Hi Folks,
I create new thread just for easy that we focus on kernel building here and continue with rom on existeing thread
This kernel is almost all standard very minor changed. config based on "prebuilt" Q8650_perf_defconfig. ramdisk is from 408 firmware. I installed 408 rom by olleh (odexed ... duhhhh). No optimation have been made since I have no idea what should be optimized. Give me idea ... LOL
- download zip file from this thread > no heavy since only 3.3 MB flashable via CWM. Get CMW from TheManii (my Guru in android compilation). See the kernel version is x1123

what you get :
- customs kernel
- fully rooted system i.e you can do on fastbot $adb remount to have write access to device.
- suggest flash TheManii Streakdroid4-250 and immediately flash this kernel.
The main reason SD4 250 is hard to install is due to using a stock kernel, it's also the reason I havnt released SD5 250 at all (as there's plenty of alternatives)
If you're willing: just make a kernel with as little changes as possible, but with signature checking disabled for /system apks.
I dont think it's as simple as setting ro.secure=0 as I've made a modified ramdisk and it still fails on modified apks (pretty much every one in SDx 250 as I've added langs back to them)
I dont think I have the time to also learn how to recompile entire kernels, esp since SDx 25x is primarily intended for my own use. But I'd def like to release it with a modified kernal that would allow users to install it easier.
Hi TheManii.
This is my first time recompile linux kernel for android. It is really pain (comparing to recompile for PC). I will check and surf how to do your request. Just currious .. it is the kernel controlling /system/app/*.apk (?) ... need to check and learn kernel code then.
btw installing SD4-250 with default kernel I face FC many times when do setting on sound, receiving incoming calls, connect device to pc via usb port etc. But after flashing my kernel all FC gone ... I personally not sure it is because of kernel. But my venue now run smoothly powered by your SD4-250.
Btw I search on google and no lucks. How to get and add baseband (radio) file on ROM. I succeed to build a plaint rom can live on venue but always lack of GSM function. I dont think it caused by ril.d (ril_htc_d for htc) which is binary (?) or any ril_dell_d ... available
would you release SD5-250 ROM and let us work to do something to make dell venue have more options of customs rom.
Folks,
I can build a version of kernel-v4.06 myself. Run smoothly, no problem found so far. x1123's guide, if strictly followed, can bring such result to you.
It will be the best if you make it little under volt

Navigation and maps crash when using your otherwise smooth running kernel. Can you please look into it.

I'm a retard and did not back up my stock kernel when i'm trying out new things. So now i want to go back to stock kernel...but i can't find the stock kernel anywhere...not even in the filesfordummy.zip...can someone help me please?
http://droidbasement.com/galaxy/
hey thanx man ;-)
i was able to restore to the old kernel by flashing the rom included in the filesfordummy.zip...and it restore to stock 3.1 non touch wiz...ok..thats fine..it ran smoother! but here is my problem:
1. i am no longer able to find an update when i tried to look for an update, is anyone having similar problem when they flash from 3.1 touch wiz back to non touch wiz 3.1?
( I was on 3.1 touch wiz UKME....but now current my build code is different UKF3 or something...is that weird?)
side note: when i first reflash the rom included in the filesfordummy.zip...all application crashed constantly...until i went into CWM and did a wipe/factory restore...then found a weird 11 m.b update when i press look for update...weird?
Personally, I also wiped the tablet and installed the vanilla Android 3.1 ROM, much better than the TouchWiz bloatware. I have zero Samsung apps now... and that's the way I like it. Looking forward to a clean 3.2 ROM with no TouchWiz.
The 11MB update simply adds the Google Video's app... but it also LOCKS nvflash.
My tablet comes with a locked bootloader, so I don't care. If you see the a little lockpad when you reboot the tablet, once you perform the upgrade you will not see it anymore.
If you go in Download mode after upgrade, you will also notice a newly added warning, telling you that a custom OS can cause critical problems in tablet.
Personally, I don't care if it locks the bootloader, as long I can flash the tablet with CWM. That means I can flash a custom ROM, kernel and also root. It makes no difference to have a locked or unlocked bootloader, unless you want to flash something that needs a different bootloader (i.e. Tabuntu). A locked 10.1 will still allow you to flash anything with ODIN, it doesn't check for signed kernels. The locking is done in all tablets running Honeycomb 3.1, not just the Tab.
cool, ok this is heads up for those that don't know:
1. flashing vanilla 3.1 ROM on your tablet will remove the ability to update to TW in the tablet update menu or KIES.
2. downloading the 11 mb UPDATE will lock nv flash.
thanx all, issue resolved.

What does locking nvflash mean? I haven't used it so far?
My device came with touchwiz already installed and i haven't downloaded any updates, and I am not likely to anytime soon. Xda will provide my ROM needs! :-D

i think it means that the 11 MB will lock your boot loader.

If you reboot your tablet and have this padlock on your screen, you have an unlocked bootloader:

Running the 11mb update will lock it. If you want to be sure, use nvflash... if you get a 0x4 error then you have a locked bootloader.
Sorry if this is the wrong spot, this is my first post and I don't know much about this site. So I have a Sharp FX Plus running stock rom(android 2.2). I am rooted with z4root. Out of my own stupidity and hope to get a working flash player, I copied flash player 10.3 to my system apps. Now when I turn my phone on the boot animation goes for like 2 seconds, freezes for another few seconds, flashes a black screen very quickly, then starts the boot animation over. I have tried like every button combination to get to some sort of bootloader, or download mode, or recovery mode;but none of them work. Please help, I have about 2-3 after school activities a week and can't keep using other people's phones. Thanks for any help!
u may want to try the "jigg" method to put the phone in download mode and use odin 3 to load pit and pda... im fairly new to this so im just going off of what i kinda know about how to unbrich my phone (samsung captivate i897)
ohhh by the way the jigg is kinda make shift but really works... u wont need to press and hold any butons it does it put it in download mode on its own.

Waiting to brick my new phone.
I recently bricked my other phone, and am using a SHARP-ADS1 as replacement until my other phone is replaced. Once that happens I would be interested in seeing a Custom Rom for the ADS1. Funny how I only see releases for the more expensive phones. Wouldn't the Cheaper (free with contract) phones be more common, therefore more development?

I know this was from earlier march, but incase anyone stumbles across this searching. I've got a ClockWorkMod Recovery for the FX Plus (Capa, ADS1, STX-2) - USB Mounting fails (looking into that), I've also got a EXPERIMENTAL alpha build of a CyanogenMod 6.1.2 Z71 port running - more info on that and the device here.
Few screencaps (some a11 version, lucky13/a13 screenies has the WiFI fixed)

NOTES: thats a screeshot from the a13 version, a11 does not have WiFi. I'm working on the camera and USB Mass Storage (think it may be because I modded adb on in the ramdisk) and working on smoothening the EGL Libraries. Everything else pretty much works (phone, audio, bluetooth, sdcard browsing, adb, touch, kb backlight, etc..). Not too bad actually, doing this on my spare time but its an awesome lil phone lol.
Hope that helps, would be nice to have something newer than Froyo (testing something out currently )
Sharp fx plus no clockworkmod
My rooted sharp fx plus is now unable to boot up after doing some modification. I do not have the clockworkmod recovery, so I am unable to load any unsigned roms so I keep getting the response:
--Install from sdcard...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted
Can someone help me please. THANKS IN ADVANCE
Ok noob-ish question...
I have a Galaxy Tab S2 GT-I9100 running gingerbread 2.3.3 (VillainRom 1.4.0) and a non-stock kernel after deciding to be brave and update from 2.2 to 2.3. I've decided to use ICS in the form of the codename android version but, so far, I've not found a good recommendation for which kernel to run with it - I don't even know if it makes a lot of difference/is critical/or what as I'm still only learning about flashing roms, etc.. Matr1x kernel along with codename android seemed to be recommended but that was on a Samsung Note not a Galaxy S2 - does it matter?
NB. I have rooted this phone and installed CWM if that helps.
Can anyone advise me please (with links, if possible)
Thanks, Mark
Hey dude,
To make easy, my humble advice is to start with my new tweaked combo : Wanam + AbyssKernel 2.2.
Take a look :
I can easily last 1hour screen on time with 89- 88% left.
AbyssPlug gov + Noop
Extreme UC UV settings.
Bloatware freezed.

What do you think ? Pretty awesome isn't it ?
Best battery life with really nice performance.
Come on, you should try it..
My two cents.
Thanks for that but as there are so many roms available I really wanted to go with ICS and codename android, at least to start with! I'm not keen on making too many changes and experimenting as I'm only a beginner in this field and the last thing I want to do is make loads of changes and brick it by making a mistake. I certainly appreciate all the effort people like you make and it makes life much easier for the rest of us plebs!
Cheers
Do not mix and match kernels and/or ROM's from other devices. Look under the battery and make sure you have an international GT-I9100 and not a varient such as GT-I9100G.
Sent from my Telecommunications Device.
Definitely the international version
Baseband version - I9100BVKH1
Kernal version - 2.6.35.7-I9100XXKH1-CL438706
[email protected] #2
The reason I mention the Matr1x kernel is that is was listed as a good combo in a page on "codename android on Galaxy S2" but it then went on about the galaxy nexus S. I didn't know whether they were different phones or the same phone with different names in different markets.
Anyhow I need to know if my existing kernel is good with ICS or if there is a better one to use on this phone.
Cheers all!

I would recommend the ROM in my sig (click on pic). It is AOKP and has lots of features with good support in thread and on OP.

first of all, this is not my creation, i just simply giving links for the sake of sharing.
this rom is created by lewatek, a company in china.
https://www.lewaos.com/
its based on fxp cm7.2. from build.prop
Code:
ro.build.date=Fri Mar 23 23:35:27 EET 2012
so this was compiled using the same source as fxp cm7.2 at that date.
i cannot find download link on the official lewa site, so theres high possibility that this is leaked alpha/beta/rc. nevertheless, most function working just fine so its suitable for everyday use. theres a thread in its forum tho
http://bbs.lewaos.com/thread-20839-1-1.html
but i grabbed this from here
http://android.zone.it.sohu.com/forums/viewthread.php?tid=7754609&extra=page\%3D1&page=1
if its created by lewa team, then we will get official support from them once this get released officially. but for now just enjoy with what we had here
by default dual stereo speaker didn't work, u need to add this fix here before flashing. just unpack the fix and put it into lewa rom flashable zip replacing the original files, minus the META-INF folder. leave that folder and all it content alone or the rom will failed to flash.
gapps also didn't included, so u need to flash it manually. grab gapps from here
do wipe data/factory reset, format /system and wipe dalvik cache before flashing. kernel included in the archive, but if u already had fxp cm7.2 installed then u good to go because the included kernel is the same fxp cm7.2 kernel.
DOWNLOAD HERE
its a chinese filehosting. enter the captcha and hit the button below it, then just click on the "WT19i乐蛙2.0.rar" and download will begin.
This dual speaker fix is made to flash after the installation. Files are the same, why bother replacing files, when you can just flash 2 files, which is actually faster?

So I just recently rooted and flashed CM 10.1 to my gs3. I have a few questions I would like answered.
1.) I have my device rooted from some .zip package (forgot what it was called) because I have mac/linux, therefor I cannot use oden. How would I go about rooting a new device like, a gs4? I ask because I remember the thread saying the .zip was discontinued and was to be used at your own risk.
2.) Why do I get a bunch of errors when I start up any version of JuiceDefender in the logs? Screenshot is here

- It says to get CM, but as mentioned above, I am on 10.1 and I own Ultimate version, get the errors with free and beta version too.
3.) Any known good additions you guys think I should add, or any other apps that could do better then my current apps? I have SetCPU, Adobe Flash (surprisingly works on 4.2.2 somehow) via installing a flash required app. Greenify, LMT, Clean Master, MobileCare, Ninja SMS, AirDroid, Everything.me Home, Quickpic, HD widgets (and the addon for it, asked the dev and they said they are gonna do lockscreen support in the future), the google play app that was leaked on the gs3 forum, ROM Toolbox Pro, Seeder, SwiftKey, Lux Dash, and Watchdog (paid).
4.) Is it me or is a dev lazy (no offense to you guys) if they say that rooting/flashing breaks his HTML5 app? I wouldn't see how that could possibly break it, and I know HTML myself...perhaps its just the dev or something root/CM 10.1 related? The app in question is Digimon Invasion, like the UI spazzes out when selecting stuff at some points and scanning makes the app reload as if I just launched it instead of starting battle.
Thanks in advance!
1. Read its corresponding forum, each and every device may have different way or package to root.
2. You better contact the its developer.
3. Try them yourself, something may fit you needs and something not, it depends on yourself.
4. Hnmmm, I don't know anything about HTML5, but from what I know the HTML5 is a web page language, and if it's web page, then maybe the problem is about browser?
As far as I know every different browser has different support ability about HTML5 , it's highly unlikely could be effected because of root or flash. In my humble opinion .

Thats down to the developer as to what they allow on the product some root fails on security issues .
