Wow, great idea. Can't wait to see what people come up with. That sure is a lot of incentive. And I definitely wouldn't mind some sweet s-pen apps.
I'm definitely preparing a project for this SSAC, this is some serious opportunity, both in terms of cash and promotion.
I believe that using not only the S-Pen SDK but also other Samsung APIs such as the Chord SDK can be one of the factors which will make the difference.

This is a sad day for pure android lovers. We will be missing the main man behind cyanogenmode. We will be missing samsung,HTC,Acer and may be LG from the main android scenario cause moto will get the first mover advantage for any new android release.Google will treat all other manufactures as second citizens and guss what Microsoft is waiting for this, they are already offering profit sharing between partners.

In one of most important news from Android hacking scene, Steve Kondik aka Cyanogen has announced via his Facebook profile that he now works for Samsung Mobile. This lead developer and founder of CyanogenMod also stated that his side project CM is not affiliated in any way with this employer.
There is no word on how this will impact CyanogenMod, but there shouldn’t be much. CyanogenMod is a result from community of devs, with Steve contributing significantly to it.

May be but I am concerned about the second problem. Users don't want android to be in the hands of one company.we need more companies following android it can give us more choice more freedom and value for money.obviously we need Samsung for sgs2,HTC for their sense, sony for that PlayStation controlls,Acer for their value for money approach and LG for their **** coding.

Honestly, when I look around in the XDA forums and see how many mods you can find for a given phone model, most of them running faster and better then stock rom, I always wonder how come none of these talented programmers are not hired by the phone companies. Most of the time, in the software team they have people who miss the passion that these devs have.
On the other hand, it will be interesting to see how much he will be able to work for Samsung, as any big company has a lot of rules and regulations to follow, that he might not be very fond of.
So what's next?
We can expect Microsoft to pick up RIM and HTC much like it picked up Nokia, lock down computer hardware manufacturers with stringent guidelines and add stores to compete with Apple on service. Apple will aggressively build out its cloud infrastructure and beef up AppleTV to fend off the XBox. Google will continue to beef up its productivity apps and focus on consumer hardware. All three will compete on the next generation of answers-oriented, Siri-like search.
Even the carriers could be in play, with former Apple President Jean-Louis Gassée predicting that Google will acquire TMobile. Sound crazy? Comon Google needs stores to compete with Apple and Microsoft. And owning a carrier just raises the stakes for the other two even further. Its no crazier than Google buying Motorola. Game on.

Cyanogen to make Android 'more awesome'
Free whitepaper – CIOs feel the pressure to optimize the online experience
The creator of one of the most popular Android modification kits has taken a job as a software engineer with Samsung's mobile device unit.
Steve Kondik, the hobbyist hacker behind CyanogenMod software, confirmed the appointment with Samsung Mobile on his Facebook page and to several bloggers.
“I will be working on making Android more awesome,” he told AndroidandMe.
In a dispatch to AndroidGuys, Kondik indicated he had no plans to step away from CyanogenMod:
... it's a job and I'm glad that I can use what I learned from all this to do something cool in the real world I'll still be doing code review and some leadership for CM, but I'll be keeping it legit like always. ... I think we really broke away from the modding community. Most of us are professional engineers or in the field some way or another.

Hey guys I have had a lot of fun with the Galaxy Player Community and I would love to say thanks to all the great developers like Rueben, tsunura, and Supermaster who have put out amazing ROMs and have been overtly helpful. But the time has come and I need to move on. I was really hoping to assist or independently develop a ROM for you guys before this event happened....But less fate had other plans...
Anyway as the title says I will be selling my Galaxy Player, and if any of you are interested here is the ebay link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/140808670010?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649
However, fear not I will still be hovering around the Galaxy Player Forums and assisting you young lads and maidens in your quest for technological development. And if the time is right, I will put out at least 1 ROM for all of you to enjoy.
Anyway I would just like to thank all of you in the Galaxy Player Forum, you all have been amazing....Thanks
Good luck glad you enjoyed my ROM
If its OK with you I could post a link to your auction on the RemICS-UX community forum. Might generate some interest

you do realize you will be lucky if you can find someone to give you even half what they are going for now, unfortunately any non-apple device is typically unknown and ignored and no one these days will come anywhere near retail, hell i've got stuff (car performance parts) on craiglist for half what they cost new and the few emails I get people are only offering half that number.

I picked up a Used-Like New Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0 from Amazon.com Warehouse deals on 07/09/12
for $148.03. When I received it it looked brand new in the box. They had 2 other devices listed in the same
condition at that time for the same price. I just checked again today and they have another one listed as
Used - Like New for once again $148.03. What is strange they have another one listed in the same condition
$189.05. And many listed as Used - Good or Very Good in the $179-$185 range.

I'm including some extra cables and an invisible shield full maximum which was $20 dollars so if the price range is $179-185 the price of the invisible shield bumps it up to $199-205. So if I offer it at the price you gave I will basically be ripping myself off, considering I have the invisible shield and other extras.

I might be selling my galaxy player as I really NEED the money. I need a new phone. And some other stuff. Really really just need money right now. So I was wondering how much a used, like new galaxy player 5.0 can be sold for?
I might not sell it if the price isn't right so we'll have to see. I know I was working on an ics kernel but I can't do that right now. I have to much stuff going on. I have school, young marines, and any other side jobs i can find. And on top of that My grandma just got put in the hospital. So let me know if your interested.

I agree! I recently sold my Samsung Galaxy 4.0 for $100 along with a case - it was in perfect condition. When I bought it, it was nearly $200, so I got just a little over half my original price. With so many new tablets coming out, along with rumored devices, it seems this player loses it value quite quickly. Heck, in just a matter of months, the price for the 4.0 and 5.0 has fluctuated a lot through such sources as Amazon.
Still a great little media player in my opinion, though!
I bought mine for only $135.00
I'd say a "like new" galaxy player 5.0 could easily be sold for £150 (use Google if you want in dollars)

Galaxy Player 5.0's are about $200's in the US for a new one at the store. I got mine for $180 tax included at Micro Center in California.
Id say $160.
In Korea, 16GB SGP 5.0 with decent quality (meaning very little scratch and no corner fractured) is worth around 160,000 WON
which is around $140. I don't know about US
I honestly think 150 bucks is worth it, considering you used it a year yet there's barely damage made

I have both and the s3 is better, I won't lie.
Much smoother, the cpu/gpu is a big upgrade.
I would do it. I go back and forth between the two, but imo the s3 is the superior of the two.
Now the note 2 on the other hand....

If we're to believe Samsung Display, the display arm of Samsung, which is actually a desperate company, there might not be a Note 3 as we know it. They're replacing both the Note 2 display, as well as the S3 display with a 1920x1080 4.99 inch panel this year. This according to Anandtech. I suppose we could see a curved OLED touting Note, but then again, flexible OLED yield isn't supposed to be good enough for production runs til 2014.
Unless they're keeping the display a secret, this is what most would expect. This doesn't mean that they'll have some other type of offering or combination to allow SPen functionality on say....the S4, but I wouldn't personally design a new chassis around an S4 and call it a Note.
I'd definitely choose the S3 at this point. The Development support will last significantly longer than it will for this device. Isn't it the most popular Android device ever? That is to say, more users often means more ROMs, the pressure to update and develop for it will be higher.
Since were not talking about an upgrade, its a no brainer.
But if you had to use an upgrade, or pay more than say....50-100 bucks (personal figure) I definitely wouldn't do it. A new generation of SoCs is just around the corner. Just as well, the GPU is much more powerful on the S3, but app support and UI/general performance isn't too much better now that we have 4.2 AOSP. And while an official JB is probably a couple months out, but it will bring most Note2 features home for us.
That's the current sitrep for both devices.

Personally I love my note and it's plenty fast with the stable roms out there. My gf has a S3 and it's a nice device and I can really see the appeal but it really depends on WHAT you plan on doing with it. I remote into computers and my home network. Work on servers all from my phone so moving to a smaller screen isn't what I'd do. It has the horsepower to show up plenty of phones and though it's a gen old with older hardware, I kept my 86 toyota camry longer than I've had this phone and THAT was a piece of crap.
But again it's all about needs and wants. If you feel that you need the faster phone and are willing to loose the screen size, I say go for it.

Agreed, with new phone announcements coming up soon it doesn't make sense to upgrade for any form of currency, but in a straight trade, it might be worth it.

True, but I'd hazard to guess that's more due to the devs waiting for official JB to be released. But as my gf likes to remind me, I'm often wrong

Sorry it's taking so long to get a copy of this.... It seems as though my engineering teacher "hasn't has the time" to do it. Ill start bugging him about it and get one rolling.
Is anybody still interested?

my friend and I just bought a 3d Printer but it won't be here until November, if you haven't started producing by then, let me know we can start making them.
To calculate your cost of materials I would print a prototype, before cleaning check the weight of the materials and calculate it from there. your average cost of printing material in both PLA and ABS is approx $25 a KG.
So say the case printed (with print structures included as that's still material used) weighs 30 grams (HIGHLY doubtful it would weigh that much. the note weighs 178grams) your break even cost for printing materials would be 75 cents. If you were to add $2 for your time and the energy used to produce it you'd be making at least a buck take home. Then you have shipping materials, if you plan on sending it in a nice bubble wrapped envelope that's another buck plus shipping cost which wouldn't be more than another buck or so. So in practice I would say if you were to charge $5 you'd take home a buck from each one. I know that isn't a LOT of money, but for $5 I'm sure everyone here would buy one.
--EDIT--
All the prices I gave you were intentionally high. you can get the material for as cheap as $18 a KG retail and if your engineering teacher is purchasing it, the cost of materials would be even less, your weight of your case will probably be half that reducing your cost even further. I'd hazard to guess that your total cost of just the printable material would be in the ballpark of 30c a unit. the rest of that money is all pocket able not to mention because you'll increase the number you produce per roll you're looking at a profit of about $112 and 66 units a KG of material vs $41.25 and 33 units under my previous price points assuming you still sell it at $5 each. NOW all these are ballpark assumptions and I haven't delved in deep with these figures so there are factors I haven't processed.

Thanks a lot! That was very helpful.
I would be very interested in you printing them.
I'm bery hopeful the prototype will get printing tomorrow or Monday.
And I'm very doubtful my engineering teacher Will let me print more than one.
I usually use a case so if somebody autos like to buy the first just express interest.

Let me talk with my friend, but we might be able to work something out offline if you were able to provide cad models for us to print out based on devices. Also I delved a bit more in the pricing in my previous post based off material costs and other factors and I wouldn't be surprised if your engineering teacher changed his mind if it was lucrative enough.

That sounds great. It's in auto desk ".ipt" format and idk how to make it compatible to your printer. But I have access to the Autodesk software at anytime and if you want me to make more for other devices that would be awesome.
Pm me and we could work on some details
