Is there a way (or better yet an app) that can trick the GNote into thinking it's on WiFi? I was trying to use GTalk earlier today but it would not allow me to connect over 4G. It said it needed to be on WiFi. Is that by design or am I doing something wrong?
Were you trying to video chat over GTalk? Or just use regular old GTalk? Video chat has a limitation of being WiFi only (blame AT&T), but if you search the forum someone has a modified GTalk apk you can install to bypass the requirement.
EDIT: Nevermind, it wasn't a modified apk. The link you are looking for is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1515561&highlight=google+talk

Thanks for the link and info! I got GTalk working over 4G now. Certainly not as fluid as WiFi but it works!

Hi all,
I have been trying for weeks to get the IM.apk on my htc hero by installing it through appinstaller and pushing it through terminal. I also put the ImProvider.apk, TmoImPlugin.apk, com.android.im.plugin.jar and so on. I have tried everything to get it working. All i want is the native IM app that has msn and yahoo because it was my favorite on the G1. I use google talk but i also want the official IM app. Anyone figure out a way to do this? I have been at this for weeks. Please help me, thanks

PLEASE!!!!
Anyone knows how can we install this IM?
Thanks...
Just an FYI, but it's largely a waste of time unless you happen to be a T-Mobile US customer since it doesn't work over cellular data for the more common protocols (AIM, MSN etc). If you are a T-Mobile US customer, it will "work" via a cellular connection, but does so using SMS messages - if you have any other carrier SIM, it will complain that it cannot read your phone number.
If you just want to use if over WiFi - it works fine.
There was a hacked version of this floating round the Dream forums some time ago that did allow proper cellular data instant messaging, but I've no idea what happened to it.
Regards,
Dave

Actually, this is being worked on at the moment by inkredi and myself. Progress can be tracked through the thread that inkredi linked to. Both of us have some ideas, but not a ton of time to work on it. I'm fairly confident we'll get it working 100% fairly soon though.
Hello everyone. I have a question. Is there an app or any way to send video you've taken (NOT using the MMS setting!) say to facebook or email it to someone? I took a 4 second test video and tried to open it with gmail and it said the file was too big to attach.
Just wondering if anything was out there.
Great site, by the way. Also, I'm pretty new to this so don't mind me if I ask dumb questions. I only ask because I want to understand.
Thanks,
Dan
Why not upload to youtube and then you could send a link to the video?

Never tried that. Will it allow uploads of the bigger video files NOT in the MMS format?
I've uploaded like 5 minute videos taken with my phone. Only downside is to upload you need wifi since the files are so large.
Hello all,
Today I have discovered that I cannot upload videos to youtube anymore because there is a login problem with it. From what I have seen this comes from the HTC Sense Account Manager Login that fails to login this.
Anyone having any ideas of why this is happening? Everyone having the same problem or is it working for someone?
Thank you very much in advance for your help.
Same Problem here. Artemis ROM
I discovered the same problem. Stock TMOUS ROM.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
That's got something to do with the link between youtube and google accounts.
But, you don't have to enter youtube login data on your HD2 for uploading a video.
- login to youtube.com
- goto Account Settings
- goto Mobile Setup
- there you will see an email address
- send your video from your HD2 as attachment to that email address
That's it.
Have also a look on this tutorial or this site: http://www.youtube.com/mobile.
Yes indeed this is a solution as well...I was just thinking if it would be possible to solve this issue and make it work as it was before. But yes indeed the solution you have proposed should work perfectly with an email account on the device.
Thank you very much for the help.

This is definitely not the first and maybe not the last thread on that topic.
There is no fix and got nothing to do with Sense.
Haven't you seen my answer two posts above yours and how YouTube/Google wants videos to be uploaded/shared from mobile devices?
Again: have a look here: http://www.youtube.com/mobile
I had heard of this problem before, and it happened to me once. The solution for me was to connect over cell network only (disable wifi). Then I was able to connect.
Or maybe it was the other way around (disable phone and try wifi only), but I'm pretty sure I had to disable my wifi, then it worked.
Anyway, try it.

I know there's some lengthy workaround to the lack of live/msn support on the Touchpad, but it also seems pretty buggy. Is there a plugin available or client app at all?
Thanks!
I dont have a touchpad yet but if nothing else works you could a web app for it.
For example: http://imo.im

are you talking about the Jabber workaround? If my Gtalk worked I would use it.
The imo site it cool thanks LP.
[Q] Windows live messenger/MSN client or compatability
The default instant messenger client on the touchpad doesn't presently support WLM/MSN. Does anyone know of any plans to create a dedicated app or a plug in for the stock IM application?
I was going to ask the same thing. Seems like search isnt working, but someone mentioned there is hack to get it working. Just wish search was up! grr
Please make sure that you check the forums before creating new threads. I can understand it can be difficult if the forum has run into 100's of pages, but this is just about 4 pages. There is no excuse to not search or to just simply browse.
Please read the rules and new Iron Fist Operation before posting in the forums.
This thread has been merged with an existing thread on the same subject.

seems a bit much for what its worth, but if youve got some free time
If nothing else works you could try install an msn program from UbuntuChroot?
[Q] can you get msn messenger on the touchpad ?
I see the likes of google, aol etc are there, but the most popular one isn't ?
anyway of adding msn messenger to the hp touchpad ?
the only way ive seen is to use the jabber work around, just google 'jabber touchpad' and it will come up, but you need linux to make it work it seems :/ other than that you could always just use ebuddy from the browser doesnt seem to have any discernible lag
Yeah the chat program is a little lame...no MSN or Facebook chat...and the facebook app doesn't include the chat feature...so have to use plain web browser.
Any update on this? I really need/require msn/windows live messenger support
There is a way to do it, when I have a little time I'll see if I can find the site with instructions.
I searched and found nothing for exactly what I'm looking for. Apologies if there is and I didn't find it.
I've tried these two programs...
- ClockWork Tether
- PDANet+
They work great... except when I try to stream from Netflix/Amazon/Hulu/Etc...
I'm looking for a way to stream videos through these major streaming sites with my AT&T HTC One without AT&T knowing I'm tethering to a laptop or a desktop.
I've tried both of these and found I could browse the web just fine... but when I hit Netflix, for example, it tells me I don't meet the requirements for the stream... which is related to how Tether/PDANet+ proxy the connection... I'm guessing.
The site doesn't see the laptop/computer as a viable streaming platform.
Has anyone ever gotten either of these, or a 3rd app, to work by streaming content but at the same time hiding from AT&T's tether detectors?
HTC One
Cyanogen MOD 10.1
Any help or a firm "THIS CAN'T BE DONE" would be appreciated.
Thanks!
Please move this to the Q&A section.
I'm an idiot.
Thanks.
