Hello Everyone,
Just some general inquiries:
Right before I rooted and unlocked bootloader on my Prime I recieved an OTA update from ASUS. After the update installed, HDMI out stopped working.
Questions:
I suspect the OTA update corrupted software (likely the kernal which controls software and hardware interaction) which caused the HDMI out to stop working. I know what you thinking...Haven't I read the forums? Units were shipped with defective HDMI outs... I have to say, for 2 months I had no problems with HDMI, worked flawlessley everytime, I used it daily. The port does not wiggle at all, the MicroHDMI fits snuggly. I've tried 2 different cords, multiple TVS of different brands, but since the update there as been a no go (I know it was the update, because the prime was connected to HDMI and I was watching netflix, then installed the updated with the TV connected, and it no longer worked on reboot of the prime). Any Ideas? Is it possible a kernal update pushed VIA the OTA update from ASUS messed up the output of HDMI? I noticed that all custom ROMs have been based off of the Build Number 9.4.2.15 V2. There's even the stock build listed here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1518462 but does anyone know where I can get a previous build (custom only obviously so as to not brick it), to download and install it to correct the problem?
The only other solutions I can think of that I have not yet tried:
-Install a custom Kernal, and hopefully it rectifies the corrupted Kernal (Not ideal, I prefer the stock kernal and if custom kernals are based off of the stock kernal from the current build, I doubt it will fix the issue). Anyone know where I can find a custom kernal based off of a previous build??
-If the HDMI hardware is faulty, are there licensed repair shops where I can pay to have the HDMI output replaced? I can't RMA, I've already rooted and unlocked my bootloader.
Thank you in advance, for any advice or insight you might be able to provide.
Wave.
Potential HDMI Hardware diffency workaround
Has anyone tried this as a hardware work around due to a faulty MicroHDMI port???
Example:
1.) Connect stock USB cord to prime VIA port
2.) Connect Male USB connected to Prime into a female USB converter to Female USB converter.
3.) Connect Male USB to MicroUSB Female converter adapter found
on ebay **Crasy expensive here but sure its cheap in China.
4.) Connect MicroMHL to HDMI adapter found here (Normally used on Galaxy Nexus) - again on ebay
5.) Connect MicroMHL to HDMI cable and work around faulty HDMI output on Transformer Prime for TV Out???
Anyone out there given this a try? I have orders awaiting arrival and plan to test. The way I see it, if the kernal on a standard release of IceCream Sandwich shows support, I think the same will be across platforms (tablets, phones, etc.) or simply require a new .aph which exhibits support...
I will report back as soon as I have confirmed or unconfirmed functionalty.
Wave.
add a USB male to X2 USB Female splitter in the mix, and bam you can charge while you use your TV.... Heh like I said, I will report back once I attempt this hypothesis...
Think outside the box... I.E. Your tablet
Or think within it. Its official, the build update to .15 for the prime effectively stopped my HDMI output from working. It seems that the update to .21 build released by the masters today corrected the issue.
Now that the problem has been identified (OTA Updates), has anybudy sourced the root of the issue in the Kernal to prevent these problems from recurring in future updates?
Just happy to be back in action. Sure I order a bunch of un-needed cords as illustrated above, but its still worth testing for those who actually have a damaged HDMI out. Again. once I have test the above alternative I will report back.
As for now... Back to watching Netflixs and playing games on my Transformer Prime - Yeeeeah!

Do you have a confirmed source which indicates .15 version broke HDMI?
I have the same HDMI issue. It was working with initial ICS firmware. After some ICS update it stopped working. All this time I was thinking it was hardware issue, so I got motherboard replaced. Service center provided a 4.0.1 firmware and HDMI worked with it. But it stopped working again when I put latest JB firmware on it (US_epad_user_10_4_2_15_UpdateLauncher.zip). So it certainly is a software issue.
But it seems that only few people are observing this.
I am going to service center tomorrow and confirm that the hardware is fine by flashing older version.
Hello everyone.
This has been driving me crazy all day long.
I tried connecting the HTC AC M500 MHL adapter with my rooted Jestream to a TV using all sorts of tutorials and how-tos online, but to no avail.
The charger I am using is the HTC 9V, 1.67A one that's used for the Flyer.
The only things I have not tried yet are restoring factory settings, and using the HDMI capble that came with the MHL adapter.
I have tried connecting it to a Samsung 42" TV (model unknown) using a PS3 cable up to now.
Will attempt on a Sony 46" TV using the HDMI cable that came with the adapter on Monday, but until then, I just have to know what I've been doing wrong all this time.
I've been looking through forums, articles and YouTube videos all day long. It's driving me crazy.
Anyone have any ideas?
UPDATE: tried it on a Sony TV using the HTC HDMI cable with the MHL adapter while charging. Rebooted twice. Still nothing.
2nd UPDATE: tried turning HDMI control off on the Samsung TV (HDMI CEC). Still nothing.
Can anyone guess if unrooting the device and restoring factory settings would fix this?
have you tried putting the stock kernel back on? might be an issue with the doom kernel if that is what you are using.

No, but it's last on my list on things to try (that, along with the factory reset).
I will try using Airplane Mode ON, Media Sync ON as the default connection mode and USB Debugging OFF (I don't know why that's on my list, but there you go), before I try replacing the kernel.
Also, as far as the kernel's concerned: I checked on the kernel version and it seems to be the same as the stock kernel number and all. Was there an update on the doom kernel, or did I mess up the process and not install it properly?
Kernel version:
2.6.35.10-g01487c4
[email protected] #1
Well, I tried the above and still nothing. Kernel replacement's up next (assuming I don't have the stock one on already. Anyone care to confirm?), and factory reset as the last resort.
Could anyone tell me if I have the stock kernel installed?
Kernel version:
2.6.35.10-g01487c4
[email protected] #1
I am really inexperienced at this, and even though I tried flashing the Doom kernel when rooting, I don't know if I did it properly.
I've noticed in other threads that the Doom kernel is listed differently in the system settings.
I'd like to know if I do have to flash the stock kernel (unless I already have it) to test out the MHL adapter, which I still haven't managed getting it to work.
Any help/info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

yes, i have the same kernel (stock jetstream), but instead g01487c4 i have g4612ecf
i can only advice you few things:
at-first, check mhl on other device to be sure it works
at-second, try to use 5v htc charger (i think it may cause problems with mhl)
at-last, try to buy cheap 5$ mhl on ebay or any chinese web-sites (i'm waiting for such thing now)

Thanks for replying! I had given up hope.
I'll see what I can try about checking the MHL on another device.
As for the second advice, I've tried both chargers. They seem to send power fine, but MHL doesn't work.
And as for the 3rd, yeah, I guess I could try that.
Q: can I use CWM to backup the system, change the kernel, and eventually change back using the CWM if the stock kernel doesn't work either? Or would I have to go through the process of changing the kernel again?
Thanks for all the advice!

cwm will backup hole system, so you can easily return to your backup from recovery
try stock rom or just stock kernel, if you are using custom kernel it may brings big changes to OS
i have received my 5 usd mhl and it works perfectly with stock kernel and doomlord kernel as well
but only one thing that killed me is that output resolution is just 720p
so, i have a question: what resolution does oem htc ext microusb mhl have?

when you connect it to the tv the resolution must appear in the corner.
it can be 720p, 720i, 1080p, 1080i

Ah, OK. I won't know till it actually connects, then. All I get now is "no signal".
Will know by the end of the week, hopefully.
Well, I changed back to the original kernel, and still there's no signal when connecting to the TV. A friend of mine has an HTC One X, so I'll test it on her phone when we next meet up.
If that doesn't work either, then I'll have to get another MHL adapter, but as you can tell from my really slow follow-up-ing on this, I kinda lost interest by now. :S
Could someone with working HDMI output through the MHL adapter paste the contents of their build.prop file here, please?

The setup is a simple "Plug n Play" solution using the HTC AC M500 12pin MHL HDMI Adaptor, with a standard Type-A HDMI cable. No power source was required.
Make sure the TV (I used a RCA 42"HDTV) is properly configured (i.e. Source > HDMI) to receive the signal.
In terms of the reception, the output was measured at HD 1080p with awesome HD Sound.
Hi guys, I got an oem MHL to hdmi cable from eBay, one specifically for the galaxy s3.
I received it today and while the phone seems to detect it's attached to a screen (audio set to hdmi out, landscape mode), the two devices I can connect it to both register nothing connected.
Is there something missing? The first device is a monitor using a hdmi to dvi adapter, the second is a 720p tv with hdmi in. The tv allows me to select the hdmi it's plugged into but says there's no signal.
Does anyone have any ideas?

maybe the adapter does not work with the S3 after all.
Maybe you will find some solution in the accessories threat or here
Can you post up the link to the advert you bought it from?

Thanks. I think it should work, the item description is pretty clear.. http://item.mobileweb.ebay.com.au/viewitem?itemId=200829302467
I might see if I can test it on some more tvs. There was a suggestion it may not work with a 720p device.
Sad thing is, they're all Samsung screens.
Are you powering the device from another USB port.
All MHL adapters and cables for the Galaxy S2/3 need to be powered by an external USB port.

Ok it looks like it might be an issue with the ROM, using an AOKP build of JB 4.1.2
Apparently it doesn't support the TV out - shame, I thought I'd finally found the ROM I was going to stick with
Does anyone know a way of getting it working under AOKP?
sorry man, but only on stock roms you can use tv-out. At least for now, lets hope the sources promised for november include mhl tv-out propietary driver from samsung.

Thanks man - I might go to omega's stock-based rom and see if I can get any love with that. Cheers for the help everyone
Edit: For anyone finding this by search later, using a stock ROM does fix the issue. God I can't wait to go back to AOKP though, stock is terrible
I gotta bring this up again... i had same issues when i was on aokp roms. But now.. 4 samsung roms and numerous kernels later i cant get the MHL to work! If you get the cheap ones there's a huge chance of it not working just from looking through feedback on the Internet. Just spend a bit extra and get a samsung one.
Ive tried mine on many different roms and kernels and it always works.
P.s has anyone managed to get netflix in 16.9 widescreen using the mhl adaptor on jelly bean?:crying:
It's the samsungs 1, that i bought from my carrier. And adapter is fine since my friend got it work with note 2 :/

My hdmi port isn't working anymore and google tells me its a motherboard issue and that I should send it in,
however I am rooted with cm10. Should I unroot and flash stock before I sent it in?

That's what i thought of first (even though it would've been weird for it to just stop working), so I tried another rom but it still didn't work.
When I plug it in, I no longer get the hdmi notification also the cable feels loose in the port.
Just wanted to know if I should unroot and stuff for the rma (if it goes through).
Try flashing different rom
Edit: you just answered it. If you are u locked you'll probably have to pay for the repair...

i had same issue, but the fault was with the micro-hdmi to hdmi adapter...
try another adapter or a direct cable, before you RMA or before you install new rom
I've tried a few different things for my s-off E4G LTE, but I can't figure out how to get mhl working with full mirroring, anyone have any luck with this?
I've tried Meanbean 3.09, works sometimes, but only the status bar is visible.Works fully when playing a video from gallery/youtube. When it doesn't work I get a black output to the tv, and digital looking non-responsiveness from the phones screen, usually followed by a power cycle to get it working again. I have gotten the phones screen to show up normal after a few presses of the power button, but it still didn't mirror to the TV correctly.
Recently, I tried using ViperRom 3.1.7, but alas the same exact situation, digital looking feedback on the touch screen, and blue output to the TV only showing the status bar.
I tried flashing other kernels while using both roms, and they didn't fix anything. If you have it working, what combinations of roms/kernels are you using?
Also the adapter is fine, I've used it with an s2 to achieve full mirroring, and I have been able to play videos full screen to the TV with this phone, once.
Thanks for your time.
Mirroring works fine for me on CM.

Which version? 10.1?
Edit: Looking at the thread for cm10.1, it states mhl doesn't work. Please do explain how you have it working on aosp, as thats what I prefer to use anyway.
