As of about a week ago the browser sync on my device has been failing. I am running ICS via the latest CM9 nightly on my Samsung Galaxy S II (i9100T).
Chrome Beta bookmarks sync fine, it's only the builtin browser that is failing to sync. I would use Chrome Beta if I could but it's so damn crash-happy that it's unusable (I assume it's a CM compatibility problem that isn't resolved yet).
Anyway... Here is the relevant log entries from a failed browser sync attempt:
I/BookmarksSync( 5112): Sync failed due to soft error: Reader: Protocol (soft) error: Truncating server changelist after 260 items, as the changelist contains more than one entry with a given remote id: Z:ADqtAZy+M2N65xx6fxN82TxDitLVtIkXCgmtSFp8W2tkH0CkJn0/Jcg8vDEWpzXibMIJcCZ0FdLOu2YpKahtQz5TqasLlCiDZDhnESZ7grZisodhrY++D+I=
D/SyncManager( 1840): failed sync operation [email protected] (com.google), com.android.browser, PERIODIC, earliestRunTime 698024, SyncResult: stats [ numIoExceptions: 1 numEntries: 260]
Basically it's just that over and over again. I've tried clearing the data in the browser app settings then resyncing, and I have also confirmed that on my PC my settings are set to encrypt passwords only (as a google search revealed some people had issues when encrypting everything).
So, I'm out of ideas. Does anyone know how to fix this? Help would be much appreciated as I'm a heavy user of my device and being unable to access my bookmarks is quite frustrating.
Thanks in advance.
Sorry I can't help you but I am getting the same error myself. Hopefully someone can help us out. My browser hasn't had a successful sync since the 12th, 6 days ago...
And like you, Chrome works just fine. I'm on a transformer prime fwiw.
Having the same issue on Galaxy Nexus running AOKP M4. For me it seemed to start around the same time that I changed one of my Chrome browsers to the beta channel, but I didn't notice it for a few days. Once I did notice it, I immediately removed the beta channel version and replaced it with a stable, then deleted all my chrome sync info from the Google dashboard, re-synced from a different copy of Chrome (which was always the stable version), then erased browser app data on my phone and re-tried the sync. Still fails.
My best guess is that the beta version of Chrome did something to the data that is unsupported by the ICS sync service. By the time I caught it, that "something" had been synced out to my other browsers, meaning my data is now permanently "corrupt" or something. Which is awesome and, short of starting from scratch, probably unfixable. However, the Android version of Chrome still seems to sync fine, so this is mostly just really, really annoying, and I can hold out hope for an official fix. In the meantime, I've disabled the browser sync because it seems to use a lot of battery power when it fails (that's actually how I noticed... looking into strangely high battery draw).
But has anyone else who has seen this error done anything similar?
Well, I managed to fix my problem. The issue was that somewhere in all of my Chrome syncs I managed to create a bunch of duplicate bookmarks. Specifically, I reorganized my bookmarks at some point into folders, and somehow they all reappeared in their original locations in addition to the new location. After re-removing all of the old links, deleting everything from the dashboard, re-syncing, and clearing my Android browser data, sync is working fine.
You can find the duplicate items by taking the id in the logcat message and putting it in the search box available in desktop Chrome under about:sync. Takes awhile to fix that way though, because the sync will only give you one id per failure. I was lucky that most of my dups were easy to find.

Before I updated my tab with touchwiz my bookmarks were synced with chrome. I updated the tab last night but my bookmark folder is still empty. This feature seems to be broken. Any suggestions?
I have the same issue.
Bookmarks are all f'ed up with Touchwiz.
I had the same issues as you guys but a simple Clean Cache/Data and Force Close on the Browser application from Settings fixed it. Do that and reenter your sync settings.
However, you may notice, that even though it is syncing properly, you now have to Click on Bookmarks, then Google Chrome, then Bookmarks again to access the folder. It's redundant and quite annoying. That feature is one of the most important features to me and may lead me to taking out TW altogether. =/
have same problem here
syncing takes hours or days ! and they dont sync entirely
too bad we're not able to just import from HTML or JSON

I am still having trouble. After clearing cache and data from browser and force closing. I reopen the browser and my Google sync info is still there and won't make me re-enter. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Same here! WTF! Noone else experiencing this?!
I had the exact same issue. Only way I could fix it was to restore to default settings, and I did not sync with chrome. I just made all of my book marks manually. Really sucks. I was also having trouble with my Browser widget all book marks went away. The are all back now after manually creating my bookmarks.

Hi I am still having trouble importing Chrome's bookmarks to my touchwiz browser. My honeycomb stock browser (b4 the upgrade) had no problem importing Chrome's bookmarks. I tried clearing cashe, cookies, and form data but still not able to import Chrome's bookmarks. Help!
+ 1 same for me.
I've been messing around with trying to get my bookmarks to sync and I finally got EVERYTHING! It took some time and I can't guarantee this will work for others.
I went through clear out the cache in browser and Google Bookmark syncs under settings>applications. I set up the sync again and after giving it some time (about an hour) bookmarks started showing up. I noticed half my folders missing so I created couple of the ones I knew and forced a sync in settings>account and sync . After a few minutes I noticed that my desktop browser had the new folders and they were empty, so I went into the bookmark manager on the desktop and start moving the bookmarks from folder A (desktop browser folder) to folder b (what I created on the tablet). After hitting sync a few times on the tablet everything was there.
I tried this twice just to see if I can get everything and it worked both times.
Hopefully this could help out others, just have some patience, took me couple hours to get everything (hundreds of bookmarks).

Hi nakedninja42, a question for you. Did your Chrome bookmark folders show up in your Tab's browser too? or just standalone bookmarks?

All my folders showed up. Something I noticed is that my Bookmark Bar folders ALWAYS transferred but not all the links inside. The ones that would not transfer were the ones I had recently modified.
The folders found in "Other Bookmarks" only half would appear, so in my frustration, I added a couple of missing folders on the tablet and dropped a link in one just to see what happens, hit sync and look at my desktop browser and noticed they were there. I had two folders on my Desktop browser (one original and one new), so I moved the links from the old folder to the new one. After that, things just started syncing.
I feel like it doesn't like to sync new links, but after dealing with all that hassle, I finally have them all.
I recommend to do an export of your browser links just to back it up. That saved my butt first time going through this cause I messed up all my links.
Bookmarks are also not syncing for me. The folders show on the tab but they are empty. The sync icon under accounts and sync, google acct, browser appears "stuck." Iv'e cleared browser data, uncheck then check sync and nothing is working. Im just going to let it be for a few days and see what happens i guess.
This worked for me...YMMV
After having no luck clearing data from both the browser and bookmark sync apps I decided to stop linking from my desktop version of Chrome. Then went into the Google dashboard and clicked on "stop sync and delete data from google" under the Chrome Sync section. Then re-established sync from the desktop browser. Finally, enabled in the 10.1 browser and bookmarks showed up. Sounds complicated but only took about 5 minutes.

Hmmm, I've been wondering what the connection between the browser and the tablet. Sounds like the dashboard is what I've been looking for. I felt that so thing between the two devices syncing was something hold back because it needs purge. Thanks for the post, might be the easiest solution, mine takes hours!

Sounded good in theory but unfortunately did not work for me. Same issue where the sync icon gets stuck and the folders sync but they are empty with no bookmarks. Thanks for the suggestion though.
No go for me as well. Hopefully there will be a patch to fix this.
Home button?
I had the same issue with bookmarks syncing but performed the same cache clear as nakedninja42 and the bookmarks are currently syncing. I first cleared everything in the browser setting options, forced closed, then went to the system settings and cleared all browser application contents from there as well.
Another issue...where the heck is the "Home" button for the browser? It's nice to hit that just to go back to my iGoogle page but it's either been removed or I'm blind.
Thanks!
I still have zero bookmark as well. This problem began after the 180MB firmware update. The I don't think I've received the 3MB (the latest?), but I'm running kernel 2.6.36.3, stock rom FWIW. Have deleted cache, unsynced, resynced to no avail.
OK, now that I have ICS running on both my T-Mobile G2 and my Acer Iconia tablet, I've notice two common problems and was wondering what, if any, solution exists...
1) Even though I have Photos not selected to be synced with my Google Accounts, when I go into Gallery, it still shows Picasa albums. Is this because I have Google+ syncing, and therefore have no control on those syncing?
2) Browser Sync has not worked since going to ICS. On Honeycomb, I always noticed my bookmarks were there from ROM to ROM, even after wiping. I am not sure if this is because it synced with online data, or if it was because Android was doing the auto-restore of stuff. But now with both devices running ICS, Browser is selected to sync on my Google Account, but it always fails. Chrome syncs fine between my two PCs (bookmarks at least anyways). Is there a solution for this?
Resolved following this: http://blog.abrah.am/2011/12/sync-is-currently-experiencing-problems.html
Long story short, it has to do with the encryption in Chrome. The guide above will first stop syncing with Google, delete synced data (from the cloud only), and then re-setting up syncing.
Tried to search if everyone was aware of this problem. Don't see any references, so posting in hopes it would help others.
If you just flashed one of the awesome ICS ROMs out there and getting constant FC with the error "Google Calendar Sync Has Stopped", you may be experiencing what I have. Note: This doesn't seem to affect all ICS ROMs as I didnt have this issue with Seraphim, but I'm on Objection right now and this is exactly what is going on with my Calendar.
I've been troubleshooting, installing/uninstalling system apks, finding workarounds and have had no luck figuring this one out. At first I thought it was just an exchange issue (another problem i wont get into). But after searching the web it looks to be a known issue with "Recurring Event" and the ICS sync engine. Because I had problems with Exchange Sync on my device, I ended up syncing my Exchange Calendar with Google using a third party app (gSyncit), so I have multiple recurring meetings in my Google Calendar.
Here is an excerpt from 'ISTAR' in a google groups thread:
"The problem appears when you have eventfull calendars, with repeating events. It looks like not all of them are able to be processed with Android sync daemon. Here is the threat discussing that issue: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=23175 Depending from your calendar there could be 1 or more events bothering that app. So you have to identify them and recreate it or if you got unlucky: refrain from using such pattern.
The easiest way to identify the wrecker is 1) to install log reading app, e.g. aLogcat from Market, 2) Go Setting->Accounts->Google->UnCheck/Check Calendar wait for the error "google calendar sync has stopped" 3) run to aLogcat, pause and scroll to the red lines, saying something like "error in recurring pattern =MO TU WE, etc." The error text can vary depending from the nature of your problem. 4) Try to identify which one is bad event and remove it from all calendars. 5) Resync and go to step 1 if error appears again. After 2-3 iteration you should vanish all your malicious events.
And I don't think google will fix it fast. The problem is being known since December 11, and still in progress.
Good luck!"
I confirmed this by following his steps and removed all my recurring events one-by-one until Calendar synced successfully without the FC.
Since I haven't been able to get Exchange sync or Google Calendar Sync to work with my work email. I've resorted to using Touchdown as the solution, until this is fixed or until I find a better workaround.
Hopefully someone finds this helpful, or can provide me with a solution.
No issues with calendar sync on that Rom here....recurring events and new events sync fine.
Which version of the Rom are you using

im on the newest objection 2. seems that this is only affecting a handful of people (only two others on the dev thread has mentioned it). it could possibly be a way that google calendar saves exchange items in its database and unable to process it on the device. dont know. frustrating. ive also tried taking the seraphim calendar apk and dropping it in with no luck. so im stumped.
this is the only issue from making my device perfect with objection which i think is the cleanest cooked up rom
It definitely could be an exchange issue.
I do not use exchange so have no way of testing
There's an app for it
I had this issue after updating my Galaxy Note to ICS 4.0.3. Calendar sync caused forced close and no data was synced. Bought an app called CalenGoo for less than EUR5 after confirming with the very helpful dev that it is not reliant on the defective ICS sync engine. Got everything up and running in seconds!
Deleting recurring events (weekly meetings with colleagues etc) is simply not something anyone who uses their Google calendar for anything serious is going to do. And again no guarantee that adding the meetings again would not just cause the same problem. Rather buy a phone that works.
Also tried deleting my corporate google account from the phone and re-adding it (my personal account synced just fine). Not intrigued to factory reset the phone and restore all apps and lose their settings etc. while there is no guarantee that it would do any good.
It is ridiculous that Google/Samsung would release this kind of defective crap, and makes you think what else might be wrong with ICS if QA is this bad.
Fixed my issue!
Hi,
Thanks for sharing this information!
I use gSyncIt to sync from Outlook to Google, then Google Calendar Sync to sync from Google to an Asus Transformer TF101. It worked fine until I upgraded from Honeycomb to ICS and my main calendar failed to sync from that point on, with the dreaded "Sorry" message.
I followed the tips in the first post and discovered I had only one problematic recurring calendar entry. It used this Outlook pattern:
Weekly repeat, Mondays to Fridays only, started July 16, finished August 10
When I deleted it the sync worked OK. When I recreated it using this:
Daily repeat, weekdays only, started July 16, finished August 10it still didn't work. Mind you gSyncIt could be representing both of these patterns the same way in Google Calendar.
In the end I recreated the repeating calendar entry as 4 separate week long repeating events and it synced fine to Google and through to ICS.
So if you are running into this bug my suggestion would be to check for any daily recurring events that run longer than a week but exclude some days of the week (especially weekends). I have lots of other daily, weekly and monthly recurring events but this is the only one that had that pattern (and the only one that killed the syncing process).
Thanks,
Matt
OP - thanks for the info, been experiencing this since I've upgraded my Galaxy Note to ICS.
One thing to add upon the info on this thread -- it seems to me that when accessing, via the Google Calendar website, the events that cause the crashes, they seem to show a message "This event has a recurrence rule that cannot be edited in Google Calendar" next to the "Repeat:" checkbox of the event.
This might be easier to detect for you than searching the logs. Of course, you still have to go over all of your reoccurring events to find the offending ones.

thanks for showing a way out.. fishing for those offending entries...
Simple mistake maybe
Hi folks I thought I had this same problem as well but found out there was a simple solution. If the duplicate events have a different colour tab on the lefthand side it means they are coming from different calendar feeds and to stop this happening I just clicked on the drop down menu next to 'Calendar' top left of screen and unchecked everything apart from my Gmail email address & UK Holidays.
After that everything went back to normal ... simple mistake or just me?

There was one offending monthly reminder about my Evernote subscription, deleted the series, sync working now. Happy!
I have only Google Calendar (3 agendas thouhg - personal, professional, birthdays) and after I upgraded my Defy to ICS (Nightly build of 2012.05.29, Kernel CM9) I cannot sync Calendar anymore. Try out different Gapps, always cleaning/wiping cache/dalvik, but nothing seems to solve the problem. Not sure what else I could try. Has anyone find a solution/workaround?
Hello,
I have a strange problem after my update to 4.1 in my browser. After the update the freeze problem in my browser was gone, unfortunatelly I saw, that it had some problems while loading pictures. Therefore I cleared the cache and all data - as told in this forum to solve the freeze problem (in combination with a cold boot).
After that, all bookmars were deleted (as expected), unfortunately now I have no possibility to get acces to my bookmarks on google. It shows only the section - Local -. Even Saving new bookmarks I can only choose to save them -Local-.
Next step was looking at the Settings for sync - strangely there was no option for syncing the bookmarks. I have the usual contact, calendar, Pisca, mail and so on... but no possibility to sync the bookmarks.
On my Galaxy everything works fine.
When I delete the cahce and all data again, the browser shows a short messsage that it connects to the bookmarks on google (with my account) for about 3-5 seconds- but it does not work.
Does anyone has any idea what to to?
Thank you very much in advance. If there is already a topic regarding this problem, I am sorry, I could not find it.

Doesn't work on my Galaxy Nexus too. I believe Google drop that feature, since the JB official browser is Chrome, and Chrome sync is working fine.
I also have a Prime and a Gnex. I'm running Bamf JB rom on Gnex and the stock browser has my bookmarks. But the prime does not, same with no option in the sync settings. Why is this gone?
CMarks from the market will restore this functionality :good:.

Hi guys,
I just noticed recently that my DNA is giving me this error under accounts and sync. It seems like this may be a wide spread issue for all types of Android phones, but I was wondering if anyone else was seeing this. The strange this is that it looks like everything is synced properly, and even when I drill down into the actual items that are syncing, there are no errors. I'm not sure if it is the rom that I am on (UKB), but I would really like to clear it up if possible. I have tried deleting the data in Apps for the various items listed, but this does not seem to help. I even booted into recovery and cleared the cache, to no avail.
Thanks guys,
Steve
Alright, I just did a full wipe, installed UKB 1.3 with Cubed stock kernel, and I am still getting that sync error. Is anyone else seeing this?
I have had this issue on CODIS, UKB and the battery plus ROM
It syncs everything fine, but it does show a red sync icon and say its experiencing problems. I've just learned to deal with it as everything still works fine.
--removing and re-adding my google account does nothing
--unchecking each option (calendar, contacts, gmail etc.) one by one to see if a particular causes the problem,...does nothing to help
Just wanted to letyou know you are not the only one with the issue.

Ah, thanks for the replies guys. At least I'm not the only one . At least it's not in your face screaming at you, so I can learn to ignore it.
I'm having the sync issues myself, and I'm even on full stock ROM. Just wanted to let you know. My account is on two-step authentication - are other people also using two-step? Common denominator?

I believe that is the problem. I had an error in Google Internet sync. I fixed it by going to Google dashboard on my computer and clicking "Websites authorized to access the account." Go down to Application Specific Passwords.
Install the Google Authenticator on the DNA. Then register it by generating a new application specific 12 digit password. The Authenticator app will then generate the six digit codes you'll need when asked to be able to sync your bookmarks in the browser or sign in the Google search homepage. Anyway it worked for me.
For me it was Facebook calendar that couldn't sync. I unchecked it and the error went away. It looks like it can be any part of any of your accounts that will trigger that message. If you go into each one, it will show which one is having the problem.
