[Q] Screen refresh problem coming out of sleep - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

I have been having a problem with my Prime coming out of sleep. When it wakes, the screen starts blinking like it can't quit refreshing. This is not the same problem as others have had with the screen "tearing" in youtube and live wallpapers, etc. It just keeps refreshing until I reboot because I can't do anything else. I thought it might be from a widget, so I removed all widgets and it still happens. It seems like it gets worse from some widgets that scroll and update, such as Tweetcaster. I posted a video of the problem here:
https://plus.google.com/photos/107424858202142515649/albums/5721612038823578641
If anyone has seen this or can help, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks,
John

Big trouble. Someone's hacking into your tablet. LOLjk but its probably a launcher problem. Get a new one and see if that works.

[Q] gmail crashing

Hello,
Is anyone else having issues with Gmail crashing?
I can get it to crash by looking at "all mail" and then scrolling down.
On my galaxy nexus this scrolling goes back to the server and loads more messages. On my prime it just crashes and goes completely black or crashes to the home screen. I have to then force stop Gmail in order to get it to load again.
I'm having the exact same problem with my prime. I'm guessing it had to do with some other app that is running because if i restart my prime, it doesn't happen again for a while. I've searched and haven't found any others having this problem though.
I also experience some "back to homescreen" while messing in Gmail. I just cleared the data/cache to see if it will help.
I am having these troubles, too. Have anybodies problems been solved (perhaps with the new Firmwares that were put out by Asus - I am still on 9.4.2.11 as I am based in Austria) ?
The .15 update has made it so that I do not crash any longer while scrolling.
Although, sometimes when I scroll down it just sits there....loading conversations....
I still experience gmail crash... I run WW .14. I hope .15 will fix it when it will be available.
Mine crashes as well on the lastest OTA firmware. I don't think I even need to scroll to crash to homescreen. I think it does it even when I just click on an email occasionally.
Gmail crashes soooo often for me. It's driving me batty. Any ideas on how to fix it yet?

In the few cases I've seen mentioned, whether that even helps temporarily is debatable. In my case it didn't help at all, so I just set up the "EMail" app to get my GMail instead of the GMail app.
yes i have tried that mltiple times, removed the gmail widget since i saw some mention that it could be causing the problems. no luck. removed other widgets one at a time as well. removing beautiful widgets seems to help with the home screen "crash" I was experiencing a lot, but does nothing to fix gmail
I guess I'll have to set up another email app or use a browser, but damn! neither are great fixes (
I just started using the ASUS Email app. That seems to work fine, including the widgets.
This is BS
Come on, Asus, this is Gmail, not some goofy homegrown app or a game or something. And this has been going on for a while. It is not something that just started. I swear Asus has their priorities up their ass sometimes.
I have the same problem ever since the last OTA update. The gmail app is virtually unusable, also get a similar problem with Maps crashing out when searching for places but I guess that's for a different thread.
Tried many things one of which, removing the Beautiful Widgets home screen weather/clock widget, solved a different problem where all the icons would disappear from the home screens.
It's a real shame 'cos I've had none of the hardware problems other people have had, but the flaky apps/browser/ICS are really making this tablet very difficult to use as an everyday device. Maybe it's time to unlock and try Virtuous ROM.
Maybe it's related to this:
http://www.androidcentral.com/google-acknowledges-gmail-app-may-be-flickering-says-fix-way
Acer Iconia A500 -- received stock ICS update a week ago and since then Gmail app has been playing up like all of you guys -- random crashes, flickering, freezes etc.
Very frustrating because that's the most used app on my tab. Now I have to revert to using native email app which kinda suck.

[Q]Graphic Rendering Problem?

I face a problem which is about the graphical rendering.
Some apps some button will appear as broken which makes me confuse.
And also when I using the browser to surf on some flash video website, it appear to have some broken rendering problem.
Just like the one you may got on computer 3D rendering.
I know the above are hard to understand, but I really don't know how to present those idea.
Sorry for that and also my bad English.
Thanks everyone who came in this post.
This shows the problem when using friendcaster.
Huh, sorry you are having issues. I have yet to see anything like this on mine.
Hope someone has an answer for you.
I'm not sure entirely what you are asking here... so I'll just ask you, what's wrong in the picture?
However, sometimes while web-browsing, certain pages won't show properly (things missing, or off page and you can't scroll to them). Often this can be fixed by changing the setting of the browser to load pages in PC format, (or tablet/phone/ipad). Sometimes just getting a different internet browser can help too.
As for apps having missing buttons - this could possibly be fixed by going into setting>manage applications>(whatever app it is)
-clear cache
-clear data
Then try opening it again. If it still doesn't work properly, uninstalling it and re-installing it might help (this worked for a friend with his phone just last night).
If you are really desperate to try everything, factory resetting your tablet might help - though you will loose all your data and it isn't garaunteed to help .
Other than that, you have to keep in mind that developers don't exactly have every device made available for them to test their apps on, and this being a honeycomb device, it already has lots of compatibility issues they have to tackle - perhaps a polite email to the developer of the app explaining your problem would result in them eventually making a fix for it. Be sure to include your version of Android (in full) and device name to help him narrow it down.
I wouldn't hold your breath waiting - I sent Gameloft a very polite email over a month ago requesting their support for sony tablet s, and so far, no change (half their games are still not compatibile).
sometimes on apps that aren't 100% compatable with the screen ratio or resolution, i have to press the little square with the arrows pointed outward near the clock and press either "stretch to fill screen" or "zoom to fit screen"
i had the same button issues with speedtest.net app
Thanks everyone who reply on this issue.
Actually what I am facing is about the "triangle" broken mark appear in the picture which show up in the app "Friendcaster".
I think the app should be a pad version as there were no arrow icon.
I am wondering is this a common issue, as I found out the issue of video site is a common one as I have a try out with some display tablet in the retailer.

Flickering screen

I still have the flickering screen problem after .14update. Does anyone have the problem? I am wondering if Asus will fix this problem with future update...The flickering screen is really annoying to me..
Edit: Because of flickering, I no longer use ezpdf reader and switched to "My Library". Then flickering occurred when it was just standing by....

I didn't see this issue until after I upgraded to ICS... I only see it when I use the live wallpaper... lets hope our friend Gary and Asus can figure this out an fix the problem.
Just wait for the custom roms that will come out since the bootloader unlock is out. The Dev's will get all the issues ironed out and make this a great tablet for sure.

have you been able to isolate what applications or events trigger the screen flickering?
it is my belief that the screen flickering issues are caused by bugs in the video drivers. certain applications seem to be causing memory corruption of some sort that leads to this flickering. in my case i am seeing specific applications trigger the issue, and a reboot always fixes it. i am quite sure this is not a hardware problem given those characteristics.
i'm thinking that the best way to address this is to identify some easily reproducible steps, provide this info to Gary and hope this gets passed on to asus/nvidia engineers so that they can identify and fix the bugs.
i rarely seen the issue before the last update, now its constantly, i just did a fresh boot and the very first 10 seconds was the screen flickering.. Pretty annoying i might add. Bcokas here

The only time I see Flickering Screen seems to be using Firefox Browser and I think the App itself causing most if not all the problem.

+1 i have also seen firefox trigger the flickering multiple times
After the ICS update I get horrible flickering, screen tearing, and artifacting in the youtube app in power save mode. Like to the point where it will lock up, turn off and restart itself. Interestingly enough tho, that does not happen in balanced mode or performance mode. Any idea as too why?

Once you used the customer rom, the warranty on your prime will be forfeited. At that time, flickering or not, you have to pay to fix that. Be careful when you do that.

I read somewhere that the screen refresh rate is dropped to 35Hz when in power saving mode. Perhaps that's why?
I have ICS .11 and only have a Flickering Screen when i open the Youtube app and this almost every time..

after reading the other thread, i have found out that the asus weather widget is kinda associated with the flickering. i also see this flickering using ezpdf reader and youtube app and brower. The brower and the pdf reader ones flashes more quickly than the ones caused by the widgets
Just another data point, I see flickering and strange artifacting all the time whenever I run Wyse Pocket Cloud.
YouTube flickers for me.

Temp solution is to turn on ips+ and put brightness to the lowest to save your eyes from blinding lol...
Could this be a .14 issue?
I have a lot of flickering and apps disappear / reappear as apps open and close.
It gets very annoying.
A restart fixes it for a few minutes but then it starts again.
.13 didn't have this issues.

It's an issue with every single update, depending on who you are
Every update so far has fixed some peoples' issues and introduced those same issues to people who previously did not have them.
msg gary?
I just updated my prime to .15 but the flickering still continues... I am wondering if anyone can PM Gary or tell me how to personal message him. I just become a xda member few days ago..so I am not sure how to do it.
Just updated to .15 and still see flickering and artifacts. This looks like driver issue. I had similiar problem on my laptop caused by drivers. Btw i notice so far its flickering on Firefox, YouTube and that Pinball game from nvidia tegra zone ( on game after i closed youtube, before it was ok)
Using the YouTube app is the best way I can reproduce it on mine:

[Q] New Screen Glitch?

I have a stock, unrooted Prime, on the current firmware (.21). Occasionally it will display this peculiar screen glitch - it reminds me of video card overheating symptoms I've seen on a few laptop monitors. The main artifacts show on the left hand side of the screen, as well as home screen icons and home bar jumping up and down a few pixels. It shows up in both applications and on the home screen. The issue is not dependent on the dock being connected - I tested with and without it. I have searched this forum as well as other sites, and have not seen anything similar.
Today I managed to take a few videos and have posted one on youtube. The link is
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dD6CbK6KL4Q
Has anybody encountered this problem before? Or have any suggestions?
Thanks
I've had that happen before on one of my primes, it was fixed by a quick reboot. For me it happened in the youtube app, so I also cleared the app's cache just to be sure, hasn't happened since.
I really don't mean to be a whinny *****.... but dude, there are enough threads about this exact same problem in the forums already. You really should have searched before creating another one.

Like I said in the OP, I did search on this forum as well as others, and have not seen anything similar. There are many reports of a tearing while opening/closing apps from the previously opened list, as well as horizontal banding across the whole screen. Also, the posts I could find were from people on previous firmware versions, who reported their issues disappearing after updating to the latest (.21).
For those two reasons (unique symptoms, and firmware), I considered this a potentially new problem, and created this question thread.
Feel free to link to similar threads you have found though. It could help me and others.

Interesting. (You have multiple primes?)
The first time this happened to mine, I had not used youtube at all. But since then, watching youtube videos has been the most consistent trigger to get the problem to occur.
The most recent time it happened, I noticed that the flickering stopped while I had my finger on the screen. (Conductive problem with video chip??)
I had this happen to me also with the camera application. I powered it off and back on again and it cleared it.
I have had this happen before. Mine looks worst though and the whole screen actually changes color, sometimes inverted color. Luckily it only happens when I connect to my HDtv through HDMI and doesnt appear like that on my TV. Usually clears itself without a reboot when I touch the screen or disconnect the Prime from the TV.

This is the issue I have when the screen is allowed to fall asleep while watching video (YouTube included). Open a YouTube video full screen, pause it, let the screen go black and lock. Now when you turn the screen back on see if the issue happens on the lock screen

Screen Flickering

I am getting this annoying screen flicker. The screen will dim as if it's going to sleep and then brighten again. This happens when typing, opening apps, and other times. I can deal with it but it is getting annoying.
Does anyone else have this issue and if so, any fixes for it?
I was having same problem. I think it might be a app causing it. My PayPal app I think did it to mine.
I have this aswell lol i thought it was just me “ it happens randomly with me on apps like twitch an youtube “ my screen dims then brightens twice in a row quickly “ i thought it was just reading the apps that i had moved to sd card so i put them back on device but it still dose it atleast twice a day “ weird?? must be a software bug as its not normal or called for surely “ its only recently started doing this so im all out of ideas maybe ill factory reset and use my phone for a day without installing anything to see if it still happens

Had the same thing, when opening camera the navigation bar would bleed through into the UI, appeared like a slow flicker, removed PayPal after researching and problem gone.

I've disabled Google smart card notices. I noticed mine doing it when the weather alerts from Google would pop up in my notifications list. I tapped the weather message and went to the Google page, then to settings and disabled notifications and the smart cards all together.
I have actually been to the point I was ready to take the brand new phone back to Verizon over this. But I didn't want a "re manufactured" or "second" after paying for this beast.
I'll see if this helps and report back.

That didn't work...
Going to try removing the PayPal app....
I think I've seen this issue here and there, and also where the screen will almost 'invert' colors... Not exactly, but things will look sort of greyscale-ish for a short while. I THINK it's when the device is in sunlight, so could this be an adaptive feature? It seems to be remedied by covering the light sensor
Same issue here....
It seems completely random - but it's always 2 large flickers - as if the screen is almost turning off, and then back on - twice...
Still the best phone ever - i'm sure this will get resolved.
I had this problem too ` i removed the paypal app 2weeks ago and it went away permanently
Have had the same issue on the Verizon and AT&T varient. Had PayPal app on both. I just removed the PayPal app so lets see if that works. Otherwise this phone is pretty nice.
Same here. ..
I've also noticed this issue sporadically, though I haven't been able to tie it to any one task. Seems more like a an OS/application programming issue with the core system. It's kind of annoying; hopefully it'll be pathedone in an update, though i'my not sure if LG is aware of the issue or not...

interesting, this happened to me as well, but it went away after I rebooted several times... still have the Paypal app installed, but if it comes back I'll try removing it.
Having issue on an LG stylo 2. Usually occurs in Messaging app, but 5 minutes ago occured while in dolphin browser. No paypal app on phone, all apps have background data restricted unless on wifi (All Apps), and it only started today. Phone is current for all updates.
