K9 Mail duplicate emails in Unified Inbox - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

There is another thread about duplicate emails, but my issue was only with the Unified Inbox. What was happening is that my Exchange account Inbox only shows one email being downloaded and displayed in the Inbox, but two of every email would list in the Unified Inbox. On K9 Mail's site, Issue 3486 described my issue exactly. Someone there posted a solution, and I responded on that site with a detailed way of getting around the issue. I thought I would repost here as several fellow Android users here may come across this issue.
The main issue is that Exchange accounts may list two Inbox folders that are synced, and therefore two of every email show up in the Unified Inbox. Unchecking the "Unify" option for the second inbox gets around two emails displaying.
To do this, first open K9 to the account selection screen.
- Select the account that shows the duplicate (most likely your Exchange account).
- Bring up the menu using the Menu button on your Android device, and select "Folder List"
- If two Inbox items are listed, select and hold the second "Inbox". Then select "Folder Settings".
- Uncheck the last item in the Folder Settings ("Unify").
->If two Inbox items are NOT listed, there may be a different folder with two items listed or your problem is different (sorry!).
I also turned off syncing of the second Inbox folder so that I also am not downloading any items to it. I hope this helps.

Cannot "Send as" from phone

I am posting this on behalf of a colleague who is having troubles sending emails from different accounts on his phone.
He has several Google Apps accounts, and has configured his Gmail interface (on his PC) so that everything comes in to a single Inbox, and he can "Send as" any one of the accounts. This works fine from his computer. However, when he tries to do this from his Galaxy S2, regardless of which account he chooses to "Send as", it always gets sent from the same account.
For example, he has two email addresses:
[email protected]
[email protected]
From his computer, he can send as either one of these, and the recipient will see the sender as being the account he selected.
From his S2, regardless of which account he selects to Send as, it always arrives from [email protected].
Is this a problem with the phone? Or the settings for the Gmail app on the phone? Or the Google Apps admin settings? Or something else?
I should also mention that I have a HTC Desire, and multiple Google Apps accounts, and I don't encounter the same issue - when I "send as" a particular account from my phone, the recipient sees it as being From the account I selected.
Cheers,
Paul

[Q] Advice Syncing Contacts for Multiple Accounts

Hi
I regularly use several email accounts, one on Hotmail, one on Gmail and one via a work Exchange. Plus I have my phone contacts.
I have set them all up on the Samsung Accounts with my choice of Contacts and mail etc sync settings. But I am a little frustrated because:
When in the phone dialer it shows many email only contacts.
I can't work out where to tell it to put new contacts by default.
Although I can laboriously select and manage more than one contact entry as one, it does not seem to copy the settings between them
There is no clear way of merging the contacts and having the combined settings copied back to the original sources (e.g. if I have one entry with a phone number and another with an email, I can't merge them physically so the missing values are copied back to the source systems.)
I am seeking any suggestions as to settings / practices / software that could help me manage my multiple contacts across several email systems?
Any help would be much appreciated.
I have a similar issue; I have a bunch of email, Facebook, and, you know, actual contacts. Instead of automatically merging those with the same names, they're all listed together. I turned off everything so it only shows contacts, but I'd rather be able to merge them all together. Pressing the "Join Contact" button prompts me to join together email accounts or Facebook accounts only, which I don't want; I want to join contacts with their Facebook/Email accounts.
Anyone know how to do that?
try exporting all your contacts to the sd/internal mem card.
import them to your google account. they should then be in different categories.
check/uncheck the relevant boxes to show/hide contacts

Regarding Contact Settings!

This is the first android phone that I have had without the option in contacts to choose "show only contacts with phone numbers." Anyone know another way to make this happen? Through Gmail settings or a certain app? Frustrating seeing so many random emails and crap pop up because of Gmail. Sorry if it's a noob question, help much appreciated!
I'm in the same boat as you. I have a S6 and hate that I can't "Show only contacts with phone numbers" on here. Hope this is something in the works or perhaps I'm just not doing it right.
This setting is in the contacts to show options, where you choose accounts contacts are to be pulled from.
Unfortunately it still pulls all email address only contacts. I'd like only contacts with phone numbers.

it's not there. the problem is that the S6 or maybe Gmail itself has decided to move all contacts to My Contacts and even if you attempt to edit those contacts into a different group, it won't let you. going into an individual contact on the phone, the My Contact field is grayed out and it won't even let you deselect it so you can filter another group etc.
i was going to move all the email only contacts to a different group but that won't even work now because every contact is now defaulted to My Contacts and even in Gmail contact settings itself you can no longer change that. even if you move email only to a different group, they will remain listed under My Contacts (or All Contacts) as it's called now.
pretty stupid. hopefully there's a fix coming. i'd hate to use a separate Contacts app.

Click to collapse
You can use the web version to that.
h t t p :/ / w w w .google. com/contacts
There, you can remove contacts from the group "My Contacts" so they won't show up in the cellphone anymore (unless you search manually).
Also, I find this post very helpful:
http: / / forums.androidcentral.com/android-5-0-lollipop/465143-how-do-i-display-only-contacts-phone-numbers-lollipop.html#post4377999
The scripts keeps in your "My Contacts" group only the contacts with cellphone numbers.

Question about (or issue with) Android Contacts app and multiple accounts

So I have two accounts, one Gmail (50 contacts) and one Exchange (15 contacts), that I sync contacts for with the contacts app on my bone stock Pixel XL. I have under the Settings > Contacts to display selected "All contacts" so that it syncs everything from both accounts. It also behaves the same if I were to select "Customise" and then select both accounts via check boxes (neither has any folders, groups, or labels to worry about).
When it comes to viewing the contact list, I can pull out the menu from the left side and select either account and their respective contacts (50 for the Gmail or 15 for the Exchange) are listed. I can also select "All contacts" from that window and have both sets (65 contacts total) display in one list (my preference).
However, when I close the app and reopen it, it never remembers that I want to see All contacts in one list and only shows whichever single account list I had selected before. I then have to either switch accounts to get the other set of contacts or select "All contacts" each and every time. Kind of annoying and I don't recall earlier versions of Android behaving this way (currently on 7.1.2). Also, the contact list in the dialer app does not behave this way and always shows a single list of unified contacts (all 65).
Any ideas?

contacts show in search but not in account

Hello, I am finding this very unusual. I have 3 gmail accounts synced to my phone. I do not use face book, snapchat, whatsapp, etc and do not have any other accounts synced to my phone not even my work email.
I have Telegram and I am noticing people joining with a phone number attached saying my friend so and so is joined Telegram.
I do not recognize the name or number, so I go and select each of my contact accounts and scroll through them and I find nothing. However when I search for the name it comes up with a name and phone number. There is NO edit button, the menu options only show delete, share, Add to home screen, set ringtone, Route to Voicemail, and Help and feedback. Normally I would hit delete, however where these contacts are coming from is a complete mystery to me. I tried clearing contact app data
I checked ALL three accounts online via a PC as well, and it does not come up anywhere. Where in the hell are these contacts coming from. Chances are they are an old deleted contact whom I no longer speak with, but how and why are they being found in he search but not when i scroll through the list. I thought about SIM card contacts, but I installed a SIM card reader and there are none. I removed all accounts but my main one and cleared app data for contacts, but it still shows.
I have a second phone with the same gmail accounts and the mysterious contact does not show up on it, so I need help determining where this contact is located. There are other contacts i searched for that does not have an account as well. I would really like to know where these contacts are if anyone can help.
