Ok guys ive been running AOKP milestone 4 for over a week now and am loving it. I follow the forums kinda closely and see most people are running custom kernels. Now ive tried a Glitch kernel while I was on TSH 6.5. Loved the speed and CPU tweeks, however as soon as I would flash it I would loose my 3G. Everytime this would happen. In addition to not being able to successfully do a backup. So I went back to stock.
So now that Im on AOKP 4 I see some of yous are still running a glitch kernel so I tried to put one one yesterday.....I saw the Glitch splash screen(BTW I am still trying to figure how to change splash screens ...so if anyone learned something new... ) and thats the last thing I saw. LOL It just froze on that screen. Had to go back to stock and rebuild.
So does anyone have an idea of compatible kernel for AOKP 4 with maybe an idea of what I did wrong.
Before you guys jump on me and tell to look on other threads, I have. I dont post unless Im truely stuck.

In order to get the Glitch splash screen you will need to Odin Gingerbread bootloaders.
As for you losing 3g, that tells me you're flashing the wrong version of Glitch. (or you're not on Verizon)
Ssewk2x fixed the nandroid failure for the most part in his latest test kernel as well, he has a Dropbox link up somewhere. Search through his posts if you need it. This kernel should also be compatible with AOKP M4 so it's your best bet.
I am def on Verizon. And as for the proper version of the kernel, I was simply flashing the same version everyone else said they were running. B5 V14 i think it was.
Whatcha mean GB bootloader?
i just tried to flash V14 B5 for ths build 6 which seems to be what others are running again, and yet again no 3G. cant find a fix for it. Oh well stock kernel for me for now i guess.

If you are using build 6 you should be flashing the kernel that specifically says it's for build 6.
Why are you flashing build 6 anyway? It's outdated by two releases, build 7 just came out this afternoon.
There's no fix for it because nothing is broken.
EDIT* I flashed 6.1 and i got 3G

Uuuhm, you can get info on how to do it here. Just don't use that param.lfs, I don't know what would happen. **** might blow up.
I haven't looked at this MOD for a long ass time, so I really can't help you there.

Hey guys.... Thanks to a member here at XDA, Krylon360, I have gotten my hands on the unreleased 2.2.1 Espresso OTA and so as usual my first stop in is to provide the new radio update while I sort the patches out and get you guys a stock rooted ROM... So without further chit chat as I got some work ahead of me, heres the new radio update taking baseband to 7.15.35.16.... Havent noticed much change although I have also tested nothing speedwise tbh so I will let you all report back on these things.... Grab the radio update here or here and let me know of any improvements or even negative effects it has caused with data, battery life, wifi, etc.... A CR_Mod stock., rooted OTA will follow shortly and you guys can get your much awaited 2.2.1 Froyo Espresso on early since TMO wants to lag..... Have fun... CR
PS: I did this with an update script rather than an updater script as it was easiest in windows which Im on for the moment... I will convert to an updater script in a little while. What does this mean you ask? It means any of you who have flashed the unsupported as of yet CWM 3.0+ rec images that are floating around will not be able to flash the radio. To fix this, use rom manager to reflash the current supported CWM rec, flash the radio, and if you must, reflash the CWM 3.0+ rec in fastboot.
Flashing!

thank you, flashing now
just flashed over your 2.1 espresso rom and everythings running smoothly, will try speed tests now!!!
I've flashed it, but I'll have to wait till l8r to test it. Sounds like a nice update. Thanks!
Any way you can release the unrooted ota while we wait for it to be rooted?
Holy cow, wasn't expecting this, downloading here in a sec and then flashing!
EDIT: I think I may have experienced a double in downloading speed... But I could just be thinking that's whats going on.
Got to love when ChiefzReloaded popup with a new thread always a something good about to happen or have happen. Will steal my gf phone when she gets back home and try it out.
P.S. only thing i really want from that rom is the call over wifi app
Enjoy guys. I'll keep CR updated if I find anything new.
I was running cm7 but I flashed crmod instead then radio and speeds are soo noticably faster this is awsome

Chiefz, thanks for the radio dump. I flashed via fastboot. Haven't noticed *any* changes whatsoever, though... Not that surprising.
I am, however, most interested in the actual contents of the froyo OTA. Any chance you could put the whole zip up for download before you root it and defang it?
It wont flash on a non rooted phone... It does a version check and it looks for a version we don't even have so it fails.... Im looking for the esprimg that may help the process... Not sure if this is gonna be as easy as last time... CR

Well, at least in *my* case, I only want the zip so I can take it apart and see if I can appropriate the wifi calling bits for CM7. But if you don't want to release it just yet I understand. Thanks for providing the radio at least.
Im not sure what is goin on..i flashed the new radio in recovery..then after it rebooted it still shows 7.09.35.10 as my radio..but i also noticed last night after i flashed build 8 of cm7 it still shows in the phone info as build 7.. am i doin something wrong or is it a bug.

Oh true, mine says that to. I used the mediafire link to download it. Installed in Clockwork recovery. I'm on CM6.1.1
same thing happen to me @ first. I flashed through fastboot using the radio.img... and it worked like a charm...
Second on the raw files in a zip that you have if you can
I flashed this radio so far so good, thank you !!
Will this radio work on ArayrayMod Revamped if so I'll absolutely be flashing asap.
ok so here is my problem. i have been flashing roms on this phone for well over a year and this whoe cm7 thing makes no sense and not to mention everything is very vague.. i need clarification on a few things.
when i click the cm7 official thread and read the dl instructions it jsut says odin to stock and flash basically. Well last night i did that and and emmc doesnt mount or something... i dont know exactly except that i couldnt download all the google apps for failure of memory????/ and if i click music and pictures it doesnt show up but shows up fine when i go into files and play directly from emmc files.
so whats going on with that and did i mess somethign up?
second the cm7 direcrions for install or drastically different tahn than the wiki cm7 full update guide which tells me to be on uvkb5 firmware and instill overstock kernal and then do a bunch of stuff to get cm7 where as the official link here jsut says flash it ?
next if i have to full update guide using uvkb5... well i have got it rooted but its still 3e recovery... and i have yet to find a solid answer on how to get around that...
jsut basically i need clarification... THERE IS WAY TO MUCH UP IN THE AIR WITH THIS CM7...... is it really that damn complex to put on my phone?
u know what actualyl ill jsut update to miui since there is actually a freaking simpicated guide a few posts down
** this needs to be done with cm 7

Do you happen to be talking about my guide (which is a few posts down currently)? If so I'll be glad to help you with any steps on my guide, using the rom, or customizing MIUI to best suit your needs.
Furthermore, MIUI is a great rom and has brought life back into my Vibrant! MIUI is easily customizable, much more then CM7. And there are hundreds of themes for the custom firmware popping up everyday so I'm sure you'll be satisfied.
MIUI IS cm7.
Lol flashing cm7 is easy, just follow the xda thread guide... if your emmc is acting wierd, its probably because you have gb bootloaders whivh are not completely compatible with cm7.. if im right, youll have the same problem with miui... thats the best i can do

I put the TeamHackSung ICS 6.5 rom on my Fascinate, and then installed the Glitch v1.4 beta 5 kernel. Found that my 3G no longer would connect. I looked through the dev thread, and in post #5 saw, "Signal won't work, this kernel is GSM, your fascinate is CDMA" (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459530&highlight=glitch+v14)
That sounds pretty definitive that you can't use this Glitch kernel with the Fascinate, yet I could have sworn I've read about others using it. Am I misunderstanding something here?

im running glitch v14 b5 on ths 6.5 with no issues.
Humph. That certainly makes sense, given that the Glitch thread is in the Fascinate forums...but why did someone say there's a CDMA vs GSM problem?
Lemme try reinstalling it, after first doing another Nandroid backup.
Is the kernel that comes with TeamHackSung ICS 6.5 rom available, so that I don't have to fuss with Nandroid if I need to revert from Glitch?
just reflash the rom but dont wipe data.
Nope...got the same result. No 3G access.
Anything else I can try?

Groan...I'll have to put off starting over for a bit; I don't have time right now to set up everything again. And I'm a bit worried about "reactivate your current device" since, per my other thread, I'm unable to get a dial pad when calling *228.
the problem is you flashed the glitch b4 for 6.0 instead of the b4 6.1 version. If you read my guide it clearly states which version to flash. Also that link you posted is for the TELUS Fascinate NOT the Verizon Fascinate...
Well, I flashed with the b5 for 6.1 version, and while the 3G worked, I ended up with the unable-to-Nandroid-backup bug. Since the only remedy I could find (clear the cache and Dalvik) didn't help, I've gone back to the kernel that came with TeamHackSung ICS. I'll keep an eye posted to see if future Glitch versions manage to fix the backup bug. Thanks for all the help.

S'pose that's a workaround, although it makes the noob in me a bit nervous to keep flashing part of the OS like that.
Plus, despite having read the feature list, I'm still not clear just what switching to Glitch does for me.

Glitch gives you the ability to overclock up to 1500mhz... also in call audio is clear and alot more crisp than the stock kernel...the bug where you have to always adjust the volume down on every call is fixed aswell. I also like the glitch recovery alot better...you can wipe cache and dalvik at the same time.

Yes, thanks, someone told me that on another thread. To summarize:
To activate phone or update roaming without a keypad:
*22890 ---> This will program/activate your phone.
*22891 ---> This will update your roaming capabilities.
No need to hit other buttons after dialing. Let it finish, and reboot your phone.
You can also try dialing star 228 and then hit the menu button and add 8 or 10 2-second pause to it... It will look like this: *228,,,,,,,,,1

Here ya go.
You don't really "need" the bootloaders before flashing glitch, but you should definitely have them to minimize any issues. Also, if you like BLN, I would flash B4 as opposed to B5, it's not working quite right on the latest beta.

With the B5 kernel, my backlights come on when I have unread emails...and since I don't check them very often, I worry the feature is using a lot of battery. Is there a way to turn it off?

I was looking forward to moving on up to KitKat with PAC ROM however I simply got bootloops after flashing both nightlies and the dr87 kernel. I'm on ZVA and I am to understand it would brick your phone to the point of returning to full stock without flashing the ZV8 radios or the dr87/Furnace kernel, but to get stuck in a bootloop lost me.
I was also surprised at how iffy it can be about getting into recovery.
However, I do look forward to checking the rom out when I can get things straight.
Edit: One more shot has it booting into setup. Used Furnace kernel this time as opposed to dr87's but it might've been something in the way I was flashing the ROM anyway.

I wish I had known that kernel didn't work sooner, as it doesn't really warn against that in the OP...
I didn't flash the 03/04 nightly. My first thought was that it was the problem.
After sorting all this however, I was annoyed to find that the touch screen wasn't responding in the first application I installed, so I just went back to what I had. I'm sure it'll get worked out eventually (or I'll read about a fix soon enough, either way).

Really? I had no issues on 3/3 nightly, but 3/4 was all kinds of borked. It's SUPER early though, hell I'm amazed that it's as stable as it is, seeing as how it's the first few nightlies.
Hey Guys,
After seeing what we were able to do with the AOSP Rom and SafeStrap, couldn't help but wonder if the same be done with Cyanogen? I know Cyanogen normally boots with AOSP style kernels, but if a Google Edition ROM can be booted... shouldn't Cyan be able to? Couldn't we use the GE/CM11 Edition in the Development Section, then remove the cyan kernel (so ours goes untouched, not tripping KNOX)?
I know that it would be feature barren due to kernel differences, but its still cyan

Alright so I just tried to do that. I got as far as the boot ani then it simply loops repeatedly and vibration keeps going off. I let it sit for 10 minutes I don't know if I am missing something or forgot something on the build I worked on. I can upload it to my AFH account if you want me to so you can see if I am missing something.
Also best of luck on the CM11 stuff. :good:

nothing, this ROM is MDK only. im pretty sure cm is the same way. i highly doubt we can get CM booting just by screwing with the kernel. i actually brought up the idea but.. it's probably not possible.

Actually, you are right, just screwing around with the kernel WILL NOT work, but building CM from source using the "build with stock kernel" option SHOULD work. If AOSP/GE will work, it should. Just ripping the Boot.mg out and replacing with ours will not work.
But I started work today and forked a lot of Github repos and have begun work on CM for SafeStrap. Time Will Tell

Yeah we do have a bit of the ground work with the AOSP/GE ROMs that mostly work on NC5 that could be used towards getting CM11 working. Now I don't know beyond that what it will take to get CM11 to work with the stock kernel but I would have to think that at least if it does get working then the issues we have right now on the AOSP/GE ROMs can be fixed since we'd have the ROM source/Github/etc to work from on this.
Well if anything, the at&t rom gives me hope for the future.. That ROM is a great daily driver. They even have WiFi tethering fixed (its a manual fix that requires putting commands into terminal emulator, its still a fix though)
Also for those who miss USB file transfer.. I've always found it to be way too slow for any practical purposes. Airdroid is way faster than USB mtp on touchwiz.
