Hi guys just another quick question.
Is it possible to flash LPQ without losing everything? (Contacts, apps, data etc)
Thanks!

Not using Odin, you need to root your device (HERE), and flash LPQ via CWM.
Download LPQ HERE (download the Odexed version)
(If you don't know how to flash using CWM let me know)
You can follow the same steps with LP7 (download HERE).

Yes, I believe it is possible. Normally, if you download the firmware from Intratech's thread it will be a non-wipe version, unless stated otherwise. Nevertheless, depending on which firmware you're coming from (e.g. 2.3.X or CM7-9 or any other custom ROMs), it may be recommended to do a full wipe in order to avoid bugs.
If you have ticked the respective option, your Google account will automatically backup your contacts, wi-fi settings and the apps you've downloaded from the market. Your USB partition should be intact as well after flashing a new ROM.
Regarding the title of your thread I don't believe that there are any differences between LPQ and LP7 other than CSC and regional bloatware.

I flashed LP7 from LPQ directly using odin on the PC. After the flashing and the device rebooted, all the data and apps are still there. So far no issue. You may want to clear cache to be safe. You can immediately feel the responsiveness of the LP7 comparing to LPQ.

Hello, I just read your post and I'm interested in changing from lpq to lp7 because I'm very annoyed with the scrolling speed and sluginess of the touch that I have experienced since updating to ICS, and I've heard that lp7 fixes this somewhat. I've had the phone for about 4 months now and I've never flashed, rooted it or anything like that. Could you tell me how to do it, or is there a guide somewhere that I could follow?
I'm a total newbie.

Thanks! I will read it thoroughly.

LPQ and LP7
I am currently running the LP7 PDA (full flash of Indonesian version I9100DXLP7_I9100OLBLP7_I9100DXLP7) followed by modem of European XXLPQ and CF-Root-SGS2_XX_XEO_LPQ-PROPER-v5.4-CWM5.
This seems to work pretty well and seems hugely more responsive than the pure LPQ system (I9100XXLPQ_I9100OXALPQ_I9100XXLPQ) which also has an SMS bug which causes double messages to be sent from third party apps such as GoSMS and Handcent. The LP7 PDA does not have this bug.
LPQ seems horribly slow and the touchscreen very unresponsive by comparison.
The battery drain on LP7 is higher than Android 2.3.6 (XWKL1)was which was about 3% per hour. It is now nearer 4-5%.

It is safe updating via KIES with a zerg-rush - rooted stock room

I am having this doubt, my currently rom is the 2.3.3 orange stock one KH1 and I am able to update it to the 2.3.5 KJ4 now, but the thing is that I've rooted the rom with the zerg-rush method instead of changing the kernel for a CF one...
I am having the doubt if the root changes made by zerg-rush could interfere in the update process or instead it will just replace everything (but the efs folder, right?) for the new kernel and so on.
Thanks in advance!
Okay, I can confirm myself its as I said, a new kernel is put there so its irrelevant if you had rooted or not, you will just appear with a non-rooted new kernel.
Close this thread, please.

[Q] XXKH3 ICS Update?

I have the following Galaxy s2:
PDA: XXKH3| Modem/phone: XXKH3| CSC: OXAKH3
Rooted and Siyah Kernel.
I was wondering if there is a way to get ICS update through Samsung Kies (when I plug the phone in it keeps telling me it's up to date)?
I want to keep all my setting and data.
I know it's possible to do it through Odin but all my apps and data will be erased
If there is no way to update using Kies what is the best/latest stock ICS firmware available now? Which one will get the latest updates first?
you can backup your apps and data using Titanium backup and flash a Custom ICS rom from CWM
latest stock is XWLP9 and reported very stable...you can get it from here Rooted and CWM flashable : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1292825
don't really want to keep backing up the app every time there is an update. I just want to go back to stock...

You answered it your self, custom ROM......
Stock is buggy. Dxlp9 is good
I kind of want to go completely stock as I mentioned so when new version of Android comes out I can just update using Kies. Don't really want to deal with all backup and restores.
FYI, there is no guarantee a Kies update won't screw up either though. Always a good idea to back up before an upgrade, be it a Kies update, or an Odin flash. And if you're going from stock to stock with an Odin flash, that won't wipe your phone anyways. (still a good idea to wipe anyways, though...)

Re-flash stock firmware

hello everyone.
I'm using andyx firmware v15 and taking my attention that battery dies too fast and phone feels lagging at times.
So i want to go back to the stock firmware and use a rooted stock firmware. but i have a couple of questions:
1) i dont really know which pda or country's firmware i have to use.bought my phone from poland and living in turkey now. can i find out which version the phone originally came with from the box or anywhere else?
if using any firmware wont matter, is there any particular one i should use? maybe getting the newest updates before the ones?
2) is the version 4.0.4 safe to use? my friend suggested me to use that one but i'm a little pissed off after reading the brick stories about it.
3) also someone else told me to flash stock firmware then go for the siyah kernel. whats the benefit for that?

1) there are no particular firmwares. Try out different firmwares on whatever suits you best. I suggest you go up for Gingerbread because of its stability and battery life. But if you want to be updated on the trending things, go for ICS.
2) i suggest you go for custom roms with 4.0.4 as a basis.
3) siyah kernel MAY be a suitable kernel for you, but then again, it could be different. Try out different kernels that best suits you
-Try the search button for further info so you could get a variety of comments from users. Happy flashing

Use CheckFus to find the latest firmware for your phone and flash it with ODIN.
To root your phone just do some reading. There are quite a few methods described here, some are easy, some are more complicated. In the end choose one that corresponds to your needs and skills.
Ive just done what you were asking for similar reasons. I went on to samfirmware site and picked latest and safest ROM. Then on to chainfires thread for the insecure kernel to root my S2. (thanks to chainfire) No a difficult task just read before flasing and make necessary back ups. All tbe best.

[Q] From 2.3.4 to CM9 ?

Hey there,
I'm currently using a Galaxy S2, which is running stock Gingerbread 2.3.4 (no updates available through OTA nor Kies)
Baseband version: I9100XXKI1
Kernel version: 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKI4-CL575468
Buildnumber: GINGERBREAD.XWKI4
And now I would like to get CM9 on my phone. Although I read quite a lot of threads and tutorials, I still have some
unanswered questions left.
Of course I would like to get onto CM9 in the fastest (and safest) way possible, but I'm not really sure how I would accomplish this.
Is it rather better (or even possible) to just go from 2.3.4 directly to CM9? Could I first root it using insecure kernel or CF-Root and then use CWM Recovery to flash CM9? And would this process actually flash all the necessary things, like the correct firmware, kernel and bootloader?
Or should I use Odin to flash it to stock ICS first and then just follow the official full update guide from the Cyanogenmod Wiki (because it is written with the requirement of stock ICS running on the phone) ?
Please help me out with this, I'm thankfull for every answer that I get
Follow the noob-proof instructions on the first post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20841817 , and you can jump to cm9 from your current firmware, no need to go to stock ics first.

Just another question, as far as I understood it I don't need to root before applying the Resurrection Edition of CM9, right?

No. It already includes CWM recovery. After you flash it, boot to CWM and flash the last cm9 update + gapps, wipe data/cache and reboot.
Make sure you put the .zip files on your sdcard first
Great thanks!
This seems to be easy as it can get
Oh and just one more thing, should I do a backup of some sorts? Just a little bit unsure, because then I would have to root first, do a backup and then would be able to the whole CM9 thing (I don't know if the rooted kernel could somehow interfere with the Resurrection Edition later on)

Yeay, just flashed my phone and everything worked out smoothly and perfect, didn't have any problems at all
(I also didn't do a factory reset, is it necessary to that? Because right now there isn't any data left from before and I'm also not experiencing any problems whatsoever, so not really sure if I should do it and what it would do)
Thanks to everyone who posted here and helped me to finally flash my phone :good:

I'm not sure, but i think the NOOB proof method you used already wiped your data in the flashing process. So there is no need for you to do it again

[Q] Help needed after root!

So I have rooted my classmate his Galaxy S2 with CF-Root, which I now realized was a big mistake. It seems that he when he opens his camera app, a black screen comes but he can still take pictures. He can't also access the YouTube app. Another thing is that he lost ALL his files on his intern memory (like pictures, music etc. Which was kind of weird, because I have never had such a problem.) He doesn't really care about losing his files, contacts etc. He just wants to take pictures and access YouTube again. I read on a different topic that flashing Siyah kernel would fix this? Also, IF I have to flash Siyah for him, I have to put the Siyah kernel file in Odin in PDA and hit start, right?
Sorry if this isn't a huge question. It's just that I have never flashed to a different kernel (I have always flashed Custom ROMs with the kernel provided in there). Also is there a chance of any errors, mistakes, something going wrong? I know I can always flash back to the latest stock ICS rom, but nothing big should happen when switching kernels? Or am I wrong?

If the phone is running on ICS you can flash siyah kernel 5.01 with odin. Its perfectly safe. Just install samsung kies for the drivers. And if your phone is running on GB do not flash siyah
Thing can always go south when flashing. Wanna try a safe-friendly method for flashing custom kernels and Stock ROMs? Try Mobile Odin.
And read about all these you're asking here.

I've never really used Mobile Odin. But when I search it in Play Store all I get is the pro version. And since not many people in the Netherlands (including me) don't own a credit card or a paypal account, I can't purchase it. Thanks for the suggestion though.

If you have proper drivers installed its perfectly safe to flash siyah using odin. Do not wipe or restore nandroid backups on your current cf root recovery. You can do anything after flashing siyah or dorimanx kernel
It seems highly unlikely to me that CF-root started all this. Did you flash the correct CF-Root for the correct rom version? You didnt mention which version of CF-root you flashed or what version of the stock rom he has.
If you got no experience in other kernels, why not do a full wipe and start from scratch?

If it's of further help, he was on XWLPD and I've flashed CF-Root with the latest version. The rooting went flawless on Odin, he has CWM installed and has SuperSU on there and has root acces. The tutorial I followed was on XDA Developers, altough I can't find the link anymore.
I was actually thinking of starting from scratch like you said. It seemed easier for me haha.
I also read that CF-Root has a lot of bugs..
