always in sync
I think is one of the whorst design flaw of Android.
I like to be able to "open" sync in time I choose, for ex 10 min. in a windows of 30 min, ecc.
No software on the market do this automatically and ia polished way.
Can be set CPU causing more problem that the battery can save?
Disable Background data
Switch off Wifi Bt when not in need
then charge it when around 20% battaery
Doing this my battery life now is 2-3 days
Earlier with 1.6 it was 1 day max
wifi and bt are alredy off. background data?
turning that off is like to use a nokia of some years ago..
I depend on gmail etc.
intresting the tips of 20%, so you not charge at end of battery?
just when is arrived at 20%?
how it can have such effect?
with setcpu my battery now lasts for 20-24h, keeping minimal frequency at 122 and with ondemand scaling.
bt on for 2-3h, wifi on only when needed, sync always on but, the most important, only 2g. 3g uses a lot of your juice, use it only when needed. On 2g you still receiving emails and gtalk/tweets, and for an entire day. With 3g my battery lasts for 8h only.
ok, Ill give 2g a try.
Unfortunately Voda Italy has no EDGE at all...so if no 3g we are stuck using VERY VERY SLOW gprs.
i just use like 1:30 hrs of screen (on) AT 50%, i always use 2G network, background data conection like 2:00 Hrs, BT OFF, GPS OFF, WiFi OFF, All Syncronization OFF, some phone call (like 5 min per day), and i use set CPU to set the phone on demand between 122~600 MHz, with lucky i get 18 Hrs. of battery life...
Any advice?

I think 18 hours is Ok. Difference maybe is due to screen brightness; I use mine at 0%....
my battery last much longer with 2.1, i did a test, i put my phone in airplane mode overnight after charging it to 100%, unplugged the charger and went to sleep, checked it in the morning 8 hours later and it was STILL on 100%!
put it back to normal mode and the battery drains 1-2% per hour
Yeah, airplane mode is just the same with powering off, especially if you left it while you sleep dude...

I keep background data off and Data Traffic disabled and get about 1.5 days battery life. However, in Airplane mode, after 2.1 update, I have observed battery drains faster than 1.6.
^^ Use the Indian Firmware dude
its much better than flashed ones
Also charge phone when around 20% to get max battery life
Background data ON, Data Traffic enabled, live wallpaper (circuit board), Opera and mail one hour, BT 1 hour WIFI OFF, 1-2 hour call and sometime more.
24 to 32 hour Battery life.
I use Juice Defender and Set CPU.Battery charge when around 10 - 20 %.
^^Thats great
Calling for 30min decreased my battery life by 15-17% :O
My mini reboots every time i plug the in to charge, i saw there are some ppl with the same problem but i cant find a fix.
i did install the Nordic build.prop but repaired my phone when the update for my side came out. Can that be the problem?
I find the only thing now that really drains my Battery fast is playing games (Angry birds will drain my Battery in about 2-3 hours) otherwise.. if I don't play games my Battery lasts about 2 days. (up to a max of 3 days)
(I listen to about 3-4 hours of Music (over BT) each day, have Wifi on all the time I am at home, and use just a little bit of 3G when I am out (but I turn it off when its not needed)
Don't drain the battery to 0% this is really bad for Lithium battery's better to do top ups... and use USB to charge rather than the wall charger (lower charge rate will give you longer performance)
Run Launcher Pro Home screen replacement (I think its better than the stock one)
some software can really drain the battery fast, it tends to vary from person to person but I installed Nimbuzz and my battery went down like a sinking ship.
hope that helps..

When you say "Repaired your phone" you mean you put the build prop back to your old Kit code then Repaired with PC comp/SEUS? if you left the build.prop file as Nordic then you would probably still be on Nordic..
I ran nordic for a while and had no issues at all, then used Bin4ry's flash tool and a downloaded firmware to get my phone back to the correct Kit, I found it easier than playing with the build prop, its worth a try anyway..

Ok let me try explain .. i changed the build.prop to get the update but it did not work for me. So i downloaded Bin4ry's flashtool and software a flashed 2.1 on my phone.
I am on world generic (bought the phone in UK unbranded), when the update was availeble via SEUS i just plugged it in and did a repair, still with the same build.prop i edited.
I presumed it got flashed away with the repair i did
with the flash from Bin4ry an the repair from SEUS i got this reboot bug, so now i have no idea what to do next.
How do i know what kit i am on?

Hi folks,
My SGS2 is driving me craaaaazy ... i'm on KE2 with root and arabic patch from madmack ... i discharged the battery a couple of times on this firmware to recalibrate it and even tried a hard reset but nothing seems working at all.
everything seems normal except the battery and voice calls percentage which i only spoke for like 15 mins and percentage all the way up to 74%. With only one hour on the battery, it goes from 90% to 86% on idle. I need help guys.
PS: sorry for my bad english.
From what I understand you are saying that after an hour of using battery power, a 15min phone calls is showing up as 74% battery usage.
This seems completely normal to me...
I think quite a few people are failing to grasp the concept of percentages.
..or is it me?
all i meant was that my phone battery doesn't hold on for a hole day and this is a proof >>

we can't help you because that's normal. i get the same sort of performance.
it's not a defect, it's a feature.
I wont say thats normal at all, i own an galaxy s 2 myself and i cant get more then 4 hours of usage from full battery(no auto sync and data on only when i need it). If you had a ****ty phone before galaxy that doesn't mean 4 hours of usage is normal.
Here's what we should be expecting...
I hope mine gets these results. Only 2 charges for me so far.
Copy an dpaste in browser as I couldn't post link due to low post count.

thanks for replies ... i reflashed the KE2 ROM again at a full charge ... did a hard reset, changed wallpaper to black, wifi ,BT and data is off. i will test and report back the result.
The reason i start this post is to gather experiences and facts about Xperia P's battery life.
Sony was advertising that the compination of Novathor and Whitemagice results to almost 50% less need in power energy for the mobile and for that reason the battery of 1305 mAh is enought.
My opinion is that Sony has ultimately failed in this part.
My phone:
Rom : 6.0.B.3.162 (i dont have the signal drop problem)
network : WCDMA (3g)
Data: always on
Ayto sunch: Always Off
Live Wallpaper: No
Battery life: 10-13 hours
I usually use my cellphone for calls / texting / whatsapp/facebook. The thing that use my battery the most is always Display (always 60%-70% of battery) and the hour that the dispay is active, is 1h 30min to 2h 10mins. The average talking time per charge is 30m - 50 mins.
I usually charge my phone twice a day but if i use it for games or internet or photographs i have to charge it three times per day.
I m waiting for the ICS in order to see some battery life improvement . If i dont , then i ll sell it.
my battery drains 3% per 11 minutes on standby 3g / wifi on (with profile set at max 200mhz on screen off)
Can you please post your battery usage screenshot?
Sometimes even when the screen is off the phone stays awake due to some apps running in background. Generally battery monitor apps causes such problem. I have autosync on & network mode as WCDMA Preferred/GSM and use WiFi a lot though it is not always on.
For brightness as soon as I enter home I keep it at 0% & when I am to go out I change it to auto. 0% has good brightness. There is a widget available for this easy toggle. Also check your WiFI policy. Apps like VIber have tendency to keep WiFi always on even though you have kept the WiFI sleep policy.
I agree the battery is not that good but mine easily gets me through the day inspite of gaming, always Whatsapp on, Viber online & Facebook.
Note:- I have kept auto retrieval off for Facebook & default email client though notifications are on for Facebook.
Make ur phone root first than see wat ll happen after makd root battery life ll increase and u can control ur applications. If u need any help reply......

I have my phone for 3 days, an offer from the wife, no warranty though but the phone is like new. I'm considering selling it because I'm experiencing the exact same issues as you, charging the phone 2 or 3 times throughout the day is ridiculous. Had an iPhone 3GS and wanted to update my phone and migrate to droid. However I feel very frustrated about all the crap always running on the background, have 'easy task killer' and even killing apps then end up popping after awhile. I know I can solve this by rooting the phone but nevertheless I find myself always having to manually turn on/off wireless, 3G network, apps, etc... This is annoying and stupid, the whole purpose of a smartphone is to use its features, I find that although this phone has badass stuff (like HD camera) they are useless if one can't use them...
I'll try to fix this issue on the next couple of days if not I'll just sell this, go back to my old iPhone 3GS which with the same usage, wi-fi always on and 3G lasts a full 12hour day (at least) and save some more money to buy a 'decent' one like Samsung S III.
Thanks for your post, I thought my battery had issues and the more I read the more I understand SONY f-ed up!
Guys,
Sorry to bother you with this subject again...
Before I get the Lumia 800, I heard about the Battery Issue.
Anyway, I saw that with an update this problem was solved so, I've decided to buy this to simple use.
Well, I made all update that was disponible on Zune last sunday and this problem remains the same...
Sometimes I fell the mobile phone a little bit warm as well...
Is there a way to solve that?
I have no facebook installed, my email account is set up to check email in one hour. I cant figure out how solve it. Im very disappointed because my battery go down with 8 ou 9 hours in normal use...
How to check how much charge my battery gets when it is in full charge? Do you think that if I do a hard reset it can be solved?
Informations about my device:
O.S: 7.10.8773.98
FW: 1750.0805.8773.12270
RADIO: 1.7.50.08
Many thanks for any help!
Just to say that yesterday I wiped my phone and I had no good results.
Still bad. In the diagnostic tool show average of 200mA.
I cant believe that in some screenshots, other people has average of 70~100mA ..
I must doing something wrong, but I dont know what....
I love this phone, but the battery...
i will not tell you to turn off anything that can drain battery, because I guess you already did that. But one thing that people tend to leave on is the option to "send statistics". It is a huge battery drainer, it always connects to different servers and sends off statistics, like keyboard stats., sysem stats, location stats etc. so turn them off. Oh,an WP 7.8 is already out, install it in first place, use the Navifirm method to insure you delete everything from the phone
Thanks for your tip, but mine is as you said...
I think the only way will try WP7.8.

wings, I follow yours tips and installed WP7.8.
Unfortunatelly it doesnt work.
My phone is with gps, 3g and wifi turned on and my email account is set up to check email in one hour.
My phone keeps losing 8~10% per hour with screen off. In my oppinion it is so much! My last phone (an Xperia Play) it spend 1~2% during the same time with the same configuration...
I'm really disappointed with nokia.
Is it normal in diagnostic my phone has average 170mA? I saw some videos in the internet with some guys having 80mA as average in battery test...
I already tried to wait cellphone turns off without battery, and then charge during one entire night and without success... same problem again...
Really that I'm the only one that is having this issue recently???
tks again.
Same here wid me dude... I updated it to 7.8 n now my fully charged battery in the night goes fully drained in the morning. The phone is switched off when I wake up. And also the phone gets more hot also when the phone is in standby. on WP 7.5 I used to charge my phone the next day morning but with WP7.8 i'm charging it 2-3 times day.. Is any one facing the same issue???
First of all... having WiFi turned on at all times is a batterykiller, no matter what phone you use. Also using autocheck on email kills the battery very fast, push is even worse.
So... the first I do to keep the battery for at least 24 hours is to turn of automatic backlight and set it to medium. The lightsensor drains battery more than you thing. I have WiFi turned on only when I need it. And I check my mail manually...
I have also read somewhere that if you exit the PeopleHub in facebookmode it keeps syncing in the background, and if you leave it in phonebookmode it does not.
These small tips keeps my Lumia 800 with 7.8 for 18-24 hours with Heavy texting, medium 10-15 2 minute calls and checking my mail 3-4 times a day. I did the same while on 7.5

I tried that yesterday.
The curious thing in my case is that doesnt matter if 3g, wifi, push mail are activated or not. The drain of the battery remains the same.
For example, if i disable everything from my phone, it drains 8~9% of battery with screen off, and I doing nothing with it. And, if I enable everything, it keeps the drain in 8~9% of battery. Looks like my phone doesnt into in "deep sleep", maybe...
Very curious and very frustrating thing as well.
Anyway, thanks for try help me Manneman32!

I´m really sad to hear that nothing has helped you getting the phone to last longer. For me it sounds more like some kind of hardwarefault then... and I suppose the warranty has expired?

How do i turn off that option that you're talking about ? And what about the Navifim method ? I'm pretty new around here and i could use your help, please.
Hi,
Just ask for any other information, I'm bound to not remember to provide everything Have had this i9100 for about 30 months. No battery issues for the first two years but plenty in the past six months.
Phone would switch off suddenly (no low battery warnings) or go black / unresponsive and super-hot. Replaced the battery and after about 2 months the new battery (probably not original) was literally bent and mis-shapen. Bought a genuine (I hope) Samsung battery and installed CyanogenMod and still seeing hard power-offs when they wouldn't be expected.
See attached for this morning. Phone unplugged after charging (via USB) all night. Attempted to use Apollo and it wouldn't work so didn't even use the phone on the bus. Clearing data for Apollo after arriving at office and that is working again now. Made one long phone call before starting work and towards the end of that phone call just dropped. When arrived into the office plugged back into USB again.
Why did it power off at 70% and why wouldn't it turn on again even though after being plugged in and charged for 5 minutes it starts up at 40%?
What do you think? Is this a hardware issue and I have to give up on the phone
Does near camera get hot ? it shows media taking 21% which I assume it is not normal .
also we need to know about Rom version and recovery version .
Media scanner is the process that scans every folder and file so that if you copied or downloaded a .mp3 file it shows on your library . However for many reasons this can go wrong . Do you have folders with many files ? (talking in thousands) ... for example apps like maverick can download many thousand mapTiles that saves on internalSD or ex ... Then MediaScanner everytime needs to go trough all those many thousand files and that burns cpu/battery ...
if so try http://geeknizer.com/fix-android-media-server-scanner-sdcard-cpu-battery-drain/
other than that battery can go bad which is easily replaceable .
Attached screenshot from this morning. Notice how it drops to zero at a point. The phone switches off even though the battery isn't exhausted.
Near camera not getting hot. Not sure whether media 21% was normal or not, that morning only 30%+ of battery used when the hard switch-off event happened.
ROM is CyanogenMod 10.1.3-i9100 (Sept 23rd) and recovery is CWM v6.0.3.6
No folders with many files. Use the phone lightly really. A few MP3s, email, phone calls, general browsing, occasionally Skype.
Real question is why the drop from almost 70% battery to zero, as shown on last weeks and this mornings screenshots?
Battery is brand new, unlikely to be the problem.
Will install a battery drain app and study closer.

Then MediaScanner everytime needs to go trough all those many thousand files and that burns cpu/battery ...
other than that battery can go bad which is easily replaceable .

The most advanced app I can think of is battery monitor widget pro which can show you energy flow in mA per ( by default every 10min ) . A stock i9100 has a 1650 mA .However I don't think it can explain dropping in energy like that . No battery saving app will resolve this issue . There are some battery calibration apps around . I don't know what they exactly do ...
I have an i9100 . There has been some " Episodes " when I shut down , remove the battery and re-enter , turn on and see unexpected drops in the juice but the most extreme was dropping from 38 to 15 . Never when running android .
When phone gets superhot for not reason it sure is using alot amount of battery . I would suggest a factory reset or changing rom/recovery .
Plus I would like to know do you experience a crash ( after going dark you simply turn on the device again ) or drain battery ( which your device wont turn on until its in charge for a few seconds/minutes ) .
If everything fails I would be suspicious about mainboard .
----------------------------
On a second Look I suspect the gap you are seeing in the battery is a state when you experience a crash which loads the cpu that uses juice enough that android is running to record the gap but not functional enough to respond which result in something like the image above . I don't believe the battery can go from 70 to 0 then when you connect to a charging point you gain 50-ish % battery in a jiffie . When I think back I can say I had battery stats like that and my phone still is without issues ...
It's not getting super-hot any more. I think that was down to an old battery. What confused matters somewhat was it still got super-hot with the replacement (non-genuine) battery, which after a month or two was actually buckled out of shape. The phone was running Samsung ROM then.
Since then, have installed CyanogenMod and genuine Samsung battery and it's better behaved in general. Just these occasional crashes or whatever they are.
When it goes black, it won't turn on again, until after the phone is plugged in for a minute or two. Then it will turn on and report much higher than zero battery. It could still be some kind of looping crash where the screen is black but Android is still running. That wouldn't explain why it recovers when plugged back in though.
Since these issues are across 3 different batteries and 2 different ROMs, I'm tending to suspect that mainboard myself. And I don't trust any of the high-street phone repair places. They have two options for me: (1) sell me knock-off batteries, (2) replace mainboard.
The phone is still functional to an extent, it's just I can't rely on it. It's good for a half-day, after that I can out and about uncontactable and unable to take a snap photo or whatever on demand. Annoying!
