Is there a volume control app that works?
The apps I've tried only seems to control certain volumes but not all especially when toggling profiles.
Not sure if this is what you are looking for but it is awesome for profiles...

Not working the way I need it to work. when I switch from Normal to Silent profile, both the media and alarm volumes are unchanged.
Phone weaver looks promising but is way more than what I was looking for. But nothing else has worked so I'll give it a shot. Thanks!
evwr try "quick settings" it has a volume setting included with full control of every aspect of volume with the phones parameters ....try it

How are you getting Audio Manager to switch the media and alarm volumes between profiles? You can set them but they don't hold.

I don't believe I've done anything special...I have my Alarm Volume set to max in every profile, as I never want an alarm to go unheard. But as for Media Volume, I just tried switching between all 4 of my profiles and double checking that they are being reflected in the system volume settings, and they are. I'm not having any issues with volumes not holding.

I think maybe you have the Pro version. The free version only lets you change between two profiles, Normal and Silent.

Oh, yes I do.
Using phone weaver trial right now. Liking it a lot because it automates profile changes. A few downsides but it is very functional for me.
Not sure if this helps or not, but I use "Settings Profile" to automatically change my volumes, ring/notification tones, wifi/bluetooth, brightness all automatically based on time and location.
Its probably my favorite app...
Try Profiles(egg 'n stone).

Basically, here is my thought...
As it stands, the volume rocker only adjusts for what you are currently in, ringer, notifications, media, etc. If you also want something else adjusted, you either have to switch to that, or adjust them via settings.
Is there a way to match all volumes so that when I hit the down side of the rocker, all sound profiles match and go downThis way, no matter what I'm in, I can turn them all down without having to go into settings...
Basically just an option that forces the volumes to match, che when I change one, they all adjust...

i know its really you own business what you do with your phone...but is this something you would REALLY want?? its seems like youd be causing much inconvenience for yourself in the future......you hsould try a program like tasker, locale, setting profiles, timeriffic, etc.......these apps allow you to create automatic profiles, set it and forget it

It's an amazing, customizable app (vertical too) that can make about any widget you want. I use it to control ALL volume levels quickly.

@TopShelf: Yes, I'd really like that. For me it would be easier. When I need to turn one volume down, I normally need to turn them all down... and it's not always location specific. So for me, it's a lot easier to hit the bar up or down to make sure it's where I need it, than to juggle a bunch of different profiles and wonder if something is where it should be before using it...

Yeah, Paul O'Brien turned me on to that widget via twitter, it is pretty dang amazing, and nobody seems to talk about it.
I've had two HTC devices before the DNA, so I am a little frustrated that HTC decided to link the ringtone and notification sound control. I want to turn off notification sounds. Does anyone know if that's possible? I tried downloading some volume control apps, and it appears that HTC has disabled, or overridden, the ability to control the ringtone and notification volumes separate.
The decision to tie the ringtone and notification volumes together is bugging me after just one day with the device.

If you want to disable notification sounds altogether, have you thought about simply using a silent MP3 or OGG file as the notification sound?

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, the app didn't work. I've tried five other apps, and nothing seems to separate the ringtone, notification, and system volumes. This is very frustrating. I am building a Pro/Con list on the DNA during the 14-day return period. This notification sound problem will be added to the "Con" side of the list.

I hadn't. Thanks for the suggestion. I'm all for finding fixes to problems, but it still bugs me that separating the volume, or offering "silence" as an option is not default.

When I'm in the Audio Control app, the ringtone and notification sounds are still connected. I don't see a way to break them into separate control bars/sliders.
I believe this was changed in either ICS. At the system level, there is now only one volume setting for both ringer and notifications. You used to have the option to "link" or "unlink" them, but now they're just rolled into one setting.
I found this app called ICS Enhanced Ringer Ctrl which seems to be working, but it's a little hokey. I haven't used it a whole lot yet but it seems to be working so far. It's a paid app, but it has a 48 hour trial. Search for it on the Play Store and you should find it.

I've just spent a few moments testing it (I hadn't fully set it up yet on my DNA) and while the volume levels seem separate, when I turn the notification volume to zero, it turns everything to zero. But when I turn Ringer volume to zero, and Notifications to something else, it works perfectly.
I've emailed the developer to see where I might have something not set up right.
UPDATE: Here is what he said:
In Android 4.0 Google decided that the OS was too complicated and tried to slim things down. One of the bad side effects of this move was merging the ringer and notification volumes. This means that all notifications and phone calls use the same volume levels. Lots of users (myself included) did not like the change and so I attempted to come up with a way to mimic the ringer volume. So in Audio Control the "Notification Volume" is the "Ringer/Notification Volume" it controls both the ringer and notification volumes. All I'm doing is changing the "Ringer/Notification Volume" when phone calls occur to the "Custom Ringer Volume."
This was asked over at AC forums, I think by the same person, from what I'd gathered there were some apps that tied it together, the guy modified 5 apps and I believe were able to have them independant, one was google mail... check the thread there for more info

This app allows the user to handily change Headphone Amplifier Levels. Root access is required for file permission changes to the following files:
-"/sys/class/misc/wolfson_control/headphone_left"
-"/sys/class/misc/wolfson_control/headphone_right"
Two launchers can be found in the app drawer. One launches the Control app, another launches an overlay dialog for quick amplification level changes.
App Guide:
-Balance L/R toggle: Toggles amplification level balance between the left and right channels. When checked, disables the right channel seekbar and copies the left channel amplification level value to the right channel.
-Main seekbars: Current amplification level values. The top one is left channel's, bottom one is right channel's. The minimum and maximum values are defined by "Min level" and "Max level".
Control App Guide:
-Min level seekbar: Minimum amplification level that is settable by the main seekbars. Cannot be higher than safety level or max level.
-Max level seekbar: Maximum amplification level that is settable by the main seekbars. Cannot be lower than safety level or min level.
-Toggle service (notification bar shortcut): Enables notification shortcut. Must be checked to enable safety level. Notification only appears when headset is currently plugged in.
-Toggle volume button hack: Automatically sets checked volume type to almost max. The volume buttons can then be used to directly adjust amp levels, depending on context. The seekbar determines amp level jump.
-Hack music volume: Enables volume button hack for music, media, video, and games volume
-Hack voice call volume: Enables volume button hack for voice call volume
-Hack ring volume: Enables volume button hack for call ringtone volume
-Safety level: When headset is plugged in the first time, the current amplification level is compared with the safety level. If current level is higher than the safety level, then the current level is lowered to the safety level.

Check the Perseus kernel thread in original dev.
Perseus only works with Samsung-based ROMs, Andreilux just implemented a new audio engine & this app allows for on the fly headphone amp volume changes, either unified or broken down to left/right channels. Stweaks has the same functionality under the audio tab, but also does every other kernel tweak, & it's slow & janky.

Nevermind, I tested it myself and it doesn't work on NEAK. They have different implementations of Boeffla Sound.
Volume button hack added
I've tried using this, but the problem is that I can't find a way to keep both volume notifications from popping up.
On top of that, each time the volume is changed, the system interprets it as if it were a headphone disconnect, and whatever you are playing stops playing. So either you have to disable that setting in all your apps and take the risk of blaring something if your headphones get unplugged, or just never adjust the volume.
Anyone know how to get around these problems? The first one is just an annoyance, but the second one makes it unusable for someone like me (who constantly adjusts the volume).
I use many headphones, so being able to control hiss would be nice. Perhaps it would be better to use profiles that are user selectable, and then use the digital control to make minor modifications?

Unfortunately there's no easy way that I know of to get around the first problem with the volume button hack. If this functionality were to be embedded in a ROM then its possible but as an app it can only rely on volume change intents.
I can't reproduce the second problem though.
By the way, in the meantime, you can still use the app without the volume button hack.
Interesting. When ASOP is stable on our phone, I'm going to come back to this. If needed, I can make my own mods to make things work the way I want. Will share if that's the case. Hate manufacturer "features". Like stupid WIndows 8 and all the preinstalled Metro apps.

Regarding the quoted discussion, any chance that the first problem can be solved via an xposed framework module?
The second one can be reproduced if you use youtube and try to adjust the volume. I think it's because adjusting the volume is causing the headphone amp to jump to the foreground and sends youtube to the background so it automatically pauses.

First of all, I wanna say thank you for this nice app
But there's one thing which I don't like.. The sliders for the Balance are too big and the circle is not at the end of the line :/ I managed to get rid of the to big circles with resizing them from 64x64 to 32x32. Now everything's fine(except that they're not at the end of the line, but that is hard to notice anyway. )

Great app, have been using it with Perseus for a long time now and it makes my Note2 the primary music player for me now.
Wonder if you'd consider making the app work with the NEAK kernel for Note 2 as well? I'd do it myself but i haven't a clue how to do it. I want to move away from TW roms and NEAK is the only kernel with Boeffla sound on AOSP as far as I know.

I'm a bit more than a week in with the Pixel 6, coming from a phone that has an actual hardware ring/vibrate/silent switch. I miss that switch dearly.
Is there a fast way to silence the Pixel 6? I'm aware you can press the volume key, then choose the "silent" icon, but that takes some time/fiddling, and it DOESN'T SILENCE THE PHONE. Only silences notifications/rings. My old phone when silenced also silenced media, everything except alarms.
Invariably I'm doing something at the table or whatever and an ad comes on at volume. Sure, I can hold the volume down key, but it takes a bit for that to gradually silence the media.
What I want is to be able to double tap the volume control or something similarly fast and have it instantly silence everything (except alarms), similar to how the physical sound off switch worked on my OP6T.
Is there a solution for this? I'm fully stock, not rooted, not planning to root.

Bro I feel you! I'm noticing now valuable that switch was to me as well. I'm literally thinking about sending this phone back and buying another OnePlus device or buying a refurbished item.

There are times I feel I should have grabbed an 8T for $400, but i wanted for once to experience a pure google phone. I knew it was going to be thick and heavy when I bought it but I didn't realize how much I would miss that switch.
That said, I'm enjoying the Pixel otherwise, and am pretty settled in with it. I've made the transition and don't plan to send mine back. This is a pretty nice phone!

Thanks for this but it didn't silence the phone. I was playing a game, an ad came up with loud sound. I tried flipping the phone but nothing happened. Am I missing something?

Settings > System > Rules. Enable and use the "silence phone" rule. It's location-dependant so there is no toggle like what you are used to.
EDIT: For finer control than what Google provides, Tasker or a similar app should work for you.

Hmm. I'm not sure I understand how this is supposed to work. I don't want the rule to start when I reach a location or connect to a network, I just want to be able to quickly tell the phone to silence all sounds (other than alarms of course) at specific times like if I see an ad loading up. And I would want to be able to undo the silencing quickly too.
I went into the rules and tried enabling, but it's all about doing things when I reach a location/wifi spot.
I did double check my gesture settings, to make sure the Flip to Shhh was on... it is... I Think the shushing just applies to notifications and ringing, not media (ad sounds are controlled via media sound level).
Use button Mapper by flar2 and map long press volume as you wish. That's what I've done coming from op6t

I'm breathing a huge sigh of relief. I set mine so a single tap of the volume down mutes the media volume. Problem solved! And I like the option to disregard button mapper when the volume control is being used manually.
OK now! My biggest beef with this phone now fades into the sunset.
My initial reason to install was torch which I've mapped to volume down. Great app and @flar2 is a member on here so give him a thumbs up

Here it is. I went into Volume Down and set it up as shown here:
I use wavelet for YouTube music. After I clear and wipe the musicfx system app which seems to automatically tune itself to some preset settings I don't like and then disable, I install wavelet. I then turn on it's notifications and set the buffering to prefer latency over clipping. Set my settings and off I go. But periodically I will notice my volume and sound will become dulled again and the sound will go back to being lower. I'll push the power button in wavelet and will discern no difference it anything. I'll change settings in the middle of a song and nothing. Can anyone please help me and tell me a way I can keep wavelet working?

How's that compared to wavelet? I like the results of wavelet. Just a pain in the ass to keep it functional.

Is MusicFX a system app? I don't have this on my Pixel.
According to the website, most pre-installed music apps lack support for audio processing.
Or they require additional configuration.

Yup it's a system app. I got the regular pixel 6. As far as I know it should be there. You can access it thru YouTube music. Go to settings, playback, equalizer. It's off unless you turn it on and when you do the already dubious volume gets even lower. Some bull**** if you ask me.
