[Q] Constant popups with location - how to get rid of? - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

Hi,
I have a strange problem with my Xperia S: I have constantly popup windows opening, showing the location of (I guess) the nearest cell phone tower. I already tried to turn off all location settings, but the popup still appears, sometimes every 2 minutes.
I also did a firmware upgrade already, no success either. Does anyone have an idea where those popups are coming from???

i do have the same problem..........can someone help us out?
---------- Post added at 12:44 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:09 AM ----------
its really annoying, someone put ur thoughts and help us................

Goo to know that I am not the only one
Can you maybe post a list of apps that you have installed? Maybe an app is responsible for those annoying pop up messages?

Did you configure Mcafee in your phone ? Because mine shows them whem i try to locate the phone using mcafee site .

Nope, I de-installed the McAffee app as one of the first things actually...

I uninstalled McAfee and wisepilot also, went through each setting and menu.....could not find a solution

I finally found a solution

Cheers, will try tonight and report!
Is there maybe any Android app which can change those settings on the SIM / change the settings with the operator network?

No it's not working

Has anyone found a solution for this, its driving me insane, during my trip home in the car from work, I have to have the phone on silent to combat the constant updates!!

Did you check the solution with swapping SIM to older phone?

NO CHANGE
I tried putting my sim in an old S40 Nokia and disabled cell info display as well as deleted all info channels (including CH50), but still getting these Cell Broadcast messages. Looks like we all have to wait until ICS for things to improve.

I tried the sim swapping thing but it didn't work I'm still getting the pop ups is quite annoying

The new Cell Broadcast option in the latest 6.0.A.3.73 firmware should resolve the problem I think.

I hope I don't sound like a prick, but uninstall the programs in that list and I am sure you won't have it. Why would you want to delete your list of installed apps? Also, try AppBrain and FastWebInstall (?, same company) if you haven't. You can make as many lists as you please and delete them with just as much grace. It's pretty much another way of using Play without completely doing so. It's also great because Google's backup and restore isn't perfect.
Perhaps I misunderstood the problem.

This is not only the list of currently installed apps this is the whole device history of installed apps many of them i deleted months ago.

This list depends on with which gmail ID you are logged in. If you login with a different gmail ID, the list will change according to which app you have downloaded using that ID.
So if you wanna hide/delete the list, you need to login with another ID!

Even if you uninstall the programs, the apps will still be in that list since it's a list of your entire account history of installed apps (instead of saying "installed", it will give you the option to install them).

Sentiment seems to be that we can't as exemplified by the following quote:

yes there is a touch screen issue, i am on xperia sola (nevertheless because of the same chipset used in p,go,u and sola, many of the bugs are common)..the touch screen issue is not very evident when u browse through the phone casually but it becomes very evident when playing games like temple run or subway surfer, the touchscreen becomes non responsive or there is an erratic behaviour.

The short line show that the screen didn't give response to me at that time.
Mine's fine.
My friends xperia Sola has this issue.
hopefully there is a fix soon. i am not able to play temple run or subway surfer because of this ..lol.
initially i was wondering if this is a problem with my device alone.

i tested the touch using fruit ninja as well. i couldnt notice anything spectacular that has affected the touch drastically.
When I tried to ask for solution in Sony Forum, they simply told me that I should go to the service center...
i would advice u to wait until there is a new update. because there seem to be multiple users facing this issue. sending the phone to the service centre is a big waste of time.

Wrong PIN - Please enter the Privacy Protection password to unlock

My new P9000 seemed to be working fine until I put in the SIM card, at which point I got this "Wrong PIN - Please enter the Privacy Protection password to unlock".
This is an indication that it's network locked, right?
What do I need to do to be able to use this phone? I'm a complete noob when it comes to flashing phones, ROMs, etc. Are there any fairly basic step by step instructions I can follow?
It seems you set up anti theft without your sim in it. Just enter your anti theft password or flash rom, deleting all data

Hey, thanks for the reply. I flashed the ROM, that didn't work.
The device arrived set up this way. Although the box was also open, so who knows what else they'd done.
You can also try 000000 as code.

Thank you
Hello, THANK YOU.
I created this account just to thank you for the #mima#.
I could have wasted a lot of time reinstalling the Android, but instead I wrote #mima# from my brothers device and received the anti-theft PIN on his device.
:good::good::good:
Thanks a lot!!!!
For no reason my wife's phone suddenly lock and asked for the Privacy Protection pin. Thank you so much for posting the solution. You saved a tone of time and made my wife happy again. The phone is unlocked.

Can this phone be forcibly network-unlocked?

Elephone P9000. The bane of my... week. Sitting there, smiling at me with its beautiful screen, totally unusable.

The PIN from my SIM card, doesn't work. Also 1234, 0000, 8888, 123456, 000000, none work.
I removed SIM card and reboot. Still get the lock screen to enter PIN and error message "Wrong PIN - Please enter the Privacy Protection password to unlock".
Edit: wrong forum - sorry! Mods can you move it to the P9000 Q&A forum?
I managed to eventually get to the stage where I could flash it with a new ROM, so I've just done that (very pleased)...
... and still see the network lock when I start it up.
So where to next in the unlock saga?
I've tried the local phone repair shop, had no clue
I've tried flashing a different ROM, has no effect on network lock.
Vodafone, my carrier, seems to only unlock phones they've sold.
The dodgy online unlock sites don't even list Elephone as a manufacturer
Elephone themselves don't like to answer support questions.
The seller is unresponsive.
I've no idea what network it's locked to.
I don't know what to try next. Can this phone be forcibly network-unlocked somehow?
It looks like you set up anti gheft with another sim or without it. Just enter your anti theft password or flash rom and delete all data

Contact Tracing

Google has slipped in an update with contact tracing into my phone. There is no way to disable or remove this malware. Anyone have a fix?
What evidence do you see on your phone to confirm this?

Ah, interesting. Mine phone shows the same.
From what I understand, Bluetooth and location will have to be on and we would have to have a contact tracing application installed and also we would have to opt in to be part of tracing. It's possible they are currently collecting anonymized data now even if we don't have a tracing app installed.

One only has to search 'spring break cell phone tracking' to see what they have been doing. This is Version 2.0 in that they are not only trracking you but also maintaining a database of who you physicaly meet with. If it was about me being worried about a fake demic I could of easily nstalled an app. This method show that they are more interested in what they can do as in taking away more privacy. I can turn of notifications that is it. Never trust those in power not to feature creep more and more, history is proof. Yes they can track rioters with it but a sword cuts both ways.
How did you get to this? I recently upgraded to Android 10. I can't find this in settings. I've disabled updates now to prevent getting this "virus"
Edit: I found it (settings->google). Fuuuuck. Why can't I just OWN the ****ing phone I PAID for?
I think it's part of Google Play services which I don't think is blockable by disabling updates.

To activate the covid 19 tracing feature you have to install an app that will ask you for your permission to trace. Without the additional app, it does nothing and is just framework.
The "Care 19" app is an example of one that will pair with the service to begin contact tracing after you give it permission. Some states, like Rhode island have their own dedicated tracing apps that pair with this as well. But again, you have to download and opt into the services.
