I've seen a post about camera lag... About how it takes a few seconds to take pictures.... Well, their isn't no lag on the note...
I was at the carnival or fair yesterday afternoon.... So I tried out the camera on my note... I had remembered reading about the camera lag so I expected pics to be alright....
Well my girl was on this ride and I snapped a few pictures of her while the ride was moving... To my surprise the pictures came out awesome.... The moment I pressed on the icon to snap the picture it took it... At first it seems like it snaps it a couple of seconds later and missing the action all together... But reviewing the picture shows the scene as it was taken even you hit the switch..
This is the picture I took.... It was going super fast and took a great picture.....

Yeah, that is what I noticed. The lag seems to be writing the picture to disk. Or having it show up in the gallery, or something else. But the picture takes the moment you hit the button, you don't have to sit there holding it up and waiting the whole time.
Edit: Nice shot by the way! Really is a great camera in this phone.
The camera speed is hardcore fast in my experience too; I agree that people are horribly mistaking picture write time for camera lag. Great photo too- the little kid holding on for dear life is priceless! Reminds me of a past experience with this kind of ride.

If it takes me 1 minute to take 4 pictures..... This is camera lag. Whether its the write speed (which it is) or not, there is still camera lag. My iphone 4s would take/save pictures within the second i pressed the capture button. This phone doesn't and it lags.
Kony 2012 is Propaganda.
www.Facebook.com/freeyourmindcampaign
It takes you more than a minute to take 4 pics? LOL are you kidding? I bet you have shakey hands. The camera doesnt lag THAT bad. Exaggeration. I just tried it and it took me less than 12 seconds to take 4 pics. Try freeing up your RAM and quit comparing the NOTE To an "iPhone". Theyre in different leagues.
-Once you go NOTE, you'd say 4 inches a Joke
Including write delay, every Note I've had takes about 4-5 seconds before I can take another shot. But ignoring the write delay, there's still about 1 second of lag before the image is captured after I've pressed the button. I have a ferret that likes to move a lot. Doesn't work too well with her.
Been meaning to make a post on this...
Try LG camera from the market...no more lag

Its very noticeable indoors, I get clear pics half the time. It seems like the actual shutter event varies. Sometimes its as soon as I release, others 2 seconds after.
I think a 5.3" iphone would be amazing.

It's about a two second lag to write and save the image.... but as you can see, it doesn't matter cause it takes great pics...

OK I really hope this is a bug! I thought at first the lag was due to indoor low light but even if you prefocus with a half shutter press, the camera still takes up to two seconds to actually take the shot and by then, the subject is often gone. Exposure time is way too long with flash too:its as if you are shooting without flash. The camera needs a lot of work!
Mike
Wow, I'm surprised this isn't running the gauntlet here. The camera lag is so bad that the camera is just about unusable. Even with flash off and a half press (prefocus), the camera is so slow that it can only be used to capture still life or pre-arranged shots: at least a full second delay. Trying to get a candid shot: forget it!
And the exposure time is so long on flash shots that you might as well not even have flash: still blurry.
To me, these are really bugs so I hope they are fixed.
Mike
Using the on screen button is usually quicker than the actual shutter button. Not sure why. I love having the physical button but I find that I am unable to take action shots with it at all due to the lag.
Try using the on screen button and see what kind of results you get.
May have somethin to do with the auto enhance setting, I haven't tested it but just thought I should.mention it
Bussin Caps from my 3D shooter
I tried it by unchecking all the boxes like auto enhance, 16:9, and tried the button on the screen (after tap focusing) and I still get the same delay. The odd thing is that sometimes it only takes maybe a half second. Other times it takes up to TWO full seconds. And it does freeze the screen initially right when you press the shutter, it just doesn't take the photo at that time. After the delay, it freezes again (at a different point in time) and that is when the actual shot is taken. Trying to take a picture of my friend's newborn over the weekend, I couldn't get one good shot. Babies move a lot and I timed it when she had her head tilted just right and pressed the shutter but by the time the camera took the picture, she had her hand in her mouth or had turned her head to the side, etc.
Mike
One of the things that I noticed is that even after you do a pre-focus, once you press the camera button, it re-focuses *again*. This may be the reason for the lag.
I've read its Androids fault in the way the software performs. Who knows, for those moments use video and later take the frame you want...maybe.
This is the single biggest, and probably only, reason I'm seriously contemplating returning my EVO. I cant stand the camera interface. As somewhat of a photography buff, I find this camera software to be unacceptable.
I hold out hope for root and a potential revamp of the camera software.
The screen button definitely works faster than the physical button, which sucks cause I was really looking forward to the physical button.
...........
mine is almost the exact opposite. almost immediately after touching the external button the picture takes. it takes slightly longer for the picture to take if i use the on screen button

Mine lags too, screen and hardware button..On another note.....
Seen this on another thread...Anyone notice we're missing camera options that were and still are in the description of the camera features for our phones? Quick shots, action cam etc.... Here's a link to the thread wich has a link to HTC's website where the features are detailed.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1147334
Oddly I find the camera physical button to be responsive, I guess maybe half a second lag? Much, much better than the Evo4G. And mine definitely doesn't refocus.
As I reread the posts on this thread, I'm starting to wonder if you guys realize the "shutter" button on the Evo3D has two degrees of pressure...like like a real SLR. Press to the first detent to get a focus lock, hold for as long as you like or recompose if need be, then press all the way down to take the photo. There isn't much lag for the latter step.
Yeah, I don't get much lag either, I'm pushing down the whole way and can snap off consecutive shots pretty quickly.
I took the OTA if that matters, don't remember it being laggy before either.

I heard that the newest camera app was still having issues close to release, so they pulled it til it could be fixed. However, I emailed HTC, and they said they weren't aware that the camera app was supposed to have those features.
Maybe you should drop HTC an email pointing them to what you found and see what they say. Worth a shot.

i'm tired of my phone's camera app locking up after using the hard camera button..it doesnt seem to do it if i use the on-screen button. i use the camera alot and its really frustrating. the lag is terrible as well. taking pics of a 10month old and 3 yr old is damn near impossible.
i miss my EVO. good thing wife still has hers.

I Agree......i take pictures of my 1 and a half year old every day and i literally cant take her picture unless i ask her to stay still (wich is an impossible task in its self lol)....or else i get blurr
Miss my epic........for the camera ONLY lol
I'm wondering if I'm alone on this... Coming from the evo 4g, I am extremely underwhelemed by the quality of the camera on this phone.
It has a hard time not blurring things when you take it's picture, whereas my evo could literally snap a picture of a roller coaster at full speed with ease.
It doesn't expose properly and leaves flares everywhere and washed out areas of the picture, if the whole picture isn't destroyed.
You can forget about low light situations, if it's even at dusk the camera won't be able to see anything without a flash.
And then the camera button... Oh my. When I try to use it (and maybe I just have clumsy hands), I can't hold the phone still and then the half way down to focus feature always screws me up. If I press it all the way down, it doesnt bother focusing, it just takes a picture in whatever focus it has. So, I have to carefully press it halfway down, not move, and then take it after. FRUSTRATION.
Sorry for the vent, but the camera was one of my favorite features on the 4g and this phone has taken it from me... 3d or not.
I love the camera button. Just hold the camera button down to the first click for 2 seconds, let it focus, the fully press it down and keep your hand still. You'll get a good picture if you do this. But if you move your hand while its taking the picture, then of course youll get a blurry picture. That's user error, not camera error.

I have the same issue with camera button. I now ONLY use the screen button and it works much better.
I'm not sure it's a shake issue or not. But when using the camera button the often come out blurry and when using the screen button they are fine.
Adjusting settings does help but the camera still sucks balls. I'll take iPhone 4 cam vs this one any day.

I agree totally! The camera on this phone sucks just like it did on the OG Evo. Who the hell has time to play with all of those settings, taking numerous pictures of the same thing trying to get it right. He is correct we are not professional photographers and if we were we wouldn't be using our phone to do it with. We just want a simple point & shoot camera that gives us good pictures. Even as much as it pains me to say, but like the camera on the iPhone 4. I have taken a bunch of pics & videos with it, inside & out, low light and sunlight and I've always gotten a a great pic/video with auto settings unlike the camera on the OG Evo and Evo 3D. Hell any HTC phone for that matter. They make great phones but they always skimp when it comes to the camera.

I can post the original sized pictures and for comparison, they look good both ways.
I have to say it's very disingenuous to say that the camera sucks. I have two friends that are professional photographers and they both have been very impressed with the pictures I posted in the article. I looked to them both for advice on this article. Are they perfect? Of curse not. But they are still very good. I dont mean this to be disrespectful, but the problem also seems to be user, not just software. I also want to add that once you change the settings the settings typically stay that way so you don't always have to adjust them. At the end of the day there is a difference between having a bad sensor and having bad software. The EVO 3D is limited to bad software but can be helped by adjusting the settings.
One last thing. I originally posted the pictures in their true size. But thanks to Windows Live not playing nice with WordPress the entire article had to be redone and somehow the size was reduced. I can certainly post the original size later when I get home. I really hope the article helps people out with their picture quality. To those that don't agree, it's fine. Can't make everyone happy lol.

ONE MORE THING!! Dont use the camera button!! I completely forgot to mention that. But as much as I loved the idea of having a deticated button for the life of me they always come out blurry! I have no idea why. So I just use the onscreen button.
I cant get any good outside shots with the 3vo.... Look at this the first is shot with a sensation the other 3 are taken with my 3vo different settings each time nowhere near as clear focus is off, they are grainy just look plain terrible i literally just walked in from taking these

The problem i am having is the when taking pictures, is the picture always looks dimmed after taking the shot. I could take a picture of the beach on a sunny day and it would look in the picture as if was a coudly day.All my outside shots are dimmed. Wow. That's really bad. I'd say part of the problem is the white balance. I think the EVO's white balance problem is really affecting certain images than others. I'll be going down the shore this weekend. I'll take some beach shots. No reason it should look that bad 0_o
I do wonder if there are some cameras that do have bad sensors... I've heard a few people on Android Central get an exchang and the new phone had better quality with no green tint..

My amaze seems to like screwing with me when taking pictures.
The problem is simple.
Start camera application, tap or hold camera button to focus. As soon as it gets perfect focus it jumps back out. It will almost never stay focus regardless of setting.
have you ever tried tapping the screen, say for instance if you're taking a picture of someone, tap their face, and it should focus on where you tapped.
have you tried cleaning the lens? sometimes when the lens is dirty it messes with the focus when I try and take pictures.
I have the same issue.
At first I assumed that my settings weren't correct, tried a number of 'fixes' that seemed logical and here I am.
It happens more often than not, but 99% of my pics are my kids, you got ONE shot at capturing a great moment.
blurred...
I have taken random shots of random objects and nothing will keep the focus...focused.
One second brilliant clarity of HD candy as it zeroes in, and °dink° blurrrrrred again.
sucks, i ditched my hd2 windroid for this camera so any info, possibly a bug fix kind of thing is what I'm looking for.
My hd2 took pinkish pics, so I'm no stranger to 'gimped' code.

a simple question gets a simple answer.
try knocking your res down to 5mp, that helped my old phone, plus it made it quicker, and still had good print/display quality.
For you lucky people that already have their precious ONEs, can you give us some feed back on how the camera is performing and how pictures look when sending it thru mms on the other end? Just very curious on knowing how pics look with this 4megapix technology on other devices. Thanks..
I went to my local store in Arlington Texas and they had 3 on display (wouldn't let me walk out with one) and I took a couple snapshots and was impressed with the clarity. Right now I use an iPhone 5. The device is just beautiful but I did notice the gap issue and it didn't get hot but definitely was warm after 15 min of use. A case should nullify that but I'm not sure how it will effect the processor after 20 months.

I think its just because its plugged into a power supply. Same thing happens to my s3 when I use it while I'm charging it.
I'm not an addict I just flash a lot.
As the reviews say, the low light is beyond belief. It's such a difference in color and image quality. My other phone is a note 2 so that's been my main side by side comparison. The difference is to the point of some pictures from the note 2 look blacked out while the One looks like it was taken in the light. I did the comparisons with flash off.
As far as outdoor pictures there isn't a huge difference between the two. The main difference here is the editing options built into the One. They went all out in this department. You can do so much to improve skintone, face angles, ect.
Zoe is a pretty cool feature as well. I havent mastered it but the way the galleries lay out it makes it an entirely new media experience.
I've gone thru every major device that's been launched over the last two years and can honestly say what HTC has here is a game changer. Every feature revolving around media(camera, sound, ect) is so useable and functional. Nothing I've found so far that's a new feature is a novelty. Everything is something that I find myself using.

Same thing in my LGOG. Plus the screen is constantly on when being displayed.

well that makes me feel better. I ordered the Case-Mate "tough case" so the warmth shouldnt bother me. Pre ordered and the At&T rep said that I should be receiving it next Friday.
OK so I went to play with the demo at the store today. I was really impressed with the phone. It is definitely thinner than what it looks on pics. Its very fast i couldn't get it to lag on me one bit. The blink feed is definitely something I will be using cause I use flipboard now anyways and its the same idea but looks better and its very well implemented in the phone. And for those that really won't care for it you can just set any other screen as the home screen so it will basically just stay as the last screen on the left. Sound is good but of course you would appreciate it more in a more quite environment. I did notice that the highs come out more on the top speaker than the bottom speaker, guess its for a better balance for listening. I took some pics with the ONE and texted it to myself and it looked just as good as any other pic sent by MMS. I also took a pic with my S3 to compare with the ONE(see on next post). Camera is fast and has awesome editing effects to mess with, you won't need to download too many apps for photo editing with this ONE. Ive read some people complaint about the keyboard but I had no issues with it. Actually its very fast and has the swype ability no lag what's so ever, smooth as butter! Sense has done a beautiful job with adding such nice smoothness and transitions to android. For those of us that have been on Android ever since it came out this phone has definitely brought the smoothness we've been desiring for so long at least for me. The silver color does look nicer than I thought but I think the white strip that goes all around the side of the phone will get dirty over time. The silver looks very sexy but I believe it won't come close to the sexiness of the black ONE
Overall the phone is a dream its simply laid out with a lot of class. After root and the work that our devs do here the phone is just gonna be disgusting!!!

The picture quality is pretty good. I will take some pictures and post tomorrow. Been using this phone for a few days and love it. The "live" gallery is amazing to watch. After taking some pictures of our kids and just watching her face light up as she watched the gallery come alive proved to me how amazing it truly is.
Phone is definitely getting way to warm.

Even when unplugged?

Only when using. Even light use doesn't do much, but when I am using it for awhile it warms up. 99° atm, have seen it get to 103° while off the charger.

I ran a few benchmark test, jumped to 109°

Coming from the Note 2, when I hit the button, it snapped right away. The S4 has a slight delay when you hit the button. Also I noticed the images look amazingly clear on the screen, yet comes out a bit blurry when you go to look at it. Anyone else have this issue....mainly the button delay.??
That's do to I believe the higher tech Auto-Focus
I notice the delay and also the worse image quality and yes I come from a note 2 as well. I notice if you get really close to something like a paper dollar and try and focus it can't. Where it could on the note 2.

This camera is said to be far better than the Note 2. Grrrr!!
It takes good pics though....check this.!
I saw this too
This is an annoyance of mine as well. But coming from a photography background, I know why the pic is coming out blurry after the delayed shutter... Most times when people hit the button (and the phone is supposed to snap right away...) they have a tendency to move the phone or because of how hard they hit the screen to snap a pic, you are getting camera shake. Trust me, take a pic with the phone on the table and be as still as possible... You will get a crisp shot. And the camera is nice. Although I think the S3 is still tops. Has better noise cancellation in low light than this phone, because at ISO2000 its going to get pretty noisy!
It blows... I completely agree... and hope to god there is an update that fixes this, but after toying with it a bit, I've gotten used to the half sec delay and I am more conscious of being still when taking shots. Even when you have the phone sitting on a table or object, its still important to be as still as possible. Unfortunately the developers are tailoring after the burst shot as everyone's goto "mode" because they want you to use their features thinking "meh just take 10 shots and pic the best" which is STUPID. But unfortunately for any of us who just want to snap 1 good shot, you have to make the adjustment and deal with it until or if they release a fix. Maybe there is something in the source code that a dev can hack through and change the delay to 0. Until then, I feel your pain.
