there are many tools [paid & freeware] available for backing up. i heard that one of the best backup tool is Sprite Backup [though i've never used it].
if you want to backup just the contacts/appointments/smses/etc then u can use PIM Backup available in the forum, that's what i used when i upgraded first time. though this does not backup the original ROM.

but Sprite backup doesn't copy the ROM... Its just the settings... modifications done after ROM hard reset..
Help Needed!!! Noob Here!
Hello Mobix,
I am trying for the past 2 days to upgrade to WM6 following your guide.
Initially, couldnt manage through the camera + voice command button so tried with Gene_HSPL.exe file i found in these forums.
After ages i am able to see SPL as 1.10.Olip.
But now theres another issue which is driving me nuts completely.
Whenever i try to run the RUU from Gene_HSPL in my desktop to upgrade the ROM, my activesync connection dies out and i have to reset Gene.
I have downloaded all files from the links you mentioned in your How-To.
So i m quite stuck with the 1.10.Olip and the step to do after this.
What do i do next?
What do i do to keep my active sync connection going till the full update of ROM???
Desperately seeking suggestion and help here.

Hello Friends,
Dunno how or what or why, but things seem to solve on its own.
After running the RUU for something like 20 times, i went past the blue-green-red screen and the update process started happening.
I have no idea how it happened and i am yet clueless abt the whole thing.
But i have the WM6 OS on my Gene now. I havent been able to get weather details for my location,Mumbai. The data download always fails.
The Internet connection seems to work and the MMS doesnt work.
Have tweaked the registry to set Segoe UI as my system wide default font and every thing looks hunky dory at the moment.
Will holler for help when i need some.
Thanks to Mobix, vukile, olipro ababreka, mun_rus, nirvana and all the others whose forums and posts helped me get this done.
p.s. gotta admit, for a man familiar to windows and linux, these ROM's are pure greek.
ramon_mac, nice to know u were able to flash wm6. cudn't reply u earlier as my system died on me so had to re-install everything.
reg default font, you will have to enable the cleartype for fonts to render properly.

Hi all,
This is my first ROM it's the stock ROM for devices shipped in Egypt. I have followed the process as in the kitchen thread but I don't know how to make sure if this ROM is working properly or not. So hope one of you guys can test it and tell me.
By the way I don't encourage anyone to use this one except those looking for warranty as the GPS is disabled in this ROM.

Yes, check this thread and my discussion with taiseer, he is really a nice guy and made a good job.
By the way if you are not intending to use arabic interface (i.e just reading and writing I encourage you just to use Mobidiv 416 and the keymapper to support the Hardware Keyboard.

Just a kind request to check out the links of the two parts as they are no longer working, and have this message "This file is neither allocated to a Premium Account, or a Collector's Account, and can therefore only be downloaded 10 times." "This limit is reached" and I urgently need this ROM.

I thought Jade had no GPS ship installed. Please correct me if I'm wrong. If it exists the only thing to do is to download the middle east rom from HTC site, it will be enabled by default 9again if GPS exists). Just go to support page, choose either the arabic or wwe rom, put your serial number and download. The rest is easy: connect to activesync, have more than half battery full, double click on the exe file you downloaded, follow the steps, and voila!!!

This is my first public ROM (ONLY FOR NEW GENE), which I have been using for last few days without any issues. This ROM has been possible for two great persons of the Gene forum Sumit Bharadwaj aka krazy_about_technology and ramersonw. They have practically lead me by hand in cooking the ROM.

Thank you Sumit, for publishing your ROMs without protection , so that less mortals like us can use your ROMs as base to cook our own ROMs. As a matter of fact this ROM is based on Sumit’s latest Pro User 2 r 1 ROM. So if you like this ROM, the entire credit goes to Sumit. However if there is some problem, then sorry – I must have deleted something I shouldn’t have. Also please keep the Carrier splash screen, its my way to thank these two wonderful persons. I have deleted a lot of applications which I believe most people do not use, the list of packages that are not there:
1. Cyberon Voice Commander.
2. Voice Recorder.
3. Arcsoft MMS (MMS is pretty expensive, so I am not sure how many pple use it)
4. Windows TaskManager (WK Task is there)
5. Opal Phone Canvas.
6. Connection Setup.
7. Adobe Reader
8. Flash Player
Additional Applications in the ROM:
1. TCPM Player 0.72RC1
2. Dr. Gonzo’s Clean Fonts Cab (Modified), Thank a million Dr. G for getting me hooked to xda.
3. PointUI 2.0
This is my first ROM, so it may have some bugs which I have missed out. So please report the same. I will try to sort them out in the next release.
I am not posting screen shots as they are same as Sumit’s Pro User’s ROM.

oh yes i will,but with old gene its complicated as all ofus know.i had to make two different roms previosly to solve the battery drain problem,and i am still not very sure whats the exact cause this. I guess first some new gene users should test it and then we can continue our efforts for old gene.

@Krazy : Please port the lite rom for OLD GENE. Also PointUI may be stripped from the current ROM ( I don't think it is really needed in stripped down version).

I don't think Sumit will himself port it to old Gene, the best he can do is help me porting it.
BTW Lite ROM doesn't mean a Gene just for making calls . Otherwise I wouldn't have included TCPMP either .
To me Lite means stuffs that are not usually required.

This rom is faster the sumit's rom (my Personal Opinion)
U can Add Acrobat,
song stop when Suspend ( think U can add reg edit with this rom by default)
why not add ur Black theme?

Although which apps are useful and which are useless is a subjective thing and depends from person to person, My personal view is that a lite ROM should contain utilities that doesn't cripples the original funtionality of ROM.
The highly unused parts should be removed, the parts that can be updated should either be updated or if they are frequently updated one, should be provided as recommended downloads and those software that can be easily installed on the storage card should be avoided to be included on ROM (but make sure they are not the one which just show that they are installing on mem card but have hardcoded paths.). Today plugins and dialer are the most important candidates to be included in ROM as they have to be installed on phone mem anyway. .NET framework and others should also be included. Flash plugin is controvertial, it works with some apps, but doesn't works with others.
Plus, initflashfiles.txt should also be checked for unnecessary file copy installations like i was having problem with Audio Manager in previous ROMS.
So as far as this ROM is concerned, i think shaunak should not have included TCPMP and PointUI2 is something that is currently under heavy development so it is up to him to include it or not, as including it provides improved speed of point ui, but it hampers updating of it.

Yeah, you are absolutely right. But we are so fond of flashing our devices (well most of us, as you can see from frequently changing signatures ), I think by the time TCPMP will be updated, all us would have already migrated to a new ROM .
@amolji & nipu_cse thanks for you encouraging words. Actually my ROM may appear faster than Sumit's is because a lot of stuff has been removed from his ROM. But then its a personal opinion. Like I have seen some pple who believe WM 6.5 with honeycomb menu has a faster response than Pro User 2 r1 . I couldn't handle its slowness for 1 hour even and immediately reflashed. Eye candy is good, but not that good . I will definitely keep your suggestions in mind. BTW I tried to integrate the black theme (its not mine, its of P1Tater - one of the Mods, so I wouldn't even dream to call it mine), but did not work .
@krazy: I hope you don't have any issues with the welcomehead file, its just my way of showing gratitude to you two guys

presenting u all my new rom as full but lite version.this rom is build on 28008 core,and makes the screen of niki more wide and lengthy in dimension,and having the last version of 1.9 of the most desired browser for wm.apart from that resco photo manaer,latest edition,and ucweb 6.3 is also included.

About Resco Photo Manager, I'm not sure that is freeware and if it isn't you're not allowed to use it, keep that it mind.
In the hidden upper screen the sound/volume symbol isn't there.
And I don't know how to close UCWEB6 but that could be my fault.
You defenitly give me some inspiration to add on my own rom.

this rom is very good
fast, seems to me that is stable, without bugs so far.
suggestions: i know that we can install any apps we want, but for me there are two apps missing, a small calculator and the office mobile.
once again i know that i can install this apps later but would be great that came with the rom.
to me and to my phone this is the best rom for niki available in xda so far.

The original Greek ROM with some programs removed and most of the rest updated,
from "RUU_Mega_Orange_RO_1.37.70.1" and "RUU_Mega_hTC_Asia_SEA_WWE_1.37.728.3".
Radio version is also the latest.
Build is 21916, which is the most reliable, fast and bug free release.
ROM was created for personal use, since I couldn't find any other simple Greek ROM, and doesn't have any other improvements beacause I'm still a newbie!!
It's been running for two days now on my phone and I haven't found any bugs.

You should have a gmail account and synchronizing it with your phone, through ActiveSync. Then just follow the instructions here: google-calendar-eortologio!!!

I have the same question. I want to translate and cook my ROM. I have the original WWE dumped. I could use some Help. Generaly I am looking for the easiest way of translating a ROM.

Dear Helleenes friends,
found the solution in this program: GREEK LENG FOR WINDOWS MOBILE POCKET PC
it's not so expensive ($49,95), Greek MIO's service demanded 60 Euros to install the Greek ROM.
Since I'm not allowed (yet) to attach an external link, make a Google search using:
Penreader Greek Language Support
and you'll find it. You can download it for a free trial, to see if it works with your device.
And the most important is that the program just translate the full menu,
in case you want to "return" to the English version all you have to do is to unistall it
By the way WORKS FINE with my MIO A702 !!!

Since you have your original rom already dumped you're gonna need one more rom, which is in GREEK and is for your device.
Them it's just a matter of opening both roms with osKitchen and copy paste the language files from one to the other.

I have the same question. I want to translate and cook my ROM. I have the original WWE dumped. I could use some Help. Generaly I am looking for the easiest way of translating a ROM.

Unstable ROM
I tried this ROM on my HTC Mega, and i was suprised in a bad way that this ROM created problems from the first moment. The problem went so far that my usb connenction with my PC disconnected and reconnected in intervals of seconds, so that a flashing back even almost bricked my pda.
